Friends First #2

Prima Donna

Rate this book
In a witty, sizzling, and tender romance for readers of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery, a woman who can’t slow down discovers that the perfect guy is in hot pursuit.

Even when her hair salon goes under and she’s on the brink of breaking, Regan Burke keeps her “I’m just fine” attitude. She’s had a tough life, coping with a difficult family and keeping her act together... barely. Right now, she just needs a job, any job, so she can pay her mother’s medical bills. It’s the exact wrong time for Carter Scott to come into her life — and to be so damn sexy, so distracting, and so determined to get close.

Carter isn’t looking for anything serious — his heart belongs to the kids who depend on his pediatric practice — but something about Regan makes him reconsider. Maybe it’s the scars she hides so well, the secrets she can’t share. Carter knows all about that kind of pain, and he wants to help. But offering Regan a job in his office only makes things worse, even if their chemistry is off the charts. Lucky for them both, Carter isn’t about to let go of love without a fight.

5 shiny stars!

WOW! I don't even know where to begin with my rant.
I LOVED everything about this story.

The writing, story, and the characters were well.. amazing, real, funny, intense, broken, compassionate, and full of so much love.

I LOVED Regan and Carter's characters!

Regan is one amazing chick!
She's strong, compassionate, smart, sassy, and when she loves.. she loves hard.
Her love and dedication to her mom is inspiring and heart-breaking.
When Carter and her 'hook up' on New Years Ever, she is looking for nothing more than a distraction in her already chaotic life. It's not until he touches her (and her whole body shivers to his touch), or he kisses her with an intensity and hunger she's never felt before that she realizes she's in deep trouble.

 photo intimatekiss-2.jpg

.. and then there's Carter
I love him!
His compassion, dedication, and love for those important to him is admirable and inspiring.
He's got some major committment issues, but they're understandable considering 'his' story.
When he touches and kisses Regan for the first time, He gets "zinged".
He can't get her smell, touch, and 'her' out of his mind. This has never happened to him before, and he doesn't know what to do.

 photo hairpullingkiss.jpg

All of a sudden he wants to be a better man.

Their journey together was wonderful to read, and I felt I was right there along with them through it all.

Even after finishing this story last night, I'm still re-capping "My" favorite parts in my mind.. and that my friends is why I rated it 5 star book.
When I'm still thinking about a book a day later, and the characters and story are still with me, then to me that makes it 5 star worthy.

I truly hope you give this wonderful story a try, it think you'll really enjoy it!

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

4.5 yodalicious stars!

Laura gives us a delightfully fun and sexy story with hearts and flower, having me in giddy anticipation of each chapter with her Star Wars humor.

I’ll get this out first. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, so when cutesy pickup lines were delivered coupled with the fact that each chapter started with a Han Solo Empire Strikes Back relevant quote to what was to follow and I was in nerd girl heaven.

Of course it didn’t hurt that lines like that were conveyed by an incredibly hot motorcycle riding pediatrician who was completely dedicated to his kid patients.

We met Carter and his womanizing ways in Plaine Jayne, but in spite of them I was completely charmed by him and really wanted him to have his own book. I got my wish!

We had also briefly met Regan, but in this book we really get to know her. I really admired her strong personality and independence. Her less than easy personal life is something she keeps under lock and key, always putting on a brave and happy façade, never letting it be a reason to bother anyone, but also never letting anyone close much less in.

Even though the fireworks between Regan and Carter were literally and figuratively present on New Year’s Eve, circumstances and their personalities force them to keep their distance. Slowly building a friendship in which they find they can lean on one another, trust and share their fears and secrets. Their affection and love is undeniable even when they try to fight it.

This is a sweet, amusing and sizzling romance that can be read as a stand-alone. I can’t guess as to who’s next, but I’ll certainly be waiting.

My thoughts/feelings while reading - lots of quotes included (May have spoilers) :) -

0% Randomly chose this book - Im gonna start it tomorrow :) It seems interesting - the blurb has really taken my interest :) Its been a long time since I read the first in this series so Im gonna go read my review to try and jog my memory :) (I have a vague recollection of it) :)

6% which meant Regan’s savings were slowly withering
Oh poor regan! :( she's having a tough time - looking forward to seeing more of her n
Carter! I'm starting to really enjoy their flirting/banter! :D

8% “Oh my—” Regan snorted, laughed right out loud, and eyed him over her shoulder. “You’re just embarrassing yourself.
Hahaha oh Carter! Those lines are hilarious! Imagine if someone actually seriously used that hahahaha :D

9% “He’s okay. Better than Number Two.” “Maya. Just because your bastard cheating ex is a teacher, and a proven dickhead, doesn’t mean all teachers are dickheads.” “Yeah, well, you know what they say about one bad apple.” Maya added another tomato to her plate and grinned. “See what I did there? Teachers, apples.” “Hilarious,” Regan groaned. “Too bad Ellie’s not here, Jayne could’ve tried to hook her up with one of them.” “Better one of them than Brett.” “Ha! Not even Jayne would try to hook Ellie up with a cop, especially the one whose signature is on about ninety-five percent of her speeding tickets.
Oh am I sensing set ups for Maya n Ellie?! I hope so! :D I know there's two more books which I'm hoping are theirs! :D

10% “Me and you, Red.” He took another sip of his beer, his dark eyes never leaving hers. “Midnight.” “Not gonna happen.” “Oh, come on. Give me one good reason why not
Haha their flirting is amazing! <3 I love it!

11% “Get a room,” he grunted, pushing them away. “Got one,” Nick grinned, his hazel eyes twinkling. “But Jayne won’t let me get her naked until you guys leave, so anytime you’re ready to go…” “Nick!” Jayne cried, but he just laughed, wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and ushered her back into the living room.
Haha aww I so glad we get to see more of Jayne and Nick! :D

12% Regan’s snort was loud and harsh. She’d just as soon let her turn pass, thank you very much, and there was no way she was going to wait for anything ever again. She’d done enough of that growing up.
Oh regan! :'( I never would have guessed that was how you grew up! :'( :'(

13% The line went dead and she let the phone drop to the couch beside her as she heaved out another breath. It hadn’t gone too badly, and it didn’t seem like her mom was on the edge of doing herself any harm, so it was probably safe to ring in the New Year now
? From what we know of her mum so far I dont really like her! But I am curious as to why she's where she is

15% And just like that, he whipped the shirt up over her head, leaving her standing in nothing but her underwear. Regan knew she was no supermodel, but the way he stared at her, his dark eyes widening, his mouth tipped up in the barest of smiles, and his breath coming out in a low whistle, she may as well have been. If he did nothing else right for the rest of the night, he’d get full marks for that.
Definitely starting to love Carter!! :D

16% And while they were at it, maybe he’d shock the hell out of Jayne by telling her it had been months since he’d last slept with a woman. Seven and a half to be exact, but who was counting? He didn’t even get a chance to open his mouth because Jayne was still yelling at him.
Oh wow! Maybe Carter isn't a womaniser like everyone thinks! And while Jayne should let him talk I do love that she's trying to protect her friend! :D <3

17% Arms crossed, head tipped to the side, she all but dared Carter to deny it. He didn’t. He couldn’t. All he could do was lean back against the counter and try not to lose his grip on his glass.
:O OMG Carter!! :'( oh poor Carter! :'( I was not expecting that at all!

18% If he tried hard enough, maybe he could pretend not to recognize that look and everything would go on as it usually did. Except there wasn’t anything usual about Regan; not in the way she looked, moved, spoke, or smiled. She’d all but told Carter he looked like shit and she hadn’t thought twice about kicking him out of her bed when she was done with him. He liked that. He liked it a lot.
I LOVE that Carter can't get Regan out of his head! :D

21% “Hey, Carter!” A cool guy would have walked back slowly instead of running. A cool guy would have watched where he was going instead of tripping off the curb and crashing into the rear bumper of her car. At least he stuck the landing
Hahahahah Carter!! :D <3

23% “Calling bullshit on that, too. Look, Red, if you don’t want to talk about it, just tell me it’s none of my business; don’t lie to me.” “All righty then.” She popped a piece of her sandwich in her mouth and grinned wider. “It’s none of your business.” “Okay. See, I’m good with that.” Now who was lying?
I'm really starting to love these two together! :D enjoying this book so far! :)

25% Red.
I love that nickname - it reminds me of Tack n Tyra from motorcycle man! :D

26% Since when did making some chick happy take precedence over making himself happy? Carter scrubbed his palms down his face and grunted out a curse. Twenty-four hours ago the answer to that would have been never, but then he’d stood beside Regan and watched her heart break as her business drove off in the back of a battered U-Haul. From that second, something changed, and for some unknown dumb-ass reason, he wanted to be the one to make her happy. Shit!
Awww not shit - Yayyyy! :D can't wait to see more of this book - gonna try n make more time for this book if I can! But pretty busy atm n I'm trying to get up to date with reviews as well :/"

34% “Maybe I didn’t mention it before, but I’m not a chick, and if I was hungry, I would have ordered something.
Haha go Regan! When is Carter gonna realise she's not like all the other 'chicks' hahaha :D

35% She sucked both lips between her teeth and tried not to laugh. “Ooooh, Carter, I’m so sorry. My hands were cold.
Hahahahahaha poor carter!! Haha :D

38% “Tell you what.” He tipped his head to the bananas on the tray. “If you eat everything they bring you from now on, we’ll have a Mario Kart marathon on Saturday after my shift.
Awww carter! I love how he is with Erin! He knows what it's like so can relate to her! He's her doctor but also her friend! I love how caring he is! <3

39% "What’s up with that?” Carter asked, pointing at the box spring. “D’you sleep on the floor last night?” “Uh, yeah. Was too tired to set my room up.” Julia grabbed some beers out of the fridge and thrust one at each of them. “I’ll start in the kitchen.” Her voice sounded weird, like she was trying to make a point, but when Carter looked up at Rossick, he just shrugged and turned toward his room.
Hahah I think I know where he slept haha <3

She wasn’t worried over the fact she would no doubt be spending most of her time in the hospital over the next few months; her only worry was if she could cut Carter’s hair again. So wrong.
Awwww Carter!! That's so cute! I can't believe that! Aww <3 <3

40% Got nothing read today but I'm way too tired and even though it's only 9.30 I need sleep :( definitely going to try n read a lot tomorrow :D

42% “Wasn’t sure if you’d still be here or not after that.” Something tugged inside Carter; something deep in his gut that opened into a giant empty cavern, but it wasn’t his emptiness he felt, it was hers.
Oh Regan! :( and I love that carter cares so much about Regan even if he doesn't know why <3

43% “Wasn’t until she got pregnant that things started going sideways.” “Jeezus, Regan, you don’t think…” Everything her mother said played over and over in Carter’s mind. He closed his eyes and ground his teeth together. “It’s not your fault.
Oh Regan!! :'( I love that carter came back - he gave her what she needed earlier but he won't let her be alone! He wants to help her! I'm really enjoying these two - just wish I had more reading time :(

44% Her eyes blinked too fast to count, but she didn’t have to finish; Carter knew what she was going to say. They’d eventually just leave. Her words sat like bricks in his gut, one on top of the other, weighing him down. She might be wrong about causing her mom’s illness, but she was bang-on about people dealing with it.
Oh Regan! :( :'(

47% They all laughed, but over a long, slow sip of her beer, Regan watched unease flicker across Ellie’s hazel eyes. It was the same thing every time they talked about her going out with a man. Or not going out, as was the usual case with Ellie. “Are you ever going to tell us why you’re afraid to go out for anything more than coffee?
Ohh I'm curious?? Very curious?

48% The smile on Jayne’s face said everything she didn’t. Weed, flower, it didn’t matter. All that mattered was Nick regularly found her some and brought them home. How he managed that in the middle of winter was a secret only he and Maya knew.
Awwwww Nick! <3

50% The only time he left her side was when he went to fetch water or chicken broth, and the only time he spoke was when she repeatedly told him to go home, to which he repeatedly told her to shut up and go back to sleep. It was ridiculous and unnecessary. It was also really nice
Awww Carter! <3
I am enjoying this book n I'm loving Carter (and regan :D) but I have limited reading time n because I'm so tired it's even worse :( and I'm finding I'd rather sit and watch tv and my laptop then read :( I'm hoping to read a lot tomorrow night though

58% So I ended up falling asleep instead of reading :'( :'( I hate being so tired :'( I just wanna read my book! :'("
Regan blew out a long, slow breath and forced herself to look up at him. “I can’t believe I’m doing this, but…she’s my mother; she needs me.
Oh regan! This shows just how amazing you are! I know your mothers ill but no one would blame you at all for taking this opportunity at all! Especially with how she was while you were growing up (ill of not) :'( <3

59% The smile started way down at her toes and built momentum until it burst across her mouth. Before she could overthink it, she pulled out her phone, Googled pictures of Yoda, and attached one to a text.
Aww these two are so cute and perfect! <3

63% “I sorta slept in it.” “Gimme a fuckin’ break,” Carter whimpered, pressing his fists against his eye sockets. His stupid hockey jersey was getting more action than he was.
Oh poor Carter haha! Regans definitely not making life easy for him haha <3 <3

65% There was no pity, there was no panic, and there was no freaking out. Instead, it felt as though they’d built a fortress around Regan, and if the look in their eyes was any indication, there’d be hell to pay if anyone tried to break through that fortress.
See regan! They're not gonna leave! They love you!!! <3

66% “Baby steps, that’s all we’re going to do. We’re here for you whenever you need us, no matter what, no matter when, no matter why.” “No matter nothing,” Jayne added. “Damn right.” Ellie lifted her glass, tapped it against Regan’s bottle, and winked over a grin.
Awww I LOVE THESE GIRLS! <3 <3

68% As good a nurse as Tracy was, she wasn’t built for pediatrics; she hadn’t uttered a word to the kid the whole time, hadn’t tried to comfort him or his mother, and the closest she’d come to touching T.J. was when she swabbed him with the gauze.
I'm kinda glad for that coz it means we get to see regan in a different light (a light I love her in btw!) im loving seeing Carter and regan work together seemlessly! <3

70% “He’s the one, isn’t he, dear?” “The one what?” Even with a distance of thirty-odd feet and a wood door between them, Carter could hear the waver in Regan’s voice. “The one you said makes your kneecaps melt; that’s him.” Carter strained to hear, even pressed his ear against the door, but no matter how much he wanted her to, Regan never answered the question.
Oh I love these two so much!!, and Mrs g is awesome!! <3

71% “Whatever happens, happens. If you want to stay all day, that’s what we’ll do. If you want to leave two minutes after we get there, that’s what we’ll do.” “Yeah, but you have things to do today, so you can’t be waiting around with me—” “Why can’t I?” Regan looked up, fully expecting him to be grinning back at her, but he wasn’t. He was serious.
I LOVE that Carter won't let her do this alone! No matter how much she protests he won't change his mind! <3

74% Without even thinking, she leaned over the console and kissed him on the cheek. “Thank you.
Oh I love Carter sooo much!! <3

75% Decked out in a pale pink leotard with matching tutu and sparkling purple fairy wings, the little girl couldn’t have been more than four or five, with huge blue eyes and sparse white-blond wisps of hair that sprouted from her head like soft down feathers. Carter’s words slammed into Regan’s heart like a freight train. It always grows back.
Why is Carter so fucking perfect?!

77% Frowning, she leaned back again, waiting for him to explain. “I’m going to take you to meet Emily.
Oh yay! I hope this means Carters gonna tell her :) also love regans reaction to carter n hazel! She's right Carter is one of the best men ever! <3

78% She waited until he looked up at her and then she smiled, not because any of this was funny, but because for the first time she actually started to believe what she was about to say. “Sometimes, for no apparent reason, biology and chemistry cause some kind of shit-storm inside a person. It’s no one’s fault, it just happens.” Finally, a grin, small as it was. “I know,” he said, doing a horrible impersonation of her. “I’ve read all about it.
Awww why are these two so perfect! I hate having no time to read sooo much!!

79% “Do you have a minute?” she asked as she opened the door to her apartment. “Uh, yeah. What do you need?” “This.” She tossed her coat over the back of the tub chair, shoved him back against the closed door, and kissed him. Hard. Long. And hungry as hell
Finally!! Go regan!! <3 <3 <3

He didn’t mean to growl like that, but come on!
Sooo hot! <3 <3 I love love love how than can affect Carter!! <3

80% Last time she cut it, you told me it looked like shit.” “That was before I met her.” She ran her cool fingers through his hair, toying with the ends and making him groan until he couldn’t stand it anymore and had to kiss her again. “Before I knew you.” “What difference—” She silenced him by pressing her mouth against his, not to kiss him, but just to smile against him. “It makes every difference.
I LOVE that! It shows how amazing Regan is! <3 <3 and Carter obviously! <3

81% See, right there—that was one of the reasons he loved her. Anyone else would’ve…ooooh shiiit. He loved her. He. Loved. Regan. There weren’t many things he’d known for certain in his life, but this…this was about as clear as crystal ever got
Perfect! <3 I LOVE regans reaction! <3 I so so so hope these two don't go backwards now!

84% “How could you ever doubt that?” She jerked the door closed behind her and didn’t slow down until she was halfway home.
I love so much how she defended Carter! <3 <3

counterproposal
Oh? I'm so curious! I need to go sleep but I can't put this down!!! <3

86% Regan sucked her lips in behind her teeth to stop from laughing, and when she looked up, Jayne and Maya were doing the same thing. “Funny,” Ellie groused.
Haha I really hope that Ellies book is with Brett! And that its the next one!

87% “We signed the papers this morning.
I have feeling I know what's going on?! I hope I'm right!

89% “Of course I knew. How stupid do you think I am?” “How did you find out?” “It ain’t rocket science, Jules.
Haha go Carter!! <3 <3 <3

92% What she wanted wasn’t going to happen, and that was made perfectly clear when he nodded slowly, pressed a long, slow kiss against her forehead, and walked out of her apartment for the last time.
:'( :'(

93% Mrs. G
Omg! I never ever ever expected that to happen! <3 mrs G!

94% Carter had never told her to stay, he’d hardly even put up an argument. All he’d asked was if she was sure that’s what she wanted to do. How could she have missed that? Shit! A few days ago, she’d torn a strip off Julia and Rossick over the same thing, about how he wanted them to be happy, to have what they wanted, not what he wanted, because he loved them.
Finally regan realises!! :D <3

95% “Yeah. I lied to you.” “ ’Bout what?” Carter rested his elbows on his bent knees, and dangled the beer bottle from his fingers. “I, uh…” She bit her bottom lip, shrugged slowly and tried once again to rein in her grin. “I am, in fact, completely useless with a hammer.” It started slowly, one heartbeat at a time, his eyes softened and the tension around his mouth began to ease
Aww I totally n utterly LOVE these two! <3

100% Amazing! I hated that I had no time to read this week! I devoured this book as soon as I could! Last night I had a nap then stayed up to 2.30 reading this book as I couldn't put it down! <3 loved it! Carter n regan were perfect together! Totally recommend this book/series! Can't wait to start the next one soon as I think it's already out! :D <3 5 stars!!"

4.5 Stars! Dr Carter Scott is the ultimate book boyfriend. Sexy, charming and a pediatrician who loves kids - this guy is a keeper! I really enjoyed this book. There was really nice character development and I loved the way that Regan and Carters relationship develops. It's very sweet and there is definitely some great sexual tension. I really enjoyed this book and hope the author is going to write more books with more of the supporting characters in this story. Both Maya and Ellie need to have their story told. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a sweet, well written romance.

I really enjoyed Prima Donna. It was a sweet love story with a lot of heart. This is the second book by Laura Drewry that I’ve read and I am now definitely a fan of her writing. Prima Donna is a companion novel to Plain Jayne, which was also just as good. What I really like about Laura’s stories is that there isn’t any over the top drama and the relationships/romance builds slowly. No instant love, but they actually get to know each other and become friends too along the way. I’m not trying to say this book was boring because it wasn’t at all. It held my attention the whole time and kept me wanting to read more.

Prima Donna is about Regan Burke and Carter Scott. We first meet both in Plain Jayne, Regan is Jayne’s good friend and Carter is friend/cousin to Jayne and Nick. I really like Regan; she was strong, independent and a little stubborn. She never had an easy life, dealing with a mother that was never the kind of mother she should have been. Regan has worked hard to run her own beauty salon, but when her landlord decides to sell the building her salon is in, Regan is forced to close up shop. Now facing not being able to pay her bills and her mother’s medical expenses, Regan not sure what she is going to do.

Pediatrician Doctor Carter Scott is a playboy. He goes from one girl to the next, never wanting to put down roots, either with a girl or in his job. I loved Carter from the start, he was funny, sweet, and I melted whenever he interacted with the children in the hospital. Plus, he rides a motorcycle, what more could a girl want!

Carter and Regan have met a few times, but sparks fly on New Year’s Eve. What was supposed to be only a one-time thing turns into a great friendship. Carter and Regan, who both hold all their secrets close and don’t let anyone in, finally found someone they can really open up too and share those secrets within each other. Carter and Regan try to fight their feelings for each other, but that can only last so long.

I recommend Prima Donna to anyone who likes a sweet romance with substance. Prima Donna can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend reading Plain Jayne first because Jayne and Nick show up a lot in Prima Donna. And for those who are Star Wars fans there are some very funny references to the movies, plus each chapter starts with a quote from Han Solo.

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.

This book had a bit of a slow build for me, but the second half more than made up for it. I loved Carter! Who wouldn't love a pediatrician who lets a young cancer patient cut his hair - more than once - to make her happy?! Regan's life is a mess. My heart ached for her on more than one occasion.

Carter re-enters Regan's life at just the right time - for both of them. They were made for each other and I'm so glad they got their happily ever after!!!

This is very sweet friends to lovers romance book!

You know one of those read that are just right! The one were you fall in love with characters and then you just follow their story. Sure this one certainly is based on friendship first, so if that is your troupe pick up this series... But then this one has also a big emotional moments with what main characters are going trough and some questions that is not really talked about in books.

This is swoon worthy read.
Read just for the feelgood aspect of it!!
Adorable!

Loved this one! A great small town romance that is filled with emotion, humor, and fun romantic times. Reagan is a fiercely independent woman who is immediately overwhelmed when Carter, the fun loving womanizing doctor, pushes into her life. This is one you should put on the must read list. I highly recommend it!

Saying everything’s fine doesn’t make it true, no matter how many times Regan repeats the words. Her mother’s health isn’t getting any better, and the cost of her care has been eating away at what little savings she has. And as if that wasn’t enough to deal with, now she’s losing her business, forced to close her salon when the landlord sells the building and there’s nowhere else in town where she can rent. And it’s not like being unemployed makes her a great candidate for a loan. So when Carter Scott shows up, looking all kinds of delicious and offering a much needed distraction… Well, who can blame her for letting things get a little carried away. After all, it’s just one night. Isn’t it?

I’m kind of beyond words. With Prima Donna, Laura Drewry has perfectly combined humor, angst, and romance into an incredibly entertaining, emotional story that I’ll most likely read over and over again.

Regan is self-sufficient, independent, and determined to handle whatever problems she has on her own. Her life has never been easy, but she’s worked hard to make something of herself and of the career she loves, and even when faced with losing it all, she refuses to let it get her completely down. Where most women in her shoes would throw an epic pity party, she stubbornly refuses to accept any sympathy and resolves to take whatever job she can get until she can reopen her salon and move forward.

Carter is most definitely not looking for a relationship, but he’s not that player that you love to hate and hate to love. Sure, he’s cocky and makes no secret of his no-strings status, but he’s witty and silly and so good at heart that I almost forgot about his playboy ways. His odd fascination with Regan, not to mention her stubborn independence, makes for an awkward friendship that slowly but surely grows into something much more substantial.

What I loved most about their story (and was true of Plain Jayne as well) is that nothing was rushed. Neither Regan nor Carter pushed themselves too far into each others’ lives, they didn’t end up in a bunch of contrived situations that forced them to be alone together, and they took their time getting to know each other before letting that one night mark the beginning of something important. Their backgrounds are slowly revealed to show the struggles they both have with commitment and dependence on other people, and that shared fear allows them to understand and eventually get close enough to each other that they can’t deny they have something special. And don’t even get me started on their sizzling chemistry!

Prima Donna is entertaining, heartwarming, and fun, and I’d venture to say it’s the perfect book for true fans of romance who are tired of reading the same old formulaic stories. It’s fresh, often hilarious, and sometimes heartbreaking, but in the end, it’s simply perfect. I can’t wait to read whatever Drewy comes up with next!

Not your average "Prima Donna", Regan is an independent woman determined to stay that way... but when hot Carter keeps coming round, it's more challenging keeping her distance! Both have past expereinces which seem to be perfectly logical reasons for both to never trust or commit to others. I loved the way the story slowly revealed the background of their private struggles through warm relationships with their long-time friends and others. I adored the quotes at the beginning of each chapter as well as the ongoing references throughout the story - what a hoot! I roared with laughter at Carter's sly "...all Wookie where it counts." As for hockey - yes, I did know who Stan Smyl is!
The author, Laura Drewry, is very skilled at developing details of all the friends and others in this book; some of them, I dearly want to find out what's next, in future books about them. I smiled through most of this romance, and teared up a few times as well. By the time I got near the end, I was echoing Mrs. G "...shit or get off the pot." A very satisfying romance with an unusual pair of wonderful people. I sighed gustily and wanted the next book right away! Keep writing Ms Drewry, I'll be waiting for another happily-ever-after story.

Disclaimer: I received a pre-print proof of this book to review, from NetGalley; there were no incentives other than the opportunity to read this book and to post an honest review. Done.

This was my first Laura Drewry book, and from the cover, I was guessing it would be a sweet, funny read--yay for covers getting it right!! LOL!! Only, it was also sexy and heartbreaking and satisfying in all the right places. Without giving too much away, the book had me at Regan's shock over Carter's hair. Well, when the author got around to giving us the reason for his crazy hair, I fell for Carter even more.

Laura Drewry totally delivers on this wonderfully poignant book. If you enjoy stories about friends who become so much more, then this is a must-read!!

4.5 I loved this book so so so much stars

***ARC Kindly Provided by Publisher via NetGalley in Exchange for and Honest Review.***

This book... Wow! I thought I liked Plain Jayne... But this one is off the charts!!! I fell in love with both characters... And I also felt their pain! Really! Laura, keep writing wonderful books just like this one! I don't know how it's possible, but each character is more amazing than the other. I hope this series get more books!!!

I'm gonna write more... I promise! I just really don't have enough time to sit down and write the review this book truly deserves... But know this: this story deserves an amazing review!!!

-----------

So, I've been waiting for this book since I read Plain Jayne... and I've been waiting patiently

but it never became a series (you know, that gray part right next to the name of the book, where you click and every book from that series appear?). I was so upset because I really liked the story and I wanted to know "What's next?"...

Then, I decided to check it again, but nothing... =(

So I checked the author's books. There were some stand alone, so I read each blurb... Then I saw this one! Now, you can imagine me after reading this blurb right?

I really love these feel-good books. Just like Plain Jayne, Laura left me feeling all sorts of happy. Sometimes you just need a straight-forward love story without angst or heart wrenching moments. This was one of those. I cried and laughed ( a lot) and just really enjoyed the story line and the characters. Also, I love Laura's writing style.

Regan and Carter's story was great and I loved these two characters. Even though the story is sweet, there are some tender moments that are so beautifully written they made my Kindle sizzle. That 1st kiss was….wow! I also loved the Star Wars references. hee hee

I was lucky enough to have received an advanced copy of this book. I hope everyone reads it because I KNOW you'll love it. I can't wait to read more about those secondary characters!!! ; )

Prima Donna is the second book featuring our close-knit group of friends from Newport Ridge. This was a heartwarming story of overcoming past insecurities and outside opinions to find a future you never knew you wanted.

Summary:
Regan Burke is just fine. So her mother is ill, she had to close her business, and isn't seeing anyone. She's still just fine, and will maintain that attitude until she breaks. Life hasn't been easy for the fiery redhead, growing up with a difficult family, but she's in no way giving up. She just needs a job, any job, so she can continue to take care of her mom and hopefully save enough to get her own building, and then she'll be back on track. What she absolutely doesn't need, doesn't want, is to be distracted by the undeniably sexy Carter Scott. Carter is the last man on Earth to be looking for any type of serious relationship. He's perfectly content with a no strings night or two, but his heart and attention belong to his pediatric patients. Besides that, Carter has some demons from his own past haunting his decisions and future. But seeing Regan more socially, through mutual friends, has Carter intrigued by the green-eyed beauty. He sees through the front Regan puts up for their friends, and he can't stop himself from wanting to help. Unfortunately for him, Regan isn't remotely close to sharing her secret scars. Luckily, she is willing to share her body. Their chemistry is off the charts hot, but neither want to take it past a night. When Carter offers Regan a job in his office, things only seem to get worse. With sexual tension growing by leaps and bounds, Regan tries to keep her distance and focus on her long-term goals, but Carter continues to charge deeper into her life. As they each discover the other's secret pain, can they help heal some of the past hurts and move forward together? Carter and Regan will both learn that you can't control love, it really controls you.

I liked Regan well enough. She was funny, sweet, loyal, hardworking, and independent. I admired her inner strength, especially because she seemed to not realize how strong she truly was. The things she had to cope with from her mother were astounding, and her continued support and love showed her compassionate and loving nature. I absolutely fell in love, and hard, with Carter. I liked him in Jayne and Nick's book, but learning more about him, his personality, and dedication to his patients only had me swooning. Seriously, he had me crying a few times, and I thought I would have trouble getting past his player ways. For me, that wasn't even an issue. Him and Regan together was great! I loved the upgrade in sizzle in this book from the first one. It was in no way explicit, but it was steamy. Supporting cast was just as great as book one. I really want stories for Maya, Ellie, and Brett. They are a fantastic group of people. I only had a couple criticisms and/or complaints. First, to me the amount of snorts was excessive. I can understand the outright disbelief of several statements or situations, but I don't think a normal person would snort that much in derision or sarcasm. I also felt this way about book one, but it's nothing to ruin the story. Second, I did not understand the hostility between Regan and Ben, especially, but really everyone's problem with him. This wasn't really explained in enough detail for me, and the nasty comments just came out of nowhere. Other than that, I enjoyed this read very much, and greatly look forward to any books the author decides to pen about this small town going forward. <3

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!!!

I stayed up until 2 a.m. reading this book. It was that good. I'm incredibly impressed that this is Ms. Drewry's second book. Just like I was impressed with her first book, Plain Jayne. This author has a smooth style that's elegant and holds your attention. For an author with only a few books on her shelves, her writing style is right up there with all the best authors. Well done!

One of the first things to appeal to me in Prima Donna was the Han Solo quotes at the beginning of the chapters. Made me smile! And I can certainly see the way Han and Carter are alike. Both are scoundrels, but sweet...and cute...and hot. The geek in me loved this.

We met both Regan and Carter in the first book, and it was great that they got their chance to find happiness here. They both deserve some, for sure. When we begin, Regan is having a really bad day, after having a hard time for years. Her salon is now closed, she needs a paying gig to keep her mother in a medical facility, and it's just like the last straw when Carter walks in with his hair a total mess. She thinks it looks like he cut the locks with a knife and fork! It really offends her inner stylist. There's a scene later that explains his "cut" that will bring tears to your eyes.

Regan thinks she knows Carter...at least she knows that he's a player. But sometimes a player is really what one needs, right? Just a few minutes (or hours!) of heaven...because that's all it can be. And good golly it sure is. There's a kiss--just a kiss--that about melted my kindle. Wowza...

The flow of this story, as truths come to light, hearts are softened, friends are cherished, and a relationship blossoms, held me enthralled. It reads real. That takes talent, and I appreciated it very much.

One of the best things about this book, besides Carter, is the fact that there are several more women in Regan and Jayne's merry little band. We need to see them all get their HEAs. Soon, please?

By the way, Ms. Drewry is having a Facebook Party TODAY. Head over there to chat with her and win prizes: https://www.facebook.com/events/79728...

I really enjoyed this book, and I think the ultimate reason why is because the writing was just really enjoyable. I really like the way Laura writes, it's really just so easy to get wrapped up in the story and in the characters. I also really like that this book was so character driven, there isn't some extreme circumstance that pulls these people together or pushes them apart. These characters are living lives that I think anyone could identify with, and I think that's why it is so easy to like them both.

So when the book starts Regan is closing up her business, the business she was so proud of, and suddenly she is unemployed and in dire needs of a new job. The thing that I really related to about Regan was that she has these huge walls built around her, and when people ask her how she is doing she always responds with fine. I know so many people who do that. Heck, I have done that a million times before. Regan has some serious things on her plate, including a mother who is sick. I respect so much about Regan, she takes such good care of her mother, even though her mothers illness hurts her so much, I loved that she works hard to keep her in a good facility and not just let her go to a cheaper one. I think that says so much about her character.

So as for Carter, he is a pediatrician, and just a really good guy. The thing about this whole relationship between Regan and Carter is that neither of them are looking for a relationship. Carter carries with him a heavy past, one that haunts him. These two are just so easily pulled together, they have fantastic chemistry. I loved when Regan starts working with Carter and how the two of them basically dance around each other trying to fight the attraction. I also love how the two of them stand up for each other.

I thought this whole romance was just really great. I loved the build up between the two of them, the chemistry, the secondary characters, and really I just loved the charactered driven romance. I will be on the lookout for more of this authors work in the future, it was really a great read for me, and after writing this review, I changed my mind from four stars to five. I think anyone who likes romances should check out this book, it's really great.

If you were a transformer you'd be a hot-obot and your name would be Optimus Fine. Prima Donna by Laura Drewry
*ARC Provided for an Honest Review*
  "Sometimes, for no apparent reason,
biology and chemistry cause some kind of shit-storm inside a person.
It's no one's fault, it just happens."

This book is probably one of the best books I've read as of this month. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book when I started reading it but as I carried on the few chapters of the book, I started to love the hero. A big Well done to the author.

Carter and Regan have been acquainted during Regan's best friend, Jayne's, wedding. Both are really independent and loving Characters though sometimes fears eat them, they manage to be optimistic towards things. Both of them aren't into commitment and it was interesting how they overcome it.

Regan is too independent. She took care of her mom since she started puberty. She Lost her shop but still managed to put a great front. She applied for a new job, which the man she had slept once became her boss. Interesting. I wouldn't call Regan strong but at some parts in the book she was. She's moody and sometimes she doesn't think before speaks but given her experiences, its bearable.

Carter on the other hand is a softy. He loves kids and he is adorable with them. He has a different outlook towards life due to his experience but he is well and hot as fantasy doctors appear. He loves to make people happy, he's too generous and kind and hopeful and I love him. He's a package, except he cant bear his own fruit. But that doesn't really matter, as long as its a happy ending.

I have enjoyed it. I loved it. Totally worthy of my 5 star+ rating. It was worth my time and I am so thankful to the author for the ARC. And I hope i could read more from her soon.

Once again, Well done to the Author.

I really loved this book. I also now have a serious crush on Dr Carter Scott from the moment we meet him in the book I liked him and every interaction with him he just made me like him more.
We meet Regan at a low point in her life, one that has already been difficult for her, but even so Regan is a great sassy character that is quick with a witty comeback. Though we soon learn that this is her defence mechanism and part of the shield she hides behind. Regan has, she thinks, secrets that she doesn't want to share with her friends about her life and family that make her keep people at arms length, which some believe is because she thinks she is too good for them.
Carter is the cousin of her friend and steps in to help her out, along with a whole load of flirting. Carter too has had a difficult childhood for completely different reasons but he too doesn't do relationships. So Regan and Carter agree to stay friends due to a situation that would set Regan back.
And so starts a lovely friendship that is peppered with flirting from them both and has you as a reader wishing they would just say sod it and get together. Carter soon starts to learn more about Regan and her secrets and steps up to support her once more and in turn he reveals his own secrets. Oh when he takes Regan with him to meet someone special in his life you just want to climb in the book and hug him, it is gorgeous.
Regan soon starts to panic about her secret becoming known to her friends and starts to spiral off into flight mode. And I for one was shouting for Carter to get his butt in gear and step up to the plate but will he be in time to halt Regans plans???
I have to say as a Star Wars geek I also loved the Star Wars references in this story especially the chapters heading that tied in brilliantly with the book title. A great book and I hope there will be more from the charcters we have met in this story, I will certainly be keeping an eye out for more.

Regan Burke never let her friends know how she was truly feeling no matter what. She always put a brave face and a “I’m fine, really don’t worry about me.” She’s learned the hard way in life that if she wants something done, there is no one that she can depend on other than herself. While her true friends know that it’s all a farce, they didn’t intrude but others that don’t know her feel that she’s a Prima Donna with a holier than thou attitude. Little do those people know just how hard it is deal with some of the things that she’s dealing with though and why she doesn’t do boyfriends and why she acts the way does sometimes.

Carter Scott doesn’t do commitments because he has secrets that not everyone knows about. It’s easier to deal with bimbos that knows they are only there for one night rather than make a commitment to anyone or anything. That is until he runs into Regan again. There is something about her that leads him to believe that she may have just as many secrets as he does. He never dreamed that a one night stand with her would lead him to wanting more but it’s obvious from the beginning that one night is never going to be enough.

I would have given this book five stars if it weren’t for the first couple of chapters. I almost stopped reading it because, to me, the beginning was just boring but thankfully I trudged through and fell in love with both Regan and Carter. Regan has a snarky attitude that tries so hard to be tough but at times is barely holding it together and Carter, my god I loved him. The second haircut scene brought me to tears and Regan’s response afterwards did as well.

Special thanks to Random House Publishing for the ARC of this title.

☆ ARC received from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you SO MUCH lovely!! ☆

This book started from a 3.5 stars up to a 4 lovely warming stars.

This book was fresh, the story not that usual. But the more importantly it was very heartwarming.
The heartwarming came from maybe how dedicated the two main protagonists were fond of their work. But it was so kind of work related to people. They both gave some kind of happiness to the people.
Those two were so lovely because of how their love and care.

Beside the lovely cuddle thing, we got two characters quite likewise. A manwhore and a not too girly flower chick. Double one night stand, but not the female MO. She met and date but just didn't open up, unlike Carter who just living on each day. All those MO or personality came from several reasons which gave more understanding during the reading and also gave me more pleasure reading it because I didn't see where the story led or the purpose until I read more about their situation.
The friendship in this story was such lovely too, how true caring friends look out for each others and understand each other. So cool.

And I love how funny Carter's pick up line were just so bad but so funny.

One thing for sure, I totally dislike that Ben guy, I don't know where he came from but understand why people run off like plague.

Maybe I need to read book about Jayne to dislike him more. I didn't know I got a book about Jayne but I would give it a read soon.

Prima Donna is book two in the Friends First series and it was an incredibly enjoyable read. Regan is going through a lot of change since her salon is forced to close and money is now running tight. She has responsibilities and she carries that burden on her own. She learned from an early age to never rely on a man and she is resolute in that belief. So it made perfect sense for her to have a one-night-stand with Carter because he doesn’t believe in more than one night with someone either. Until he does... with her. I loved Regan because she was strong and independent. She threw herself at whatever challenge was presented and her humour was fun to read. Carter is a doctor who also learned at an early age how fleeting life can be. He lives each day as though it’s his last and refuses to commit himself to any future or lay down roots. In many ways Carter and Regan were very alike and they both unknowingly began to heal each other. Their chemistry was written so well and you could see them falling in love over the pages. None of it felt rushed and it left me feeling happy at the end. I would recommend to any Laura fans, or fans of well written stories laced with humour and great character development. A definite winner!

I really loved this! I will be adding this author to my short list of authors to read every new book of! It had me laughing out loud and made my heart hurt for a few minutes, def made me feel all hot and bothered but mostly it left me feeling happy. Regan and Carter were so amazing together and I really wish I would have read Nick and Jayne's story first but I will be going back for it, and now I want Ellie and Maya to find love. I also wouldn't mind knowing more about Katie and Ben( he's sort of a douche canoe). And if I didn't mention it before anything with Star Wars quotes is A+++ for me! especially when I get to picture Carter in Death Star boxers.

4 heartwarming stars

Prima Donna was such a lovely read, I really enjoyed it.

Both Reagan and Carter are likeable and fun characters, loved seeing them connect and fall in love.

I highly recommend Prima Donna to anyone who likes a sweet and emotional romance that will touch your heart and leave you full of happy feels.
Prima Donna can be read as a stand-alone, but I would recommend reading Plain Jayne first because Jayne and Nick show up a lot in Prima Donna.

Absolutely hysterical story. I loved all the characters just about in this story. Maybe, with the exception of Ellie and Maya, they had to kinda grow on me but they did. Ellie is a little rough around the edges but who knows the cop might tame her. Maya at first was harsh but grew on me when she met someone.
This story was interesting it was about secrets, lies, and love. Secrets we keep in order for people even friends and family not to see and feel our pain. Lies we will tell and go through in order to keep those secrets and situations hidden. Then, the loves that those things can affect in their wake.
Regan Burke had lived that way her whole life. Not knowing from one minute to the next if there would be food on the table, a roof over her head, or people who truly loved her. You see her mother has a mental illness and her father left her to deal with it at thirteen.
There was nothing she could do to save her mother. The only thing she could do is put her in a nice place one she got older. Which she did. The one she picked was the best around and costly. So, she opened a beauty salon where she styled hair. After 8 years, she was being forced to close her doors. The day before she was to relist the owner sold the building.
Her last night at the salon her friend Jayne had sent her cousin-in-law over to help her with any packing she may have before the final walk through the next day. Dr. Carter Scott pediatrician, cousin to Nick, who is husband to Jayne. Carter has a reputation for one night stands in his past that could make any guy as well as woman blush.
So, when Jayne finds out at their New Year’s Eve party that the two of them are flirting she is not happy at all. When she figures out they slept together she reams him about him being a player and how many women he has left in his wake. That if he hurts her, she Jayne, will hurt him.
The one big secret Carter is holding back is a big one. Not so sure one you can walk away from without many problems. I give this: 5++++ stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at: www.1rad-readerreviews.com.

This review was originally published on Sleepless Roamantics.

Rating: 3.5/5

I was totally not prepared for Prima Donna. I came in thinking that this was going to be a light, fluffy read perfect for the weekend. Also, the cover is all cute and happy looking. Obviously, I was fooled. Prima Donna isn’t super angsty or super dramatic, but it does deal with some heavy issues and for a book that has all that, I was smiling quite a bit while reading.

Regan has had a tough life, and like a lot of people who grew up faster than their actual age, she’s used to being independent and dealing with her own problems without any help. I like it when I read romance novels where I immediately just want the heroine to have all the good things in life. I guess that’s one of my preferences, and I guess it has a lot to say about where I am in life right now, but I’m really happy Prima Donna fits that bill. I thought Regan was great. Sure, she could’ve been more personable, but the woman has her own problems to deal with, she doesn’t really owe the world good attitude right? And look at all the people who see through that, she loves them loyally and they appreciate her for it. You go, Regan.

And I think it was apt that she was paired with Carter. From his first introduction, Carter totally shows you his playful, charming side and doesn’t even make you wonder if he has any mysterious pasts or whatever. Which is understandable, since not all of us have intense back stories, but I thought he’d be the foil to Regan’s character. Nope, Carter was so much deeper than that and I thought it was great that neither his nor Regan’s pasts competed with each other in the plot. It totally showed the whole saying about accepting other people’s baggage and helping them carry it if you want a relationship with them stance. (Is this from How I Met Your Mother?) And I thought that was great. Also, who can resist a guy who can utter the most ridiculous pick up lines and make them seem charming and funny?

Not gonna lie though, I hated how judgey people were towards Regan and Carter and their relationship. But did I mind it as a form of conflict? Not at all because I totally understood why the other characters thought that way… it would’ve just been nicer if they had the same perspective as I did while I was reading, I guess.

And I teared up a bit. Regan and Carter were dealing with some things that is kind of impossible to change, and I thought they were written well. This book could’ve gone off the deep end of angst and it’ll still be totally understandable, but I’m kind of glad it didn’t. Carter was absolutely hilarious and I loved those interactions with the children. It just warmed my heart. (Is St. Mark’s supposed to be St. Paul’s hospital?? This is why I should never read books set in familiar places, I get too sidetracked.)

Overall, I thought Prima Donna was a wonderful, emotional read, perfect for a Sunday. Laura Drewry successfully captured my attention with well-written characters. If you’re a fan of books heavy on the characterization, with conflicts relying heavily on whether the main couple will get together or not based on their pasts, I highly suggest Prima Donna.

I have to be honest and put some shame on my self. Prima Donna was my first novel by Laura Drewry and I've realized that I've been missing out dearly. Thank god for my friend introducing me to NetGalley where I immediately received an ecopy of Prima Donna.
I'm a complete addict when it comes to romance. I love romance, I want romance, I need romance. It's the air I need on a daily basis.
This novel has fulfilled my needs with just 316 pages. Even the cover did it for me. It is so beautiful and now that I've finished Prima Donna, I can totally see the love shining through the girls smile.

At first, I wasn't so sure about this novel; I'm usually always unsure when I pick up a novel from an author that I've never read from. Sometimes I end with my hands in trash, but with Drewry's Prima Donna I sure didn't. It took me a while to really get into the story but once I did I couldn't put it down.

From the emotional pasts and still present issues of the main characters, all the way to the connection they had with each other, I constantly had goosebumps. The way they both were oblivious to their feelings was adorable. It isn't always like this, in some stories I just want to run head first into a wall. Regan and Carter both are complicated and live complicated lives. Little do they know that it could all get better if they just act on their hormones. Literally.

Both characters had strong personalities and a lot of love to give - but neither knew where to put it. While Regan was dedicated to help her mom out with everything she had, Carter had his own way of dedication by being supportive and strong for his little patients at the hospital. Regan and Carter always put their loved ones before themselves. From the moment I met them in Regan's salon, I knew there was something special and beautiful going to happen.

Nonetheless of what we observe as the reader, these two were stupid and oblivious in their own little bubble they created. They won't let anyone in, but not everything can be controlled. Not soon after Carter's haircut did the first bubble burst. It all started with one "God-awful" haircut that needed to be fixed to another haircut that was much worse. Regan doesn't judge a book by it's cover once she knows the story behind his dishelved hair and she starts to love it even with her fingers starting to itch towards the scissors.

What Regan and Carter have is a beautiful thing, that Laura Drewry presented in the best way possible. I fell in love not just with the characters, but their entire lives, and their friends. Also I fell in love with Drewry's writing style. I already got a couple of her books since I finished Prima Donna. She knows what she's doing, and believe me when I say - YOU need to go out and get yourself a copy and enjoy it while you can.

Regan is a solid, stand up character: hard-working, determined, smart and a bit stubborn she has not had an easy life, but rather than bemoan that fact, she moves forward tackling obstacles one at a time. Her salon is her dream, and things are going well until the landlord puts the building up for sale and her shop in jeopardy. With bills to pay and the added burden of her mother’s medical expenses, she is scrambling for options.

Carter is a pediatrician, in love with his motorcycle and his freedom has a playboy reputation and isn’t interested in Mrs. Right. Wonderful with his patients, Carter really is one of those guys that you just know is going to be special and wonderful, despite his unwillingness to settle in a relationship.

Carter and Regan have mutual friends in Jayne and Nick, and this allows them a ‘friendly’ connection even though both have desires for more. They are reluctant to test the boundaries because of their friends, but when sparks really fly on New Year’s these two start to come together. But their opening up and solidifying their relationship is hampered by a few issues. Carter has opened a new medical office, and has hired Regan as the receptionist. That could be tricky from a boss/ employee perspective, but he’s not letting her off that easily. Neither one of them is particularly open or good at sharing their feelings and fears, but their burgeoning friendship is starting to show that they can trust in one another.

Surprisingly, it really is Carter who opens up and lays his secrets at Regan’ s feet, not allowing her to turn away or ignore the realization that they have something special. Sweet and engaging, this story just motors along without great moments of conflict or angst, but clearly delineating the growth of their connection in a way that felt logical, natural and not too rushed.
Drewry has created a lovely story: satisfying and solidly honest with insets of humor and Star Wars references that add a lighthearted feel.

I received an eArc copy from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I have a new book boyfriend. And his name is Carter Scott.
This book made me laugh, swoon and even made my heart melt a few times. The plot is very simple, with no particular angst or tension that will make you hold your breath, but I think this is what made me love the book so much: because the story feels real, and it's something anyone could relate to. There's no need for sharp plot twists, awful events or angsty moments to keep the reader reading on. You'll simply want to know what happens next and if the two characters will get their HEA.
Regan is a fantastic heroine. I loved her from the very first chapter. I loved her interaction with Carter and all her witty remarks whenever he said one of his bad pick-up lines.
I so loved Carter’s lines! He was so funny. Womanizers and players are not my favourite kind of heroes. But Carter… aww, Carter. He’s a player, yes, but the reasons why he’s doing it make up for his behaviour. I loved him when he with his patients, the way he managed to let them see him more like a friend than a doctor.
There are some great side characters too, that make the story so much more fun.
I could go on and on telling you how much I loved this book, but it would become a veeeery long review and it wouldn't do it justice anyway. So I’ll simply say: don’t waste another minute and buy this book now!

I received an ecopy of this book through netgalley!!

OK, I was in love in the first few pages. My husband asked me why, and it was ALL about the characters. How could you not love Regan and Carter? Seriously, from page 1 to the end, I laughed, I cried, I smiled like a loon, my heart hurt....it was great. I LOVE those books where you finish with a big stupid grin on your face.

I actually think I even loved this one more than Plain Jayne. I didn't reread that one before starting this one, and that's actually killing my inner self, even though they can be read completely alone. It's just that BOTH MC's were da bomb. I mean, Regan was sassy and strong, yet vulnerable and somewhat damaged. And Carter....well, I did not expect his back story, but I was already in love with his rakish self from Plain Jayne. This book just solidified it and showed me who he was deep inside. And the chemistry was FANTASTIC. Seriously, holy wow.

And even with all the conflicts and obstacles they had to make it through, it never felt drawn out or unnecessary to their story you know? And I loved the way it ended. It had the perfect resolution for the characters that stayed true to who they were.

So yeah....my being Canadian did NOT influence me in this book, though it's always fun to recognize things in a book based in my country. This was just a straight up fabulous romance with genuinely awesome characters. Can't wait for more from Ms. Drewry.
