I've written six novels, including the bestselling The School Run, and The Wedding Party, which was nominated for Love Story of the Year by the Romantic Novelists Association.
Chaotic, frustrating, and funny just like (some) school runs can be. The story was mostly a lighthearted reading, though the latter chapters unexpectedly turned a bit dark and serious.
I rated the book 2.5 rounded up to 3. Although entertaining, the story was being told from multiple perspectives (parents and caregivers), and I kept forgetting the families’ backstories and whose children belong to whom. The last few pages in each chapter were always a jumble of random dialogues happening in different families and I found them confusing (not sure if it’s an ebook thing or just the author’s intentional style).
The idea of the book is so fun. But the reality is that it’s so hard to follow and very confusing. I also don’t get the British words that aren’t American English-which adds to the confusion. Even though the story followed a few different families, it could have flowed so much better had it been formatted differently. I had no idea who was talking half the time.
What a lovely book lots of characters going through the school run reading how they deal with that and their lives I like the way the different chapters go through the day and what each characters are up to. I would throughly recommend this book
The confusion was the story didn’t always have paragraphs or indentations. All of a sudden you’re reading about a different character. Chaotic just like the title suggests.
No spoilers: The confusing part is there are times that all of the people will be talking, in their own lives but it’s bunched together, not separated by chapters or names. For me, it was hard to keep up with who’s who.
