Nicole Johnson, a beautiful Howard University MBA graduate, enters the office of Brummel Advertising Agency in Chicago to interview for a job—unaware that five generations ago, her ancestors set a course for her life that would bring her here, right now, at this very moment.Nicole sits next to another interviewee, Regina Bovine, an artistic marketer from the school of hard knocks. Without knowing their destinies have already been set out for them, they will found and become partners in an up-and-coming company, Fresh, Inc. Their work will take them to Botswana, where they will meet the brilliant brothers, Segun Bada and Sotonye. When Nicole discovers an ancient prophecy that she will be one of the destroyers of the Black race, Nicole, Regina, and the Bada brothers set out to uncover their family secrets to stop the prophecy and free their people. In the process, they learn how their lives are interlinked from generations before—and that they have a bond that will never be broken.
This story is very moving, thought-provoking and inspiring. A fiction that I could not stop reading and that made me transcend geographical boundaries without leaving my armchair. As regards the premise, it’s amazing and captivating. Family secrets and a development that spans several generations is the starting point for a book that has all the spices to make it unique. Also, there are well-developed characters, a gripping plot, descriptions and details about the settings that left me speechless. Although it is a complex story to follow because of its jumps in time, I can only recommend it because it is exquisite; with the right attention the reader will not be able to put it down.
It is an exciting book that takes you to these fantastic places. The author's writing star is immersive, and you can feel the vibe of Botswana, New Orleans, and other areas. The book takes you on the metaphysical aspects of life as well. For me, the protagonist is torn between science and folklore. It is interesting how the author presented these ideas seamlessly. I recommend a better book cover to embody this wonderful story. The way the story unfolds for the protagonist is mystical. The chapters are short enough to capture the reader's attention, and the pacing of this story is excellent; once I picked it up, I could finish it as I anticipated quickly, chapter after chapter.
