In 1963, a young executive’s wife makes her weekly Friday afternoon visit to Connie’s Coiffures to get her hair styled for the upcoming weekend. Tonight, she looks forward to their dinner date with friends. Victoria grew to LOVE her weekly hair appointment and the way she looked and felt when she left Connie’s Coiffures. She particularly enjoyed her husband’s attention following her beauty shop makeovers. In addition to her weekly shampoo and set, this visit includes a haircut and permanent wave, making for a long day at the female house of beauty. While walking through the salon on her way to Miss Connie’s booth, Victoria pauses as she takes in the sights, sounds, and smells around her. She sees women getting haircuts, colorings, and hair settings in preparation for their time under the dryer where they will relax, enjoy a manicure, beverage or cigarette as they peruse the tabloid magazines. Once they return to their operator’s chair, they will be ensconced in feminine comb-out capes in preparation for their comb-outs. Their hair will be brushed, teased, then shaped into a fresh hairstyle for the upcoming week. Before they are stripped of their feminine attire, their hair will be sprayed with enough lacquer to stave off next week’s highest wind gusts. Looking around the room, Victoria is reminded of the effort women endure to maintain a feminine appearance. While sitting under the dryer, Victoria suddenly becomes aware of the young blond woman with the enormous hair entering Connie’s booth. A kerchief partially covers the mound of ratted hair on top of her head. There is a look of trepidation in her eyes as she dreadfully takes a seat in Connie’s chair. Unbeknownst to Victoria, something is about to happen to all that cotton-candy hair that will have a profound effect on her. The haircut that she is about to witness, in her front-row seat, will unleash an excitement unlike anything she has ever experienced.
