Demon Debacles #2

My Demon Manny

Rate this book
Demons made great mannies. I'd know, I had one...

When I hired Calux to be my son's caretaker, I didn't think there was anything strange about him. On the contrary, he was perfect.

Calux was good at his job, and my son Gunner seemed to like him. The fact that he was a man also helped since it meant no pesky feelings would get between him and his job.

Or so I'd thought.

When Calux told me he was a demon and I was his fated mate...everything changed.

My plan had been to stay single and raise my son, at least until he was a little bit older, but when Fate intervened, I found myself falling in love in spite of all my best intentions.

My Demon Manny is an MM demon x human romance featuring a human single dad who realizes he might not be straight after all, a sweet demon who loves taking care of people, and a six-month-old baby boy who isn't at all afraid of his big, demon manny. Full of sweetness and low angst fun, My Demon Manny is book 2 in the Demon Debacles series but can be read as a standalone.

A sucker for a demon

What can I say? I am a sucker for a big scary demon teddy bear. The human loved his demon just as he was and of course there was human, demon sexy fun time. Nothing beats a Demon getting rammed by human. I loved it.

Special Guest, ;) Gunner: Human, 6 months, Archer’s son, black curls & blue eyes, good judge of character

My Notes:
Sweet! Calux was definitely a sweetheart. The scene with Sabre at 85% broke my heart for them, I neeeddddded it and this book has me hoping the next MC is Jerry (at the moment it isn’t named who the MCs are but it’s a demon assistant!). This one had a little more spice in the first even with half the love interests, but we did get a couple fumbles with names accidentally switched around. It only happened a couple times and didn’t pull me out of the fun. LOVE how Kat’s story came out in the end LOL. Also, when Jerry came over for dinner and dropped the bomb that Archer , are we just going to glance over that?? Uhm, I need deets?? A true Stella Rainbow, love!

Not exactly my cup of tea.

I had certain expectations going into this, so I set myself up for failure.

While this is a story featuring demons, it’s really not all that relevant other than adding a little something else to the character texture and backdrop.

This is purely a romance story between a nanny and his boss.

While cute, my expectations led me to disappointment because I was expecting an urban fantasy/paranormal plot of some kind.

Nope.

Just a plain ol’ romance novel.

But again, it’s certainly very cute, especially because the demon nanny is so adorable and enthusiastic about his job.

Be warned, this also isn’t a true bi-awakening story. Archer has sampled the rainbow before. That also lended to my disappointment since it’s one of my favorite troupes.

Also, I didn’t appreciate the inclusion of the fae baby. Wtf was that for!? Set me up with expectations but then missed the target. It contributed absolutely nothing to anything other than increasing the word count.

My Demon Manny is the second book in the Demon Dabacles series and can be read as a standalone. However, it probably would be beneficial to read the prequel to this series (Summoning Chaos) and the first book (My Demon Roommates).

This book was such a sweet read, I’ve read over 30 books the last two weeks and disliked most of them so this was just what I needed!

I loved the characters so much. Archer is an amazing single dad to Gunner, who is such a cute and expressive baby. He loves Gunner so much, but needs a nanny to be able to still run his own business with his friends.

Lux is a sweet and caring demon who adores these two. Lux has always been a gentle demon so is really happy to not be in the demon realm anymore. He’s always wanted to work with children (something that was impossible in the demon realm) so applies to be a nanny to Gunner. I adored these three and how Stella Rainbow portrayed their relationships with each other.

I really liked how there was no unnecessary drama in this book, like how Gunner’s mother wasn’t a bad person or a threat to their relationship.

My only negative is that I didn’t feel the chemistry between Archer and Calux to begin with, but their relationship developed over time in way that felt natural and right for them.

Overall, this book is fairly low angst and quite easy to follow. Like the first book, the plot is mainly focused on the characters and their developing relationship. If you can, definitely check out the bonus epilogue as well.

This book contains sensitive material such as

5/5 Demon baby wraps

Fated mates, forced proximity, Bisexuality acceptance and precious BB bringing two people together.
This was such a cute and heartwarming book to read. This is book 2 from the Demon Debacles series. I reviewed My Demon Roommates an MMMM romance before this. So book 2 slides right into place after book 1 really well.
We get to see the guys from book 1 come in to help with the task of finding dark souls. We get to uncover a bit more of what the dark souls are trying to accomplish, without giving too much away.

But of course I main focus is on the fated mates pair of Lux & Archer. This is def a slow burn even though the attraction is 100% there. With a Single dad trope it's pretty typical that the dad wants to put their child first always, but it's hard to fight the desire of a fated mate.

These two are such a good match and on the same page almost the entire time. There is no miscommunication here. They are true blue partners in life and parenting. The found family really makes your heart warm when you realize that demons in Stella's universe aren't as evil as the stories say. They were given a second chance to make things right by helping collect dark souls and potentially finding their mates.

Stella sets us up for book 3 of the series perfectly with one of Archer's friend's finding their mate at a dinner Lux hosts and helps lead us into book 3. Because you can't have a trio of friends and only 2 find their fated mate right???!

Overall, the story was really good. Low drama, no angst and just all growing love. It was def a different atmosphere then other books, but I think that just adds to the series and the universe more honestly.

If you love sweet romance, a dash of action, found family, fated mates, low/ no angst and cameos from previous or future characters then Stella's books are for you. They are overall softer in tone, but sometimes you just need something sweet before another type of read.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book and it has all the sweetness that I’ve come to expect from one of Stella Rainbow’s stories. I thought it was a good start to the Demon Debacles Series. This book is connected to Stella’s Otherworld books it can be read as a standalone but you’ll get more enjoyment out of the book if you know the inner workings of the world that Stella has created. This is fated mates story between Archer (human) & Calux aka Lux (demon). I thought that Archer and Lux were great together and their chemistry was off the charts. I thought that Archer took finding out about demons very well with only a minor freak out which is completely understandable as when Lux shifted into his true form.

Lux was closer to Gunnar than Archer was but as soon as he realised that Lux was still Lux no matter what form he was in he calmed down. Lux was so good to Archer and his son Gunnar from the get go. I’m glad that fate matched them together so now Lux has the family he’s always wanted. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series, My Demon Assistant when it’s released later this year and I’m really happy that Archer’s best friend and business partner Jerry finds his own mate so he can be let in on the supernatural world, as Archer and Jerry’s ex Kat also found her own mate. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

******I received a slightly early copy of this book because I’m a member of Stella’s Patreon. I happily reviewed this book and I would do so even if I purchased it. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******

4/5 This is a sweet, low-angst cosy paranormal story. I enjoyed how antithetical Luc is to most commonly portrayed versions of demons. He’s fascinated by children, and he wants to care for them and make their lives better for no reason other than because he can. I liked how dedicated he was to actually getting the certifications and learning how to care for children properly. His protective and caregiving instincts are top notch.

My detailed-oriented brain got a little sidetracked occasionally by wishing a few more details had been clarified about the way the role actually worked: as far as I could tell, Lux worked seven days a week, 24/7 when he was working as a nanny, cooking, cleaning, and caring for the baby (and Archer) at all hours of the day and night. And when he stopped working as a nanny, there was no discussion in the book about finances, he just stops paid employment, gives up his apartment, and keeps doing all the same work for Archer for free. (This is less of an issue with a demon who doesn’t need money, and maybe they talked about off page, but I would have appreciated some discussion on page.) I believed it would all turn out all right because this is a romance where they end up together, but RL wouldn’t quite leave me, lol.

Otherwise, I quite liked Lux and Archer together. Their care for one another and Gunner is obvious in every scene. I enjoyed seeing how they figured out how to make a life together. It was nice to see the folks from the previous book, I’m laughing at how fast Fressia moves. I’m looking forward to seeing Jerry finding his own demon next!

I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Something you can expect with Stella's book is the absolute cuteness of the characters and the couples. Lux was fabulous, but he was so adorable when he was spending time with little Gunner. Let's talk about Gunner, shall we? The story does revolve mostly around him, after all! He's adorable! For him being a baby, a couple months old baby at that, he had such a vibrant personality that was so endearing.

Archer's character was great too. You could really tell he was a dedicated dad who cared deeply about his son's well-being. He only wants the best for him.

My one critique is about the pacing... While the relationship did develop smoothly it happened early on in the story, leaving a large amount of the story left that was basically filler. That's my only negative.

Archer and Lux's relationship developed naturally and overtime. While there is a fated mates aspect it's more of an undertone then the main focused. Which I thought was handled quite nicely. There wasn't any insta-lust or insta-love which again, I enjoyed. I'm looking forward to reading Jerry's story once it comes out, his character is fascinating!

Archer never expected hiring a male nanny for his son would lead to anything more than reliable childcare. But Calux isn’t just good with Gunner—he’s perfect. Calm, capable, and unexpectedly charming, Calux seems too good to be true… until he reveals he’s a demon, and Archer is his fated mate. Determined to stay single and focus on fatherhood, Archer resists the pull of destiny. Yet as Calux becomes an irreplaceable part of their lives, Archer finds himself falling—despite every plan to keep his heart guarded.

This was a sweet story as baby Gunner was definitely the star of the story. It was also a story of found family, supernatural fate, and the kind of love that sneaks in when you least expect it. There was some danger and drama as part of their story but thankfully Lux handled it as effortlessly as looking after Gunner. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

This is the third book in the Demon Debacles series (technically the second,) and I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the others. The first half of the book felt like one long stream of details and repeats - small example here:

Gunner seemed happy with his chew toy, and I took the moment to grab a sandwich, taking a large bite as Lux sat down on the other end of the couch. Taking a sandwich, Lux bit into it, then groaned happily as he chewed.

We get it, guys - you both eat sandwiches and take bites out of them. Congratulations.

It wasn't terrible, and I liked the others, so I'm still going to continue with My Demon Assistant.

Better than the first

There is a random conflict that comes out of nowhere and leads nowhere, and the "dark souls" plot inches forward in a very unsatisfying way, but at least there's some relationship conflict in this story.

The human protagonist identified as straight at the beginning of the story, didn't want a romantic relationship, and didn't want to compromise his boss/employee relationship with Lux.

I mostly enjoyed the story as a bit of fluff, but I'm not sure I'll read the next one. The demons are too powerful, yet utterly useless at what they're supposed to be doing on Earth. It annoys me.

Demon who loves kids gets a job as a nanny for a single guy whose one-night-stand left him with the baby. Turns out they are fated mates and Lux has to explain that he's a demon and won't hurt the baby. There is a very short interlude about the overarching plot as to why the demons are on earth (searching for the escaped dark souls) and an odd side-tangent about a fae baby who was going to be a changeling that they stopped, but ... It was fine. It's very light and easy with no real conflict even after Lux reveals himself and the fact that the dad was "straight-ish".

I'm enjoying this series so much! Lux & Archer's story is a heaping helping of domestic bliss - eventually - with all the sweet & savory fixings to go with it. Loved all the demony magic & shenanigans; the swoony moments between the MCs as their romance grew; the demony side-plot; and of course, I loved Gunner & Lux & Archer as a unit. There was heat, fun, family, humor, sass, & all the sweetness one could handle. I loved reading it & can't wait to see how Jerry's book plays out!

This was such a cute book. I loved baby gunny and how much Archer and Lux loved him! It was a very low angst book, which I loved. The overall plot about the bad souls and the demon mammon was talked about a little, I wish we would of had just a little more on them. Overall though it was a cute read, that I will go back for again in the future!

Calux and Archer are so sweet together. Their love story is wonderfully written and incorporates all the things I love about fated mates. This is a low angst, fated mates, boss/employee story that I think you will love. It might help to have read My Demon Roommates first, but I believe you can read this book just fine on it’s own.

Fantastic!

Calux loves babies! Who doesn't love a big strong demon who just melts for babies?! So of course his fated mate would have a baby for Calux to cuddle.
Calux and Archer make a fantastic couple and the perfect parents for baby Gunner. This was a very enjoyable read filled with cute babies, big strong demons, and a loving father. Low angst sweet read.

This series is very entertaining and this book is an excellent read. I loved everything about it. The slow burn romance mixed with the demon reveal had me anxious for a minute but I'm glad everything works out to make them a stronger couple. I love everything Stella writes! I'm very pleased with this HEA.

This was a really cute book. Was it the best she’s ever written… no, but it was fluffy sweet and had a fun overall storyline. The drama buildup was like a whimper to me as I was expecting a little more from this book.

Demons aren't all bad.

This was a different story from what I normally read. The demon aspect throws me off because I think of the bad. Overall, the story was good. It just takes a little getting used to.

Two guys falling in love. There’s nothing else in this book. I kept expecting that something would happen and nothing, absolutely nothing happened.
The fae baby they watched for a few days? I still don’t know the reason for that since nothing happened. The baby was returned to his parents and that’s the end.
The bad souls and bad demon they are supposed to look for? Also no idea other than a small scene where we are not told what happened to all the dead people.
The misogynistic thinking of hiring a male nanny so he wouldn’t be tempted by a young woman living at his house was terrible. We are better off without having to read this bullshit.

My Demon Manny is the second book in the Demon Debacles series and has all the sweetness of a Stella Rainbow book. Calux is a great character and he and Archer make the perfect pair. The book was well written, with just enough steam, and a fun read overall.
