It is my opinion that you cannot read this book without reading books 1-3 in the Dying Gods Series, and as such, this should not be treated as a standalone. Never fear! Books 1-3 are fantastic, and I highly recommend them as well!
TLDR: An exciting and romantic addition to the Dying Gods Series that brings us back to the characters we love, all while making us fall for new ones.

Sira is the forgotten sister of the Minas Crete, locked away in Potina’s temple, dreaming to fly free. Britomartis, who has always wanted sails instead of ceremonial cloth, is in a rush to save as many people as she can when she stumbles upon Sira. Their fledgling friendship and romance is everything to Brita, but she believes in order to make a difference, she must leave. Lykos is the brother of a foreign King, his people enemies to Sira’s, but that legacy is not the one Lykos wishes to live. By the guiding hand of the gods, Lykos forges a new future and steals Sira away from Crete. Neither have ever been interested in the opposite sex, yet the very threads of fate wind them tighter and tighter together. Only with the bonds between all three of them can they fix the wrongs destroying Crete.
Thoughts:
It was an absolute pleasure to be back in the world of The Dying Gods. In short, this series is about the Minoan culture and how vastly different it was believed to be than Ancient Greece. It explores matriarchy and female empowerment, and like every good mythology inspired tale, paints Zeus as the villain he was. It is one of my favorite why choose series, and I highly recommend!
As for Minas, the moment Elisha announced that Brita’s book was on the horizon, I was ecstatic. Brita plays a major role in many things in the first three books, and has a grumbly attitude that makes her quite a fan favorite. It was so much fun to be back with her! I also deeply adored Sira, another character from the first books, and loved being able to know her better. She really surprised me! BUT What I wasn’t expecting was how much I came to love Lykos! He’s a new character to the series, but he quickly won my heart!
The plot of Minas is one of righting wrongs. It was fast-paced and exciting, and kept me completely enthralled. As for the romance, the dynamic was so incredibly sweet. Sira and Brita have a bit of history, while Lykos and Sira are both experiencing feelings for the opposite sex for the first time. Elisha always writes queer romance and intimate scenes with such care, and I found myself completely taken with the triad.
Fans of The Dying Gods will adore this addition, and those that are new to this world? What are you waiting for?! Pick it up now!!!

I was SO EXCITED to receive this arc from @elishakemp because I absolutely adore this series!
Minas is the 4th book in the Dying Gods series and even though there is a detailed summary of the first three books at the beginning of Minas, I HIGHLY recommend reading the first three in the series before this one. Elisha is an amazing writer who puts so much time and effort into her world building to make it as accurate as she can. It is obvious that she is passionate about Minoan culture and history. PLEASE take the time to read these amazing books. You’ll fall in love with them just like I did!
If you read the first three books, you’ve met Britomartis, the grumpy priestess and third daughter of the Minas Thera. This is her story! It is hinted at in previous books that she has a somewhat secret relationship with Sira, the sister of the Minas Crete. We get to see how that relationship comes to be along with the rest of their story AND how they meet Lykos, the brother of the Achean King (👀). As we know from the previous books, the Acheans are the enemies who attacked Thera in Drown the Sea.
Brita has always been such a great friend to Adrienne in the earlier books and I am so excited that we have her own book! She is her typical, broody yet sassy self and she had me laughing right from the beginning with her snark.
Sira is our ray of sunshine, our little Rapunzel hidden away from the world by her sister. She goes through some great character development and it is so enjoyable to read!
Lykos is a 5th son, brother to the Achean King, basically Sira and Brita’s biggest enemy. He finds himself wanting more from life than just following his brothers every order. In an insane twist of events at his brother’s betrothal party, he finds himself struck by Astarte’s arrow (iykyk) and pledged to the person he least expects 👀
Something to note, this is an FFM book, so the throuple is like a “V”. One person with two others, but the two others are not with each other.
I cannot thank @elishakemp enough for this arc. I am so excited for the world to read this story and revisit the world of the Dying Gods on Feb 28!!

I loved this book!! It has all the ingredients I knew I’d love; the external conflict plot is fast paced and exciting, the world building is rich and historical, and the characters are beautifully written and grow so much through their journey.
But, maybe because I’ve been feeling down about the world lately, what hit me in the feels the most was the radical acceptance Sira, Lykos, and Brita had for each other. I adored the dynamic between Sira’s lovers in the FFM dynamic. They were raised in such different worlds and neither fits perfectly into the box ascribed to them in their own cultures, but they find such beautiful acceptance and understanding in each other. Extended epilogues for the win to get to see more of them together (although I could have used one more chapter for our new friend😜)
The Dying Gods Series is already one of my most recommended series, and this 4th installment is not to be missed!

I loved this book! Honestly, I thought I would struggle a bit to get into it, partly because it's been a while since I read the previous books and partly because I've never really read FF before, but I was pleasantly surprised by how it hooked me in immediately. The series summary at the beginning of the book was incredibly helpful, so I didn't feel too lost and quickly got into the swing of the story.
As for the FF, Elisha Kemp does such a wonderful job of writing interesting characters and emotional relationships (both romantic and platonic), that even if the spicy scenes didn't always do much for me personally, I was still rooting for Sira and Britomartis. I also loved Lykos and the dynamics they all had between them.
I was completely hooked by the plot the whole way through, and I liked that it tied up all of the loose ends from the original trilogy. I thought that Brita's journey back to Thera felt very glossed over, considering the impact it has on her. I think it was covered in more detail in Dying Gods, but as this is also meant to work as a standalone, it felt like Brita's love for being on a ship and unease in her current role as priestess/second daughter came out of nowhere. But again, it was a minor thing and the rest of the story was wonderful.
It's clear that the author puts a tonne of effort into the research and world building of the time period and it really pays off. I love Elisha Kemp's writing and can't wait to see more from her!

It's been so good being back in this world! I loved the first trilogy so much, I couldn't wait to jump back in, especially as this book follows Britomartis, who I really liked, but felt like we were yet to truly discover her. Well, I wasn't disappointed! Her love story with Syra was so sweet, and then there's the addition of Lycos, which I did not see coming. I thought it was gonna be Syra and Brita only. It was all just so amazing. I was a little unsure about the FF at first since it's not really my thing, but turns out I didn't mind it at all. It was very well written. Now, as for the story, I loved it. So many things I didn't expect, but was pleasantly surprised to read. It's like all my favorite things from the first books were there (the ancient time setting, the gods, the prophecy, the fights, the political intrigue, the characters) and then it just build and build from there to create a really great story. Absolutely recommend but should definitely start with the first book to fully understand everything that's going on.

This series is one of the rare few that occasionally pops up in my head, because it has such an original plot and fascinating worldbuilding. Going back to this world with the fourth book in the series was a long awaited joy, and I absolutely loved it. Minas has the same strengths as the first three books: solid and strong characters, wonderful worldbuilding, a strong storyline and emotional highs and lows. It might not be for some due to the MFF romance dynamic, but if you loved the rest of the series I sincerely hope you’ll give it a chance.
In a way, this book can be read as a standalone, but I highly suggest reading the other three books first. The background to the story will be a lot more clear, and you’ll enjoy the présence of some side characters a lot more. It might have been a while since I’d read the first books, but the recap at the start made it easy to refresh my memory. And I loved everything I read after that.
I wouldn’t mind more books in this world in the future! But I happen to love everything this author writes, so I’ll be happy either way.

I have been looking forward to Brita’s story since the last Dying Gods book. This is a standalone but it helps to read the first three(plus they are so good, you should read them anyway). This story did not disappoint! It is fast paced and I love the historical aspect of this story. I was definitely transported back in time. The FMC is fierce, which I love! The relationship building of Sira, Brita, and Lykos was beautiful and so well-written! Can’t recommend it enough!!

This was a great continuation of the original Dying Gods trilogy! We get to see events happening that we heard about in the original books, while also getting to meet new characters and further get to know previously introduced characters. I am thrilled with this continuation, which says a lot because I usually get bored several books into a series.

A Dying God series was one of my favorite. I always anticipated the next installment. I was always curious about Britomartis. I have found myself always wanting to know more. And now the wait is over. Because now Minas is here and it is a MFF with Britomartis, Sira, and Lykos.
If you loved the first three books in the Dying God series hold on because you are also going to love this.
I still stand on everything when I say there is not enough FF and poly romance books out there. And Elisha Kemp did a fantastic job.
I thought the books pacing was fantastic. The dynamic between the characters was great as usual.
Make sure you’ve read the dying gods 1-3 before you’ve read this because if you don’t well, it can be red as a standalone you will have spoilers for the first three books if you don’t.
If you have read those books, you’re going to find out that in the beginning of this one there is a review of everything in the beginning, which is something that every single series should have! I loved this book so much! We finally learn what Britamartis has been up to while Adrienne was getting it on with 4 dudes in the first 3 books 🤣
Minas takes place during the events of The Dying Gods trilogy, in ancient Greece, where women are leaders; revered and respected. A Minas is essentially a queen of a Minoan civilization.
It is a love story that takes quite the journey to an HEA.
We meet new, lovable characters like Sira and Lyktos and learn more about the evils of Xenodice, Sira's older sister and the current Minas Crete.
I really enjoyed all the history I learned while reading this book. I know Elisha devoted so much time to researching Minoan culture, customs, and style...and it shows!
I highly recommend this book about powerful women finding their own love story. But definitely read The Dying Gods trilogy first.

It was so nice to be in this world again after Adrienne’s trilogy ended! I loved Brita in the books and I love her even more here! And I’m so into the relationship between the three, they are cute and strong at the same time ! The writing is beautiful. And I was so into the story at some point that I couldn’t put the book down (I had to sacrifice some sleeping hours, the next day at work might have been a little hard). This was a really nice read and I totally recommend it !

Sira had it all until Xenodice decided she deserved the title Minas Crete over her own sister and mother. Second daughter rose to claim the throne whilst third daughter was placed in Potina's temple to "serve" the goddess. Never mind the fact that the temple soon became a prison where Sira remained along with all the secrets that would guarantee her end! Sira refuses to just lie down and decides to continue helping her people any way she can. But is it enough?
When Britomartis enters Sira's life everything gets turned upside down. Sira shouldn't but she trusts Brit and gives up secrets and her heart. Only to taste heartbreak after making a crucial decision. One that has her questioning her own resolve when the feared Achean ships arrive at her doorstep. Xenodice making moves with Sira as a piece in a game that doesn't have Sira's best interests in mind. . . "Where will you stand when the storm comes?"

I was so excited for this story! And wasn't expecting all the twists and bonus MCs! Lykos will now forever have a special place in my heart! A giant, very observant, golden retriever but also a dangerous wolf when needed. Not to mention his sarcastic, smart alec behavior! The book does start out a little slow because we are going back to some of the previous events from "Burn the Stars". Understanding how the background characters are helping to influence the main story. But after the recap and establishing things hang on for the ride!

Brit had a plan, one that was semi solid until she actually met the intended individual. Sira stole Brit's breathe away and more. Sira becoming a catalyst that will set Britomartis on a new path. One that has her betraying a goddess, going against her own mother, stealing a fleet of ships, and potentially starting a war. Aw, the things we do for love! Brit has always been the perfect, dedicated daughter but now she is having to face some hard truths about herself! Will she accept them or shove them back down?
Lykos is one of the feared Achean even though truthfully, he hates it. Having to hide who he truly is or what he wants. Tasked with playing as his brother's hunting dog who will do whatever is asked of him, Lykos grows tired. When he intercepts a note for another Lykos finds himself chasing after a new thread of fate. Even if it means being noticed by the gods. . .
I agree with another reviewer who said it best about this story being "one of righting past wrongs"! Watching the growth of all the characters and how they leave behind past selves, ideas, and stereotypes. Brit also realizing that Sira is no longer the same meek and timid girl she left behind in the temple months ago. Enjoying how the different personalities and viewpoints came together and helped one another out even if two of them didn't want to admit it aloud!
This book does contain language, bloodshed, violence, and deaths. The Achean King fits into all the fears and stereotypes of what Sira and her people have heard about the barbarians. He confides in Lykos about some of the crude things he wishes to do. . . Understanding women's anatomy and periods. Monthly bleeds are seen differently during this time period and even considered sacred. Periods play a part in the main story and there is talk of blood. We get training montages with this read. Multiple POVs, Minoan Pantheon list and terms, and recap of main series!
We get FF action pretty quickly in this read while MF action is a little more of a slow burn. I really loved the different dynamics and how relationships were built and formed. Brit is only interested in Sira but has no issues guiding and ordering Lykos about. Him complaining all the way but secretly loving it. Lykos only interested in Sira romantically. Brit and Lykos relationship had me laughing so many times and appreciating it. The quick, sniping banter at one another and how their dynamic was more frenemies than lovers. Bi awakenings but only for each other. Virgins being educated, FFM action, and so much more.
I love Elisha's writing and how you can completely submerge yourself in this era! Not being thrown out by random modern things. I loved learning more about the gods/goddesses and how certain deities changed from one pantheon to the next. The unique sides of an Achean's views vs Minoan views. The different views in general and how certain things were seen as sacred and how life was back in this time. This book does end with a little bit of a cliffhanger, and I hope to see more of this cast!
Enjoy the next installment in this series during the Bronze Age Mediterranean, with a matriarchal society, living gods, stolen ships, power moves, barbing, and so much more! Don't forget to give the author some stars!

I was so excited for this story! And wasn't expecting all the twists and bonus MCs! Lykos will now forever have a special place in my heart! A giant, very observant, golden retriever but also a dangerous wolf when needed. Not to mention his sarcastic, smart alec behavior! The book does start out a little slow because we are going back to some of the previous events from "Burn the Stars". Understanding how the background characters are helping to influence the main story. But after the recap and establishing things hang on for the ride!

Brit had a plan, one that was semi solid until she actually met the intended individual. Sira stole Brit's breathe away and more. Sira becoming a catalyst that will set Britomartis on a new path. One that has her betraying a goddess, going against her own mother, stealing a fleet of ships, and potentially starting a war. Aw, the things we do for love! Brit has always been the perfect, dedicated daughter but now she is having to face some hard truths about herself! Will she accept them or shove them back down?
Lykos is one of the feared Achean even though truthfully, he hates it. Having to hide who he truly is or what he wants. Tasked with playing as his brother's hunting dog who will do whatever is asked of him, Lykos grows tired. When he intercepts a note for another Lykos finds himself chasing after a new thread of fate. Even if it means being noticed by the gods. . .
I agree with another reviewer who said it best about this story being "one of righting past wrongs"! Watching the growth of all the characters and how they leave behind past selves, ideas, and stereotypes. Brit also realizing that Sira is no longer the same meek and timid girl she left behind in the temple months ago. Enjoying how the different personalities and viewpoints came together and helped one another out even if two of them didn't want to admit it aloud!
This book does contain language, bloodshed, violence, and deaths. The Achean King fits into all the fears and stereotypes of what Sira and her people have heard about the barbarians. He confides in Lykos about some of the crude things he wishes to do. . . Understanding women's anatomy and periods. Monthly bleeds are seen differently during this time period and even considered sacred. Periods play a part in the main story and there is talk of blood. We get training montages with this read. Multiple POVs, Minoan Pantheon list and terms, and recap of main series!
We get FF action pretty quickly in this read while MF action is a little more of a slow burn. I really loved the different dynamics and how relationships were built and formed. Summary:
This fantasy book follows the story of three young characters who, from their trenches, find themselves fighting an inner conflict about the life purpose they have been granted—some by birthright, while others have been stripped of it by soulless mortal greed. In this relentless search for meaning, their fates become intertwined by the will—or entertainment—of the gods and are placed at the heart of the battlefield to wage the imminent war unleashed by the return of a goddess with a mortal heart and an illegitimate Minas, who impoverishes her people while forging alliances with the main enemies of the islands of Crete.

Some thoughts:
The effortless way in which Elisha draws us into this world and helps us envision every detail, gesture, and feeling is simply delightful to experience. The story's buildup is wonderful, allowing us to appreciate the historical background on which the series is based, introducing us to one of the lesser-explored yet most inspiring cultures.
The depiction of Sira, Brita, and Lykos’s individual paths—their longings and desires—while keeping us in tune with the political and cultural situation of Knossos, is so graceful and yet so emotionally charged that, without even realizing it, you become immersed in it. Each main character, with their own uniqueness, shows us their point of view on the situations they are facing, highlighting their disagreements with the gods' ways, their exploration of new skills and emotions, and how these will shape their future.
The Dying Gods series (Drown the Sea) was one of my most unexpected yet incredible discoveries of 2024. Seeing the culmination of this story through the eyes of Sira, Britomartis, and Lykos has been simply fantastic. As a final book in the saga, it is wonderful, tying up all the loose ends. I only wish I could have known a bit more about how Sira is rebuilding her homeland and claiming her position as Minas, about Lykos, her ships, and how they are adjusting to their new surroundings, and about the new role Brita will choose now that she is no longer bound by duty.
Thank you, Elisha, for a story so full of intrigue, romantic and platonic love (without labels), complex culture, and powerful characters!

This series will always hold a special place in my heart.
From the time Elisha took to create a world based off of fact and fiction. Introducing us to the Minoan-Bronze Age and creating a why choose romance with it was done just right.
There is just something about this story line that sucks you and has you wanting more.
After reading the first 3 books I was hoping that Brita would finally get her turn, and she did, and it was done so beautifully.
We were introduced to some of her struggles throughout the first 3 books, but still, it didn't prepare me for the path this story would take.
What started as a way for Brita to gather information turned into so much more when she got to know Sira Asterion's sister, who was hidden away from the world. Dark secrets were whispered, but not to be shared will set the direction of the story.
But the gods and goddesses have other plans because in this world, you are a part of their game.
Brita set out on a mission, Sira staying with her people. This is when Lykos comes in to steal Sira from his brother in the hopes of gaining something more.
The growth and the love that unfolds in this story is beyond words.

Eagerly anticipated I couldn't put this book down! It flowed so nicely from the end of the third book in the Dying God Series and I loved that it picked out Brita and Sira as the leads. I loved the addition of Lykos, he is such a fun character and the addition of another male!
You can tell Elisha has done so much research in to the history and area, you can really feel that she's been there. With the descriptions so evocative of the place - "I stare at the somber, barren landscape, strewn with boulders and the occasional gnarled shrub. A thin copse of trees shudders in the wind, any sign of autumn leaves blown away long ago from their naked branches. There is no Knossos, no coast. No farmland or carefully tended olive trees. The only landmark is Mount Ida, looming above us, like a monument carved by the hands of the gods themselves."
Like all her other books I didn't want it to end, and I hope there is a sequel in this beautiful series of when woman were warriors.

I really, really enjoyed reading this book!
We get to see Britomartis’ story with Sira & Lykos.
Brita is dealing with her brother & Adrienne’s adventures whilst also trying to overthrow the Minas Crete who is doing nothing for her people & actively trying to get rid of her sister, Sira. Upon meeting Sira, Brita forms a quick bond that leaves both women wanting more.
However, Sira is dealing with the fact that her sister, the Minas Crete, is not fit to rule whilst also trying to avoid being hurt because of her. But when her sister sets her up to pledge to King Atreus of Mycenae, Sira realizes she’ll be stuck.
That’s until the King’s younger brother, Lykos, receives a note via bird about an uprising & tried to help save Sira from his brother. What he hadn’t intended was to catch feelings for her as well.
Together these two along with the help of Britain try to find a way to relieve the Minas Crete of her throne & have Sira sitting there. They get help from the other Minas & also help via Adrienne & her guys.
I loved the story building & getting to learn more about these people & their gods.
I absolutely loved the relationship building as well between Sira, Brita, & Lykos. Again it was different but so good!
