The past kept haunting her…

Josh Bryant was back in tiny Wolf Creek. Which meant tour guide Tessa McAllister now had more to fear than drought, wildfire and underhanded rivals. Years ago the handsome photojournalist had broken her heart, leaving her with a secret to harbor alone. And now he was back in her town. Distracting her. Making her remember what they'd shared. But someone was watching them, waiting for the moment to strike. Someone dead-set on destroying their hope for a second chance.

Snow Canyon Sinister family secrets lurk in the majestic Wyoming Rockies.

Roxanne is a USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author of forty romantic suspense, mystery, and heart-warming, emotionally charged relationship novels in the clean & wholesome, as well as inspirational romance genres.

She got her first horse at the tender age of six and grew up riding bareback with wild abandon throughout her small Minnesota town year-round. It was like giving a child car keys!

She showed horses for many years, and later, she and her husband raised quarter horses and thoroughbreds until their kids came along.

She's living her childhood dream, living on an acreage in the country with her husband, three horses (all beloved elderly pasture ornaments, now), a golden retriever, a Mountain Cur rescue, and six fluffy barn cats. It's a much smaller menagerie than when their three kids were still at home!

Ranches, animals, and small-town life frequently find their way into her books.

I liked it a little better than Leigh's story "Vendetta" which I read not long ago. There certainly seems to be no end to the people who want to hurt the McAllister family--apparently mostly based on Claire's actions in the past--except they're not targeting Claire, they're targeting her daughters, or in this case Claire's ranch (which is now Tessa's ranch).

I guessed what had happened to Tessa (with regard to Josh) long before it was revealed in the book.

I didn't guess who was behind the vandalism and other acts at the ranch until it was revealed--mostly because the culprits come out of nowhere and weren't really named characters in the book until close to their reveal. I did make the mistake of reading the discussion questions when partway through the book and those do reveal one of the culprits, though I didn't see as much animosity there as I would have expected given the way the question was worded.

This was the first book I read by this author. I did enjoy this book and I found it in a little free library not paying attention to it being part of a series so will have to search for the others.
