Étienne Méténier is a priest of the Community of the Beatitudes. A Doctor of Theology and a researcher in biblical studies, he is the principal contributor for the Syriac language in the “The Bible in its Traditions” project of the French Biblical and Archaeological School of Jerusalem. He translated and commented on the highly acclaimed Vetus Syra version of the four Gospels , which won the 2025 SLLR Prize for Religious Literature (Bible category).
Early Career: Before becoming a priest, he worked as a financial expert and served as an officer in the French Navy commandos.
Missionary Work: His life as a religious brother involved missions across the Middle East, Africa, and Oceania before he settled into his current scholarly work in biblical sciences.
