A run-of-the-mill hero meets his match in the form of a dungeon that’s not what it seems in this adventurous fantasy romance for fans of isekai LitRPG.
Kelsey never imagined she’d be transported to a different world and reborn as a sentient dungeon. And it’s not like her disembodied soul had much choice in the matter . . .
Being a small dungeon on the outskirts of town in the backwaters of an unimportant kingdom isn’t easy, but Kelsey’s done her best to level up and become the best dungeon she can Digging a hole of ever-increasing depth and complexity. Creating an undead atmosphere that would make a necromancer proud. Spawning monsters and treasure. Killing adventurers. But lately, things have gotten a bit stale.
When a hottie of an adventurer staggers into her cave, Kelsey decides to grab life by the throat. With a newly formed avatar and a deal that makes things very difficult for her heroic new companion, this dungeon is going to do exactly what she wants for the first time in, well, forever—and have the best time doing it.

I let this go waaaay too long to review. I remember most of this, but I read the whole series so I'm going to be stuck reviewing this as the series as a whole rather than this book alone. I hate when I do that.
This is kind of a Dungeon Core book, but not really. Dungeon Core generally follows a magical dungeon in a fantasy setting as it grows and develops as a challenge for adventurers. This book starts with the dungeon having already maxed out while keeping a low profile. There's a local town that has been using the semi-famous dungeon for training local folks into having decent class options on level up (yes, this is LitRPG with all the trappings). But otherwise it has been pretty low key. We begin with the dungeon finally managing to save up enough umph (i.e. development perks or something) to create itself an avatar. And it's time for that avatar to go have some fun. And since the dungeon is an isekai from our world, there's lots of fun she wants to have.
Kelsey is completely amoral, but not stupid about it. So she's happy helping people and making deals (dungeons are a little bit fey so those deals are magically enforced) and is determined to build up a power base to protect herself while she is at it. She is undead aspected, but it turns out that having a bunch of specialized skeletons researching Earth tech for a few decades can give her some big guns in negotiations with political and social entities. Literally big guns.
I found this fascinating, starting with Anton swearing himself to her service to save his life. Anton is a heroic protagonist, literally (his class has hero in the title, which has ramifications we learn along the way) and in a more typical story, he'd be center stage. And we do get his PoV enough to like and empathize with him. He's stuck with a genial sociopath out for some fun and does his best to influence her for good. And succeeds in the main. I loved this dynamic in their relationship.
Less loved is Kelsey's sex brain. She is all about getting some and she isn't even a little delayed by Alton being engaged already. Not wanting him miserable, she proposes that he learn the joys of having a harem. He's reluctant. But stuck. So really, it's a matter of... bah, you can see the outline from that I think. Add that the local heir to the barony also has a crush on him and is willing to compromise and we have a neat little foursome setup. To be fair, that's a sideline on the story, and not a huge one.
Anyway, this is a solid four stars and if I remembered it better I might have gone a full five. I definitely enjoyed it and binged the entire series and moved onto the updates on Royal Road after.
A note about Steamy: This first book doesn't actually have a ton of sex in it. None of the books really center those shenanigans but I'll break it down in case you care about the intricacies. I found it interesting that the first book's steam was entirely a sweet virgins in love exploring intimacy story. Yeah, Kelsey is present, but she plays a very minor role as mentor or coach rather than participant. This surprised me given her personality and shamelessness. The next book has a bout of kink but only has the reader present for a single scene and then contents itself with references. And the third book was very nearly chaste as the sex no longer mattered to the story. Weird. I know.
There was a potential but I didn't realize it was a harem story which isn't really my jam (except an odd reverse harem book). The first non-consensual boob grab put me off big time. The narrator was good and the writing also not awful. The magic and progression system had potential. Just didn't enjoy the tone and the harem bit.
Dungeons Just Wanna Have Fun starts out with a bang. Anton is being chased by raiders, brutally wounded, his only hope of loosing them is in the local dungeon. But when he gets there the dungeon turns on them, and as he lays on the ground breathing his last breath, a pale woman in strange clothes offers him a life saving healing potion if only he'll make a deal to show her around the outside world. Kelsey, as she prefers to be called, IS the dungeon.
The world in this book has many of the LitRPG elements. Dungeons provide experience which levels up skills and special abilities. The monsters in the dungeon drop loot when defeated and then respawn later. Only so far as being Isekai, the main character is Anton who existed already in this world, he isn't a visitor from a "real" world. We also take the point of view of Aris, Anton's betrothed. And Soliel, the daughter of the local Baron. All of these perspectives help bring the characters, and the danger their face, to life.
The action is described well but doesn't overwhelm the plot. I never really knew what was going to happen next because Kelsey the dungeon is the one who drives most of the plot and I didn't really know what he end goal was for the longest time. She's a carefree character and there's a lot of humor in this. I recommend it.
As a high level dungeon core, Kelsey finally unlocked the ability to make an avatar that can leave her own dungeon. Her goal is simple, make a deal with the local dungeon town to protect her from delvers that want to destroy her core, rather than just adventure. Plus, she can now experience the benefits of having a body and everything that entails.
I picked up this book expecting a silly or cozy dungeon core litrpg. This is not the case! This story features a dungeon core, but she acts more as a necromancer human. This is an action litrpg, that quickly turns into a spicy harem. The story was good and entertaining. Just the cover and the blurb did not hint about the spicy harem. I did read this as an ebook, so I can’t speak to the narration.
Dungeons and Dragons used to be associated with nerdy virgins playing with dice in their mother's basement. Apparently a couple of them got together and wrote a book about one of their "adventures." While the premise wasn't new, it was decently done as far as "nerd fan fiction" goes. The "virgin fan fiction" is where everything falls apart. It's like they polled 14 year old boys and asked their thought on plot points: * the male hero of the story can't decide between two amazingly beautiful woman who want him * the wild, yet still hot, newcomer talks dirty to him and makes no bones about wanting to have sex with him * all the women decide that they should share him at the same time so let the orgy begin. It was just brought the main story to a halt.
This was fun, but I honestly wasn't expecting a harem romance*. I liked the dungeon getting her own avatar and exploring the world outside. I enjoyed the twist on a dungeon avatar acting as a dungeon, with little empathy and that this is primarily told from the POV of the reluctant minion, sucked in to do the wishes of the dungeon.
All that said, the harem commentary of, "I need her help, so why don't you sleep with her and add her to your harem," gave me the icks.
This one is strange. All female characters except the dungeon are partially cardboard when anchored to harem. But the main plot is actually well written, characters are not simplistic and storytelling is better than in many other LitRPG books I've recently read.
A harem story, with some erotica. The actual story is fun, with some funny moments, and some interesting takes on utilizing a dungeons powers. There were a few moments where the characters did some things that just seemed out of place, but overall a fun world setting in general.
I unfortunately don't have a creative review for this one, but I can promise it's quite the enjoyable read, the characters are fun, Kelsey's plan is interesting and logical and the skipped years of her life as a dungeon feel truly lived and relevant.
I really enjoyed reading this. I was unappreciative of the magic system. I will say this is the most unique way I've seen a harem compiled. Extra points for creativity.
