I read this books years and years ago online and couldn't believe that I could find it for free! I've always loved romance novels and always loved Paul McCartney, so having these two things combined with such beautiful writing and such an engaging story was like crack. I'm so so happy that I rediscovered it and highly recommend it to any Paul McCartney fan.

god, what a gut punch of a novel-length fic! I think this is the first time I actually add a fic here on GR lmao, but I simply can't help myself because this was such a joy to read as a massive Beatles fan! when I tell you I was floored to see that this is from the mid '90s and it was written by the lovely Diane when she was in her 60s was truly insane to me, as a 2000 baby, because it felt like such a breath of fresh air to me in here in late 2021.
now, it is obviously not a perfect story top-to-bottom... do I care? no, I adored it. and that “About the Author” section at the end of the website was brutal to read after the HEA ending (yes, I read this on her ALS website because I found it on a Beatles fic directory which classified this as a “classic”; sue me!).
at times charming, sad, funny, gripping and wonderful, while also having such a three-dimensional and complicated MC to have as a connective thread, this is everything you could expect from a fic written by a 1960s Beatlemania veteran! such harmless fun to be had with this one. will be carrying this one close to my heart <3
(as a John girl reading that “About the Author” section was, no joke, truly heartbreaking. made me love Diane and her writing even more!).

This fic has been special to me since I first read it in 2003. It not only reminds me of my time in the Beatles fandom online, but also is a warm tribute to any fan who's come of age and found themselves through music, movies, and pop culture. Tess is probably the greatest Mary-Sue of all time! As she memorably tells Paul McCartney, fandom is a way to "practice being in love." And in that way, this story is sort of magical. It's a believable, detailed window into 1960s life, but it's also an angsty, fun, spellbinding romance with great characterizations. Beatles feels truly are timeless feels.

The best Beatles fan fiction I have ever read. Scratch that, the best fan fiction I have ever read. I read this book twice a year and never get tired of it. If you are a huge Beatles fan, especially a Paul McCartney fan I recommend you read this story!

I read this years ago online after finding Diane on a Beatles chat board...at least I think that's where we met. I know I met her in person aftewards at Beatlefest in Chicago, ca. 1996.
As a lifelong Beatles fan, and one who wrote her own fan fiction before it was called that back in the early 60's, I absolutely loved this book. Love Diane's sense of humor, the way she captured what we think is probably each Beatles' personality. I don't remember that it was so sexually explicit though! So beware!
I just ordered the print version...wow, 574 pages!...and will stir up those memories once again of a simpler time, an absolutely wonderful time I am so glad to have experienced firsthand.
Reread for the 3rd time, finished July 7, 2026. I didn't remember the overabundance of explicit sex which covered a large part of the middle 300 pages. But I still loved the ending, though it ended abruptly when I wanted more.

I first read this in 2003 online and have probably read it at least 10 times since then. As a big Beatles fan, I truly excellent Beatles fan fiction is difficult to find and in the height of my fan fiction days, this book took the cake. I don't read fan fiction anymore, but I do occasionally re-read this one. Diane Huberty makes relatable and realistic characters and tells a compelling story of love and loss. The story feels real and captivating and is devoid of any real cliches that you get in this sort of genre. If you are a fan of the Beatles, this is a fun and compelling story to read.
