She gently opens the woman’s tightly clenched fist, uncurling each finger to reveal a square of folded paper hidden in her palm. Scrawled in thick crayon, beside a child’s crooked drawing of a red flower, is one word that sends a shiver through the evening mist: HELP
It was supposed to be a routine road accident recovery, but the moment Detective Josie Quinn sees the passenger—pale and painfully thin, a sharp tool lodged in her stomach—it’s clear she was the victim of something far more sinister, and likely dead before the crash. Watching the driver taken away in an ambulance, questions spin through Josie’s mind. Where were these two women going? Was the driver trying to save a life, or hide a body? And—most heartbreaking of all—is there a child in danger, crying out for help with no reply?
Josie quickly identifies the crash survivor as Mira Summers, a singleton and animal-lover on her way home from nearby stables. Mira swears she doesn’t know who the woman in the car beside her is, or how she was injured. And when she’s diagnosed with concussion and memory loss, Josie is forced to back down.
But the discovery of Mira’s prints on the child’s drawing is all the proof Josie needs that Mira knows more than she’s letting on, and a witness saw Mira meeting with a man with a gnarled diamond-shaped tattoo at the stables. In a race against the clock to track down this elusive man, Josie faces danger from the most unexpected places. Pushed to her limit, can she stay alive long enough to catch the killer and save the life of an innocent child?
An absolutely gripping and truly unputdownable crime thriller that will have you racing through pages until the final jaw-dropping twist hits you like a train. From an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, and perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

Josie Quinn is back in one of my favorite series of all time! 🥰📚🎉 As with the other books in the series, this book was gripping, shocking, and hard to put down! I love the Denton police team, except for one new officer who comes off like nails on a chalkboard. One of the strengths of this book, besides their detective work, is the relationships between the characters and their support for each other. Plus, the character development of Josie and those in her life from the first book in the series to now, has been wonderful.
In this book, Noah and Josie are discussing their decision to make a life changing step, when Josie receives a call which brings her to the scene of an accident. But was it an accident? When Josie surveys the scene and the wounds on the women in the car, she knows there is more going on and that this if far from being a simple car accident. When she sees a child's drawing in the hand of one of the victims, Josie's is determined to get to the bottom of things. Fearing a child may be missing or may have come to harm, kicks her into high gear as she throws herself into the case.
As the investigation progresses, Josie and her team come up against a mountain of secrets and lies. There are quite a few people in this book who do not want their secrets to be known and are willing to do whatever it takes to keep Josie from learning the truth!
There was a nice amount of tension, suspense, and danger in this book to keep me turning the pages wanting more, more, more. I love trying to figure out whodunit and was not even close to figuring out whodunit in this book.
I enjoyed the blending of Josie's personal and work life in this book. I also enjoy her relationship with Noah, and her relationship with her fellow detectives. I love how Josie has her work family and her personal family who all support her. Except, one new member of the team had me cringing and booing and hissing at him each time he referred to his female co-workers as 'Sweetheart' UGH!
I look forward to reading future books in the series. Maybe, just maybe Josie and Noah will get some much needed cooking lessons in the next book!
**This was a fantastic buddy read with Carolyn, DeAnn and Dorie, please see their terrific reviews to get their thoughts on the book!
4.5 stars
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Detective Josie Quinn was called to a road traffic accident, even though she was on a day off, but it was anything but routine. One fatality, and one badly injured driver. And it was obvious to everyone the injuries weren't caused by the accident. Trying to interview the driver, Mira, at the hospital, Josie was frustrated at her lack of cooperation. And when Mira suddenly disappeared, Josie and her colleagues knew there was so much more to this case.
A child's drawing with HELP on the back; a woman who'd been missing for over a year; a police officer who'd been missing for three years; and the brother of a person of interest keeping secrets. And that wasn't all. The frustrations of Josie, Gretchen, Noah and the chief kept them working long hours and gradually, slowly, pieces began to make sense. But would they be able to find the child who'd scrawled HELP on the piece of paper? Or the other missing person? They were desperate...
Her Dying Secret is the 20th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and it was another riveting addition to this completely addictive series. Turner was an absolute pain and earned the nickname Gretchen gave him - Jackass! As usual though, Josie, Gretchen and Noah jelled perfectly, each knowing what the other was thinking. I'm loving this series and feel it's important to start from the beginning. Highly recommended.
With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
It’s no secret how much I adore this series and its unforgettable characters. With every book, my love for them just grows deeper—seriously, this series and I are a match made in book heaven! If you haven’t picked up a single book from this story yet, what are you even waiting for? You’re missing out on something truly magical!
As with every book in this series, it was a buddy read with my favorite witches from the Witches Words group. They all feel the same way about this series.
I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley
"Her Dying Secret" by Lisa Regan had me absolutely hooked right from the start! I mean, seriously, every time I crack open a Detective Josie Quinn book, I'm simultaneously excited and nervous about what's going down in Denton. And let me tell you, this one didn't disappoint!
From the very first page, I was completely sucked in. The evolution of Josie's character throughout the series? Mind-blowing! She's been through so much growth, heartache, and drama, and it's all so unputdownable. And her empathy for the victims? Major props!
But let's talk about Josie's squad for a minute. They're not just colleagues; they're basically like family, and I love how they've all evolved since the first book. But okay, let's dish about the new guy, Detective Kyle Turner. Ugh, talk about frustrating! He's all arrogant and rude, and don't even get me started on his inappropriate behavior. But it definitely adds some drama to the mix!
Now, the mystery in this one? It's off the charts! So many suspects, so little evidence. I was guessing until the very end. And Lisa Regan's writing? It flows beautifully, pulling readers deeper into the mystery with each turn of the page. Seriously, I couldn't put it down!
"Her Dying Secret" is a total page-turner that'll have you glued to your seat. Can't wait for the next one! Lisa Regan just keeps knocking it out of the park with each book, and I'm here for it!
I am so behind on reviews and behind on catching up with all my Goodreads friend's latest reads and reviews, so I'll keep this and my next ones a bit short. Sorry for the MIA - work is chaotic.
I always look forward to the Josie Quinn drops and this one didn't disappoint. It was mysterious and gripping from the very start. Particular concerns about whether a child is involved in a murder and where one female victim had been for several months.
A good whodunnit with strong women, and definitely a strong police procedural. A lot of the usual, good banter and love every time my favourite book doggo, Blue, features.
I really enjoy Lisa Regan'sJosie Quinn novels. Regan almost always succeeds in crafting intricate plots and compelling characters. After the previous instalment’s short departure from Josie’s usual haunts, I wondered where “Her Dying Secret” would take us. Thankfully, it is firmly set in the familiar world of Josie Quinn and her friends and colleagues in Denton.
As for her friends, most of them are absent: Misty and her son, Harris, are mentioned a few times but play no role. The same is true for her parents and her twin sister, which is slightly sad but doesn’t detract much from the novel’s overall appeal.
Regan’s prose continues to channel an atmosphere thick with suspense and emotional tension. This is especially the case since the story opens with a car accident, the body of a murdered woman in the car, and a child in danger.
A recurring issue in Regan's works, however, is the narrative ending way before the book’s actual last page. This time, it’s at 88%, and the remainder of the book are advertisements and excerpts. One can’t help but feel a bit short-changed, which leads to the subtraction of one star.
All in all, if you like Josie Quinn, you’ll certainly get your “fix” out of this one. It can also be read standalone but it’s certainly not the best starting point for this series.
This is the twentieth in the Detective Josie Quinn series and I have read all of them. Needless to say, I like this series and look forward to each new installment. Typically, I stay up late to finish each one because I can’t put them down! Josie has an interesting backstory and the author does a good job filling in that information so that these books do work as standalones.
In this case, Josie is called out to what turns out to be not a routine traffic accident fatality. The deceased, a passenger in the car, was stabbed prior to the accident and she clutches a child’s drawing in her hand, with the word “help” written on the back. The driver, who claims she remembers nothing about what led up to the accident, also shows signs of having been attacked. With the possibility of a child at risk, Josie and her team work diligently to uncover the mystery and find the child.
I always enjoy revisiting the repeating characters in Josie’s life…except for a character introduced in the last book, a new member of Josie’s team (I’m waiting for him to have his comeuppance!) Despite having had many travails in her life, Josie is a strong, capable, likable, although vulnerable, female protagonist. The fast paced mysterious plot has twists and turns; I spent the first half of the book wondering what the heck was going on it was so baffling.
If you like well written, character driver police procedurals/thrillers, check out this book/series.
Detective Josie Quinn was confused when she was called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident. But it soon became clear that the two women in the car didn't receive their injuries from a car wreck. Both women have stab wounds. The driver of the car, Mira Summers, has been taken to the hospital for surgery. Her passenger is dead, an awl sticking out of her stomach. She has no identification. In her hand is a child's drawing with the word "HELP" scrawled on the back of the page. Josie and her team need to learn the identity of the dead woman in order to search for a child who may be in danger.
This was a solid entry into the Josie Quinn series. Josie and the other detectives quickly become aware of a suspect. Now they just have to find him and figure out his motive. I enjoyed the mystery and the twists and turns as the story unraveled. I also enjoyed the addition of a new detective to the team. He really doesn't mesh with the team. This should give future stories an added element as the detectives work together on the cases. My rating: 4 Stars.
Her Dying Secret is the twentieth book in the Detective Josie Quinn series by best-selling American author, Lisa Regan. Josie and Noah are preparing their home study for adoption when Josie is called out to a traffic accident where it becomes apparent that one of the casualties, a passenger, was dead before the collision. The driver, Mira Summers bears stab wounds to her arms, claims to have no memory of the accident and denies knowing the passenger.
The unidentified passenger is emaciated, shoeless and with stained clothing, hair roughly hacked, and with a tool impaled into her groin. In her hand, a child’s drawing and the word “HELP”. When she is eventually identified, it turns out she’s been missing for a year. How she came to be in the car, where she has been held and by whom are mysteries. But it’s the possibility that a child might be in danger that worries Josie even more.
Tracking the car’s journey back reveals that Mira had recently been at Tranquil Trails, a horse-riding anxiety therapy centre, which points the Denton PD towards a man loosely associated with the place, but it turns out that a number of people who might know his whereabouts are determined to protect this likely perpetrator.
With few leads and information only slowly trickling in, Josie spends time speculating, grasping at straws to try to understand what has happened to the two women and where the child might be. Not helping her state of mind is their newest team member, Detective Kyle Turner, whose attitude belies his effectiveness, and who apparently delights in intentionally irritating his colleagues.
As well as kidnapping, a conspiracy theorist, some tangled relationships, and several twists and turns, this instalment has a dramatic hostage stand-off involving a knife and guns. It does drag in places and is a bit repetitive, with a rather rushed resolution, but the developments in the protagonists’ lives hold the reader’s interest. An addictive series. This unbiased review is from an uncorrected proof copy provided by NetGalley and Bookouture
Josie & gang are back for their 20th investigation. When a simple traffic accident ends up being more than simple, & a murder occurs, the ride begins. Everything is more than it seems with this one. Plus, the gang is not getting along with their new coworker, Turner. And, on top of that, Josie and Noah are trying to expand their family. Lots going one, but flow’s easily. Another good installment.
Her Dying Secret is book 20 in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. The book can be read as a standalone if you've never read any in the series. This book had me guessing until the very end. Josie is called to the scene of a car accident because it's a bit unusual. The driver has hit her head and is being taken away in the ambulance while the passenger is dead in the car. The weird thing is the passenger has a sharp object sticking out of her stomach. She's been stabbed and was most likely dead before the accident. The passinger is pale and emaciated as if she's been through something horrific and for quite awhile.
Josie has to find out what the driver knows. Was she trying to save the passenger? Was she the one that stabbed the passenger? Where were they headed? As the medical examiner arrives on the scene, she and Josie look carefully at the victim. They find a piece of paper folded small into the palm of her hand. The paper has a red flower drawn on it and one word, HELP. It's obviously the work of a child. Is there a missing child that Josie needs to find? Where could she have gotten this paper and why was it squeezed tight in her fist? Josie needs answers so she heads to the hospital. Mira, the survivor has a bad concussion, but is just badly bruised otherwise. The bad news is she has no idea who the passenger is or why she was in her car! She can't remember much. Josie's got her work cut out for her yet again! Nothing is ever easy.
When the prints come back on the paper drawing, they are Mira's prints. That means she knows more than she's saying or she really does have memory loss due to the accident. Josie finds out that Mira was at a local stable before the accident, riding a horse to help with her anxiety. It's a program run by a local psychologist who now does this to help people. One of the other riders at the stable saw Mira talking to a man by the produce stand at the end of the driveway, close to the road. He was driving a white box truck and has a distinctive tattoo that the man describes to Josie.
Will Josie be able to find the man? When she finds the truck, will she find the man? Why would anyone want to hurt these women? Will Josie be able to find the child before the man hurts them? Whose child is it? This case is complicated and to make matters worse Josie and Noah are getting ready for a visit to see if they're good candidates to adopt a child. They've been waiting for this chance a long time and don't want to blow it. Will Josie be able to close the case in time to make a good showing with the person evaluating them to be parents? As usual, Lisa Regan has done it again! This book was fantastic and I rate it 4 stars with a high recommendation. If you've never read a Josie Quinn book this is a good one to start with and if you have, well you know the ride you're in for! Her Dying Secret comes out on May 14 so don't miss it! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of Her Dying Secret in exchange for a fair review. #HerDyingSecret
Another great installment to the Detective Josie Quinn series. This is a suspenseful thriller that keeps the page turning for more. As always with this author, great writing with an interesting plot. Obviously there's more than meets the eye with the newest member to the team. There's got to be a story with why the Captain added him to the team. I for one would not put up with a co-worker calling me 'Sweetheart'.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Lisa Regan for an ARC of 'Her Dying Secret'.
Detective Josie Quinn has been enjoying some time off, especially as she and her husband Noah Fraley are in the process of preparing their home for something very special. However, she is called into work and heads to the site of a car crash. Upon arriving, Josie quickly realizes that this was no simple car accident. Josie can tell right away that the victim, Mira Summers, had been attacked. Fortunately, Mira is still alive, but evidence of the car accident and the attack soon tells Josie that much more is going on.
Finding a note at the accident, despite Mira’s apparent loss of memory, or at least proof that she is holding back, tells Josie that far more is going on. Also, Mira was not alone in the car, and she claims no knowledge of the other female passenger. Josie wants answers and there is a killer afoot. When Josie’s immediate investigation reveals that the safety and life of an innocent child just might be up to her, she works feverishly hard.
What tension! From learning about Mira. From learning about the other woman that was in the car. From learning that there is a child that must be found. So many cards in play and so many players. Just about any one of the suspects that Josie interviews could indeed be guilty, and this kept me on my very toes. Meanwhile, Josie and her team are still reeling from the loss of one of their own, and with the new addition to their team, Turner, things are not going well. In fact, Turner upsets the apple cart more than once. As if getting adjusted to Turner is not only affecting Josie, she and Noah have that very important visit that Josie was called away from that weighs heavily on her mind.
I can’t wait to see if Josie and Noah’s dreams will come true, as well as to see how the team continues to deal with their growing pains. I am sure that I am not the first one to say that it is absolutely unbelievable that Her Dying Secret is the twentieth book in an amazing series. This well-written series remains fresh and inviting. Josie and Noah are amazing characters and it should be interesting to see where things go next in this series.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
This book was really fast-paced and the character building was amazing. It was a gripping crime thriller with jaw-dropping twists.
I read this book in one sitting and just couldn’t put it down. I liked how the characters cared about each other - like this is not just a job but they are actual friends who know each other personally and support each other when needed.
I also loved how Detective Josie had her own personal life and the story showed how hard it can be to manage your work and home and also, how great it is to be supported by your partner, who in this case was her husband Lieutenant Noah.
Overall, it is an unputdownable, fast-paced thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
This was my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. It is the twentieth book of the Detective Josie Quinn series, but can be read as a standalone. If you've never read a Josie Quinn book, then this is a good one to start with.
This book is perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine. I highly recommend it if you love police procedural thrillers.
Thank you so much Bookouture, Netgalley and Lisa Regan for this ARC copy!
Her Dying Secret is the 20th book in this excellent procedural thriller series. On a routine call to a car accident, Detective Josie Quinn discovers both the driver and the passenger could be keeping dangerous secrets, and a child's life may depend on Josie figuring out what those secrets are. Josie and her husband, Lt. Noah Frawley both work for the Denton, Pennsylvania Police Department. They work well together and with Detective Gretchen Palmer. Unfortunately, a new detective is so hard to work with, he is often an obstacle to getting anything done. Kyle Turner is not a good fit for this otherwise cohesive team, and I hope he either shapes up in future books or moves on somewhere else!
The case is unusual but is fast-paced and engaging. There are several twists and turns to make the story more interesting, but the ending is a little abrupt. This series has so many intriguing plots, but what I like most is how much the main characters care about each other, which helps me to care about them. This book works fine as a standalone, but you will want to go back and catch up on prior books once you meet Josie and her team.
I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Bookouture, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.
Every single time I open a Detective Josie Quinn book and step into Denton I’m simultaneously sucked in and scared about what I am going to find. Let’s be real it’s a wild place to live. 😉
This book was no different. From the start I was hooked. The evolution of Josie truly blows my mind. Her growth, heartache, doubts, drama…all of it is truly unputdownable and then you add in murder and mayhem and man what a read. I’ll be honest and say that I’m still feeling the loss of a certain character still. And that surprises me because I was never attached to him. But the dynamic of the loss is palpable and the replacement makes me want to scream. So as usual Lisa Regan nails it. Because she makes you feel all the feels with how she makes us love and hate certain characters. I also want to say that every single book I love Noah just a wee bit more.
I don’t do spoilers…I’m more about the feels. I will say that my mind kept saying who else was involved and as usual I was way off. And I love the way Josie’s mind works and how she is like a dog with a bone. I also love that those around her know this and accept it.
If you love crime thrillers and character development that is truly epic. This series is a MUST READ. Every single book is an escape and you can’t put them down…book 20 y’all. 20 books in a series and I’m still genuinely hooked.I can’t wait to see what is next. If you are a fan of Lisa Gardner, Karen Slaughter, Isabella Maldonado to name a few then add Lisa Regan to your list. Because she is a powerhouse in this genre.
Josie is back in Denton but a car crash produces one body and a host of questions that have very elusive answers. Josie and Noah’s quest to become parents is a marginal story line but some exciting news toward that endeavor does occur. I found the mystery compelling and loved all the intricacies of the story that I never saw coming. I love when Josie homes in on something and usually that leads to major case breakthroughs. As for for the pain in the rear Turner, yes he provides the irritation foil but I was ready to dump him in the river along with his phone and his energy drinks. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy.
I've read all of the Josie Quinn books and continue to love them. I'm invested in the characters and enjoy police procedural and how Josie works with her team to solve crime. There is a new detective on the team and the conflicts and tension with him are bound to bring more story angles in the next books in this series. Thank you to the publisher, Lisa Regan, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review an advanced copy of book 20 in this series.
In this twentieth book of the series, detective Josie Quinn may just have her most baffling case ever—a car crash with two women, one dead and one seriously injured. Closer inspection finds them with stab wounds from a sharp object. When they find a child’s drawing folded up in the dead woman’s hand, the mystery gets deeper and more complex.
As Josie tries to balance her personal and professional lives, a new twist appears in the form of Detective Kyle Turner, an obnoxious smart mouth whose work ethic can’t be trusted.
This one keeps you guessing till the last page. Write faster Lisa!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another brilliant crime thriller in one of my favourite series. Josie is called out to a road accident but when she gets there it’s clear the passenger had died before the collision, due to the sharp implement lodged in her stomach. The driver is taken to hospital but is suffering from memory loss, so Josie is up against it. With the discovery of a child’s drawing, Josie knows there’s a child involved somehow and is desperate to find them. With a suspect identified, Josie and the team try and track him down but with others trying to protect him, he’s difficult to find. This is a gripping crime thriller that I really enjoyed. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Yowser! This was one shocking and riveting read! I never saw that ending coming. I am always amazed when reading this series how Lisa Regan continues to keep the stories so fresh. I am never disappointed reading a Josie Quinn book. They are excellent.
Safe Love Noah and Josie I hope they get to adopt Noah has gotten so sexy! I love him for Josie The stories keep getting g better Wish that Josie got more mental health help
Why did it not surprise me the author had written another nail biting book? I suppose it's because this is an thumb and finger licking series and thus, as per usual, this story has you hooked once you start reading the first page.
I love the differences between Josie in work mode and Josie at home mode. She certainly is no domestic princess, but she is the queen once she enters the police station. She makes me smile with her clumsiness in the kitchen and makes me admire her with her expertise in crime solving.
The whole team is very lovable except for one person. It made me smile that Josie or Gretchen often had the same replies I would have given that person when giving some of their remarks. It was like we read each other's minds. ;)
There was another thing that did not change: me not guessing who the culprit was. :)
There is only one thing left for me to add: I cannot wait to devour the next installment. 5 stars
Well, Well, Well Lisa you have done it again!!! Yet another absolute mind blowing page turner!!! I don't know how on Earth you manage to get better and better every time especially when I already LOVE your books but you absolutely blow it out of the water each and every single time!!!!
The storyline was very fast paced, absolutely nerve-racking and heart racing and kept me consistently on the edge of my seat. I was biting my nails and turning the pages until I finished it in one sitting. Lisa's fantastic evocative writing skills ensures you are sucked deep into the storyline with the events and atmosphere coming to life around you along with the larger than life characters. I have no idea how the amazing Lisa can create 20 books in a series and continue to make my heart pound and come up with unique crime scenes and situations every single time while getting better and better but she absolutely smashes it each and every time!!!! This book is ram packed with drama, murder, tension, red herrings, suspense, action, romance, abuse, secrets and absolutely everything you could ever ask for in a page tuner!! This book has everything and more that you want in a crime thriller. It is unique and realistic as well as being fast paced. There was constantly something happening and it left me questioning myself throughout the book. It was soo tense throughout the book and my heart was absolutely pounding, I don't think there's much left of my nails now either lol!!! It is also an emotional rollercoaster ride that will have you flying through the pages from beginning to end. This is one of those fantastic books that I promise myself that i will just finish one more chapter and then definitely go to bed. Alas, Lisa just would not allow me to do this as each and every time a chapter ended it left in a way that I just had to find out what was going to happen next. This continued throughout the book until, before I knew it, I had completely devoured the book in one sitting several hours later and THAT ladies and gentleman is a true sign of a blooming good author!!! I was absolutely mind blown by the twists and would never have seen that one coming in a million years!! I also never did guess who was involved so a huge congratulations Lisa!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you had me hook, line and sinker!!! I cannot wait to get my hands on all previous and future books of yours!!!
Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!!
I absolutely loved meeting all the characters again and it really felt like I was meeting up with old friends I have got to know them so well in each and every book and it seems that every time I pick up one of these fantastic books I learn at least one more thing about each of them. they have genuinely grown on me like friends and each time I come to the end of any of Lisa's books I am absolutely devastated that I have to say goodbye to them and wait untile the next extraordinary addition to this addictive series comes out. Please, please tell me I wont be waiting too long Lisa!! I miss them already and I have only just closed the book!! This just shows how fantastic Lisa's writing skills are when the characters come to life every turn of the page and they feel so realistic that they start to feel like friends that you look forward to seeing and your heart pounds faster and faster every time they are in danger, which is most of the time!!! I absolutely love Josie's down to earth personality. Josie has suffered a horrific loss and instead of being the type or person to let it either overwhelm her or the type who completely gets on with life and forgets she is in the middle. Not only is Josie a strong female lead but Gretchen is also a fantastic female model and I love the bond between the two women. Every single character in this book "played their parts" perfectly to make an absolutely fantastic and memorable team who I love meeting every time I pick up one of Lisa's books.
Congratulations Lisa Regan on yet ANOTHER absolutely fantastic action packed book and this is why your in my top 5 female author list and why this series is in my top 5 list!! Looking forward to the next episode in this amazing series 🥂
Overall a heart racing, page turning, addictive and unputdownable fast paced crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Beginning with a car accident, a stabbing and a missing girl, this book kept me riveted to the pages as I tried, along with Josie and her team, to guess where a missing child would be and who would treat people in such a despicable and hateful way. With themes of abuse, control, and mental illness, this book was hard to read but also hard to put down. Josie is dealing with her own personal problems in seeking to become a mother, but she and Noah put that quest on a back burner while they try to discover what happened to their missing accident victim and if there is also a missing child. The police procedural and investigation were compelling parts of the story as Josie goes about methodically questioning and sorting clues, reaching conclusions and then backtracking to add to or change her conclusions once more evidence came to light. There are plenty of suspects, lots of red herrings and false trails and some really quirky characters in this book. In the interest of full disclosure, I won a contest with the author online and got to name a couple of characters. So, the parts where my daughter and granddaughter were being questioned had me glued to the page and hoping that they weren’t the killers. I loved the story and its switchbacks, and I especially enjoyed the fast pace of the investigation. With a missing and possibly endangered child somewhere, Josie and her team could not afford to take a break, so their frantic pace matched the theme of finding a missing girl. I enjoyed the characterization which was spot on and just what I imagined for the different personalities being portrayed. Mettner’s replacement is annoying and one of those people that I would have liked to deliver a swift kick to. I look forward to finding out more about his motivation for his absurd behavior in future JQ books. Right now, I just think of him as obnoxious, arrogant and lazy. He did add to the story, though, because he is a good foil for Josie’s meticulous investigating while he is the opposite, kind of bumbling around and every once in a while proving to be actually helpful. With a fast pace and a gripping story, along with nail-biting suspense and escalating tension, this book is one of the best Josie Quinn books ever. Her Dying Secret by Lisa Regan is book number twenty in the Detective Josie Quinn series. Once, Regan delivered a gripping tale that weaves a complex web of secrets and lies. Prepare for a wild and suspenseful ride while following Josie and her team as they face danger while trying to unravel the puzzling threads of a chilling case.
Detective Josie Quinn and her Husband Lieutenant Noah Fraley are making preparations for a life-changing event. While Josie is agonizing over this decision, she receives a telephone call which led to her turning up at the scene of a motor vehicle accident. A closer look at the scene revealed that this was not simply a motor vehicle accident. An apparent homicide and the possibility of a missing child has Josie and her team working tirelessly to find answers before it's too late.
The case came with a myriad of secrets and lies. Josie had her work cut out for her trying to decipher the lies from the truth. This is one of those cases where you think you have the answers. However, the deeper into the story one goes, one recognizes that they are way off the mark. The many suspects and the woeful lack of evidence will have readers guessing to the end, this coupled with the suspense and danger made for a page turning read.
While solving the case was the main focus, readers have the opportunity of getting involved in Josie's personal life. It was also interesting to see her trying to adjust to the new member of the team. This was not easy as he rubbed everyone the wrong way, not just once but all the time.
I look forward to seeing if Josie and Noah will realize their dreams. Also, I am keen to see if the new member of the team will eventually gel with the other members. At the twentieth book, the series is still going strong. I highly recommend Her Dying Secret as well as the series to fans of police procedurals.
Lisa Regan's Detective Josie Quinn is back in her twentieth story, and this one like those that have come before is a real cracker!!!
As Josie gets embroiled in a murder investigation. When her new colleague calls her to take over a road traffic accident. That is anything but.
As Mira Summers has crashed her car with a dead woman in the passenger seat. A 'Jane Doe' who is severely malnourished and has a weapon sticking out of her body.
And Josie wants answers.
Answers she'll stop at nothing to get.
But the case soon becomes even more bizarre and complicated. As the driver claims to have no idea who the passenger is or where she came from. Furthermore, Jane Doe is clutching a child's drawing with the word 'HELP' on the back.
Which makes Josie and husband Noah. Who are looking to adopt even more determined to get to the truth. Only there is a mountain of secrets to wade through first.
Not to mention a new detective. Who isn't exactly the team player Mett was.
And with plenty of twists and turns Her Dying Secret was a real page turner that proves Josie Quinn is here to stay and I for one am extremely happy about that!!
My thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy of Her Dying Secret. 😊
Every time I step into Denton PA with the incredible characters who feel like my fictional best friends!! I love Lisa Regan as a human and as an author!! 20 books in the Josie Quinn series and Lisa Regan always keeps it fresh. This book had me hooked from the very beginning. The way Josie has grown from book one vanishing girls to book 20 her dying secret is bittersweet. I’m going to be honest and say that I still miss a certain character and his replacement is interesting.🤭 we will see what happens I couldn’t help but giggle at the new replacements idiotic comments!! 🥲 I absolutely LOVED the plot it was so fun!! I was so off on who was behind the whole mess! I’m so ready for book 21🥹 this book was fast paced and simply incredible Lisa Regan knocks it out of the park every single time! Such in awe of her talent every single day.
