I loved A Cursed Son, Book 1 in Day Leitao's Remnants of the Fallen Kingdom series. I loved the story's premise, the idea of Marlak and Astra hunting each other's dreams and finding a way to each other in the real world. I loved how whimsical and exciting it all was. I loved Astra and Marlak together and as individuals. I loved the side characters and what they brought to the story. But I couldn't even imagine how much I would obsess over its sequel, A Traitor Sister.

A Traitor Sister is like a wild rollercoaster of actions and emotions, all packed together perfectly. There is so much going on from the first to the last page, yet it never feels overbearing. The story is so much bigger than Marlak and Astra alone; the stakes are higher, the secrets are bigger, and the revelations are jaw-dropping. We learn so much along the way about the world and its hidden history. We are gifted with multiple POVs to truly understand everyone's motives and wants, whether they are the ones we cheer for or the ones we see as villains. But are they villains?

Astra and Marlak are still with us and still the main protagonists, but in the sequel, they share the spotlight with others, like Lidiane, Tarlia, Renel, and Azur. Each of them is an essential part of the plot, offering new perspectives and POVs. Relationships are developing; friendships are rising; tentative truces and allies are made. Everything and everyone is in turmoil, and Day does a remarkable job of showing us all these intricacies.

A Traitor Sister will be an experience you will enjoy; you won't be able to leave the book behind. You will be so immersed in the story and characters that the real world will be hazy. So, mark your calendars for February 12th and dive into this with us. Thank you, Day, for (again) having me on your ARC team; I can't wait for the finale!

Wow. Usually, the second book in a series has a huge lull to it but I REALLY enjoyed this one! We get POVs of our well established FMC, Astra, and MMC, Marlak, but we get multiple new POVs of side characters. One thing that makes a good fantasy book great is well developed side characters and their respective relationships, and Day totally delivered on that part!

The ending of book 2 was pretty jarring so I am fully invested and ready for book 3!!

Thank you so much to Day Leteiao, NetGalley, and Victory Editing for the eARC!

*Warning*
This book is highly addictive, and I have been experiencing the following symptoms since I started reading it:
1. Lack of interest in getting back to the real world.
2. A sense of constant dread as I kept getting closer to the end.
3. Anxiety, because of the various twists and turns that led to mind-blowing revelations.
4. The uncontrollable urge to shake some sense into the characters and scream "just talk to each other" every 5 minutes.
5. And finally... the spicy scenes were... you know... ahem... don't make me say it!

Day Leitao has outdone herself with this one. I loved the redemption arc! The characters were beautifully written, and I can't believe the people I once hated are the ones I fell in love with in this book. Astra and Marlak were the MCs in the first book, but the others stole the show in this one. I'm rooting for Tarlia, and I can't wait for Nelsin and Ferer to get back together.

I'm usually not a fan of multiple, first-person POVs, but the writing style was just perfect. There was so much detailing which revealed each character's emotions, thought processess, struggles, and motives. It helped me establish a deeper connection with them, almost like I knew them personally.

The worldbuilding was amazing, with details about the locations, magical abilities and power plays. The entire book felt like a rollercoaster ride. I would calm myself down after an intense scene and then assume it would be a while before the next interesting thing, and then BAM! I'd get hit with the craziest twist.

Although this book gave a lot of answers, it did end on a cliffhanger, and I have more questions than ever. I'm dying to know Zorwal's deal, hoping for a slow and painful death for Otavio, still undecided about Mirella, and extremely curious about Astra and Azur's ancestry.

I would recommend this book to fantasy lovers who enjoy the found family trope, spicy romance, redemption arcs, lots of action, secrets and unique magic.

𐙚 ARC review

This book is the second one in the series, please, read A cursed son (the 1st book of the series).

-

She has wild, playful eyes and a look that drives me mad.
Tarlia. An impostor.
A beautiful, bold impostor.
A fearless woman who held her own against a horde of monsters.
A beautiful woman who gave me the strength to keep going, keep fighting.
How long would I have resisted if it weren’t for her?
Tarlia. A solace in this moment, a respite from my dread and pain.

𐙚 Renel and Tarlia

She’s all mine in this moment.
Mine to please. Mine to tease.
Mine to lick and taste and adore.
Mine, if only for a night.

I'll start by them because I feel like it's their book, their moment.

I was very surprised when I discovered them, and good grief, I’m so happy I got to read their story. Seeing the title of this book, I was expecting something else—I thought I’d be reading about Tarlia betraying Astra. But I never expected to enjoy reading about her so much, especially from her point of view. It was truly amazing.

Renel and Tarlia? They were definitely my favorites in this book. There’s something about their relationship that completely overshadowed everything else for me. Honestly, I wanted more of them—I wanted to read more about them—and Marlak and Astra ended up taking a backseat (even though I really like them too).

𐙚 Marlak and Astra

“You can’t have always loved me.”
“Soulmates do. Their love is eternal. Unbreakable. Throughout their many lives, they’ll be connected. And you know that’s what we are.”

After the end of the first book, I was eagerly waiting to see their reunion, and I absolutely loved reading it. What I enjoyed even more was the fact that Astra rightfully called her out on her behavior. I still love their story, and their love is just incredible. There isn’t a single moment that feels any less tender than the others. Their declarations of love are always so deep and beautiful.

𐙚 Lidiane and Azur

Azur huffs. “Lidiane will find love and joy, and I’ll be but a passing, insignificant shadow in her life. When I die, she won’t shed a single tear. That’s my gift to her. I could have given her my heart, my life, but if all I can give her is freedom from the suffering of this bond, then so be it.”

It was the romance I didn’t expect but absolutely loved. It was such a pleasure to read. I adored seeing them interact and realize their bond. And it was incredibly touching to see Azur push Lidiane away—the way he spoke about her, about his feelings for her, I absolutely loved it.

𐙚 The story in itself

I’m just so impressed by this story. Whether it’s the first book or this one, I’m absolutely blown away. I love this story. The first book focused a lot on the romance between Marlak and Astra, while this one allows us to dive deeper into the plot—uncovering so much about the rivalry between the two brothers, their past, the world itself, and the events to come.

I have to say, it takes a brilliant mind to come up with all of this. Everything was so incredibly well-written and orchestrated—I still haven’t gotten over it!

Some moments are sweet, others touching, and some even funny. Everything fits together so well—nothing feels like too much or too little. I just can’t wait to read more!

Both the first book and this one mean a lot to me because I’ve truly invested myself in these stories and in each character’s journey. Everything is just so perfect.

When I read the ending, I screamed. Honestly, I screamed. It was just exceptional, and now reading the next book isn’t just something I want—it’s something I need.

𐙚 Last words for this review

I’m really grateful to have had the chance to read this ARC—it means so much to me, especially since I also got to read the ARC of the first book. I’m so happy to have read more about Marlak and Astra and to have discovered Tarlia, Renel, Lidiane, and Azur. I truly hope I’ll get to see more of them in the third book!

𐙚 Quotes

“Hello.”
Lidiane approaches me.
“I’m so sorry! I’m Lidiane, former dressmaker, current troublemaker.”
I laugh. “That’s a good job.”
She scrunches her nose. “The pay is crap.”

He runs the back of a finger over my face so softly. “You made me forget my anguish, but this is not the time for forgetting; I have to face it. If I survive this, if I survive the castle and the Fiery Gorge, I’ll find you.” His tone, his look, his gentleness are grabbing my heart—and squeezing it. And it hurts. It hurts to be trifled with.
“Don’t make promises you don’t mean.”
“Tar, I’m fae. Words bind me. I’ll find you, and if you want me, we’ll see what happens.”

“It’s not like I have a bunch of choices. Better than being naked, don’t you think?”
“No.” He frowns. “I much prefer you naked.”
“Oh. Why didn’t you say so?” I undo the top button of my shirt and start undoing the next one. He places a hand on top of mine.
“Naked just for me. I find I’m more possessive than most fae.”

Tarlia. I was so ready to bring her with me to the castle, to hear her laugh every night, to taste more of her, to make love to her on a decent bed. I’d even find a way to make her that dessert she said she likes so much.

She smirks, giving me a challenging look, her eyes pure fire. Beautiful, fearless Tarlia.

“I look back and don’t even understand what I was thinking. It was as if you were a key to open my shackles. That was completely selfish, but at that moment, I saw you as a sign, a gift. I was thinking of what you could bring to me, wondering what would happen once you also felt the bond. I wondered what it would be like to kiss you, to hold you in my arms, to look at you and see the same feeling reflected in you. I imagined all that. Foolish, foolish dreams, as if I wasn’t a guardian, as if my life wasn’t bound.”

Renel grimaces. “That’s what the sum of our minds can come up with? Run and hope for the best? That’s a wild creature’s solution.”

Perhaps one day, when I’m free, if I’m free, I’ll find her. This is not the time.

“Marlak, you’re tired. Eat.” He’s still kissing my neck, and mumbles against it.
“Can I choose what I eat?” “There’s soup.” His palms press against my lower back while he kisses my collarbone. “I want you.”

He stares at her. “I think you’re insane. You’re in love with Marlak, right? You are insane.”

Instead of breaking his hug, he kisses my neck. “Do you still love me?”
“Do you, Marlak?”
“Loving you is like breathing. I’ve always done it. I’m always doing it, even when I don’t think about it, even when my mind is elsewhere. It’s part of who I am. It’s what keeps me alive.”

As the second book in this series, I found that I was just as intrigued in the second book like I was the first.

Our main characters remain the same, but we do add a few additional main characters that have made the series so much better!

This book has multiple POV’s and they’re easy to follow. There are so much adventure, secrets, banter, chosen family. Expect to find yourself on a roller coaster of emotions.

I can not recommend this series enough!

The book did end on a cliffhanger so you will need to hang tight until the next book is out for answers .

I listened to the audio of this book, and the audio version was wonderful! No foreign noises!

This series is just so much fun! If you are looking for a spicy fae romantasy that let's you escape the world this is it!

Everything get's so much bigger in book two. More POV's, more quests, higher stakes, laugh-out-loud moments, new romantic entanglements. I loved every minute!

In A Traitor Sister, we get new quests with different traveling companions, providing plenty of conflict and exciting new dynamics.

I loved the additions of Azur and Renel's POV's which added so much depth and new twists to the story.

I devoured this installment and can not wait for the next book in the series!

✨A Traitor Sister✨

Wow. Book 2 in the Remnants of the Fallen Kingdom series and Day straight took us on a ROLLERCOASTER. This book was such an utter delight, still fulfilling all our Romantasy dreams while taking us on an epic journey of twists, turns, and reveals!

While we still get POVs from our favorite Marlak and Astra, we get MANY more insights and romances along with them. Marlak and Astra are still deeply involved in this book, but we primarily spend our time getting to know two new sets of FMCs and MMCs: Lidiane, Tarlia, Renel, and Azur. These POVs are intricately woven and all careening across a tenuous tightrope as their lives are all tied together in some mysterious way. The stakes are high as they find strange occurrences, lots of monsters, and a path set to self-destruct. Their clock is ticking and the time is speeding up, leading not only to destruction or death, but a release of something worse than either.

I had such a fun time within these pages. The way Day laid it all out and moved through the POVs had me reaching for the next page and never wanting to set it down. The relationships she’s cultivating are moving, tragic, tense, sensual, and full of banter. And that ending! Wow. This book was full of so much info, reveals, questions, and mystery! I’m dying for book three! There’s so much to come!

Tropes you’ll find in ATS are forced proximity, soul mates, reluctant allis, new and old chosen family, banter, feminine rage, elemental magic, chosen one, hidden identities, plot twists, court intrigue, and low to medium spice.

A Traitor Sister release February 15! Thank you so much, Day, for this gifted arc. I’m so invested!

I don’t know how to feel about this book. I definitely liked the first book better than this one. My main issue with it was that it was extremely long, and felt sluggish because of all the different point of views added in this one versus the last one. I never like books with lots of POVs, so maybe that’s my own fault, but still. There were some good points, and once I got past the slower start, I enjoyed some of the new POVs. Overall, it was a decent continuation of the series, but I doubt I will read the next book.

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

**Thank you to the Author and team for the gifted ARC of A Traitor Sister; all opinions are my own.**

4.5 ⭐️ ▪︎ 2 🌶 ▪︎ 📱

This was one of my most anticipated sequels for this year, and I am so impressed with it! Like WOW! I loved getting to know all the characters better from their own POVs. The story was engaging, and I have so many feelings. I CANNOT WAIT to read the next installment!

This book has so much going on, and at every turn, I kept wondering who would betray who, if anyone!

If you like:
☆enemies-to-lovers
☆forced marriage/marriage of convenience
☆elemental magic
☆Fae courts
☆steamy dreams
☆found family
then you should try this series!

So many people and side quests!! And at first I didn’t like the new flow of the story, but then I kinda got into it and I was more invested in the new people than the OG main characters. I am weirdly most intrigued by Renel because he is such a contradiction of character traits. I still don’t know if I like him but I think I want to?

What you’ll find in this book:
- Enemies to lovers
- Fae Courts
- Magical Moving Castles
- Hidden Identities
- Hilarious Banter
- Heroines Embracing their Power
- Multiple POV’s
- Prophecies

Oh this was everything I wanted but never knew I needed from book two in this series, utterly gorgeous. Following straight on from the events of book one, I thought I knew where we would be going in this book, but I could not have been more wrong. Day took this book in a direction I was not expecting, we had multiple POV’s and storylines working in tandem which provide us an insight into characters we know well and those we don’t further enhancing the story. If you’re looking for a series packed with the most tantalising slow burn, enemy’s to lovers with hidden identities, secrets, banter and magical moving castles then look no further.

Tearing down pretences about certain characters, as we delve further into the mystery of who Astra is and where she came from; following along as both her and Marlak work to try and save the people they love. Trapped apart, our two main characters must use everything at their disposal as well as relying on the friends they have made along the way to help them once again reunite. With foes at every turn and Crystal Castle on the move towards a perilous destination and time ticking, can our host of characters work together to save the kingdom in time against all odds?

I adored getting to know and explore certain characters more as we explore their personalities and motives. We delve further into the relationship between the characters we know and love from book further setting foundations for this amazing story. It certainly felt like Day took us slightly away from the main characters in book one, and it worked in the most fitting way for this developing storyline and its growing complexity. The new characters that we get to meet in this story absolutely make this story the spectacular one that it is, Day shows us a whole new side to characters we thought we knew.

Alongside all of this we also got treated to a whole host of new environments to explore. With mysteries solved and information revealed along with more mysteries coming to light as the story progressed, I am incredibly excited to see where Day takes book three. Once again we were provided with the most tantalising ending that left me already wanting more.

The ending left me stranded on a cliff that I can't go back from. I have to jump, and I gladly jumped. Now I'm flying and waiting to either land on the back of Cherry Cake or fly from Marlak's or Azur's air magic, and maybe we can transcend to a quiet place. But for now my mind replays the events that I experienced while being immersed in the world that Day Leitao created. I have become so emotionally attached to all the characters that I slept with a hollow feeling, wanting to read more about their adventure, more about their bonds, more about everything involving them. I'm imagining what it would be like to live there forever, to hear their voice, to experience their reunion (which would hopefully happen in the third book), to see them form a family that is not bounded by blood but something much stronger; they were all children betrayed by the person they trusted to guide them, and to see them finally get the freedom and peaceful life they deserve. In the back of my mind, I'm still there waiting for Astra's next move, waiting for Marlak to find her, waiting for Renel to clear all the misunderstanding with Marlak and rescue Tar, and waiting for Ferer to get Nelsin back and clear their odds once and for all. I'm waiting, waiting, waiting. I will wait to experience all this again.

Day Leitao did an amazing job writing both the books; the POV of all the characters was so important to understand the depth of the situation from their perspective, and I loved how the separation of Marlak and Astra was not unnecessarily prolonged.

Thank you to Day Leitao for giving me an ARC of both the books. I will be here whenever you announce the third book. 😁

A Traitor Sister will be out on February 12, so mark your calendars to experience the amazing development of all the characters and their adventure.

I loved A Cursed Son, Book 1 in Remnants of the Fallen Kingdom, but I loved Book 2 even more! I was really on the fence whether to go with 4 or 5 stars for Book 1, and now realize Book 1 was a starting point to begin the story and build it up. I feel like after reading Book 2 I definitely need to bump up my rating for Book 1, and Book 2 is everything!!

Read this if you love:
-Enemies to lovers
-Forced proximity
-Hilarious banter
-Elemental Magic
-Feminine rage
-Unique magic system
-Soulmates
-Cautious collaborators
-Personal vendettas
-Hidden identities
-Plot twists

More POVs are added to Book 2 which I personally loved. The story is so unique, and the storytelling is fantastic. It’s an exciting and emotional rollercoaster. More characters are introduced, and they are all part of the bigger story, with bigger secrets, and higher stakes. Everyone involved has a part to play and it is all revealed in time! It’s an amazing journey and I loved experiencing the relationships, friendships, family, enemies, lovers, allies, oh my. I couldn’t put this book down, there was so much action and intrigue, I needed to know what was going to happen. Can we say plot twist?! Many late nights of telling myself one more chapter!

I honestly have no critiques. I would highly recommend this series.

A Traitor Sister releases February 12th! Thank you so much Day, for having me on your ARC team; I am truly grateful. I can't wait to find out what happens next, and I can’t wait for the Kickstarter to get my hands on some beautiful physical copies!! The Kickstarter starts on February 12th for those who are interested in some lovely SEs :).

The second book picks up right where the first one ended and whew!! This installment had me on the edge of the seat with what will happen to both Astra and Marlak next. I loved how this one delved more into the secondary characters and we followed them as well. They are a great group of friends that Astra and Marlak can depend on. I enjoyed seeing Lidiane, Tarlia, Renel, and Azur characters shine, and that ending! I didn’t see that at all. The narrators, E.M. Wylde, and Caitlin Kelly's performance was addicting and kept me engaged till the end. I have zero complaints! I’m patiently waiting till October to see what happens next in this world.

A special thanks to Dreamscape Select, Sparkly Wave, + Netgalley for the gifted ALC.

This story starts at 100 and only keeps going faster. At first, the many POV’s was a little much to get used to but then I found myself looking forward to going back and forth to see where everyone was at and what they were all doing and thinking. And then the end when they all come together was like that moment in Crazy Stupid Love when you finally get to see everyone all together and it’s chaos and kind of amusing and everyone’s confused because they don’t know what’s going on but we know! It was epic, exciting, emotional and now I can’t wait until book 3!!!

oh boy the jump from one perspective with Astra to what, 7!!! perspectives in the sequel....it is a bit overwhelming. besides the too many povs (would've preferred 1 pov in book 1, 3 povs in book 2, 5 povs in book 3, etc) i enjoy the characters interacting with each other, learning the truths of the big world beyond their personal perceptions. it's very quest-y with overlapping adjectives in the expansive worldbuilding. i had a good time but felt lost and overwhelmed but kept my intrigue throughout and will likely pick up the third book (when the audiobook comes out likely)

Bravo Day, BRAVO! What an ending. I am shook. I need book 3 right now.
I loved having the various POVs throughout this book. It's new for me to have so many POVs, but it worked out in favor for this book/series.

I'm stunned at the ending cliffhanger. Like literally picking my jaw up off of the floor. This book follows Astra, Marlak, Renel, Tarlia, Zevin, Azur, and Lidiane (I think those were all the POVs). It gives such a unique insight into the multiples storylines going on at the same time. Just a truly captivating storyline so far.

I can't wait to get book 3!

After reading A Cursed Son, I was so excited for book 2 in the series, A Traitor Sister. A Cursed Son left me with so many questions and theories, I couldn't wait to dive back into the wonderful world Leitao is weaving!

I was surprised to see the multiple POVs in this book, but really enjoyed reading about the different character's thoughts and experiences throughout the story. It would have been nice to see more of Astra and Marlak's POV, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the varying perspectives.

A Traitor Sister really takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions as well and twists and turns within the plot. While many of my questions from book 1 were answered, now I'm left with even more! Not to mention that cliffhanger that we're left on at the end....

Book 3 can't come quick enough!

I would like to start off by saying that I absolutely INHALED the first book in this series and then sat around twiddling my thumbs for the second book to be released. And I hate to say it, the second book was not as strong for me as the first one was.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love the characters! But I really think that the story and plot would have been a lot stronger if it wasn’t constantly switching to another person’s POV. I can typically handle when an author gives us around 2-3 points of view, but I think that having around 6 POVs going all intricately at the same time made it feel like we didn’t see a lot of growth from the characters. Add to that that this book was almost 600 pages and all of the events only really happened within a handful of days, so that doesn’t really give the reader a whole bunch of time to see relationships unfold and flourish when its a short timeline and a LOT of characters feeling things.

I still really thoroughly enjoyed reading this series thus far and I cannot wait for the rest of the series to unfold! This is a very diverse world with a lot of unique storylines and I recommend this series to anyone that wants a fantasy with romance and found family and a strong group of FMCs!

What in the hell was that ending?! Those twists?! I loved this book, perhaps even more than book one??? Leitao hooked me with A Cursed Son, then followed up with such a ❤️banger❤️ in A Traitor Sister that I'm ✨️desperate✨️ for the next one already. So much happened in this book, so many storylines and POVs, yet I could see everything intertwining beautifully while never once seeming like too much or overwhelming. If anything, Leitao has given herself so much more content to explore and play with in subsequent books that I'm really excited to see how big she goes with it (and how she'll eventually tie everything up). Agh, there's so much I loved, but I dare not get too detailed here for fear of giving away any spoilers 👀

Long story short— I would, without a doubt, definitely recommend this series to fans of fantasy romance and/or epic, high fantasy (think ACOTAR + TOG). Thanks so much to Leitao for the advance copy!! 🫶

DNF not even 20 pages in.

I don’t remember A Cursed Son having such stilted writing, but A Traitor Sister was a rough read. The author’s writing style/voice is very jarring and poorly phrased. I understand this is an advanced copy, so editing wasn’t complete once it was sent out, but I don’t think small edits here and there would’ve fixed my issues with it. There are way too many one word sentences and every character’s monologue sounds the exact same - which is a problem when this story appears to include multiple POVs. I’m happy there’s a good amount of reviews loving this, but I could not get over the writing style and format. It was bad and now I’m wondering if the first book was similar? I vaguely recall thinking the writing was off/weird in the first book at various points, but not enough to ruin my experience. However, the writing here was so bad I can’t just ignore it this time.

I might be in the minority with this opinion, but that’s fine and I hope tons of readers love this! I’m just not one of them.

Thank you to the author for sending me an early copy!

I really enjoyed this book! The story follows a young heroine who faces tough choices and dangerous challenges while trying to uncover the truth. The supporting characters truly shine in this one, adding so much depth and heart to the story. The world building continues to be immersive, with even more intricate magic and clever political twists that kept me guessing. Plus, the romance keeps getting better, really pulling at your heartstrings. If you enjoy stories with action, magic, and complex relationships, this book is a great pick!

Alright, I will admit I spent around 40 percent of this book upset that I had to deal with an extra like 5 povs when the first book was solely one POV. Then I got over it...maybe. spoilers.

What a rollercoaster of a second book. So much happens for our characters. The author develops relationships and connections to over 5 people and you fall into this little group and want them to survive. We start off thinking Renal and his group are evil then end up spending a majority of the book with them and figuring out there are always two sides to a story. I am freely admitting I was annoyed in the beginning because after reading book one I wanted to keep reading about Astra and Marlak. I wanted his pov sure but I wanted to walk right back into their love story because we didn't even really get one in book one until 95 percent. However I did eventually concede that the story was fresher and didn't fall into a second book slump because of the character additions, even if I do so begrudgingly.

I will say I felt a pretty big slump in the middle of the book and wanted to fast forward a little. I am never a huge fan of slow burn (see my review of book one) but when you now added 3 other couples that all have slow burn, I just wanted one couple to be doing something. I mean Astra and Marlak were the only hope for that and they spent the entire book apart from each other. I had nothing to satiate the need there.

Overall there is a ton happening in this book, family betrayal and fae bargains keeping people from telling the truth. Multiple thrones being toppled and changed, and now we have a random Witch King that was talked about super briefly coming back for some type of revenge, and *spoilers* he's Astra's grandfather! Intense, and we have Tarlia being taken in a bargain after saving Renal, which I swear to God I didn't not care at all about until over half way through this book. I am just hoping the author remembers the amount of chaos she is causing and can wrap these storylines up in a way that doesn't miss a ton of stuff and that doesn't just quickly fix everything.

Honestly needed a good read and can't wait for the next installment.

4.5 stars for an exciting, action-packed book 2!!

We pick up right where we left off from book one in a moment of high intensity, and we don’t stop going until that last page with some reveals that made my jaw DROP. This book was filled with twists and turns, an expanded world, an exciting collection of POVs that created more depth for some side characters we loved (and some we hated), and so much of what we loved from book 1!

In addition to Astra and Marlak, this time we got action (and some extra romance) from Marlak’s brother and enemy (but should he be) Renel, Renel’s bound guardian rocking a cool hat Azur, Astra’s decoy sister/friend Tarlia, dressmaker with a secret Lidiane, and lazy prince searching for purpose Ziven. The story really takes its time, letting us see what’s happening with all the characters at each moment, letting us have 3 or even 4 individual storylines happening chronologically at once. This absolutely made it easier to feel like I was in the world with them, fighting ghouls in the shadow lands or going on a rescue mission or hiding in plain sight. Each of the characters got their moments to shine, and often their moments where they didn’t shine. Day has done a magnificent job creating a cast of really complicated characters, some who do bad for good reasons, some who do good for bad reasons, some with their secrets, and some with their motives written on their face.

Not only were the characters so well-developed, the plot was exciting and left me guessing which path it would take. Sometimes I was right, sometimes I was wrong, but all the time I was HERE for it!

There were just a couple of small editing errors that should be checked (specifically about names- a Nara/Nora and an Ethan/Ether confusion- but bigger one about a certain nickname for a certain decoy and who knows what and when), but knowing this was an advance copy means those should be seen :)

Thank you so much to Day Leitao and NetGalley for a chance to read this in exchange for an honest review! I’m loving the series and can’t wait to learn more about book three…

Thank you NetGalley and Sparkly Wave for a copy of this e-arc!

Book 1, A Cursed Son, was great for me. Book 2 here, was FANTASTIC!

Step back into a world where you discover if the villains are really the villains? Is love true love? Heroes really heroes? Sometimes yes, sometimes no!

The author switched it up this round, going to a multiple POV story telling. I LOVED this decision. At first, I was skeptical, but honestly, I loved the side characters POV’s more than Astra and Marlak’s sometimes. We got SO much from these side characters and I loved exploring more of their stories. I think their own side adventures add to the whole overall story going on throughout the book, which is Astra working to find her true self. There was some twist and turns I didn’t expect and others maybe I did, but didn’t take away from the story.

We got a lot more spicy in this book too, which, thank you! One thing I really appreciate about the female characters especially in this story, is they are not ashamed about their sexual pasts. And that their partners don’t shame them either for their thoughts on sex. It’s a refreshing approach to the usual romantasy style writing. It opens up a lot of doors for directions spicy scenes can go.

The one thing that sucks about being an arc reader, is you have to wait EXTRA long for the next book. I’m excited for book 3 and hope it comes out soon!
