When your friend writes a book, you eagerly scoop it up!
I like some of her music, but I will formally apologize to Taylor’s followers as I am sure they know everything about her, but I did learn something new about her in these pages.
I loved flipping through the beautifully illustrated pages. Quick, fun read for little Swifties everywhere!!
Cute! The drawings were really good and it was pretty detailed. Sad that the Taylor swift books for children never mention her friends but happy they don’t mention her boyfriends as if that’s all she is or that’s what her career is reduced to.
This sweet picture book biography covers Swift's life for the youngest fans, and would make a great gift for superfans who wants to share their love of this artist with children! We see young Taylor riding horses, making up stories, writing songs, and moving with her family to Nashville so that she can pursue her career in music. It briefly discusses some of the challenges that she faced, and how she overcame them with her tenacity and devotion to her purpose. Her close relationship with her fans, and the hidden contents of her songs is coveed briefly, as is her social activism. I particularly liked finding out that Ms. Swift uses even glitter, quill, or fountain pens to write down her lyrics.
The pictures are rendered in a realistic style that is great for a biography of a modern person, and are created digitally. The palette is very pastel, with lots of lilac, green, pink and soft blue, which help the illustrations of Ms. Swift really pop, especially in the montage of her glittery stage costumes. There aren't a lot of words on each page, making this a good choice for read alouds.
There are no shortage of picture books about this pop music icon, and I highly recommend buying at least one for an avid fan, even if they are teens and don't read picture books as much as they used to. I would have loved to have a picture book from the 1960s about the Beatles to have read with my children when they were growing up! Consider this title along with Burk's The Story of Taylor Swift, Loggia's Taylor Swift: A Little Golden Book Biography, Odd and Catrinella's You Are Fearless: A Book for the Littlest Taylor Swift Fans, Michaels and Burrows' Love Is Taylor Swift, or Nhin's Taylor Swift: A Kid’s Book About Being Authentically Yourself (Mini Movers and Shakers).
Wainer’s biography is a glowing ode to Taylor Swift. The book is neither sponsored by nor affiliated with Taylor Swift.
Wainer starts with Swift's early childhood in Pennsylvania. She includes singers that influenced Swift. The emphasis is on Swift’s love of writing, singing and performing. When her family moved to Nashville, Swift was “discovered” and quickly became a star. The book gushes over Swift’s feelings, causes, and accomplishments. Wainer doesn’t go into Swift’s love life or anything that could be considered negative.
Stone’s pastel illustrations are lovely and very “girlie”. This book will appeal to Swift’s younger fans.
It will be popular with elementary girls. I do suggest it for schools and public libraries needing a Swift biography for younger readers.
I have to admit that I really should know more about Taylor Swift (TS) just from a sociological perspective. I have listened to some of her music; my friends tell me that I really need to listen to more to truly understand why she has had such an impact on pop culture. TS story is told in this lavishly illustrated book that I am sure will appeal to her younger fans.
It's cute, mostly for the art, but the actual lines are super flat and mostly just full of song-title puns. They don't really tell a biography of Taylor Swift. She's a singer and started at a young age. That's all the story there is in here. But again, I did love the artwork!
We really enjoyed this biography of our favorite Taylor! There was lots of song references and my 5 year old picked up those. Would be good for a tiny swiftie
