Sassy hairstylist with a troubled past Mateo meets loving yet undeniably dominant corporate attorney Sam
Mateo
After suffering abuse at the hands of my awful ex, I don’t want another man. No how, no way. Nu-uh. Once bitten, twice shy, that’s what I say. People call me a twink, but they don’t know the will of iron beneath my flamboyant exterior.
So why am I so attracted to Samuel Dawkins, the smoothly dominant corporate lawyer teaching me to defend myself against jerks like my ex?
Mentoring Mateo, a friends to more romance where Mateo learns that love doesn’t have to hurt, that a power exchange can be pure fun, and that a good man like Sam can love his sweet, sassy, makeup-wearing self, is book two of the MM NYC Romance series. Each book in the series offers a first-person, alternating perspectives stand-alone MM romance with a guaranteed happy ever after.
Please note that this book deals with themes of past abuse.
I couldn’t enjoy this book at all. Mateo felt like such a weak character with no backbone. I understand he had a complicated past—being groomed by Josh since he was sixteen while Josh was in his late twenties.
And when Toby, someone who genuinely cared about him, warned him that Josh was no good. But Mateo ignored the warning and stayed in that toxic relationship. It was frustrating to watch him continuously excuse Josh’s behavior.
It wasn’t until Josh actually hit him that Mateo finally had enough and walked away. By then, it felt like too little, too late. I just couldn’t connect with Mateo or enjoy the story.

This was my first book by this author and it was light and sweet. Mateo is a hair stylist in NYC and meets Sam through his friends Toby and Aiden. Their romance was semi slow as Mateo's ex was still harassing him but Sam and his friend Max put a stop to that. Mateo and Sam get their HEA and his new friend Noah gets his book next with Max.
