Broken Hearts by Claire Raye

4/5 stars

Broken Heart is my first book by the duo Claire Raye and I really enjoyed this beauty of a story!

In this book we follow Sage and Nate. Sage lives in New York and gets a call in the middle of the night. A young woman called Alana tells her her father Mitch has passed away and that the memorial is in three weeks time.
Sage hasn't talked to her father in years. He and her mother had a fling in Maui but were never together. She grew up with her mother and kept her distance from her father. But now her mother encourages her to go there early, and see where her father lived and get to know as much as she can about his life.

When she arrives in Maui she meets Alana and Nate. They both work at her father's surf shop. And Nate wants nothing to do with her. He is pissed at Mitch that he never told him that he had a daughter. Mitch was like a father to him and saved him by taking him into his home and giving him a job. Alana instantly likes Sage and they hit it off.

And that is what this story is about. It's about three young people who deal differently with the loss of Mitch and it's about forming friendships and falling in love.
I love the beachy vibes and I could almost feel the sun shine on my own face. I love how without being overly descriptive the island was portrayed. It really added to the vibrancy of the book.

The book also deals with the guilt that Sage carries. For not reaching out to her father. And it's about Nate's traumatic past being in foster homes as he grew up.

But mostly it's a beautiful, sweet and loving love story. This book has such a mellow and easy going vibe. I really loved that.

I did wish there was a little more depth in the story. I wish that we learned more about Mitch's past. Or about how Mitch and Sage's mom met more detailed. I liked the spice, but the spice felt really sweet. I wish it had a bit more fire in it.

But all in all a fantastic book. 4 huge stars from me for this beauty! I am really looking forward to the second installment in this series.

quite a few good tropes but sadly didn't work for me. h goes to Hawaii after getting a call about death of her father who she is not close with. h's mother had a fling that resulted in h and since she didn't really have a relationship w him, h didn't either. She spent her time with her mom in cities while her father stayed on the island.

after going there she meets the girl who called her along with H and they both work there. h's father took both in and raised them like his kids. H hates her immediately who because her father never actually spoke about her or told him about her and he thinks she'll sell the surf shop.

since the whole book skirts on parental loss and her father, mitch is mentioned from start to finish, here are the few thing i struggled with - why is maintaining a healthy relationship with her father solely on h's shoulders. everyone, i do mean literally everyone is on h that she wasn't there for him. H openly blames her and is a major asshole for more than half the book.

shouldn't adults be responsible for reaching out to their young kids and not vice versa ? i mean the last time she saw mitch, she was 12. he never told H about his kid even though he was basically raising him for the past 9 years. the other girl knows about h only cause that man blurted out one day when drunk. he even forbade another of his friend who knew, from talking about h. H monologue for most of the book is about how he has more right to mourn him than h which i absolutely hated

and he was giving me whiplash with how he hates her one minute but wants her the next. i love a good push pull but my god, he keeps lashing out on her and it wasn't a least bit sexy lol. i didn't really ship their relationship, it was bland and boring. spice was alright ig. in terms of safety- both non virgins, he isn't a manhoe and no mention of ow/om.

obv all this is just personal take, it can still be a good read, just not for me

4.5/5✨
3/5🌶️

I got the chance to read the latest book written by my dears Claire Raye.💗 Thank you so much for this copy!🤗

Sage finds out that her father just passed away. She didn't have the closest relationship with him, because he was just a fling for her mother in their younger years, from which she was conceived. Her parents remained on good terms, but they lived in different parts of the globe: Sage and her mom lived in New York and her dad in Maui, Hawaii.

After the tragic news, Sage was invited to his funeral and to spend a few weeks in the place where her father lived. There, her first meeting is with someone dear to her dad, who works at his shop. His name is Nate and he makes quite an impression on Sage, being great for the eye. But looks weren't enough to win her over and they didn't have a pretty good start.

This book is focused on the sad part of life, but in that place this doesn't mean all needed to be black and bleak. The island vibes were the ones they followed and it was really beautiful that they celebrated his life, not mourned him. His death brought some question marks about his belongings and some small arguments between Nate and Sage, but everything will be sorted out in the end.

Even though the main subject is not the happiest, there are reasons to be cheerful while reading this book. Love is that thing which heals a broken heart and that's what that island is full of. The locals have a wonderful bound and everyone felt the absence of Sage's dad, being very close to him and everything he succeed to do in his life.

This story had summer vibes, but it can be read anytime, no matter the season. It was sweet, sad, fun and steamy. It's perfect for when you need a book to relax and get to experience a bit that vacation feeling.

God, I loved this. I devoured it. It was emotional, funny, spicy, and just so good. Sage getting a phone call she never was expecting to get throws her into a whole different world. It also brings her into Nate’s which he’s made very clear he doesn’t want. While they learn to navigate the truth and feelings around everything they also get to know one another, while sharing a common interest. Their journey is a bit rough, but it’s honestly beautiful, and it becomes so much more than either were expecting. The whole found family feel of this new series absolutely has me immediately ready for more.

“This is what happens when you love someone. You stay. I will be here when you’re angry and when you’re sad, when you’re happy and when you come home from surfing and want to tell me about every little detail. I want to take care of you and wake up next to you and make you breakfast and hold your hand and experience every second of life with you.”

Smut: 🌶️🌶️

When Sage receives an unexpected phone call from Hawaii, her life is turned upside down. She returns to a place that hasn’t felt like home in 10 years, but she finds belonging and so much more on the island of Maui.

Broken Hearts is a feel-good romance about a New York City girlie and a Hawaiian surfer boy who turn to each other while grieving. They find comfort and understanding in one another, at a time when they need it the most.
I absolutely loved these two together, especially since Sage was such a perfect match for Nate. She didn’t back down when his trauma had him pushing her away and that’s exactly what I love to see in my romance reads. Healthy communication over third act breakups/miscommunication, any day!

I also absolutely loved the setting that was highlighted throughout this book. It’s not hard to see why Sage fell so hard and so quick for this little island and for Nate Peterson. & the smut scene at the waterfall? umm👀 i’ll never look at waterfalls the same way again 🥵

I was expecting more depth to this book, however. Given Nate’s traumatic upbringing and Sage’s rocky relationship with her father, I thought we’d dive into their backstories a bit more. I also found it hard to believe that Nate would fall so quickly for someone given all that he’d been through. The authors did however do a great job of addressing the insta-love vibes through the inner dialogues of the characters, so it was more a me thing.

Overall, I loved these characters and the way future books were set up and the surfing aspects were such a nice touch!

If you love:
🌊 Hawaii surfer vibes
🌊 City girl x island boy
🌊 Tragic past
🌊 Dual pov
🌊 Outdoor smut scenes

Then this one is for you✨

Big thank you to Claire & Raye for reaching out and trusting me with their work♥️

ARC review: Broken Hearts by Claire Raye
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this book, such a great feel good romance — and that setting 😍 Now I just want to go on holiday to Hawaii and learn to surf rather than hibernating under heated blankets in rainy Wales!

I love that these two found each other through their grief and were able to help each other through it. Two very different people with a common tie who are completely right for each other.

Not going to lie, I cried a little at the end. I love the Hawaiian approach to death, how the life is celebrated and not mourned. The memorial service was beautiful and I really liked that Sage got out on the board. Her dad would have been proud.

✨✨✨✨

Sage Harris never had much of a relationship with her father, but an unexpected phone call changes everything. Returning to Hawaii, a place she hasn’t been in ten years, forces her to confront a past she’s avoided for so long.

Yeaaaah, so.. I had to dnf this bc honestly I couldn't empathize with Sage, the FMC.

I know some would say that maintaining a relationship takes an effort on both ways and that her father as the adult should've tried harder... The thing is... he did tried, she was the one who didn't want anything to do with her father and I understand that as a teenager her having to travel to spend time with her dad could be perceived as an inconvenience it doesn't excuse she was just being a brat and a bitch when she was with him, and at least she accepts she's a brat and a spoiled girl.

I read a review saying Mitch should've keep trying and honestly I think he did, after she stopped taking her calls he still kept tabs of what was happening in her life even when she didn't wanted to have a relationship with him. I can't emphasize with her now BC I don't think the rest of the book says like a real reason why she cut him off. What I've read so far, she lacks of personality, doesn't add something relevant and really falls into only being "Mitch's daughter" a lot which she says she hates but she shows no other significant trait.

Nate and the rest of the people who appears on the story are great, they make you feel part of their circle and connect with them but for me it wasn't enough to finish this one.

this was my first book by claire raye and i loved it!

sage gets an unexpected call that her father, who she didn't have much of a relationship with, suddenly died and invited her to the memorial. sage had always wanted her dad to choose her but as she grew up, she never thought she was enough and basically cut him out of her life. when her mom pushes her to go, to learn more about him and to get the closure she needs, she heads off to hawaii.

nate was like a pseudo son to sage's father. he never gave up on nate and pushed nate to be better than his life had given him. when sage shows up, a daughter he never knew existed, he was angry and took it out on her.

sage and nate had this bond, even if it came from a dark place, and both had to work through their grief. sage carries so much guilt and nate had a past that played into his sense of abandonment.

this was a really beautiful story and i honestly couldn't put it down. i loved the ease of a relationship that sage and nate eventually fell into and how their love for each other helped heal their broken hearts.

Nothing like an ohana coming together to celebrate someone they love.

Sage doesn't have a relationship with her father, Mitch while Mitch is the father Nate never had.

This book's focus is the loss of a beloved character - it is the true embodiment of those coming together and celebrating.

Sage is able to see the life Mitch lived and Nate is able to find love despite his fear of abandonment.

This book screams summer vibes but as you can tell by when we're writing this review, you can read it at any time! It was a quick read that helped me get out of a reading slump. Can't wait to read the next one!

Thank you Claire Raye for the advanced gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

I am obsessed with this book! The emotions that were weaved through this story were intense. Like I was caught crying-intense. It really touched my heart. The main plot is sad, but the entire storyline around the tragic event of Sage’s father dying is so amazing. Claire Raye took a sad event and showed the upside to things. I loved that!

I enjoyed the strong knit community. I loved the tension between Sage and Nate. I liked the peeks of sentimental times. Overall it was a feel-good book! The story took place in Hawaii, so who can be mad at that? I think this would be a great summer/vacation read, but I still loved it while reading it from home, work, and the doctor’s office in the fall. 😆

As a lover of the film Blue Crush, I couldn't wait to dive into this book.

Sage and Nate meet due to the loss of Sage's father, who Nate was very close to and looked up to.

Sage is from New York and goes to Hawaii, where her father lived to attend his funeral, where she falls in love with the life her dad had there. Her dad was a much loved member of the community there who loved to surf.

Nate comes from a heartbreaking background, and Mitch (sages dad) took him under his wing.

What I loved most about this book is the traditions for Hawaii and the surfers there. I loved how they all came together for the funeral doing a surf out, placing flowers into the sea. This moment really pulled at my heart strings and was beautifully written.

I can not wait to read how Alana gets on with Maui Pipe!

I absolutely love and adore that this book opens with a Lilo & Stitch quote.
These two definitely have quite the rocky start but it was also obvious that there was some chemistry.
I think watching people slowly become more comfortable and open up to one another is a really beautiful thing and will always be one of my favourite things to read.
However, I just was not vibing with the more steamy scenes in this book. They did not feel quite authentic.

Hawthorn Hills crew step aside! There’s a new Claire Raye series that at the top of my favourites list 🥵

I never expected to love Broken Hearts as much as I did. I’m not an into the surfing scene but I love Claire Raye books and couldn’t not give it a go. I’m sure glad I did 🥹

I was laughing, gasping, bawling my eyes out. It was a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I loved every moment of it.

I loved every moment of this story. These characters had captivated me from the moment I started reading. The found family of this crew brought such a sense of belonging. I could not put it down and was sad when the final pages came to a close. I’m happy to know we will be back in Hawaii soon.

The dynamic between Sage and Nate is wonderful. Their attraction was high from the moment they set eyes on each other, but all that did was increase the tension they felt, even a little anger and resentment -especially on Nate’s part. They had a bit of a rocky start, and were definitely not friends, but they couldn’t resist falling into that. They had such sweet flirty banter, mixed in with emotional moments, and a comfort that had me hanging on every word of their story. It was fantastic watching them fall for one another.

This one sure packed in the emotions and I loved every bit of it. Their journey was not always easy but the dynamic they shared was great. I loved how their genuine connection changed and grew deeper as the book went on.
These two truly had such a beautiful story. I was right there along side them as they learned so much about themselves, each other and all the things they experienced individually. My heart cracked more than once, but was mended back together perfectly. Seeing Sage and Nate tap into their pasts and what they’d been through was amazing, how everything that happened up to that point brought them to where they were, together.

It was heartbreaking, sweet and beyond special. I cried, more than once, laughed, swooned and loved the spice. It left my heart full and itching for the next book that was teased!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

This book is perfect for you if you love:
🏖️ Forced Proximity
🏖️ Found Family
🏖️ (Emotional) Hurt/Comfort
🏖️ He Falls First

When Sage receives an unexpected phone call in the middle of the night, she immediately books a plane to Hawaii even though she hasn’t visited in ten years. With the intention of confronting her past, Sage’s plans are quickly thrown off track upon meeting Nate, who would do anything to send her right back to New York. With circumstances continuously tossing them together, Nate and Sage learn that they may have more in common than they expected.

While 90% of me is sitting around chanting “autumn, autumn, autumn, autumn…” the other 10% of me is still desperately clutching onto summer, and this book perfectly satisfied that 10%. 🏝️

This book was such an emotional roller coaster, in the best way. It will have you laughing, smiling, and crying - both happy and sad tears. It hooks you from the very first page and holds you the entire way through.

Sage and Nate are so incredibly cute together. I love how they fit together so perfectly and can understand how the other is feeling and why - even after their rocky start. Their patience and support for one another had me genuinely crying happy tears.

The side characters were also amazing. I love the giant family dynamic with everyone. Chapters 25-27 had me absolutely sobbing with how sweet and welcoming everyone was. I can’t wait to see more of everyone as the series goes on. Very excited about the next book’s couple as well. 👀

Thank you so much to Claire Raye for the opportunity to ARC read this wonderful book. I’m so excited for the rest of the series. All thoughts are my own. 🩵

I recently finished Broken Hearts by Claire Raye, and I have to say, it was a captivating read that kept me hooked from start to finish. This new adult romance beautifully explores the complexities of love and heartbreak, and I found myself deeply invested in the characters' journeys.

One of the things I loved most about this book was the character development. The protagonists felt incredibly real, with relatable struggles that made me root for them throughout their emotional ups and downs. Their chemistry built gradually, which made their connection feel authentic and satisfying. I appreciated how Raye took her time with their relationship, allowing the tension to build naturally rather than rushing into things.

The writing style is another highlight for me. Claire Raye has a knack for descriptive prose that really brings the scenes to life. I could vividly picture the settings and feel the emotions the characters were experiencing. There were moments of joy and heartache that resonated with me, making it easy to connect with their stories.

That said, I did feel that some parts of the plot could have used a bit more tension or conflict to keep the momentum going. While I enjoyed the familiar tropes, there were times when I wished for a bit more originality in certain story elements.

Overall, I would give Broken Hearts a solid four-star rating. It’s a delightful read for anyone who loves slow-burn romances filled with emotional depth. Claire Raye has crafted a story that not only entertains but also touches on personal growth and healing, making it a fantastic addition to my bookshelf. If you're looking for a heartfelt romance, I highly recommend giving this one a try!

Get ready to dive into this emotional rollercoaster of a read that’s got me swooning, tearing up, and desperately wanting to book a flight to Maui! 🌺🏄‍♂️

Broken Hearts by serves up the perfect storm of grief, unexpected connections, and summer heat.

And oh, the sparks? 🌶️ Enough to set the Pacific on fire! 🔥

Hearts by Claire Raye

I absolutely love these ladies they are my go to for the all the feels books! They rock at the emotional gutted moments and they excel in the steamy, spicy, swoony moments! This book encompasses it all! Sage and Nate chefs kiss. The two of them are reeling at the loss of a man that passes. To Sage it’s her estranged father and to Nate it’s the dad figure that never gave up on him. It definitely hit me a bit different and harder this read. My dad is not in my life by his choice and I definitely feel how she feels at the whys and what ifs. I really loved this story. They start off as well on Nate’s side as dislike to like and the way the story enfolded kept me captivated.

The way these two began to lean on each other was beautiful. I definitely felt that the book lends to the sadness that we all experience at some point in our lives and how much when there is loss we along with grieving we need to live and not regret. I really loved the found family and deep community bond they all have. Mitch the dad kind of reminded me with how the people who knew him spoke about him. I imagine him standing on the calm shore and him throwing a stone out and each ripple is a life he touched. He showed his love, affection, and caring in his own way, unfortunately Sage missed out on that but I feel like she was able to heal with the people who knew him best.

On top of the heavier topics it has a great summer vibe and it’s really a great read for anytime but I loved the island vibes!

I loved this book so much. The authors Claire and Raye are unbelievably talented authors, and I love the books that they produce together. Each one has been better than the last but equally all amazing. Their books are so easy to get into and love, which makes them so much better.

Broken Hearts really does start off like the name suggests. We have Sage who finds out that her father who she has not seen or spoken to in years died in a surfing accident and from the moment she is told she has this feeling that she needs to go to the island that her dad lived on. There she meets Nate who is not very friendly to her at first when they meet but it seems that over time the two characters start to connect and their lives continue on not how they pictured when they met each other.

This story brought so many emotions along with it that I did not expect to feel when reading. This book had so many layers to it, and the character development that we get in this book is amazing in particular with Nate, but after hearing his backstory, you will understand why he is the way he is.

The quality of writing in this book is top tier, to say the least. I loved every second of it, and the book just flowed so easily in the plot. I believe in this book it shows that in loss, friendships and love can be found when least expected. The authors did an amazing job with this book, and all I wanted was more between our characters, Nate and Sage, but I know we will see them soon in the next book of the series.

Broken Hearts by Claire Ray is the first book in the Hibiscus Hearts series. This was such a heartfelt story about two people who come together from shared grief.

Sage hasn't seen or spoken to her father in years when she receives a call that shatters her world. Her father has passed away. She has a lot of hurt and guilt to deal with. Her mom encourages her to go to Hawaii and learn more about her father.

Nate has worked at Mitch's surf shop since he was sixteen. They've bonded over the years, and Nate always saw him as a father figure. He was hurt by his passing, but even more so when he learns Mitch has a daughter, a daughter he never told him about.

When Sage shows up on the island unexpectedly, Mitch is taken back by her beauty. He soon realizes who she is, and let's just say he isn't too happy.

I loved that their shared pain brought them together, and they were able to heal together. You get to see the beauty of Hawaii and the surfers' tradition of saying goodbye to a loved one after they've passed. I loved that for Sage and her growth in discovering a part of herself that was missing. This book was so good and set up the series perfectly! I would definitely recommend this story to fans of the film Blue Crush.

After an unexpected call, Sage finds herself returning to Hawaii, mourning the loss of a father that she hasn't spoken to in years and confronting her guilt of it. Once on the island she comes to know the people who knew and loved her dad throughout the years. I loved how everyone really welcomed Sage to the island and to their little found family. I feel like thats just what she needed.

Nate instantly disliked Sage for coming back after all these years of no contact with her dad and thinking that she is going to change everything and sell his home and safe place. I really liked watching these two come to terms with everything and slowly open up. They were both filled with grief and overtime they realized that they could lean on each other in times of sorrow and along the way, they slowly fell in love.

This was an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish! It will have you all in your feels and wanting to hug your family a little tighter. I'm excited to see what else is in store for this series.

This book takes place in Hawaii and it made me want to drop everything and head to the islands!

This book follows Sage and Nate. Sage is woken in the middle of the night to learn that her estranged father, Mitch, has died in a surfing accident. With the encouragement of her mother, she travels to the island to spend some time with his friends and to get to know her father. Nate works with Mitch in his surf shop, Mitch took Nate in as a kid and was like a father to Nate, he had no idea Mitch had a daughter and is not pleased to learn this information.

Despite a rocky beginning, Nate and Sage slowly start to realize they are both grieving the loss of Mitch. They start spending time together, Nate introducing Sage to Mitch’s friends and his life in Hawaii. And Sage becomes a safe place for Nate to express his grief.

I really liked Sage’s journey through this book, she had a lot of guilt because of the estrangement with her father but was able to get to know him through his friends. I loved the found family and how they all accepted Sage. I also liked Nate’s journey. He had been through so much and didn’t trust easily, I liked seeing him let his walls down for Sage.

This book had a mix of heavy moments with some lighter, fun moments, mixed with some spice 🥵. The setting is so dreamy and I wish I could be in the surf shop with these characters.

Sage was never close to her father, with him living in Hawaii and her in New York, but a surprise phone call has her life spiraling. Nate works at the local surf shop in Maui, and loves the life he has created for himself. When Sage finally decides to go to Hawaii to get answers about her father, Nate greets her with much less than a happy welcome.

Nate is on a quest to help keep his boss’s surf shop open, and prevent it from being sold off to the next highest bidder. When Sage enters his world, he realizes that she may just be able to help him. Forced to work together, will Nate and Sage get along well enough for both of them to get what they want?

I devoured this book in 5 hours. I could not put it down. This book had me both laughing and crying along with the characters. The way the characters started to pull back the layers of each other day by day and slowly got into the gritty parts of their lives with each other really pulled me in. These two were both going through so much grief and in the end they really found each other and lifted each other up. The side characters in this book also made it have a found family feel, which is something I am always looking for in what I read.

Thank you so much to the authors for this ARC! :)

Sage is about to start her last semester of school, when she gets a phone call. Seeing it’s from Hawaii, she answers. Finding out her estranged father passed away in a surfing accident, she plans to go to Hawaii for the memorial. Planning to stay for 3 weeks to find her father in the place he loved.

Nate is devastated that the man who took him in as a teen and he looked up to as a father passed away. When a beautiful blonde shows up, he’s intrigued until she states she’s Mitch’s daughter. He’s pissed. He’s known Mitch for about 8 years and he had no clue he had a daughter.

Nate is a total jerk to Sage. Sage just wants to find peace and facts about her father. She pushed him away for her whole life because she felt he loved the island and not her. Over the 3 weeks she finds out how wrong she was. Her father was a big part of the community and had a heart of gold. Nate also realizes he’s upset by the situation and not Sage. They have deep conversations and a great chemistry. Nate is worried Sage will sell the property of her father’s beach store. Sage likes the offer she got for the land but she also realizes the land is the story of her father.

City girl meets island boy & they fall in love.

Sage lives in NY and gets a call that her dad passed away (he lives in Hawaii) and they are doing a memorial for him. She decides to go even though her and her dad are no longer close. Guilt she’s going to have to deal with now.

Nate works and helps run Sages dad surf shop, all while not knowing Sage even existed. He instantly doesn’t like her and thinks she’s going to sell the land, take the money and run.

This story focused a lot on grief and was so beautifully written. Sages dad was like a father to Nate, who had no other family. He took him in, taught him how to surf and set him on the right path. Sage dealt with cutting off her father for the few couple of years but tried to find peace in the island.

Enemies to lovers is one of my fav tropes. I do wish these two “hated” each other longer but I understand why Alana stepped in and forced Nate to be nice to her!

I really did love this one and I cannot wait for Alana’s story next. She seems like such a badass!

Thank you to Claire Raye of the ARC of this one. All thoughts and opinions are my own!

I absolutely loved Sage and Nate's story. Had me hooked right from the beginning. My emotions were all over the place with this one.

Sage learns through a phone call that her father passed away. She didn't have a relationship with him at all and hadn't seen him in ten years. Even though it was hard for here, she went to Hawaii where her dad had lived to be there for his memorial and to hopefully learn some things about him.

Nate lived and worked at The Pipe Dream which was Mitch's shop (Sage's Dad) and had bern there for nine years. Mitch took Nate in when he realized Nate had a hard time not having a family. Mitch was like a father to him so when he learns Mitch had a daughter that was never mentioned, he was angry. He took it out on Sage at first.

You could definitely feel the attraction to each other even if Nate was a jerk at first. I love the sude characters too. Alana is the best. Sage learns the land The Pipe Dream is on is worth a lot of money and could be helpful for her, but she is also seeing what it means to the locals and also about Ohana. Will Sage and Nate be able to come together and decide what is best?? Read this book to find out!

Nate and Sage’s story is beautiful, it is emotional, and it is healing. Going into this story I was not expecting it to be what it was…and trust me, I am not complaining. I loved EVERY SINGLE MOMENT of this story. I laughed, I cried, I smiled. I fell in love with these characters.

From the moment Nate and Sage meet there is a physical attraction, however, both of them have walls up and they don’t necessarily get off on the right foot. But they both lean on each other and become a form of support and healing that they both needed. I love seeing how easily accepted Sage is into this family, even after some apprehension from Nate in the beginning. They gave her a connection to a part of her life that was in the past.

I can’t wait for more of this series and this family that has formed. Not only have I fallen in love with Nate, Sage, and Pipe Dreams, but I have fallen in love with all these characters and I can’t wait for their stories.

If you’re looking for a found family, he falls first, slow burn romance check this one out.

𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 is the first book in the Hibiscus Hearts series by Claire Raye, featuring an angsty and emotional enemies to friends to lovers romance for Nate and Sage. She really built a relationship with her father who lived far away in Hawaii. When an unexpected phone call from a stranger turned her world upside down, she found herself heading back to the island to confront memories, regrets, grief, and surprises. Sage and Nate definitely did not get off on the right foot. He initially saw her as a threat with the potential to destroy a central component of the community and the livelihood of many. As the days pass, though, they find common ground and an unexplainable connection and chemistry. Will Sage’s plan for the future destroy it all?

I was immediately sucked in by these compelling characters and the heart-wrenching emotions flowing through the story. I was touched by the multi-layered grief and guilt that Sage was struggling with, as well as Nate’s unique backstory and perspective that gave him certain insecurities. I loved the Hawaiian component, and the way the culture was so beautifully woven into the story. The “ceremonies” had me crying, yet the found family vibe throughout the book was fabulous! There were funny moments, sweet moments, and so many spicy hot scenes, too! I cannot wait to return to the island for more of this series!

I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book is going to make you want to pack your bags and move to Hawaii!! It’s so good!

Sage has just learned that her father passed away but she’s conflicted with how to feel over the loss. She grew up in New York and her father is from Hawaii so she wasn’t close to him. Nate is a Hawaiian local who was very close to Sages father has worked for him for years. When Sage comes to Hawaii for her fathers funeral she meets Nate and he isn’t happy to see her especially since he didn’t know she existed until the moment she shows up. These two unexpectedly find themselves navigating their grief together.

I really liked both of these characters and seeing both of their perspectives while navigating the loss. Sage is navigating regret and guilt over not spending more time with her father. Nate is navigating the loss of not having someone in his life that he’s used to seeing everyday so you see multiple ways of dealing with grief and I love how these two come together and help each other through their grief.
