The second book in the Moonlight Trilogy. Perfect for fans of 'Witches of East End.' Simon Howard accidentally killed three people. Four months later, the nightmares won't stop. Willa Fairfield, his girlfriend, his soul mate, wants nothing more than to help him move on. But guilt isn't the only thing getting in Simon's way. When unexplained earthquakes hit the small town of Twelve Acres and dozens of people go missing, the Light witches discover their most feared enemy, Archard, is still alive. Employing the twisted, dynamic magic of a legendary witch known as Bartholomew the Dark, Archard plans to exact his revenge and take control of the Powers of the Earth on the night of the black moon, a rare lunar event infamous for Dark magic. As the Light Covenant fumbles to defend against Archard's sadistic intentions, Simon's magic grows inexplicably more powerful--even dangerous. Willa throws all her efforts into solving the mystery of Simon's transformation, but when the events of the past storm into the present, the couple's future changes forever.

Entertaining sequel. I enjoyed the jumps between past and present, it allowed the author to explain events and characters well. The ending was shocking and a great set up to the next book. Full review coming September 17th to both blogs.
I was surprised by this book. I thought I knew where things were heading but was pleasantly surprised that my suspicions were wrong. I am very interested in reading the next book.
Disclosure: I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
The Basics:
After the events of Blood Moon, Simon is forced to face the dangerous depths of his powers. Last time he saved his Covenant by killing their enemies, but as his strength grows, it becomes clear that he poses a threat to his friends too. His struggle to control and accept his magic begins to interfere with his training to become a True Witch, and with his relationships with the Covenant and even his soul mate, Willa. The light witches’ victory against Archard's dark coven was only temporary, and as he again gathers his forces against Willa and Simon's light Covenant, Simon's magic may be the only thing strong enough to save them.
The Downside:
If that summary sounds like the series has changed protagonists, well, don't let the large POV sections still devoted to Willa fool you, she has very little to do this time around other than worry about Simon and act as motivation for his increasingly fickle angst. The size of the Covenant also continues to make it difficult to attach to many individual characters.
The Upside:
...is incredibly difficult to describe, because you simply have to stick around for the twist. All that fickle angst is leading to a great big payoff. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy fresh glimpses of Twelve Acres’ mysterious magical history, our soul mate couple’s first true relationship challenges, the refreshingly normal parents of our New Adult heroine, and a return to The Moonlight Trilogy’s distinct, immersive contemporary fantasy atmosphere, sprinkled with dark flecks of surprising bite.
Teri Harman’s Black Moon, book two of the Moonlight Trilogy, continues the story of Willa and Simon, young adults taking those first steps into a grown-up world of magic, witches, soul mates, trials, and too many talents. It’s a fast-paced and engrossing read that expresses all the confusion of perfect love that isn’t perfect, leaving home to share one’s life with another, completing magic trials to prove one’s worth, and, oh, saving the world.
I won’t mention the guilt Simon oozes because of the deaths in Blood Moon (book one) or Willa’s anguish in wanting to save someone who won’t let her in. I won’t say a thing about the balance of light covens and dark covens and how truly twisted the dark can be when it seeks to control the powers of the earth on the night of the black moon. And I can’t tell you about the whole terrifying plot around being extraordinarily gifted magically and the suspicion and doubt having too much talent can cause. I can’t tell you any of these things because that would Ruin the Story.
And this is one you’ll want to read for yourself.
Black Moon by Teri Harman is a New Adult paranormal thriller with a romance twist sure to delight readers 16 and older.
A beautifully written witch tale with twists and turns that you won't see coming, but will make you want to come back for more (and hold your breath until the next book!)
I loved the relationship between Willa and Simon - it's not perfect, even though they are soul mates, which I think makes it believable. The sacrifices they are willing to make for each other are endearing.
I think the best part of the book for me was the beautiful writing. Normally too many metaphors and descriptions bug me because I want to get into story, but not with this book. The descriptions pulled me into this world of magic and wonder.
The scenes with Bartholomew the Dark and Archard are layered with a thick film of darkness and mystery. I'm not normally a fan of the dark and twisted, but because the other scenes with Willa and Simon had so much light, I felt there was a perfect balance.
I'm excited to see more from Teri Harman and can't wait to see the ending this this witchy tale.
Rating: PG-13 (some gore, murders) **Robin-approved for teens**
This second book in the series amps up the action and the darkness factor. The focus is on Simon and Willa as they find their place in the new Covenant of Light Witches and discover through training and instinct how to use their powers. Simon cannot resolve his feelings of guilt and fear with these new unpredictable powers he possesses, and it is straining his relationship with Willa and those around him. But there is still something much darker that is at work here and the tension builds with each chapter. I liked the backstory info that gives more depth to the characters and their motivations. There are plenty of twists and turns in the plot to keep you reading and a great cliffhanger ending!
This is defiantly the middle of a trilogy where the bad guys are getting the upper hand and boy are they bad guys bad. I liked this book. I think her descriptions are really great, visual & fun to read. I had a problem with the good witches this time. I was just frustrated with their seeming inaction the entire book. There was a lot of gathering and staring out the windows, meaningful looks, & lots of questions with no answers. I wanted them to use their magic more. I just felt like there was more they should have been able to do. I will read the next one, I've enjoyed the series so far. It will be interesting to see how she wraps it up.

In this second installment of The Moonlight Trilogy by Teri Harman, we step back into the lives of Willa and Simon. This time around, the story is darker and the magic is bigger. Teri's elegant writing style carries us through the angst and missteps among the college-age characters as Simon tries to come to terms with his past actions as well as his unusual gifts. The end of this novel was simply spectacular and it came with a twist that left me wishing the next book in the trilogy was already available.
The first book was OK, but this second book was incredible and thrilling. The story was fast-paced and exciting, the characters were well defined and the threads from multiple time periods was enthralling. The end was chilling and I can't wait to see what happens in the third book.
