Xaden Riorson thought he had figured out how to survive in this place. Now in his final year at Basgiath War College, he’s risen to the rank of Wingleader. He is focused on one thing: getting every kid of the rebellion bonded to a dragon. Then the real work can begin.
But he hadn’t counted on Violet Sorrengail, the General’s daughter, entering the Rider’s Quadrant. She’s not supposed to be here and she’s about to throw every plan he has made into chaos. Can he trust her? And more importantly, can he trust himself?
This follows the dialogue and events of Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing, retold from Xaden’s perspective. This was written prior to the release of Iron Flame, so all theories and speculation are my own and unconfirmed. It's my best guess at exploring how Xaden might have felt throughout the story and features new scenes with Liam, Garrick, Imogen, Sgaeyl and Tairn. Major plot spoilers from the very first chapter.
I love my shadow daddy Xaden. Reading this book from his POV was a delight and almost more enjoyable than reading it through Violets tbh. He falls first and falls hard and honestly, can do no wrong.
this was incredibleeee 😭 ugh this was just perfect, I absolutely LOVEDDD hearing xaden’s thoughts and seeing his point of view to the story, it makes me love him 1000x more 😭😭 this cured my fourth wing hangover so good. I felt like the writing was so believable to what yarros would write and how she would write it!! if she ever came out with a published copy of xadens pov I would loveee for it to go just like this
This is a decent take on Xadens POV. After reading the actual Xaden POV chapters from the original fourth wing books I can definitely say it didn’t feel like Xadens POV but still a great take.
Fourth Wing: Xaden's POV by Belle_Beebee So this is my first fan fiction I have ever read, this is from Archive of Our Own. I loved this, its been a while since l've read Fourth Wing and this was like a new take a great story, but it's so interwoven with the original story. It was great seeing Xaden side of things. The angst, frustration, responsibility he has over the marked ones. Also getting a bit more character development on Imogen, Liam, Bodhi, Garrick etc. The only downside, which I realized halfway through, was that I would have to relive Liam through Xadens eyes - and that was massive *emotional damage*. I devoured this in a day, so hooked.
This was my first time reading a fanfic and I was not disappointed! It was so great going back into the world of Basgiath and reliving the story from Xaden's point of view. I know the author wrote this before IF had come out and after reading both I think she did a great job filling in the gaps and that a lot of this could definitely be plausible, it was awesome to help with the hangover until the next book comes out!!
Fav quote: “Gods, I love her like this. Fired up, passionate and determined not to budge an inch. The tension between us feels electric.”
Rebecca Yarros did it better. BUT, I loved the Xaden POV. It’s everything I wanted. If only Yarros integrated more of Xaden’s POV in FW. All in all, great read. And my first fanfic!
first fanfiction!! i think the fact that i got through the whole thing in one day attests to its quality :) p.s. i still haven't finished the acomaf fanfiction - i'm contemplating rereading the real acomaf to get me excited before trying again with the fanfic
awhhh cuties. It was so interesting to see his POV and how morally torn he is constantly. Bless him. He loves her but has a responsibility to the rebellion. loveee seeing how much he was just pinning for her
As a fan of Fourth Wing, I was intrigued by the idea of seeing the story from Xaden’s perspective. This retelling offers some interesting insights into his thoughts and motivations, especially in moments where his actions in the original book felt cryptic or calculated. Seeing the deeper layers of his internal struggles and loyalties added a fresh dimension to his character.
That said, while the extra perspective was engaging at times, the execution didn’t always feel as compelling as it could have been. Some scenes felt like a straightforward retelling rather than a true expansion, and Xaden’s voice didn’t always distinguish itself as strongly as I’d hoped. There were moments where his emotions came through powerfully, but others where it felt like I was just revisiting Fourth Wing without enough new depth.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable read for fans who want more Xaden, but it doesn’t always add as much as I was hoping for. A solid supplement, but not essential.
I had to keep reminding myself that this was in fact a fan fic and not the real damn thing although, I would beg to differ. The amount of times I giggled and kicked my feet was absurd especially at 1am in the morning. It makes my reread of Iron Flame that much easier, so thank you and chefs kisses all around ;)
This was such a good read to help cure my hangover from this world. I still can't bring myself to let go of our dragon riders but for now this will have to do until Rebecca graces us with book number 4.
JUST the pick-me-up I needed after mourning finishing Iron Flame a month prior to the release of Onyx Storm. He fell first & fell HARD for Violence, I’m so here for it. Shadow Daddy Xaden 4evaaaaa 🖤
I usually love fan fiction but not this one. This doesn’t feel like Xaden. In fact, all of the character’s personalities are off. And some of the details are off. I wouldn’t recommend this one.
