I loved it! I really-really loved it!
That was my last coherent thought before drifting off to sleep after finishing reading it, late into the night. And I really recommend this story from the bottom of my heart!

Beautiful. Heartwarming. Funny. Romantic. Crazily cute. Emotional. Perfect. That’s all He+She is… and more.

Why is it that, you ask?
Because of the quality of the writing. The fleshed-out, full of life characters. The open and funny conversations. The freshness of the plot even. The cuteness surrounding the couple. The heartbreak in their past and the hope for their future..

Taken piece by piece or as a whole, it is absolutely perfect!

I know a story is good when I keep trying to corner my husband and tell him all about it. Poor Mike, he was trying to sleep and I was talking his ears off, all enthusiastic and giggly. But, oh… how wonderful this tangled mess was; how beautifully their stories got to entwine; how full of fun and crazy cuteness their adventures were; how undeniable and tangible the chemistry between them really was.

To be honest I was expecting some fluff summer-story, silly me, but He+She is a lot more than that. Even though it borrows a few common elements from the genre it belongs to, with the optimism of Shea + the honesty of Hew + the freshness of the plot itself, this book shines on its own. Not to mention that the ‘dark past’ element had an actual purpose – I bet you’ve noticed that it is usually used just to grab the attention, but in this particular case it had full depth, it actually defined the characters, the contours of their souls and the reasons behind their actions.

There were things that left me with my mouth hanging wide open in surprise. In fact there were even some mouth watering scenes. Also there was this ‘giggleness’, this deep feeling of rightness you only get when you read a complex story that’s been broken into tiny little pieces that slowly start to fit together.

This is the best NA I've ever read and probably one of the very best contemporary stories on my list!

Michelle has become suddenly one of my top favourite authors. I can’t wait to read more from her! And I can’t wait too for He+She to be officially released, because I want it on my shelf really-really badly!

Happy midnight reading!

4 stars! This book was so fun!! I felt like I was there with them ! It's has funny moments, sweet moment, HOT moments and sad moments .. Both of them were on a journey to heal, and together they find in each other their missing piece. The twists were really shocking! To be honest? I did not saw it coming! The author did a really good job with that! I loved how it ends, finding out their names and all that, but still .. I wanted more closure .. More ENDING lol .. Overall, a really good book! It had his moments but after finishing it I miss them already <3

'He + She' acts like an YA/NA crossover book and feels like it's been inspired by 'The Edge of Never' and 'Hopeless'.

It is positively well written and the whole thing is very romanticized, perfect for readers who love the fluffier side of romance.

I loved the exploratory side of the book, I could clearly visualize all the scenes and it made for a beautiful setting. The character's meeting was fab, I also thought the character depth was great.

I can't help the feeling that something was missing, something needed to push it over the edge from a 4 star to a 5 for me. I think there should have been more made out of the dark underlying theme of the characters; there were real heavy issues there that should have felt more torturous than they did. I also understand the characters had a lot of fun together. I saw that, and I enjoyed, but maybe it should have been funny too.

Overall, it's a sweet, angsty, mysterious, romantic and adventurous read that may be more suited to real lovers of the YA/NA crossover genre.

Quirky, fun, heartfelt and sexy--this book knocked my socks off. This is Warren's first New Adult Contemporary Romance...and I sincerely hope it won't be her last! One of my favorites of 2014!!

I'm going to keep my preliminary review relatively short, as I try to wrap my mind around the last 30% of this novel.

The novel He + She is really quite good! It kept me guessing, which is rare in the New Adult-Contemporary Genre. I would venture to say that 90% of the themes & plots in this genre are "overused & abused." However, He + She is fresh & fun... and as you can probably tell, it totally knocked me on my a$$. I am gobsmacked!!!

Would I recommend this novel? Absolutely!!! If you're tired of reading about recycled plots & themes, then this novel would definitely be a breath of fresh air. It's well-written, and since I often feel like the Editing Police, I must mention that I only found 1 typographical error in this novel (which is almost a miracle in & of itself, since I usually find ten, on average, when reading just about any book in this genre).

I took my time while reading this novel, savoring every sentence & every adventure. Some parts were downright hysterical; some parts were shocking; some parts were heartbreaking; some parts were truly beautiful.... If you've read the blurb, then you already know that the majority of this novel takes place during an impromptu road trip. IMO, this novel is similar to The Edge of Never but SO MUCH BETTER!!! (No offense to my wonderful Goodreads friends who love J.A. Redmerski's best-selling novel, but for me, The Edge of Never was a 'good' novel that oftentimes left me bored & underwhelmed, as well as annoyed at its plethora of grammatical & typographical mistakes). He + She, on the other hand, never had a dull moment. It kept me on my toes... and it kept my mind churning.

Would I refer to it as a perfect novel? NO. However, I'm a b*tchy book critic, with very exacting standards. If I had to describe He + She, I'd say that it's a unique, well-written & captivating read. It's incredibly witty, but also mysterious & edgy... and this peculiar combination is bound to keep readers engaged & constantly guessing. In my estimation, this novel is SO much better than most of the NA/Contemporary crap that I've had the displeasure of reading as of late, and I HIGHLY recommend it.

Tentative rating: *4/5 stars*

*** BTW. there is a note from author Michelle Warren that can be found at the end of the novel. I encourage everyone to read her note AFTER reading the actual novel, as it contains vital information.

*** A special thank you to Judy for bringing this wonderful novel to my attention. <3

WOW! that was complete not at all what i expected and I absolutely loved it.

I went into this book with very little information and practically zero expectations. No one I knew had really read it and it's a super under the radar but i decided to take the chance and boy did it pay off. Expecting an average boy meets girl, they fall in love, insecurities and/or other issues lead to breakup but all is well in the end when they realize how stupid they were and how much they luuurve each other. THIS BOOK WAS NOTHING LIKE THE AFOREMENTIONED RETELLING. I just, can't even put it into words what a wonderful surprise He+ She was.

It was just… ugh, I'm at a lack for words. Fucking Perfect.

Both Shea and Hew were dynamic and complimented each other extremely well, and I completely felt as if I was standing right by the MCs, watching everything that occurred and feeling exactly how they felt, the love and loss, the heartaches, the laughs and everything in between.

I want to keep this review fairly brief since i feel anything I say will give away too much of the story. There was just so much that happened but at the same time it didn't become too cluttered with unnecessary parts. The twist was completely unexpected and so fucking perfect. Rather than studying for my impending Math final, I spent a couple hours of my time and read this and I don't regret a single fucking second of it. If I didn't mention this before, I loved this.

While I didn’t really like insta-love component in the plot line , I still think this novel was a solid NA read. The theory I had about the twist was the reason why I was able to hang onto the story. Hew was a great hero, the highlight in this book for me.

Like:
Hew, San Francisco, Palace of Fine Arts, Forgiveness

Meh:
The serious issues they faced in the last 30% were resolved rather quickly.
The pace of storyline is uneven.

I guess if you like the twist in Unravel, you may like He+She

I was so excited to get my hands on this book. I am a cover snob, and of course LOVED this one. I have been known to pick up books just because I loved the cover. Sometimes that works out well and other times, not so much. This one lives up to the beautiful cover. This book grabbed me from the first pages and didn't let go til the very end. And to be completely honest, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have a book hangover from this little gem. I think that happens with books that grab my heart and squeeze, causing laughter, heartache and tears.

These two main characters are just amazing. Ms. Warren created two people who are clearly very broken - whose whole story you are DYING to know. And they are such wonderful, loveable characters. Their attraction is so tangible that you feel like you can reach out and touch it. The romance is sweet and Ms. Warren take great care in their intimate scenes. Their joy is infectious. The time they spend together is delightful. And at about 70% (give or take) get ready to drop your jaw in shock and dismay. I won't go any further, so as not to spoil it for anybody, but at was at about this point that I thought that I had just been mind F@#%*$d......for 75% of this book. But never fear. Ms. Warren has it covered and wraps up this touching story in a beautiful way that had me crying happy tears.

This is a gem of a story. Keep up the good work Ms. Warren!

And I have to say - it's kind of nice to have a nice, hearty stand alone book, without having to commit to a series, knowing that my TBR pile is insane already!

This book is brilliant! There were so many twists and turns that I did not see coming. I am totally blown away by how good this book is! I loved Hew and Shea. The way that their relationship develops is beautiful - I loved their banter and their friendship. This book was so well written that I could not put it down from when I started. My only complaint is that I wish there was an epilogue. I love this book, it's one of the top books I've read this year and it will stay with me for a long time. Highly recommend!

WOW, I didn't see this one coming -- neither how good this book was nor the complete surprise that occurred during it (I usually pride myself on figuring out a plot before it is officially revealed, but I sure didn't figure this one out). Unfortunately, I can't give too much of a "review" because it would probably give away some of this remarkable story. Just read the blurb and you will get the gist.

Destiny might be a bitch, but she's also forgiving, loving, healing and beautiful.

Being a fan of Michelle’s Young Adult "The Seraphina Parrish Trilogy" where I first fell in love with her beautiful writing and the amazing fantasy world she created, when I heard that Michelle was going to be writing a new adult romance, I was really excited and anxiously awaited reading this one.

My excitement was warranted, Michelle did not disappoint with her story-telling ability and I am shouting it from the rooftops that this is a GREAT read!

I LOVED this book and the characters (HE and SHE). With HE and SHE’s great chemistry, sexual attraction, fun banter along with a quirky, fun and live-life-for-today type of attitude, I was ready to travel along with them on their journey.

One of the reasons I read is to escape the "realities" of my everyday life…. to get lost in and live in someone else’s world for a little while? (Not that my life is anything but fantastic – but we all have those days, and I love living in my book worlds). Well that is what happened in this book, but not just for me, HE + SHE got to do just that…. To live in someone else’s life for a little while. Along their journey, HE and SHE form a friendship and perfectly exist with each other while escaping their true realities.

Because the realities of their pasts, the characters both have struggles to overcome - but they choose to create this "new life" where they live for the day and are whoever they want to be. BUT, there are rules….. and sometimes rules are hard not to break.

Has destiny worked her magic and put HE + SHE into each other’s path again and again for a reason? or Is it just coincidence? Could their relationship actually work in their "real" lives?

Just when you think you know where this story is going to go…. BAM …. Michelle gives you a brilliant twist that left me with a feeling of not knowing what to think – with the exception that she is a brilliant, creative and an amazing storyteller.

Holy plot twist Batman! I did not see that coming!

If you want a change from the usual romance books, then this is the book for you. It's fresh and vibrant, and it blindsided me completely.

I loved Hew & Shea, they just 'got' each other, and they didn't push for more than the other was willing to give. I loved how they chose to let fate decide the path their relationship should take, and their willingness to accept each other at face value. What you see is what you get. They knew nothing about the other, even their names were made up. But for a few short days they had fun and were able to try and put their pasts behind them. As their connection grows, the walls they have built start to come down little by little until it culminates in a jaw dropping moment that had me exclaiming out loud, distracting my husband from the football on TV (which takes a lot of doing believe me!)
The fall out from that point onwards was utterly heart-breaking, as the full extent of past events were revealed. I hoped that they would both overcome the binds that had enveloped them for so long, and allow Hew and Shea to truly move on.

I could gush on and on about the writing style of Michelle Warren, how she weaves a beautiful story then leaves you open mouthed with shock, but I don't want to spoil what is a truly unique book.

Review by Allison

He+She is a great story with so many twists and turns I never knew what was going to happen next. It reminded me a little of Ten Tiny Breaths somewhat. It was very well written, so it always kept me guessing.

Shea has total optimism throughout the whole story and it gave me such hope for her when sometimes she seemed sad.

Hew- the hero, was much the same way, although I just knew something was going on with him as well. A pain in his past that clouded what was going on in the present.

And it always seemed like they were bumping into each other, like it was fate, they were being brought together.

Their dark pasts defined the characters, and when all is revealed it makes perfect sense.

There were things that left me super surprised! There were steamy moments, moments of angst- I think I experienced every emotion in this book that I could have.

This has been one of the better NA novels I've read this year- and although is started out a bit slow for me, it ends with a bang!

I would definitely read more from Michelle, I can't wait to see what else she has in store for her readers.

Had the privilege of reading it as a rough draft and it blew me away. Want to re-read it like yesterday. Please. Pretty please. Take your time but hurry up:)
updated 5-26: Michelle Warren is one of the most generous and genuine people I know. She is also an extremely gifted writer. Her Wanderdust time travel trilogy is totally unique as is He + She.
When I read it as a rough draft, I highlighted like crazy. I called her immediately to tell her how fantastic I thought it was.
The story line reminds me of Runaway Bride, but to say more would give away too much. SHE, the heroine, is quirky and mysterious and HE, the hero, is swoony and has his own secrets to hide.
I love the San Francisco setting. The pacing is perfect, and the writing style is like Barbara Freethy. And luckily you will be able to read it soon, too.

He+She had a good concept. With better execution it would have been like Unravel by Calia Reed (in short awesome). But there were many thing working against this. For one was the insta love. Yes we all have read that particular concept before many times but this time it simply annoyed me. In other books I somehow overlooked it. But it was impossible to do so for this one with it being flashed all the time like a neon sign.

The twist in the end though not all that predictable (atleast for me) wasn't enough for me. And at the end it just looked ridiculous . I mean there can only be so many co incidences at once.

But the worst part in the book which reduced my rating was how BORING it was in between. It tried the friends on road trip approach which didn't seem as exciting as it should have been.

So all in all this book was a bit of a disappointment.

Oh em gee. Mind = blown. Just wow wow wowie wow.

I HARDLY ever get surprised by books. I can see the twist coming from a mile away, but oh my goodness I never saw it coming. That's all I'll say about that because I'm afraid of spoiling something.

However, funny thing about talking about being in someone's vacation photos. I literally said the same thing to my husband ON the cable cars IN San Francisco like two weeks ago.

I can't hate or dislike any book that has my city as it's main setting, so bonus stars for that.

And again just O M G

I LOVED this book. I"m a fan of Michelle's writing and this most definitely didn't disappoint me. In fact, if anything i became more of a fan after reading He + She! I read it in a few days unable to put it down. I liked the carefree feeling it gave me too. I connected with the main characters and would love to read more about them. A very smooth, effortless, enjoyable read all the way through!

Wow, this book took me by surprise and a good surprise at that. Shea is a character that you can't help but like and enjoy while questioning her sanity. Hew is a broken and lovable. Together they fix each other and love each other until reality kicks in. This story is beautifully written and I would recommend.

He + She by Michelle Warren
4 stars!!

“He treats me with respect; he opens doors for me, makes me laugh, and comforts me when I cry. He owes me nothing, yet gives me everything in return.”

This is one of those books that once you start you don’t want to stop. I made the school girl error of starting this late at night and this lead to a late night/early morning reading marathon. This is a totally captivating story from start to finish, a beautiful story about two people, escaping their pasts, their paths cross and a beautiful friendship is formed. Knowingly not sharing any part of their histories, these two reinvent their pasts while trying to learn to live for the now and the future. Will what has fast become a beautiful friendship evolve into anything more or will their pasts become a deciding factor on their future?

Both characters in this book are strong, they are fun, flirty, addictive, crazy and oh so cute, yet both are broken in their own way.

Hew is escaping his past and trying to pave the way for his future, attending a job interview in a new state it is while he is on the plane that he first crosses paths with Shea. He couldn’t help but stare, something about her awakened a part of him that had been buried for a long time. Their paths cross again the next day, call it fate or destiny, whatever but these two were destined to meet.

“Every second I’m with you, I feel like a better person. You make me believe it’s possible that I can move on from every mistake I’ve ever made and live in your world.”

Shea, running away from her previous relationship, she just boards the first plane out of state. Only planning on staying a few days and then moving on her plans are derailed when she first meets Hew. Something about this man has her intrigued, even though her “flight” instinct tries to take over, she cannot help but want to stay around her new friend “Hew.”

Yes Hew and Shea are make believe names, deciding not to say anything about their pasts, during one of their crazy chats they decide to rename themselves and reinvent their pasts. Starting off their friendship with their new histories, they continually meet up and sight see and just genuinely have fun. You can see their friendship morph from “friends” to more but will they act upon it? When their real histories catch up with them will they alter their futures? Is everything really as it seems?

“For the first time since I met her, I understand her need to keep her name secret and respect that. Here, someplace other than at home, we can be who we want, be with who we want, as long as it makes us happy. There’s no past today, only this moment together, right now. I may need that as much as she does. We are exactly the same…”

This story had me laughing, the sense of humour these two have and the shenanigans they get up to will have you cracking up, the humour and wit is interwoven amongst a plot of romance, with a past of pain. A perfect blend of funny, crazy, romance and angst. You will find yourself rooting for them from the start and even when the curveballs are thrown you will be championing them even more. I was glad that their friendship was founded on a fresh clean slate, they found each other and built their foundations without the past being a deciding factor, they found the real “Hew” and “Shea.”

This was a fab NA read, as I said above I was captivated from the start and didn’t want their story to end. A great fun, romantic read.

Ich lege „He + She“ jedem wärmstens ans Herz.

This is my first Michelle Warren book and will certainly not be my last. I give total credit for reading this book because my friends Brandee and Jenn Sterling encouraged me to read it and I am SO glad that I did. This was a really enjoyable, inspirational and heart felt story of finding love in the most unexpected places.

As the blurb states, both characters are running from their pasts and fate brings them together in San Francisco where they meet and from the get go, I know in my heart that it was their destiny to meet. I LOVE their interactions - the playfulness, the laughter, their free spirit with each other. It was mesmerizing to be part of and I found myself constantly laughing out loud or smiling from their bantering.

To live life with so much fun and adventure was a treat to be a part of and I found the characters becoming embedded into my heart, I liked them immensely as they were developed so fully and completely, there was no real drama in this story and I just had a constant smile on my face.

For me, these characters though running, were always searching and running to each other. They were SO good together and provided the comfort, security and safety they needed in their lives; kind of like missing puzzle pieces - they were meant for each other.

So while I didn't know what to expect from this book, I have to say that there were some total shockers and surprises that Ms. Warren revealed to us as we continued this journey with Shea and Hew. I love when an author keeps you guessing and He + She for me, was something new and different and I truly enjoyed my experience.

If you are looking for something unexpected, with characters who are so passionate about life, and a love that will make you feel completely full of love in your heart, give He + She a try! I promise you that you will not regret it.

I look forward to reading more from this author <3

“Not complicated. Only you make it complicated. Life is simple…”

So there is this book and it's called He + She and there is just one thing you need to know about it...its a bump to the top of your "to be read" list good! I finished this book and wanted to shout from my corner of the world...READ THIS!

“I want the good minutes of the day to take over the bad in this fight, so who cares how it happens, or who I’m with as long as I cultivate smiles when urged in that direction.”

This book is different and in a world of cookie cutter literature He + She stands a head and shoulder about the rest. I went into this read blind. I didn't even read the synopsis. The book was recommended by a trustworthy friend. That's all I needed...let me be that trustworthy friend!!

“I want to hide it away from the world. God only knows how tired I am of people knowing everything about me and all the horrible details. I just want to be alone…”

Friend or foe, destiny will always ride shot gun on the road of life, helping to mold the moments that define our life. The painfully heartbreaking to the breathtakingly beautiful, every moment is our own. We make the choice to embrace the moments or to fight them.

“People aren’t just made of rainbows and sugary – sweet candy, though I wish that were the case. Half of who we are is written by our mistakes, mishaps, and imperfections.”

Breaking down this book in a few short paragraphs would ruin your personal reading experience. For fear of spoilers I will remain closed lip. These are the things I can tell you about this book; the storyline is well thought out and the character development exemplary. Michelle's writing is unspoiled allowing the readers mind to wander along as if part of the story. So final thoughts...buy it! Read it! Love it!

Everyone has a favorite movie. One that you can watch on repeat for days. That movie that everyone else will be tired of seeing, but you’ll be laughing and smiling while watching it like it’s your first time seeing it all over again.
Reading He + She was like watching a movie. Not just any movie, but my favorite. I could read this book over and over again for a month and I still wouldn’t be tired of it. In fact I have re-read it twice already.
Cute, sweet, funny, real, honest, beautiful, heart-warming, and romantic all describe this book.
This book will melt your heart. It will captivate and consume you. I started this book and didn’t stop reading it until the end. I didn’t move from my seat. My eyes never left the pages.
The writing is like magic. It grabs your attention from the start and doesn’t let go until the very last word. And you’ll be left wanting more.
The plot is refreshing. It’s like a fresh breath of air. I love books that have unexpected twists and turns. I like being surprised. There’s a twist that I never saw coming.
This book blew my socks away. It knocked the wind out of me. It made me laugh, my heart race, and it has some smoking hot scenes.
I thought that the pace of the book was wonderful. The dialogue was realistic. The characters were flawed and real.
There wasn’t anything that I disliked about this book. This is a story that sticks with you. It’s a book that you will never get tired of reading.
Nothing I say will ever give this book justice. Just read it.
