You can run, little hucow, But you can’t hide your desire.
Tess Bradford is a hucow, and she’s on the auction block to be sold to the highest bidder. The men at the auction want her for her milk, but the tall dark stranger with the bulging muscles and deadly horns wants so much more.
He wants Tess to be his mate, but not his alone. He has two herd brothers, and they share everything together. They will protect their hucow. They will pamper their hucow. If necessary, they will punish their hucow.
And when it’s all said and done, Tess will know what it means to be shared by the minotaurs.
Runaway Hucow is the second book in the Occurrence series, set in an alternate sci-fi Wild West populated by mythical monsters and mutant beasts. This why-choose romance features one hucow female and three bison minotaurs. HEA guaranteed!
Don't think I've read such a smutty book in this vein before, with heart and an actual plot that keeps you engaged throughout it.. Lizzy, this was definitely way more everything good, compared to the 1st book in this series.. I'm still not quite completely sold on the back drop of this specific world you've built here. But this 2nd book has certainly given me pause to return here for at least the 3rd book, before I make my final decision..
I love the Hucow angle here. And I really liked Tess, the focal point of this story..
Roscoe, Spike, and Peyton are the Minotaurs here. I love them all equally but for very different reasons.. Their place in this world and their circumstances alongside Tess, really got to me. I love what Lizzy did here. Exposing painful truths of this (our) world, within this fantasy world. Very clever. Fresh. Provocative and truly naughty.. I was down right shocked and blushing. Then shocked again cause I was blushing. 😚😚
Good Lordt! This book was 🔥 I definitely needed a cold🚿 while reading it🤣
I would definitely recommend this read. Especially if you felt underwhelmed with the first book in this series.. Lizzy manages to appease that grievance for you quite well with this one😉
This story has intense moments on all fronts. Sweet & funny moments, alongside some good action sequences as well.
I love Lizzy’s books. LOVE them. I’ll never stop reading her books. But sometimes you just can’t win them all.
Runaway Hucow…well…
Hucows are new for me. Because apparently they ARE a thing! The visual of Tess the Hucow in here was a tad strange. The bison/minotaurs that claimed her and milked her were a little off putting because I had a hard time imagining a Cowboy bison/minotaur.
“The pleasure was all mine, ma’am. Nothing makes a minotaur feel better than satisfying his hucow’s needs.”
Runaway Hucow’s plot was unique and I enjoyed it. Lizzy is an incredibly talented writer but since this is new territory for me, I struggled with connecting to both the FMCs and MMCs. This stunted my ability to really immerse myself in the world and the story.
This came as a recommendation, and it looked interesting. I didn’t read the first book which might’ve hurt with the worldbuilding because not much was provided. It wasn't a HUGE deal, but it did make it difficult for me to imagine the setting/characters and have a concrete grasp on things.
From what I gathered; the book takes place on a fictional wild west-esque Earth. (1890) Something called The Occurrence of ’49 (1849) somehow “created” new species several decades earlier. Some that were mentioned were hucows (the h), bisonmen (the H’s), alphas, omegas, harpies, centaurs, and snakemen.
I never had a solid picture on Tess or hucows. The way she was described she sounded completely human with little horns, cow-like ears, and really big breast that produce milk. It appeared that they had no rights and were traded as livestock and used as dairy cows. Except, several times Tess was threatened with being raped, but it never felt to me like most farmers were out there raping their dairy hucows.
Regardless, most of the focus of the book is the budding romance between Tess and her three bisonmen (Roscoe, Spike, Peyton), and Roscoe getting over past hurts. And smut, especially milking… because she’s a hucow. There’s also a subplot of the bad guys trying to steal her back and force her to the auctioneer because she ran from the farmer that purchased her.
Bottom Line- I enjoyed it but really needed more worldbuilding to better understand what was going on. Like why were the guys free and Tess wasn’t? Why were normal bison randomly having bisonman offspring? Wouldn’t every species be doing the same thing? It sort of reminded me a bit of a mashup of Morning Glory Milking Farm and Cara Bristol’s Breeder books, but hucows were a totally unique concept foe me.
4 stars. The smut in this book was a big factor in why my rating is so high. The plot was very simple, mostly kept to their relationship development. Which was also very simple, the only thing that held anything up was the Grumpy one, being grumpy lol.
🤷🏻♀️ If sexy times that include lactation in a Very intimate way doesn’t freak you out, I’d say it’s a good time. Shortish, simple, there’s discipline that includes some impact play with bonus tools(yes. That too actually🫢) and the milking is a good time had by all.😂 Anyway. Yeah. That’s all I’m gonna say about that I think…
Lizzy Bequin takes omegaverse to another level! In her unique and unmistakable writting style, she found the perfect balance between smut and a very good plot. A sweet hucow running from slavery, rescued and cared by three bisonmen/minotaurs ,trust that is hard to gain, bounty hunters and an evil auctioneer, lots and lots of scorching hot scenes and you have an absolute MUST READ!
Captured by men after the death of her human protector, Tess (h), a hucow, a new breed that arose following a transformative event known as the Occurrence of '49, is on the auction block being sold to the highest bidder for her valuable breeding and milk. However, a twist of fate allows her to escape, only to be pursued by bounty hunters until rescued by Spike (H), the bison minotaur who had eyed her from the auction's shadows. Unlike the others who see Tess merely for her milk, Spike and his two herd brothers, Peyton (H) and Roscoe (H), envision a deeper connection with her, aspiring to make her their shared mate. They offer her a sense of safety she has never known, challenging her to trust again in a world where she is hunted for her unique attributes. Hot and steamy RH hucow-minotaur romance focusing on freedom, trust, relationship complexities, overcoming past traumas, insecurities, and belonging as Tess navigates her new life with Spike, Peyton, and Roscoe.
I’ve been reading too many small town romances and I needed some thing on the more unusual side break it up and this was surprisingly good and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.
I have been patiently (well some) for this book since reading the first one and having a little peak at the minotaurs. I mean, I do have a weakness for men with horns.. Tess is a hucow, a combination of a human and a cow since The Occurence, and humans treat them like cattle. After an escape she is recued by a bison minotaur, and when she meets his herd brothers, things heat up between her and 2 of the brothers.. The 3rd one requires a little more convincing! We also meet Shannon from book 1 again! I love steampunk aesthetics, and with the addition of 'monsters' it is a great immersive world.
This is the second installment of this series and did NOT disappoint! I still find this world so interesting. After a global incident called “The Occurrence”, some animals and people were mutated. Tess is a hucow, a mutation between cattle and human women. They are kept as animals on ranches, with little rights of their own. Their plight in the current world is a motivator behind the FMC of the first book. Since Tess was raised like a human daughter instead of an animal, she fights for her own freedom. She is strong and willing to stand up for herself. Being a hucow was definitely secondary to who she was as a person, except maybe in the bedroom. All three of the brothers had very distinct personalities. Roscoe is reluctant to give in to any relationship. I like that even though Tess is already falling for Spike and Peyton, she plans to walk away from them to remove herself from further abuse by Roscoe (he’s quite mean to her to start, but don’t worry, he warms up to her…and you’ll appreciate his addition to spicy times). Overall, I really enjoyed this story and would highly recommend this book and series.
I received a copy of the book from the author, but my review is entirely voluntary and honest.
My shelves/tags might be considered spoilers, so look at your own risk!
Well I haven’t really read much on Hucow and I do love a Lizzy Bequin book. This book was actually good and oh so steamy. Tess lived a normal life for a hucow, she had a human father who treated her like a daughter and taught her many things. Prior to his passing he wanted to make sure Tess was looked after. Fast forward and Tess is up for auction to the highest bidder. Sold into a life of servitude and abuse she fought her way and escaped. Only to be tracked down and taken yet again. Until a man, no a bisonman rescued her. From there her life had truly just began.

Tess is a hucow, a human/cow hybrid and one of the many hybrids that came about due to The Occurrence of 1849.
The story starts with Tess on stage being auctioned off. Stripped down naked, she wonders how much worse things can get. Then she sees a big, tall guy with a horned war bonnet standing in the back of the crowd. There's some kind of pull there, and she hopes he bids. He never does.
Later that night, Tess is chained in a barn until her new owner is ready to take her home, when the auctioneer comes in and tries to SA her. She gets the upper hand, and uses the cattle prod on his balls. The auctioneer is down for the count, Tess fishes the keys out of his pocket, and sets herself free. All for the best, because the auctioneer lied to her buyer stating she produced copious amounts of milk, when in reality she never produced any. No telling what her new owner would do when he found this out!
Tess runs for awhile, and passes out for the night. When she wakes up, her breasts are swollen and achy. A fine time for her milk to come in. While she is examining her breasts, bounty hunters sneak up behind her. She thought she was done for, until the tall guy from the auction steps up behind the bounty hunters and takes them out. He convinces Tess to go with him, because there will be more. Tess has her doubts about the tall guy, who really wasn't wearing a war bonnet but had horns on his head... and hooves? Not on his head, but his feet were hooves. He's a giant bisonman!
Spike is his name, and he takes Tess home to The Valley which is a hidden secret where Spike and his brother's Peyton and Roscoe watch over 2500 bison, give or take. I loved this. It has always bothered me hearing about how folks would just shoot bison, just to shoot them, leaving them to rot. That's real American history, and I loved this piece of fiction where bison were being protected. Like what is wrong with folks to kill something just to kill it? Luckily, bison are no longer endangered.
I also liked how smart Tess was, who was raised by a doctor who had a telegraph in his office. She learned Morse Code and how to stitch a wound. All three of the bison man and their extended family were cool, too. Tess may have finally found her niche, if only she could get past the mean alpha brother Roscoe. , Ugh, Roscoe. Do you know you're dealing with a 26 year old woman?
I didn't care so much for them treating her like a child, and now they own her, still like she's a piece of property. But Tess seems happy, and she's well taken care of. Can't help but think, I'm a grown woman chronologically, and if someone tried to take a switch to me... well, I'm not very strong, guess they would just do it, but they better sleep with one eye open! I would so get them, one way or the other.
Other than that, I'm hoping for more books on The Occurrence!
Tess is a Hucow, a new breed of species that arose from an event they called the Occurrence of '49 along with Alphas, Betas, Omegas and other species. Tess unfortunately was taken by men when her human protector died. As she was unbranded they were going to sell her at auction to the highest bidder. Hucows were a commodity, their breeding and milk being their selling point. Tess is purchased at the auction but before she is taken by her new owner she manages to escape. She flees and doesn't stop until she is exhausted as she knows they will be bounty hunters looking for her. But eventually she has to rest and sleep as fatigue catches up with her, only to get caught . But luckily just as the bounty hunters attack her she is saved by a man she had seen at the very back of the auction. He reveals himself as a bison minotaur. He takes Tess back to his cottage to stay with him and his 2 brothers. Spike knew she was his mate and would be a mate to his 2 brothers as well, but he needs for her to agree to stay there with them, he would never take her by force. Peyton whi is the younger brother, is onboard immediately, he falls as soon as he sees Tess. He will have to wait until Roscoe the oldest returns to the valley before he knows if all will work out.
A good storyline, flowing smoothly, with a good back story on all of the characters. Feeling for the Hucow, who just wants her freedom. Luckily, the person she most feared at the auction is the one who has made her feel the safest. But it also dealt with the insecurites of Tess and the worries of the men. Eventually a HEA had by all.

This book is my new favorite and dare I say better than the first yeh I know right it’s hard to believe. Tess Bradford is a Hucow that been raised by her loving family as human who has lost her family and has been kidnapped to be auctioned off but all she wants is her freedom and when she makes eye contact with a stranger she is drawn to him but she must escape before it to late. Spike see’s Tess up on the auction block and feels very drawn to her but he must wait to have her but when she escapes he tracks her and offers to come stay with him and if she doesn’t like he will help her get to the ranch her parents told her about. When she meets Spikes brother Peyton she feels the same connection to him as well and soon it’s getting hot and steamy but when Roscoe the last brother shows up things get very tense and his abuse she would rather not live with and would walk away than take anymore but after some issues where overcome the heat between Spike, Peyton and Roscoe heats up and there is no denying the burning chemistry that brings them to their HEA. Loved this book and look forward to the next.

Tess is a hucow, and she is standing on an auction block waiting to be sold to the highest bidder. The auctioneer is as bad as those he's selling the hucows to. Tess is bought and has to spend the night in the stables chained to prevent her from running away. But Tess doesn't take things laying down, she tricks the auctioneer into coming close with the "promise" to show him a good time. Fool auctioneer falls for it and Tess manages to get away. Moving as fast as she can sadly isn't fast enough and she is cornered by three bounty hunters who plan to have their way with her before they return her to town. But salvation is at hand in the form of a huge bison man who Tess noticed standing at the back of the auction. Faced with the prospect of going back to town to face the auctioneer or going with the bison man, Tess chooses the latter. And doesn't realize just how much her life is going to change. Lizzy Bequin always produces some of the most amazing stories I've ever read and this one doesn't disappoint. The wait is always worth it with this amazing author. Highly recommended reading.
Tess is a hucow, a literal human cow that evolved from the mysterious event called the Occurrence, which brought several paranormal beings into the world of the 1800's Wild West. She wasn't raised as a cow like so many other hucows around she was trained by her adopted father who was a doctor. He tried to protect her from people who would want to take advantage but he died and she was kidnapped by an auctioneer. She's able to escape and ends up getting help from a bison minotaur who she goes home with on her way to a free hucow reserve.
This was definitely an interesting story, the world building was great and I'd like to read other books in the same universe. The writing was a bit wrote and repetitive, it kind of felt like Tess only knew a couple of phrases and even though she was intelligent and sassy she would devolve into a simpering sub very quickly (not that there is anything wrong with being a sub I just wish she had a few more sentiments to express as a sub). The spice was frequent and detailed in a reverse harem of bison minotaurs it was definitely unique.
This was a super hot story, but I enjoyed reading. Tess is a hucow, she was an adopted daughter of a doctor, and when he died, Tess was taken by the auctioneer and sold to a farmer but she managed to escape and then was rescued by a bisonman who’s name was Spike. he offered her a safe place to stay until she could contact the person who was going to keep her safe with the herd of hucow,He offered her a safe place to stay until she could contact the person who was going to keep her safe with the herd of hucows that she owned. Spike had plans to keep Tess and make her his mate along with his two brothers, Peyton and Roscoe. There was a lot of drama and action involved in keeping test but eventually the three bisonmen won her over and made a family together and lived happily ever after.

I was excited to return to this world after reading book 1. So many possibilities and I was eager to explore more.
Not absolutely necessary to have read book 1 beforehand, but it will definitely help explain more about the world and we do get to see characters from book 1 in this one.
This story held my attention and had me wondering what would come next. Tess gets more than she bargained for as she makes her getaway. Could not predict what she would find, or who would find her.
As the story developed, I started to think I knew where it was going. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the twists and turns. Ending was satisfying. Story pushed me at times, but never beyond what I enjoyed.

'He barely heard anything at all, or saw anything for that matter. His vision had suddenly tunneled around the female in front of him. Everything else— the valley and sky, the cottage, and even the horse the woman was sitting on— all of it seemed to fade out of existence, until the only thing left was her. The most beautiful woman Peyton had ever seen.'
I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun, very steamy read. Great world building and wonderful characters. I've read a few hucow short stories from other authors, but this one is the longest and most character driven. I'm used to reading Lizzy's alien romances, so I was looking forward to what her hucow romance would be like. And I was not disappointed. I loved the characters, I loved the chemistry, and I loved the setting. This was my first in this series and I will be reading more. 4 stars.
I have to say it was a real pleasure to read this book. I knew from the previous book , that the description alone of the Hudlow that this Hudlow was going to be special. I loved the kinkyness that this story provided, after Tess unwittingly found her mates.
Tess was going to be auctioned but looking around she could see no one to help her but for one man with whom there was an instant attraction. Fast forward a day later she is rescued from a situation from the very man she saw. But he isn't a man he's a bison man a rare breed indeed. She agrees to stay with the brothers, however they wait for their older brothers decision. However his decision is something Tess didn't expect.
I absolutely loved this and I'm sure you will do as well.
Runaway Hucow is a gritty steampunk western story. Many years ago the Occurrence had caused hucows and minotaurs to spring into existence. They are treated as property and not the thinking, feeling beings they are. Tess is put up on the auction block and sold to a stranger in the beginning of the book. This is a really harsh couple of chapters and I felt so bad for Tess and the other hucows.
Tess finds safety with Spike, a bison minotaur the likes of which she's never seen. Spike and his two brothers are very different from each other. They live in a beautifully described valley hidden where they take care of a huge herd of real bison. The books is largely spicy scenes after they all meet up together but I did still appreciate the world building.
Lizzy Bequin wrote another enjoyable steamy hot Sci-fi alphas bison-men/omega hucow western ho-down in this "The Occurrence" series. This story is about Tess Bradford a hucow omega woman who is auctioned at Crooked Valley and escapes before her owner picked her up the next day. After running away into the wilderness, she is found by three rough bounty hunters who try to take her back for the reward. She is saved by Spike who kills the hunters for mishandling her and claims her as his. They ride to his ranch and Tess meets his brothers Peyton and Roscoe. What occurs afterward is an engaging reverse harem with lots of western cognations and action in this copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
It has taken me 8 months to finish this book, start stopping, forgetting about it months on end and yet I did not lose any of the little overall plot that was there, because of all the goddamn repetition.
If you are picking up the story for the Minotaur, Hucow, sci-fi, mythological creatures/monsters, western bit; then you're sorted. If you're picking up the book for the overall plot you'll want to skim read this due to the predictability and repetition of plot.
Some aspects of the story I didn't like. The slavery and the "science" behind the hucows/Minotaur's forming (this was a horror situation to me-imagine dropping from a cow, but you're something different?).
But the book has sort of got me over my reading slump and I do like L.B. smut, so that's a plus for the author.
If you are a lover of all things nice and everything spice, with a touch of STFUATTDLAGG, then this is a book you need to read. Three super-muscled, kinky minotaurs with a need for some love and a mate find one with a beautiful hucow. Check your triggers, but this has a couple I never would of thought of, yet didn't bother me in the least, milking being one of them! With a tad bit of BDSM, while still being very imaginative in an old western setting, I felt sinful for loving this read. If I had to pick a "western" romance, this is the one I am going for!.

This was a fun read and twist on the hucow genre. A bit of the Wild West, a bit of fantasy, a bit of mythology. Tess is so sweet and brave - while she does get rescued early in the story by Spike I like that she was the one that took her freedom in her hands and got away from the dangerous situation.
The brothers were endearing, even the oldest grump. The entire buildup of their relationships with Tess (together and individually) felt natural and warm. And spicy. Very, very spicy. Lizzy knows her stuff with writing spice.
I missed the first book in this series but this is definitely a standalone. I loved and I'll go back and read the first one now.
I’m very been looking forward to this book, ever since I read Cowgirl Omega. I love this authors worlds. Every time I read one of her books, I’m fascinated, intrigued, titillated and often times surprised. This author’s imagination is a strong second. Every time I finish a book, I’m excited for more.
The old western, sci-fi, fantasy, almost gaslight feel to this series has me hooked. It feels new and fresh, to me. Add in the why-choose, hucow and Minotaur elements and I’m gobbling it up. This book is erotic, compelling, exciting and a page turner. And here I am again, waiting for the next book.
Welcome to the Old West, with cowboys, ranchers, native Americans, Alphas, Omegas, minotaurs, and hucows. There has been a cataclysmic occurrence that has changed the face of the American West and the folks who live there.
I liked this book. There is danger for Tess, as hucows are looked upon as livestock and exploited for their milk. But there are also those people who realize that the hucows are women and want to offer them protection. Finally, there is affection, connection, respect, and plenty of steam in this 'why choose' story.

L. Bequin knows how to write a steamy story. No matter where the setting is, who the characters are, what the plot, the woman can throw down some seriously panty-melting scenes.
There are other books out there that are short on plot and heavy on the dirty, but L. Bequin knows how to give the reader both the plot and the erotic. I think this story is probably the most raunchy, filthy, hot story she has written (and believe me I've read them all).
It's so 🔥 🥵 ❤️🔥. Definitely not to be read in company😉.
