I received this book free from First Reads in exchange for a honest review.

This was a quick little read I enjoyed during my lunch hour. The book is a combination of poems and short stories.

Overall, the book held a somewhat dark tone, which I enjoyed highly. My favorite parts of this book were the short stories.

A few of them seemed like glimpses into a strange world that left me wanting more of the details of the characters in order to get more perspective. "3 AM" for instance. I feel like I needed a little more information to "get it".

A few of the stories gave me high hopes and expectations from this author. I felt "Two Bullets" could be expanded upon. I really liked it, and it left me wanting to know more about this mysterious couple.

In "The Invitation" the story of the two girls and the "school" they end up at really piqued my interest and really left me wanting to hear more of that story, also.

I'm not a huge fan of some of the poems, but found I really loved "Morning Surprise". I giggled at "Priscilla at the Bookstore" and feel there is a funny story behind that one, lol.

Overall, a great little read with some true gems and flashes of outstanding talent.
