Secrets are dangerous, nobody knows that more than Maia. But when the secrets held involve decades old family drama… she’ll learn that blood may not be thicker than water.
One moment Maia Blake is a grieving fiancée, the next she’s got a plus sign on a pregnancy test. But just when she wraps her head around her new future, she uncovers something her fiancé, Ryan, hid from her.
He was a werewolf, and their newborn daughter is one too.
But that’s just the beginning of the chaos Maia finds herself in as she learns about the werewolf world. Maia finds herself the object of desire for four identical Alpha werewolves, each more possessive and growly than the last. Bound by destiny, they’re all fated to be hers.
As Maia navigates her new reality, she’s drawn into a dangerous web of pack rivalries and family secrets. But the biggest threat is Ryan’s family and their desire for full custody. They doubt her ability to care for Phoebe since Maia is human.
But Maia’s hiding a big secret of her own, that nobody—not even her new mates—can know about. She’s not just human, she’s also clairvoyant. Or at least, how else would she keep seeing the ghost of her dead fiancé?
Torn between her new mates, the safety of her child, and the lingering pain of the past, Maia stands at a crossroads. Can she trust her new mates, protect her daughter, and uncover the truth behind Ryan's death? Or will her revelations be the spark that reignites ancient feuds, plunging the packs into chaos once more?
Baby’s First Howl is the first instalment in the First Shift duet. This series is a medium-burn reverse harem romance, and there is a guaranteed HEA for our FMC at the end of the second book.

**ARC REVIEWER** *possible spoiler* mention of tropes and group dynamics
I rated this book 2.5 rounded to 2⭐️
I would like to read the next in this series as I am intrigued and usually enjoy the authors style of writing.
I am disappointed in this rating as when I added this book to my currently reading on Goodreads I went and checked the authors backlist and realised I had read a series by them before and really enjoyed it. I hoped I would have the same reaction to this book as I did to that series. When I finished this book there were also only 5 star ratings and I thought maybe I was missing something. Overall I hope to be in the minority with such a low rating but I’m going to hopefully adequately explain why I felt what I felt to make other readers understand.
Characters I enjoyed the characters but I felt like there were too many as for every shifter character there was a human and a wolf aspect to them and each had separate names and personalities. This was hard to grasp at the start but by the end of the book I had my head around it. Plot I REALLY enjoyed the start of this book and I enjoyed the end of this book but I really struggled with the middle. Personally, I felt as though there were some forced plot twists and the dynamic of the book was thrown off each time. There were twists, on twists, on twists. This on occasion felt overdone. Although, the twists were often minor it was largely inconvenient to the plot and the pacing of the book. I also felt as though sometimes characters were portrayed in a light that didn’t accurately depict them and this was infuriating. Another issue I personally had with this book was that it sometimes felt repetitive. I think falls under the same box as the plot twists as sometimes those felt forced due to the fact they felt repeated. There was a point in the book where I felt like I was constantly going round in circles and everything felt so familiar but not in an enjoyable way. This is what in the end really dropped my rating as I wanted to dnf the book as these points and I am not someone who ever dnf’s books. This may have been where everyone else maintained their 5 star as if I enjoyed the 30% in the middle I would have given this a 5 star for sure.
If there are any parts of this review you think are wrong please feel free to leave a comment. If there are any grammar or spelling mistakes please let me know. If you have any general questions about the book I am happy to answer.
Please remember these are just my opinions and are completely subjective. Happy reading ❤️
Very long book even with skipping pages. This book has a lot of over shared experiences about new born babies. I went with it for a while but clearly the heroine is hormonal, a lot.
I honestly stopped caring and was looking for a solid plot, not the heroine getting herself into a tizzy. The bits I didn't like were the heroine, who is supposedly very intelligent not understanding that werewolves are not human!!! If she cared so much for her daughter she wouldn't have kept freaking out.
Only a fool would think one of the very things that make these werewolves who they are, are not important. As if poison can't be weaponised because clever clogs here thinks humans are not capable of such things. Just because she is one.... DNF at about 70%
Dnf for me. They were ridiculous in not giving her any choice e about moving in with them even though half of them hated her. I didn’t like the men anyway so I just stopped reading.
Buckle up because this is a LONG book but holy fvcking fanny flutter was it good?! (Thank you Letty for one of my new favorite phrases by the way.) This review probably has some spoilers because the book is just so involved that I can’t do it justice without giving a little away.
Our FMC, Maia, gets the shock of her life when her brand new baby suddenly turns into a wolf and she’s faced with a whole new world she never knew existed. It turns out that her fiancé, Ryan, was a werewolf and never mentioned it before his untimely death- which was right before Maia found out she was pregnant.
Suddenly thrust into this new world Maia also find out that she is the fated mate to four shocking good looking, virgin, quadruplet, brothers…. who just so happen to be cousins to her late fiancé. Together they navigate what the new normal will look like for them while also trying to get to the bottom of some pretty series family secrets. By the way, is anyone actually dead around here?
Baby’s First Howl had a ton of drama and a great amount of spice. I’ll be honest and say I really didn’t like Maia’s mates at first. They seemed really out of touch with the reality of having a mate because they end up being very “me Tarzan, you Jane” and forcing her to live with them, though I will say I pretty much loved Seb/Kane the whole time. The wolf aspect is very different in this book with how the man and the wolf are truly separate beings/consciousness and even have separate names. I didn’t necessarily mind this but it felt like it was very overwhelming for Maia to not just get used to four new men but really eight.
I will say that as a mother of an infant, I felt so very seen while reading this book. The struggles of being postpartum, breastfeeding, etc was just so on point and I connected with Maia in a way I haven’t connected with an FMC in a long time.
I will warn you that there is a h3ll of a cliffhanger at the end of this book, like I really feel like the author kicked me out of an airplane with no parachute and I managed to grab the cliff on my way down. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book is such a journey. It takes Maia, and the readers, from the normal human world into the world of shifters, quickly having to learn the rules of her and her daughter's new life, their customs and grt to know the men that are claiming she is their mate.
The world is quickly expanding, and as typical of the author there are so many twists and turns and surprises, you are quickly hooked to see where this is going to go.
But my favorite part was seeing the relationships build, see how much each of the guys grew as people and partners to meet her both in her grief, and as her new partners. And baby Phoebe is just the cutest of course.
Can't wait for book two and to see where their story will go.
Holy freakin’ twins, triplets and quadruplets Batman! This reads like a tv soap opera in the best way because the drama is top tier and there’s always a random twin/triplet popping out of nowhere 😂
I really enjoyed reading this. I loved that every time I thought something was going to happen or go a certain way, there was a twist to counteract my thoughts!
There are a lot of characters in this book but they’re quite distinguishable, thankfully. It took some time for Topher and Ben to grow on me. Topher being the asshole and Ben who has a childlike mind at times though he’s incredibly smart. I’m not sure if he’s supposed to be on the spectrum (I got those vibes later in the book, so he didn’t come across childlike to me anymore, just someone who is showing certain traits but I could 100% be wrong and his character is supposed to be childlike since he’s the runt!)
I liked Alex and Seb a lot, Seb and his wolf Kane being my favorites. Maia is… complicated for me. Where I understand all her hesitations, the quick to think the worst and being a scared human in the werewolf world. She spent an awful lot of time being a hypocrite, sneering and crying when things didn’t go the way she wanted. She broke the guys trust just as much as they her, yet it was glanced over and they forgave so quickly to where she held onto their misdeeds and used it against them every chance she got. She was incredibly wishy washy and it made it hard to really like her fully. She has her strengths and is a fantastic mother for trying to navigate this world don’t get me wrong but I spent a good portion of this book annoyed and rolling my eyes at her dramatics.
The plot is intriguing and kept my attention the whole time, even if we went around in circles a few times with secrets or Maia not liking something and pouting/running away to her room, especially once I started realizing that things weren’t as they seemed. What was Ryan’s true plan? Was he using Maia even though he loved her? How involved were her parents before their deaths? WHO IS ACTUALLY DEAD AROUND HERE? 😂 I’m dying for the conclusion because that cliffhanger was incredible!
This is a mess. I'm not sure what's happening here. She's had a baby 5 days ago. The baby turns into a wolf pup unexpectedly. She calls the cops thinking someone stole her baby and left a puppy? Then she's hauled off to meet the alpha and luna of the pack but the 2 "cops" that show up. Their 4 sons claim her as a mate immediately. She's seeing her dead fiance, or thinks she is because no one has explained multiple wolf births to her. At least, that's what I'm assuming because I only made it 20% before throwing in the towel and she's lying saying no one is there when the guys smell another wolf. Then 1 guy is a complete jerk while his wolf is a maniacally obsessed stalker. Brother 2 is just a cardboard cutout, wolf unknown. Brother 3 is sweetheart and so is wolf but doesn't stand up to jerk or cardboard brothers. Brother 4 is... different. I can't tell if he's stuck in a Little mindset or he's suffered some kind of childhood trauma that keeps him trapped in that mindset. Either way not a good headspace to be a mate and father to her and her kid. In fact it's more than a little off putting him acting like an overgrown 5yo but horny. And then the revelation of who her dead fiance was was the straw that broke this reader. Nope. No, wait, it was the mention of wolves making a motion to push 16yo female wolves into having pups, force mating them to (gag) virile members of the pack to force them to breed. Reducing them to the function of a single bodily system vs respecting their autonomy as a whole person. That was the final straw. Done. Looked back at the author and realized that this was the same as the horrible Luna series I barely made it through the 1st book of. By the end of the book, within the span of maybe a week, she'd met and collected like 7, maybe 8?, mates. Basically every guy wanted her perfect Mary Sue person. It was...ugh.
I got tricked by a few BookTok vids into borrowing this on KU. My recommendation is don't bother. This is LONG! 650 pages of your life you won't get back. And in my opinion, not worth it. ***Spoilers***
But, if you are still down to try, grab yourself a pen and notebook because it will be easier to keep track by taking notes! I will give you a hint to the way mine looks: You got your MFC Maia. She's new to town and very pregnant when she arrives. Also grieving the loss of her fiance Ryan. By all accounts an amazing boyfriend she had for over 3 years. Before he was hit and run, repeatedly ran over btw, just a month into her pregnancy. She has her adorable babygirl Phoebe and is maintaining on her own, until one evening when she goes to her babys crib to discover not her sweet little baby, but a cute little baby wolf. From here things get nutty. And soon lead her to a (twisted) Luna and her (however many) mates. Which lead to that Lunas sons, Quadruplets: Christopher aka Topher or Toph and his inner wolf Orion Alexander aka Alex and his inner wolf Max Sebastian aka Seb and his inner wolf Kane Benjamin aka Ben and his inner wolf Fluffy aka Fluff Yes, you read that all right. Then later, after a long time of thinking Ryan was a twin with Ethan, we also discover last minute that he was actually a triplet that includes Oliver. All of these groups are completely identical to each other, unable to change even the slightest things, like hair length or color. Magic, or whatever, makes them unable to look different from each other in any way. Everyone in this series is a twin, triplet, or quadlet except Maia and Phoebe. The names alone are a mess, but then you have to get through all the inner dialogue from the men and their wolves, going on and on and on! Which explains why its so long, but also because the author describes every outfit worn by every character, in detail! Now, I will admit, some of the dialogue is funny. And very offensive at times. And though Maia is supposed to be their ultimate everything, lots of times its about where they can stick what. Because of course, all the men are v-card carriers, waiting only for their destined mates. But here's an example: on one page Topher will be in a conversation with Maia and ask her a question. But it will be anywhere from 3 to 6 pages before we get her reply because he will spend all those pages on a conversation with his inner werewolf Orion. By the time he gets back to the question he asked Maia, the previous stuff with her has practically been forgotten. It's insane. Reading this book is like having MPD and none of the voices take turns! They are all vying to be talking all at once. And all very needy of attention. Then there's the spice and hormones. Because of all the inner dialogue we are talking 2 or more full chapters just to read over one intimate scene. Ridiculous. An intimate scene near the end spans almost 3 chapters! More than once in this book I just started skimming. It all felt never ending. Why I didn't DNF this I can not say. At a certain point I decided not to relent. (Also, I had nothing planned for after this and haven't been able to figure out what type of book I'm in the mood for nor did I want to search for a new book.)
The ending is a cliffhanger, which does irk me off because I do not want to read the next book! Not that I even can right now, because it's not due to release until March 27, 2025! So yeah. Do as you will, but you have been WARNED!
The book gripped me from the beginning and I couldn’t stop … but I had to especially being a big book which I absolutely loved ! And love there is another on the way ! I don’t know who I like more Seb the quiet one or Ben with the unfiltered mouth ! But they all have their different qualities that makes them all fit just nicely together, but Ben is a hoot ! The book takes you on a journey with motherhood, grief, love and living and with all the mystery and secrets this makes a hell of a great read, I really can’t wait until the next book !
This was so good I could not put it down. I loved Ben and Fluffy. So many secrets were uncovered and so many questions remain. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
I'm gonna say that even with my complex feelings about Maia I liked her overall. I mean she did irritate me at times but she was far from the only one. I loved what a good mother she was. She got thrown into an entirely new world but her primary concern was being a champion for her daughter and that deserves some recognition.
You know what else comes from this new world? Four smoking hot werewolf mates. She's mated to quadruplets! That right, one, two, three, four, there are four identical hot AF werewolves for Maia. The trippier part is that every werewolf has a human personality and a separate wolf personality, that's eight personalities Maia has to deal with and that's not including her baby. Gods help her.
But seriously, I love the wolves' personalities maybe even better than their human counterparts but the humans are great too. Alex has been the steady one in this group and with all these personalities it was greatly needed. It took some time for me to like Topher, he was very much the jerk at the beginning of this but turned into a sweetie. Ben is complex and not for everybody. He's very playful but at times can be annoying, but he shocked me the most by going from playful puppy to full-on savage as the story continues. His words were sharp AF. I saved the best for last. While I love all the Wolfe brothers Seb is my favorite. He's a bit of a psychopath but he's my psychopath. He's freaking adorable. Plus all of them are great with Maia's baby, which is heartwarming.
As for the plot, this book was dramatic AF! There's family drama and then there's dumpster fire, let the world burn type of family drama. This story has more of the latter than the former. The Wolfe/Grey clan is next-level toxic, there are some dark plots going on, manipulation, abuse, and a slew of other stuff. There was a fair amount of mystery mixed in. Every time I started piecing bits of clues together Letty just throws in another bomb of a plot twist that leaves me flabbergasted. These plot twists were some whoppers, they took the drama level from a seven to a thirteen out of ten. Yeah, it was great.
Oh, Baby's First Howl was intense but awesome but WTF was that ending? Holy cow, I might blacked out during it. This book was filled with secrets so deep and twisted, it's kinda jaw-dropping. By the end, plenty got revealed but there's still a lot of stuff that hasn't been touched upon. I can't to see how everything plays out in the final book of the duology.
✨Received an ARC in exchange for an HONEST review✨
Rating: 3.5 stars Male Characters in harem: Topher, Ben, Alex, Seb Female Character: Maia
Thoughts: I liked this book. The plot was definitely unique and interesting. It was quite different from other werewolf books.
Things I liked: - Ok, this might seem weird but I love how the author details when it’s feeding time for Maia’s daughter. It just adds to the uniqueness of the story. It definitely was something new for me in reading and I loved reading these details.
-I love how the author details Phoebes growth. She’s so cuttte!
-Her mates definitely made me laugh a lot. They were so cute at times and sometimes they were so funny.
-Her mates have unique personalities.
-I lOVED LOVED how her mates cared for her and also for Phoebe!
Things I disliked: -In the first half of the book, I didn’t like how Maia would start crying when things got a little heated. Yes I know it was tears of frustration but I felt like she cried too much. I personally like a strong heroine and I felt as if I didn’t relate to Maia as much.
-I know it is Ben’s personality but sometimes he would say things to Maia that are just plain rude. I get that his personality is like that and he’s kind of clueless to social norms and cues and there’s no maliciousness when he says it but sometimes I would rlly get offended.
- For me personally, when I pick up a book, regardless of genre I prefer the characters to have unique names. These characters had basic everyday names.
-Some chapters just felt very excessive and too detailed, I felt like the book would still be good without those chapters.
-Going off the previous point the book did feel very slow at certain points.
P.S: I know this review is posted after the book has been published. I do apologize for that as I am a slow reader 😅.
Overall I did enjoy the book and can’t wait for the next one!
I am having heart palpitations right now! What is going on? I received and ARC for this book and I read it not knowing it was going to be book 1 in a duet. I absolutely detest reading an unfinished series because I NEED to consume the complete story so that was my bad. But to have been left on that cliffhanger!! OMG 😱 I am having such a strong emotional breakdown over it. I have so many questions and scenarios playing in my head currently. It’s been over a week since I finished this book and I still lay in bed at night wondering and worrying about how this next book is gonna play out. There are a lot of characters at play here and even more mysterious situations than you can imagine. Half the time I’m not sure who to trust or believe. But I’m telling you right now if this whole lil found family of fated mates doesn’t stay together forever and ever…I’m gonna need a padded room! There is betrayal, heartbreak, mystery, found family, new love, insta love, shifters, non shifters, so many K I N K S I can’t even name them all. Each brother aka mate offers our girl something different and needed. I feel like our FMC is more…more than a regular human possibly…I dunno. Oh I just need Letty to hurry up and write book 2 because I can NOT wait until next year. This book pulled such strong emotions from me and I need to find out how it ends asap! I got nerves! Anxiety soaring high and I’m losing sleep! The ending threw me so far off I tossed my kindle in a rage. Send help …. And book 2 post haste! I rate it a 4 star only because I have had 8642 mini panic attacks from the ending and cliffhanger and need resolution. Can I call the author? Can we chat about this? Would that be weird? I dunno I need to discuss this further asap.
This was a good start to The First Shift duet and she's a thiccc one too!! The beginning had me immediately interested. I love the idea of a single mother making it on her own and also loved how the author made motherhood for Maia so real. The feeling of inadequacy about being a good mom, the leaking breast milk and cluster feeding, the late nights, the exhaustion. It was nice to see those aspects not glanced over once the guys were introduced.
Onto the guys. I'll be honest and say I only liked one of them in the beginning. Seb is such a quiet, protective sweetie. I think he will always remain my #1. The initial meeting between Maia and the Wolfe brothers wasn't an adorable meet cute, love at first sight kind of thing. It may take you a bit to warm up to some of them because their first impressions were not the best. At the end of this book, I still really don't care for Ben. Maybe he will grow on me but as of right now, I'm not a huge fan.
Now I will say that the story did feel like it slowed down a bit when Maia and the guys were still getting to know each other but it did pick up (at least for me) shortly after the 50% mark. That's where it started getting juicier with the storyline and the relationships. From that point on it was so good! It literally made me feel like I was watching a soap opera with all of the different twists upon twists that the author kept throwing at us. She wove a really great web of confusion, secrets, and betrayals. It really kept you wondering what was really going on behind the scenes, who was correct in their information, who was lying, and who could be trusted. The cliffhanger just really reinforced that feeling and has me excited to see how what happened will affect Maia and her future.
I absolutely loved this book and can’t recommend it enough. The characters are fantastic, but it was the FMC who truly resonated with me. As a new mom myself, with a baby just two months old, I deeply related to so many of her thoughts and struggles—the constant questioning of whether you’re good enough, whether you’re providing what your little one deserves. It meant so much to me to see that real emotional weight woven into a paranormal romance, and Letty Frame did an incredible job capturing those raw, honest feelings.
Letty is here with a brand-new series, and she knocked it out of the park. Once I opened this book, I literally couldn’t put it down. It’s a fast-paced, slow-to-medium burn, packed with emotional depth, healing, and growth. The characters are layered, their trauma is palpable, and their journeys are messy, beautiful, and real.
Maia is a widowed, brand-new mom to a one-week-old baby when—surprise—she suddenly shifts into a wolf. What does she do? Calls the cops, of course. This unexpected shift pulls her straight into the hidden world of shifters—and to her mates. But instead of a simple fated-mates, insta-love story, what Maia faces is grief, pack politics, and the heavy weight of starting over. The love that’s supposed to heal everything? It’s complicated, it’s messy, and it tests them all in ways they never expected.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster—one that had me completely hooked, heart aching one minute and melting the next thanks to the adorable newborn moments scattered throughout.
Be warned: this is just Book 1, and yes—it ends on a cliffhanger that’ll have you desperate for Book 2. And trust me—I cannot wait to dive back in.
The only reason I am giving g this four stars is due to the first three chapters being so snap snap and bland. That is the only reason. Once you get through the rough beginning the book is fantastic...until that cliffhanger. Horrible cliffhanger. I may have physically shown a reaction with some pleasant words due to the ending.
The charcters: wonderful well thought and interesting. I found it was a bit muddy on who was who in the beginning but that cleared up quickly. The FMC is amazing, she is sweet, good, and strong. I do believe there is alot more twists for future books.
The plot: twisty. Shocking and steamy...what a strange three word description but once you read this it is a perfect picture to the page turning.
World building is alittle hard, it doesn't really show the world much more family dynamics. For this book it works but as a worldly view it doesn't really hit or need it.
The spice: oh let there be kinks and steam. I actually love the differences between the guys and how the FMC shows her love to each of them in her own way.
Overall, I recommend this book. I loved the story. I honestly didn't know if I was going to complete it in the first few chapters but then it just got deeper and more interesting. I thought the author did a great job at drawing you in emotionally and rooting for all the main charcters. With humor, mystery, and a baby this book was unique and worth my time.
Now the hard part waiting for book two....
This was an ARC read. I was not offered money or coerced to leave this review. Everything in this review is my own opinion and feelings
I will be honest and say that it took me a few chapters to really get into this book but once things started progressing I couldn’t put it down! I have read most of this author’s work and I think Baby’s First Howl has moved to my favorite book by them. At first I did find it difficult to wrap my head around each of the MMC’s having their wolf be a separate being in their head with their own thoughts and even their own name, but the way that it is written it is easy to discern what thoughts/feelings belonged to the human and which belonged to the wolf.
I loved the mystery aspect to the story. For me this is one of the main things that held my attention through out the story. There were quite a few twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. This is a long book, but for me that is one of the things I loved about it. I think the length is needed for the story to come together since there is so much that is happening and so many characters to figure in.
Absolutely fell in love with Seb, he is by far my favorite MMC in the harem. There is just something about the quiet ones who only care for their girl. And not to forget the OTT possessiveness he has *chef’s kiss* I did like the other three MMC’s. Even though they are identical in looks all of them have their own personalities that make them all different from one another. There were some parts (really 90% of the book) where I loved Maia and there were also some where she just annoyed me to the point that I wanted to shake some sense into her.
I cannot wait for the next book!! I need answers on so many things!
100% into this book. Desperately wanted to know what was going on, so at 1:17am I finally finish it … only to realize that it’s a duet and that the 2nd book hasn’t even been written yet 😭😭😭😭😭😭
The story and plots are unique. It’s not predictable, which is refreshing when you read 350+ books a year and find that most are basically the same when it comes down to it. The multiple plots did get confusing and convoluted. There’s ALOT going on, but it’s been done pretty well and I am intrigued to see what’s going to happen.
I will say that I’ve never seen “sneer” or “sneering uses so much in a book and it’s annoying me a lot. I don’t think it’s the correct word the author was looking for either based on the situation. If it is the correct word, then the mates, but Ben in particular, are just a/holes and I don’t like them very much. Regardless of the correct word, Ben just isn’t my favourite at all. He is either a giant a/hole or he is mentally challenged. The FMC lets him get away with far too much. He’s rude, abrasive, insulting and just immature. Not liking him at all.
I’m disappointed that there’s no 2nd book to continue reading straight away. As much as I enjoyed reading this book, it was long and complicated and I can’t say that I’m going to rush back to read it when the 2nd book comes out. I will eventually read the 2nd book, but right now the thought of reading this book again exhausts me, just because of the length of the book and the amount of storylines going on.
I enjoyed this different take on shifters and mating. This book is about Maia and her newborn Phoebe. The father died early into the pregnancy without revealing his werewolf blood. Maia is left mystified when her bundle of baby shifts into a bundle of wolf cub for the first time. This is how she meets her true fated mates, quadruplets, Ben, Topher, Alex and Seb. These three are instantly fully on board with their new human mate and her baby, attempting to win her love.
So the points I loved....
* Realistic portrayal of breastfeeding... Phoebe feeds all the time... accurate! * Multiples and mating. Not read this take on mating bonds before * Maia takes the bond at her own pace and takes control of the first half of the bonding process * Loved how each of the quads had his own kink. Sadly not fully explored yet though
Things I didn't love so much
* This is a long and slow burning story. It felt like a lot of content was unnecessary and could have been edited out * Ben swung between effortlessly adorable to rude and whiny. I didn't get him as well as the others * Plot twists a little contrived and a lot confusing
All of the above said, the cliffhanger was enough to hook me to want to read the next book and see how things resolve.
I really enjoyed this book. It was my first from the author Letty Frame so I was excited to try a new to me author and the premise - werewolf shifter, fated mates and a new baby sounded really intriguing.
Right from the start I fell for Maia - a new mum of a 5 day old baby - dealing with the emotional whiplash that comes with lack of sleep and nappies ( I can relate to that ) but then bam- her baby shifts into a werewolf. Not only that but she’s grieving and alone. Despite this she’s tough, and I really enjoyed seeing her not shrink from embracing this new supernatural world.
The quadruplets made me equal parts mad and laugh, so stupid at times but as the characters developed it was great to see them coming together with Maia- slow burn for sure.
There were plenty of twists and turns and what a cliffhanger!! I am already needing book 2 to come out.
If you enjoy shifter romance with fated mates, slow burn RH and with more than a few surprises then I would definitely recommend this book for you.
A very interesting werewolf romance- but thank goodness for the multiple POV!
I struggled at the start with this one. Our main character meets her mates- and I instantly hated them. Here's this very realistic mother of a newborn, stuck with 4 real pieces of work. But I persevered and fell in love with them once I read things from their side.
This book was a real journey. Although the men know instantly that maia is theirs, she doesn't. The author really takes you through the trials of grief and exactly what a newborn is like! The breastfeeding parts had me in stitches ( as someone who has breastfed 3 babies- it was all spot on!).
I became so invested that the ending cliffhanger was actually painful! There were a couple of very big unexpected twists just before the end. So now I am very impatiently waiting for the second book to learn about how Maia and her men recover from all that's happened and the big family secrets that are coming to light!
This was a very unique RH fated mates book. There is not a lot of world building but the author makes up for it by giving us a lot of character building and depth to the characters that makes you feel like you are right there with the characters. Maia is a single mom taking care of her 1 week old infant after her fiancée is killed in a tragic accident... or was it? When she receives the shock of her life when 1 week old Phoebe turns into a wolf pup. We see Maia work through her grief as she's also falling for her fated mates, the quadruplets: Christopher, Alexander, Sebastian and Benjamin, who also happen to be werewolves like her daughter. It is super steamy and spicy with each mate having very different bedroom interests. I loved how this book kept me on my toes the entire time, there was not one single twist that I was able to predict and I enjoyed that I was constantly guessing what was going to happen next. After that MAJOR cliff hanger at the end I cannot wait for the next book!
There are aspects of the story I like. I don’t like how the FMC just goes along with everything. I don’t like her mates(quads) they are like horny teenage boys who have never seen boobs. They are socially inept. I get wanting them to be different culturally than humans but to not realize that how they talk and act aren’t normal regardless of that. Especially when they live and interact in the same world as humans. The book focuses so much on her boobs it’s off-putting, due to her mate’s obsession with talking about them. I literally skimmed over all the “spicy” scenes. It seems irrational that all wolves are identical twins/triplets/quadruplets,etc. I did, however finish the book. I wanted to see more of her seeing her baby’s father who turned out to be one of identical triplets, he was murdered and the person she sees is his brothers(both). Ends on a cliffhanger.
I really enjoyed this. The main character is so likeable. She's just had a baby at the start and is making the most of been a single mum when the guys turn up. She is a glass half full kinda girl which is remarkable given she has lost some of the most important people in her life.
I liked her empathy but also her great feelings of right and wrong. She can see the other side even when she it is not going her way.
I liked the guys and that they are all so different. I think Topher and Seb are my favs however I have warmed to the other two. Alex's character feels a bit contradictory in places.
This ends on a huge cliffhanger and I cant wait see how it unfolds. I desperately need her to get her HEA. I feel that a huge twist point is coming with her parents, but I will wait impatiently for the next book.
Being my first read from Letty Frame I was exciting going into this from the blurb alone, because a cute baby werewolf, uh yes please. The start of the story pulls you in from the start and hooks you to keep reading. I wasn't really sure about Maia at first, but quickly overcame that be cause she's such a good mom to Phoebe. The quad are all so different in personalities and that not even counting their wolf other half. So yes, 8 different personalities. I will admit Seb is my favorite. I felt like this book was maybe just a little too long. It started losing my focus in the middle, there was so many twists and turns and surprises it was a bit difficult to stay with it. Towards the end it drew my focus back only to throw that cliffhanger at us. I did enjoy this read and would recommend it. Can't wait for the next book!
The plot and premise of this book is so unique. I love how the book focuses on Maia as a mother and details that journey for her. The guys were a bit much as each has a second name/personality for the wolf counterpart who Also has their own unique but conjoined relationship with our FMC. I started to wrap my head around it by the end of the book, but I prefer a smaller to midsize harem group and the setup felt like there was 8 of them at times. The ride was such a rollercoaster and kept me fighting through when I would disengage due to some repetitiveness and the book felt soooo long. I would recommend setting a good chunk of time aside for this story, I feel like a read an omnibus by the time I marathoned. We covered so much, but so little as more questions come up as we start getting answers that surround our crew. Excited to unravel the craziness that is Maia and Phoebe’s story.
I'm going to try and not spoil anything but also give you the Review you need to make your decision.
If you are a person that lives for the back and forth drama of life whether it be little pet peeves or big life altering moments. This story has it. So of the stuff that the main characters argue and make up over are childish (stupid). Even though they might have been forgiven it will be brought up repeatedly to the point of whiplash.
On the other hand the story does hook you to a point that you just can't help but push through it because you are now invested in this drama. The lead is a hypocrite at times which is all apart of the drama even if it drives me up the walls.
With all that being said this is just the 1st installment and I do seeing it getting alot better down the road hint why I only gave it 3 🌟. I personally can't wait to see what happens next.
Finished within two days and wow the story line was good and got a good introduction to all the characters. Maia Blake is grieving for her fiance and now trying to raise their baby by herself, she knew nothing of the supernatural world until her own baby turned into a werewolf, she panicked and phoned the police and this was the start of her and the babies journey. she was taken to a pack where she then met not one but four identical mates and they all want to protect her and her baby.
They come together and Maia learns about this new world however it gets difficult when she thinks she can see her dead fiance but truths come to light and she has to learn what it is to be mates and also learning about her fiance's family.
I cant wait to read the next book as i want to see what happens with the fiances family and also her relationships with her mates.
Emotional but intriguing I loved reading this story as it was something so unique and emotional. Maia's struggles as a mother, widow, and now fated mate are all so relatable in many ways. Motherhood is difficult to navigate, especially for a first time mother, and when you throw in all that she ends up going through-learning about her fiance's truths, and there are multiple, and finding out she's fated to be a mate to multiple shifters, it's overwhelming. Top that with her emotional instability due to the birth of her daughter, this is a very overwhelming time. But the support she finds in all this, the slow build of trust, is so important and a beautiful to read about. If you're looking for a book that'll touch all your heartstrings and show you a side of life that can often be hidden for it's difficulty, you'll love this story of strength and endurance.
