Indy Speed Hockey #1

A Bunny for the Bench Boss

Rate this book
One night. No names. What could go wrong?

I am done with hockey boys.

Well, at least done dating them. I can’t cut them out of my life completely.

Needing a fresh start after heartbreak, I moved halfway across the country.

A one-night stand seemed like the perfect palate cleanser before I began my new life.

That was, until I saw those striking green eyes staring back at me from the podium on my first day as a reporter for the Indy Speed hockey team.

I’ve done some stupid things, but unknowingly sleeping with Maddox freaking Sterling lands at the top of the list.

His status may have gone from captain to head coach, but the old adage remains the same: you can take the player out of the game but can’t take the game out of the player.

Siena Trap

Siena is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where a love of sports is bred into a girl's DNA. Her love of romance novels came early as well. She would often accompany her romance reviewer mom to book lovers' and romance writers' conventions, where she sat in on workshops and met numerous best-selling authors. It wasn't long before she was filling notebooks with her own stories, which often starred herself and a certain real-life prince.

As luck would have it, she met and married a handsome athlete instead. After several temporary residencies in multiple states and Germany, they finally settled in Michigan, the land where youth hockey reigns supreme.

Her stories no longer feature herself but draw from her past experiences as an educator, businesswoman, fashion consultant, and world traveler when creating her strong heroines. “Oh yes,” she says with a wink and a smile, “There are bits of me in all of them.” Now, she spends her days writing happily ever afters for fictional characters and her evenings at the local hockey arenas cheering for her three children.

Oh my Ms. Trap, Trap Trap, Ms. Trap if your nasty! Yes Janet Jackson reference! A stand alone but if following her books you get a side catch up on the other characters, and I’m so happy that this one followed Bristol, and gave the girl some backbone after chasing the womanizer that had absolutely no intent on choosing her.

The story had so many ups and downs and the reason I gave 5 is that it actually put me in the mindset and the absolute heartache in some situations. The feeling of frustration, the feeling of rejection not only once but continually when on one side you see his reasoning but on the other she was raw and emotional. Seriously offering yourself to someone and their about to enter- literally y’all, steamy AF but before entering feel that person pull away and say can’t because taking advantage….. WHAT! Ugh tears, straight tears because who hasn’t been in a situation where you want something, about to have then it’s just pulled away.

Aside from frustration the growth for the 2 was amazing, and seeing it not rushed was beautiful. Loved it! Can’t wait for the next story!

Loved this, the MCs had such amazing chemistry, the banter was amazing and the sex even better.
I'm giving less stars than what I would've liked to give because of the constant talk of exes and past sexual history. They both remain faithful from the moment they meet but so much talk of other partners could have been avoided, it's such a huge pet peeve of mine.

ETA: finished and can confirm it in fact did not get better. I think this is the last book from this author I’ll be reading.

Halfway through this and the fmc is so immature I can’t even read this without cringing. She says and does the most immature, childish, cringe worthy things at 23 that I’m actually embarrassed for her and she doesn’t even exist. I’m hoping the story gets better but I’m coming to realize this author just writes female characters I hate. They’re all so immature and irritating I just wish she’d write someone who acts like an adult because then her books would be much better with a little more depth of character and plot. Everything is very shallow and under developed.

I wanted to rate this so much higher and honestly, the first half was so good. The second half however was just… I don’t have words really but I’m going to try. Side note, LOVED the dedication.

I love hockey smut as much as the next girl and the spice level was definitely high, it really kept me going. I love a great age gap story as well. But for the love of hockey pucks, stop writing these ANNOYING FMCs. Why is a grown ass woman throwing temper tantrums like this? You want him to be “daddy”, not “father”. Grow up.

Now that that rant is out of the way, let’s dive in. I loved the idea of their meet cute but found it to be so hard to believe since she knows everything hockey, she would have known who that man was. Drunk goggles or not. But a super spicy one night stand with a man you didn’t know you worked with until you started the job the next day… classic. The plot of their story was fantastic but the execution left me wanting, and not in a good way. I wanted there to be more. Especially in the second half. Give me more of them and what hockey was like for him and less of him taking out her tampon. I wanted to know more of how the season was for him. It was so rushed.

Anyways, loved the hockey smut and was here for the plot: Maddox.

So grateful to have received an ARC copy of this book! I ate it up in one sitting and it did not disappoint! I literally couldn’t put it down, who needs sleep anyway?

Bristol and Maddox’s story has them overcoming their own personal struggles, whilst they navigate the undeniable pull they have on each other. I just felt so connected to them both throughout the entire book! The angst and the steam was top tier🌶️
I am officially swooning over Maddox Sterling until the end of time 🥵

Their story was just so beautiful. It had me giggling, gasping, kicking my feet and I am not even ashamed that I sobbed at the end.
I’m hooked and ready to read about the rest of the side characters we met along the way!

✨Workplace Romance
✨Age Gap
✨One-Night Stand
✨Hockey Romance
✨No 3rd Act Breakup

This is a story about two people who deserved their happily ever after’s more than anyone, and to watch in unfold throughout this book was absolutely beautiful. This is the kind of story that reminds you that there really is someone out there for everyone—they will come into your life like a hurricane when you least expect it and you end up needing them to live and breathe.

“You deserve to be the center of a universe. And if I’m being honest, you’re starting to become the center of mine.”

I think what I love most about Siena Trap’s stories is not just the spicy, giddy, kicking my feet in the air romance, but also the realistic plots. In this book, we have Bristol and Maddox. Bristol is wanting a brand new, fresh start away from home after a traumatic breakup. Maddox had a career-ending injury, but was offered the job of head coach for the Indy Speed hockey team. Both have their own demons they are trying to face alone, until Maddox decides he’s not giving up on showing Bristol how she should be treated, like the queen she is. There’s this undeniable chemistry between them and no matter what gets in their way, they always end back up in each other’s arms.

Siena has this way of getting you sucked right in to a story from the first page and you’re just completely hooked until the last. She leaves you feeling so many emotions and just wanting more and more. I didn’t want Bristol and Maddox’s story to end—I lost many hours of sleep to read this, and I don’t regret a thing. I’ll forever cherish this book, and all of her other books.

“But maybe I was just waiting for the right girl to blow into my life like a hurricane and knock me onto my ass. There was no doubt in my mind that girl was Bristol.”

Thank you Siena Trap for the eARC of this marvelous book. I can’t wait to see where the rest of this series goes. ❤️

The story of Bristol, a young sports journalist & BFF of Dakota, and Maddox, ex-player suddenly turned coach.
There was definitely chemistry between those two.

She was supposed to be such a big sports fan that I wasn’t convinced about her explanation after their one-night-stand. I also wasn’t a big fan of her because she had so low self-esteem. I felt she exaggerated about what had happened to her when mostly it was her fault for agreeing to it.

Maddox, I liked A LOT. Sure, he might sometimes be a bit hot tempered for a guy his age, but I loved the way he treated her, he was romantic and respectful. He knew what he wanted and wasn’t afraid to say so, he was sincere from the beginning. I liked the way his struggles were described, but I think the end was a bit rushed and we didn’t see how he got over them, if he got any help or not.

It’s another well written book by Siena with a good flow. I believe it could have been a bit shorter and perhaps avoid a few repetitions. I would have liked some angst too. *Hannah and Cal’s cameos are awesome!

-Dual 1st person POV
-Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Overall: 3.75/5 ⭐️ for me.

Some bad karaoke and a few too many whiskeys lead to a spicy ‘no names’ one-night stand… only for the pair to meet again the next day at work… as the new coach and new sports reporter covering his team. Ahhh, I do enjoy this sort of setup.

I wish the FMC hadn’t been so young though (23), with the MMC 35, and don’t think it was necessary for the story.
But… the MMC was well written as truly gone for her…

“I’m happy to wait until you’ve shed the past. I’m a patient man.”

“What’s it going to take for you to see that I could be the man to wipe him from your memory? To show you how a real man takes care of his woman? That you’re worth so much more than he made you believe? That you deserve to be cherished outside of the bedroom and worshipped inside of it?”

A semi-forbidden (more frowned upon than forbidden), forced proximity (workplace, flights), hockey romance, it’s told in dual POV by Maddox and Bristol, with a fun, diverse supporting cast of friends, teammates and found family. And there’s some decent spice (though a little repetitive).

I do think this book dragged a little in the final quarter and could have been cropped a bit to its benefit. I think the bonus epilogue - currently available from the author’s website - would’ve been best included in the book instead of a bit of the padding.

Oh and learn from my mistake: read the author’s other hockey series, ‘Connecticut Comets,’ BEFORE this one. A LOT of those main characters appear here, with their partners, creating huge spoilers for those books.

"I was holding myself back from experiencing life to the fullest with someone by my
side who made me better. But I can’t regret it because if I had taken that leap earlier,
I wouldn’t have you.”

SWEET BABY GEEEZZZZZ.....THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!

Bristol needing a fresh start to her crappy life, thanks to a crappy man, moves across the country to start a new job as a sports journalist (follows her bestie Dakota from Second Rate Superstar). Mr. Green eyes captures her attention and it turns into one of the best nights of her life.

Maddox, New Coach of the Indy Speed has just had the best night of his life, yeah, he has had plenty of one nighters before during his playing career, but this was so much different than it's ever been before. This woman has brought him back to life!

So, to their utter shock and disbelief, they suddenly find themselves facing off to one another from opposite of a press conference. Maddox at the microphone and Bristol asking the questions... queue the awkwardness!

The push and pull between these two is freakin magic, albeit sometimes super frustrating, as a reader you can see exactly why because of either their past or the situation they're in. The rejection that Bristol feels from Maddox leaves you wanting to scream WTAF MADDOX ?? But then all is forgiven when we get the super steamy fun times. Maddox dedication to proving to Bristol that she is worth it, she is important, make her see how she deserves to be treated is everything.

I loved having all gang from Connecticut Comets make appearances, their acceptance of Bristol is perfect. I can't wait for the next installment, thank you Siena for having me on your team, I lost a lot of sleep devouring this page by page. I wouldn't have it any other way

holy spice

Audio reread - the audio was so good! Loved both performers and this was just as amazing a read the second time around

Bookstagram DID NOT DISAPPOINT with this rec! A man who loves to *eat* is my kryptonite, and I am not sure I’ve met an MMC more about taking his meals straight from the source than Maddox Sterling. Definitely pulled me out of my slump!

Recently named head coach of the Speed after a career-ending injury, Maddox meets Bristol and they have an explosive night together. When he sees her again the following day as the new sports reporter, they try to stay away but soon realize that is absolutely not going to work.

Bristol has been burned by a pro-hockey player in the past and is ready to write Maddox off, but the man is relentless in his pursuit. And good god their chemistry is off the charts. Maddox is all in pretty quickly, but he works to earn Bristol’s trust and proves to her that she’d only been with boys before, but she was with a man now.

I didn’t want to put this one down and am so looking forward to more from the series as well as going back to read Siena’s Comets series since there is clear overlap.

Nope. Not doing it. At 84%, this has become a DNF.

The first half was good. Cute story and meet cute. Then about halfway, the story got lost in the smut. And the FMC kept getting more annoying. I get it, the ex was a jerk. But she agreed to the open relationship with him so why was she constantly complaining about being used? Um, no, he gave you exactly what he offered, which you agreed to. 🙄

Even with the FMC getting more annoying, I planned to finish the book. I wanted to see that HEA. But now she's on her period and things feel gross. I just can't read it.

This book started out pretty good…until he goes down on her while she’s wearing a tampon, then they proceed to have shower sex after he fishes her tampon out. Gross. Then the break up for a week for him to get his crap together, but he really just sits at home and watches film of games and doesn’t actually accomplish anything? But then they get back together? And I am so glad I haven’t read Hannah’s book bc she was annoying and completely disrespectful to her husband and the mc’s relationship

I loved this story, was hooked in fast and kept going to the end. My heart got a workout from our characters, I wanted them to find happiness. Both Maddox and Bristol have not had an easy time of late, but together they can heal. Thank goodness for Maddox’s tenacity. Seeing Maddox’s growth from player to coach, I am glad it was part of the story.

What a great start to a new series!

Bristol has sworn off athletes after being burned by a hockey player. She ends up having an anonymous one night stand. The next morning, she starts her new job as an NHL team reporter. But she's in for a big surprise when she finds out Maddox is the head coach of that team.

These two had such an undeniable pull towards each other. They were both dealing with their own personal struggles but they couldn't resist each other. We see Bristol trying to move forward after wasting so much time on someone who didn't care about her. We see Maddox adjusting to being a head coach after a career ending injury. I loved seeing Maddox break down the walls that Bristol had put up to protect herself. Maddox treated her with such love and respect that she deserved. He was so protective of her. There was some seriously steamy times happening too! I could definitely feel their age difference sometimes with how she acted though. That being said, she did have some tremendous character growth. This book had me hooked from the beginning.

I enjoyed seeing all the cameos from the Connecticut comet series characters. I really loved seeing Dakota & Braxton again and the progression of their love story. It made my heart so happy.

What to expect:
-Anonymous one night stand
-Age Gap (12 years)
-Hockey romance
-Head coach/team reporter
-He Falls first
-No 3rd act break up

This one releases tomorrow, August 27! Thank you Siena Trap for this ARC. This is my honest review.

First off, I love that Siena’s OG characters always make an appearance throughout her series 😍 The scene with Cal & Hannah, we ALLLLL knew he never forgot about that little moment between Hannah & Maddox 🤣 Plus, Bristol’s crush on Jaxon. I just love all the interactions between them all.

I loved Bristol & Maddox’s love story. I knew it was going to have its ups and downs with both of them struggling mentally with things that happened in their pasts. It was raw, real, and really emotional at times. There were scenes that were so raw & you could feel the anger between them, but it made it so real. Their happy ending was worth it.

NOW, let’s talk about the filthy mouth Maddox had 🥵🥵🥵🥵 Likee damn! 🔥🔥🔥 The spicy scenes in this book could melt your fricken kindle! Bristol won the lottery with Maddox and definitely upgraded from her shitty ex.

Idk if I’m emotionally ready for Jenner’s story, but I will 1000% be reading it 🤣

Imagine starting a new job, and the night before going out and having a great time that includes an amazing one and done, no names exchanged and in the early light of day parting ways with no promises and no entanglements. Then picture going into work the next day, and at one point learning that the one person you least expected to see is there, and you now work with that person. That is what happens to Bristol and Maddox, and now they have to figure out how to ignore the ... feelings, lust, spark, you name it, while being professional. For Bristol it's more the fact that she isn't going to trust another hockey player, she isn't going to open herself up to that hurt anymore. But can she resist the pull that Maddox has?

This is the first of what seems to be a spin off series, now as far as Maddox and Bristol's relationship went that is all played out here in this story, but there are some previous happenings that are mentioned which has a reader feeling like they missed something. OK, it's me, I'm the reader that feels like they are missing something. We get some really good drama, and even hotter naughty bits (holy heck I need to go see if Heather and Cal have a book). Bristol irked me a few times, the whole crying for 30 min in the bathroom really proved what a professional she was, but again, this is just IMO. I give this 4 stars and will be going back to check out the previous stories.

This book was a classic hockey romance, and I ate it up. The reporter/coach dynamic was so much fun to read and I loved it! I really loved how the book started, and how we got to see Maddox transition from player to coach. It really amped up the emotions from the start, and they did not waver throughout the story.

I also really liked Bristol's journey as a young reporter. I thought it was relatable and heartbreaking in certain moments, and like we experienced with Maddox's transition we had Bristol's as well. I liked how she was strong and determined to make a name for herself, but the pull from Maddox was HOT.

The best part of this book, for me, was the spice. As my first book by Siena Trap, I didn't quite know what to expect. I went in pretty blind outside of the basic tropes and it was SO GOOD. I loved the grumpy attitude from Maddox and the determination from Bristol and how it all blended together. The book felt a bit repetitive here and there, but overall had great flow and really felt like a journey for each character individually and together.

Overall, I am not a Siena Trap stan and love her endlessly. I am itching to go back and read the Connecticut Comets series because the cameos and easter eggs were just obvious to a new reader to spark my intrigue. This was such a fun read and a great story!!

ok stop….. why was that actually the cutest story ever? that extended epilogue ahhh. if you haven’t read it you NEED to because that’s what tie’s it all together. I mean ya maddox did have some issues he had to deal with but it all worked out in the end. but apart of me wished that I could actually see him go through the help he needed by seeing a therapist before they got back together. it had only been a week and he needed way more time for himself. unless they where doing it together? that’s always supportive.

the tension throughout this book was amazing. so hot and heavy and loved there connection.

the more these books go on the more I fall in love with every other character I’ve already read about.

Hockey romance, Coach X Reporter, age gap (12 years), one night stand, Dual POV, HEA, He fall first

Maddox Sterling and Bristol Cooper

I liked this book a lot. From injured player to coach, Maddox didn't quite know what hit him and he thought he would be left with this big hole of where his hockey life should be. In steps Bristol to fill that hole up. After a one night stand together with no names, they end up finding each other again in a place where they didn't think they would ever see each other....the workplace. He is the coach and she is the new reporter.

The smut was smutting in this book. I loved the characters so much that I think I will go back and read the series before this and the rest this series. Maddox was so good to Bristol during this entire book. He was the perfect guy. The age gap was a little weird to me in the sense that she basically just graduated from college and he had been playing the NHL for longer than half her life. BUT I was all about it. There were so many sweet moments: the plane, the lingerie store, him coming to her house to apologize, meeting the parents, her period, and Dakota's wedding!

Would recommend this to a hockey lover!!!

Bristol is a sharp and determined sports reporter trying to rebuild her life after a break-up. She has moved to a new town, where she only knows her best friend and her boyfriend. She didn’t expect to have a one-night stand with the new team boss she was covering. Maddox is Indy Speed’s new coach and is getting used to being on the bench, rather than on the ice after a career-ending injury. When Bristol shows up on his first day on the job, they both realize their one-night stand will become something more complicated now that they are working together. They are both forced to navigate professional boundaries, public scrutiny and undeniable chemistry as they explore if one night was not enough for either of them.

Bristol is an engaging heroine. She is witty, ambitious, and vulnerable. Maddox is the quintessential grumpy coach, who has a stern exterior and a quiet tenderness that makes him easy to root for. Their dynamic delivers plenty of banter, longing, and growth. I loved the “he falls first” energy that this book delivered.

This was a fun, sexy read that blends workplace tension, second chances and vulnerability. This was my first Siena Trap book, but it will not be my last. It is a great read for hockey or sports romance fans!

A Bunny for the Bench Boss by Siena Trap is the first book of the Indy Speed series, and it also brings back some familiar faces from previous series. As a fan of Trap's work, I was thrilled to see Dakota (still my favorite character) and witness her continued journey. The milestones she (Dakota) hits made me even more connected to the story, reinforcing that while this book stands as the first in a new series, it’s beautifully interconnected with the world we've come to know. I do believe that you have to read the previous series first before reading this and enjoying it as much as I do.

Our FMC, Bristol, has just moved to a new city to escape her toxic ex. Before starting her new job, she meets Maddox—our green-eyed MMC—at a bar, thanks to an invitation from her best friend Dakota and Dakota's boyfriend Braxton. Maddox, 12 years older than Bristol, had to give up his hockey career after a severe injury. The age gap between them becomes a source of humor throughout the book, leading to some laugh-out-loud moments that I had to stifle in public.

Bristol, who previously came across as a bit of a doormat in (Second-Rate Superstar), has undergone significant growth. She's no longer blinded by "love" and has become more independent and self-assured. Maddox complements her well, and their relationship is a highlight of the story. Despite the undeniable attraction, they both resist their feelings, each battling their own demons and uncertainties. The push-and-pull between them adds tension and depth to their relationship, making their eventual connection even more satisfying. The chemistry is palpable, and watching them navigate their emotions while trying to protect themselves from getting hurt adds an extra layer of intensity to the story. Whenever she needed him, he was there, supporting her through her most vulnerable moments with a tenderness that was truly remarkable.

The book explores complex emotions like grief, envy, jealousy, and anxiety, and it is written in a way that makes me feel like I am right there with the characters.

Overall, Siena Trap's A Bunny for the Bench Boss is a captivating start to the Indy Speed series. With complex emotions, sharp humor, and undeniable chemistry between the leads, this book offers a satisfying mix of romance and real-life challenges.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I just loved seeing Bristol have her own book. She had so much growth in this story and I was totally here for it. She was more aware of her own mental health when it came to men, she got a great job and of course the man. It was not easy for her by no means but she persevered. I think every time Siena writes a book the MMC is my favorite. I didn’t think anyone could beat Braxton but Maddox is HIGH up there. He had his own struggles as well and who wouldn’t in his case?! Maddox is completely swoon worthy though. & the spice yall, whew. 😅 I can’t wait for the rest of the Indy Speed Series, every book from Siena just gets better and better.

I usually do my favorite quote but my favorite would give too much away about Maddox.

Quote - “That’s the funny thing about people. Everyone’s a stranger until the day your paths cross.”

A one night stand no names - what could possibly go wrong. Oh right he is the New Head Coach of the Speed Hockey Team and she has just been hired as News Reporter for the team. 🫣. Was it kismet?

Oh when your person comes into your life, they turn it upside down kind of like a tornado. The MMC Maddox 😍 - I fell in love with him immediately and his banter and protectiveness of FMC Bristol was swoon worthy.

This was definitely steamy AF and their sexual tension was top notch although their relationship went deeper than just that as Bristol is trying to recover from a bad breakup and Maddox from losing his Hockey career before he wanted to - Can their relationship survive their pasts, while they struggle to heal?

Hockey Romance is one of my favorite genres and this one did not disappoint.

great book- character driven

I signed up for the ARC of the third book in the series so because I love the hockey romance is so much. I decided to read the first two as preparation. I’m really glad I did and I really like these stories. Though now I’m wishing I read the original series that I didn’t even know existed Before I read this series.
Though, to be honest by the time I made it through two entire series before the ARC I think it would already be published
Anyway this series is definitely character heavy, not necessarily plot heavy, which I don’t mind because the characters are very well rounded and you get to know them pretty well.
There’s not a whole lot of action either, and I feel like the steaks of the characters having their job jobs at risk for their relationship is kind of downplayed .

But overall, I really liked it so far and I’m glad I signed up for the ARC on to book 2
