This was definitely a grumpy sunshine story. Emma has been caught up in a whirlwind of scandal as she slowly comes to the realization that her boss and his assistant disappears with all the investor's money from the company. Now the police and FBI are involved, and everyone seems to be looking at Emma suspiciously. Emma also has lost her nest egg as well and now she goes to stay with her best friend until she can come up with another job.

What happens is she is hired by the Donnovan electricians as Wade Donavan, co-owner, is still recovering from an auto accident that has left him in pain and anger. Wade is not pleased his dad hired Emma, and he is adamant not to get too friendly with her. But lo and behold, she begins to rub off on him and helps him and he is just naturally drawn to her. Until Emma's world begins to crumble again.

I liked how the author really showed Emma's faith throughout her situation. She was in trouble, not by her own doing, but she kept her prayers going. Being an example to those she loved most. Wade had let his situation define him. When he had just about given up in anger and rage, in steps Emma into his life. Can he be there for her, the grumpy and she the sunshine? This was a good story of falling in love with a bit of mystery and danger.

I love finding new-to-me authors that quickly become favorites and that is what Barbara M. Britton has done with Escape to Whispering Creek.

Wade was such a grump throughout most of the book and maybe rightly so. He had been through a lot. Emma was just what he needed to get past his woe-is-me attitude and move forward. Emma had a lot going on but I loved how she would turn to prayer and God for her comfort.

Both Wade and Emma were already Christians which I find rare in novels that I've read. Usually one or the other is going through a search for something and comes to the realization that they need the LORD. I enjoyed the shared faith aspect. They could talk about God and pray for each other which I thought was highly satisfying.

I found this book to be a really fun read! In my opinion it is mostly a contemporary Christian romance with a sprinkling of suspense and action. Exactly what I like in a good book!

I hope to revisit Whispering Creek sometime soon ;)

I am very excited and thankful to review this book today!

An engaging romantic suspense!

The mystery tucked between the pages of this novel makes for a fascinating romance. When Emma Uranova discovers she’d been tricked and swindled by the company she works for, she plans to stay with her best friend in Whispering Creek. During the visit, she accepts a temporary position at an electrical company. Her boss, Wade Donovan, is recuperating from an accident.

Unfortunately, threats and complications have followed Emma to her new location, perhaps endangering her friends. The challenging situation, with the accompanying budding attraction, is heartwarming as the couple strongly leans on their mutual faith to sustain them through the decisions which must be made. “The fact that they shared a faith in God was icing on the cookie.”

Though this is the second book in the series, I had no trouble following the story. If you enjoy a faith-based romance with a suspenseful “could-be-possible” scenario involving crimes and danger, this will be a good choice.

Favorite quote: “God had a plan that I didn’t even know about, and here I am, looking forward to what God has for me in the future. I’m not looking backward.”

This is my second book from this author and I am so glad it was the second book from Whispering Creek, not only is this author great and infusing faith throughout her stories but I really enjoyed being back with these characters once more. This time we are returning to Whispering Creek with Emma as she is basically going into hiding with her friend until the scandal from her job dies down. Little does she know that she will encounter Wade, the perfect brooding male character who has some inner battles within himself in dealing not only with his brother but also the recovery of his car accident.

The way these two characters learned from each other and their walk with God was done so well and very realistic. I think having the side characters Samantha and Cole which just happens to be Emma's best friend and Wade's brother brought the story along together as you need those friends and family to walk with you in your hardest moments.

Overall I really enjoyed the story. There was suspense, a little bit of mystery and of course romance. If you enjoy these elements in a book then I encourage to grab both!!

I received a copy of this book for review. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are my own opinion.

I am a big fan of Ms. Britton’s books. I enjoy both her Biblical and her contemporary fiction. After Reading Whispering Creek last year, I couldn’t wait for Escape to Whispering Creek to be released. And it was worth the wait. It did not disappoint! The main characters are realistically flawed, and I enjoyed watching them rely on their faith to help them face and overcome those flaws.

Emma, the heroine, has innocently gotten caught in an illegal scheme at her business, so she leaves home and travels to Whispering Creek to escape those who are chasing her. While there she meets her best friend’s brother-in-law, Wade, who’s fighting to escape the physical and emotional baggage resulting from an accident.

I couldn’t help but pull for both Emma and Wade to overcome their physical and emotional handicaps.

Escape to Whispering Creek is a well-crafted novel with intriguing characters. I couldn’t put it down, and I’ll bet you won’t be able to, either!

Thank you in advance to the author, Barbara M. Britton, for providing a complimentary review copy through JustRead Publicity Tours. A positive review was not required nor requested, and all words are my own.

Barbara M. Britton isn’t a new-to-me author. I had previously read a biblical fiction story of hers and LOVED it! So, I knew she was going to be a “must-read” author.

When I decided to read this, I didn’t know that it was the second book in a series. Because I had a gift card, I was able to get it – though I haven’t read it. Because of this, I HIGHLY and STRONGLY recommend that readers read the first book, Christmas at Whispering Springs. That introduces the characters, as well as events that continue in this book.

This literally picks up after that story. And, this one? Has a different take to it.

Readers of the first book will be happy to know most everyone returns:

🧰 Mike
👩🏻‍🦳 Linda
🧰 Cole
🧰 Wade
🧰 Derek
☎️ Sam
☎️ Emma
👨🏻‍🦳 Ernie
👩🏻‍🦳 Gretta

And, we get to meet Ernie and Gretta’s son – Jedediah. They’re the couple that live near Sam.

While I try not to give spoilers in my reviews, due to the nature of what is involved, some warning is advised. This deals with scams, con-artists, white-collar crime. There is also a homicide, with said body being charred; even a shooting is involved.

Right off, poor Emma goes into work only to find her workplace cleaned out. Turns out – her boss is a con artist, and run off with everyone’s money – even hers and worse, the mayor’s.

That puts her in the mayor’s crosshairs and his niece. She happens to be an investigative reporter. Emma quickly leaves town and heads to where she knows it is safe – Sam and Whispering Creek.

Wade is recovering from his accident, having occurred in the previous book. And, his attitude makes things a bit interesting. His relationship with Cole is seemingly on the rocky side.

Obviously, Wade still hasn’t fully forgiven Cole for the events that brought him home to Whispering Creek in the first book, despite Cole stepping up in the wake of Wade’s accident.

One of those acts of stepping up – helping out Sam’s friend Emma, and giving her a job at the company. While they know she had worked for Ron (the con-artist), they have no suspicions about her. Wade’s only probably is how open Emma is, and her “replacing” someone they know.

Her office managing skills pay off on the first day when Derek is hurt. She springs into action. She starts developing her confidence in taking care of their clients, something she knows and had developed a software program for.

Wade starts seeing her as a blessing, which begins after she fixes his hand during a spasm. He sees how she is with those around her. And, he even accepts what she says about his feelings towards Cole, thus leaving room for forgiveness. And, room for Wade to get past Cole’s actions.

Despite his grumpiness, Emma grows on him, like Cole said she would. While he didn’t appreciate her replacing Francine during her surgery, Wade sees that Emma has a gift. One of those times, it saves an elderly customer. She did something he wouldn’t have done, but it works out much better. It also makes them “heroes” in the paper.

In her quest to help them better organize, Emma mentions her software. But, Wade discovers something that causes him to make a decision. As a result, Emma is forced to head to Whispering Creek.

While they try to forget each other, it isn’t easy.

What’s worse? Emma’s life is unknowingly in danger.

As usual, God makes his way known – even if it takes a different and often difficult path.

Britton crafts a beautiful story that has elements of forgiveness and faith.

A story that is very easy to read, and hard to put down.

This was such for me. It was definitely a day read for me. I was drawn right in and hardly put it down. I read half (½) the book inside of an 8-hour period. I finished off the book inside of 4-hours. This had a slight suspense element given the story line. But, that was a minor part of the story. It connected well, though it was predictable.

There were a few formatting issues with this. Not the fault of the author, but on page 83 – it was a bit straining. Given the premise of the book, it moved in quite a fast-pace, though it didn’t feel like it was rushed.

The friendship Emma and Sam have is indeed a besties goal. The line about laundered underwear did me in. And, I agree. Nothing like having laundered underwear 🩲🙃😉 If you read the first book, you’d know. I sneaked a peek.

I had to laugh at Emma driving a bug, then naming a cactus Herbie. If anyone is familiar with Disney movies – The Love Bug was about a cute VW named Herbie. Incidentally, between 1982-2000 my grandmother had a cute Toyota I named Herbie. Still miss him. And, Emma’s Herbie becomes a hero of sorts. I couldn’t stop laughing.

I absolutely related to Emma’s thought in the beginning about the low-pressure tire light. Sadly, my TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) went down in 2023. And, like her – no money to repair it.

I also related to Wade about losing count on reps during PT sessions. When I injured my shoulder – that was something I was infamous for. I also understood what he meant when he wondered about how much someone could take. I’ve been through a lot in the past 30 months, and it hasn’t been easy.

Another draw to the book … the cover!

The cover was cutesy, but knowing Emma drove a “buggie”, I saw a missed opportunity to have a light blue one on the cover. They’re sweet cars. And, I know why she chose it. I’ve always loved them, and had a chance to drive a rented one for a week back in May 2015.

Overall, I absolutely enjoyed this quirky and sweet story. It is relatable and all too realistic with the scams out there. This would make a wonderful and cutesy Hallmark series. Very demure, very mindful 🤭 (I couldn’t help myself. I had to get in on the trend).

As this is Christian fiction, there are going to be overt themes of faith.

Those who enjoy a cutesy read, with some suspense – this is definitely the book to grab. For those who’ve read the first book – this is absolutely a must-read as well.

I’d definitely be excited to revisit the series, perhaps see Jedediah again?

In “Escape to Whispering Creek” it is effortless to sink into the story. The characters are so nicely developed, and I feel a part of Whispering Creek.

It’s difficult to choose between this author’s Biblical and Contemporary fiction because no matter the time or place, the characters are so real, believable, and easy to love. And for me, connecting with the characters is what completely sells me.

Emma is easy to connect with and I empathize with her from page one. I imagine being in her shoes and feeling the panic and uncertainty soaring through me. Wade pierces me deeply. I’ve worked with people who have been injured and/or disabled, so his plight especially speaks to me.

I love a story that drops me into a bit of suspense and keeps me turning pages well into the night. And, as always with Barbara Britton’s books, the sweet romance is satisfying, and the wonderful elements of faith fill me with satiating inspiration. Such a rewarding story.

I think I mentioned that I put a call out to a writers group for authors who write in a similar genre to me.

That's really hard to pinpoint, to be honest.

Some want to put the 1970s in the historical category--well, it is over 50 years ago--and some say it's more contemporary. I also now say that I write sweet romance with romcom overtones.

I've been really studying to discover what makes a romcom a romcom and learned it can be written in third person as well as first person. But the humor must be more apparent than the romance for it to be a romcom.

And that's where I learned my Weather Girls and the spin-off Wedding Shoppe and Venue series are sweet romances, just with humor.

So, like a said above, finding a genre similar to what I write isn't easy. So I decided to check out sweet contemporary romances, romcoms, historical romance (20th century, preferrably) and see what I could find.

Up pops Escape to Whispering Creek by Barbara M. Britton.

It is a contemporary romantic suspense.

It begins with Emma Uranova going into work on a typical Monday that turns into anything but typical. Imagine walking into your place of employment to find every electronic device gone.

And your boss's phone number has been disconnected.

Let's just say I had to keep reading.

Escape to Whispering Creek is definitely Christian fiction. And though it doesn't make you scared to turn out your light after reading at night, it still hits the needed notes for a suspense novel.

What I really liked was that the characters were well rounded yet flawed. You don't have those perfect Christians that turn people off from our faith. Instead you have believers who are wrestling with what has been dumped on them while holding tight to Jesus.

And, though I confess I sort of guessed a few things, I sure didn't guess them all and have to cheer Ms. Britton for the surprises.

All in all, I think if you enjoy sweet romantic suspense with bits of humor sprinkled throughout (Sorry Jar, I'm thinking of you), you will definitely want to get your copy of Escape to Whispering Creek.

Escape to Whispering Creek surprised me in the best way. I don’t typically gravitate toward Christian romance, but I found myself drawn into the mystery and the connection between the two main characters. The author did a wonderful job helping the reader connect with the people and the setting—there were so many rich sensory details, I could almost feel the flashy vibe of Nashville and the close-knit charm of the small town of Whispering Creek.

The ending held a twist I didn’t see coming, which added an extra layer of enjoyment. As a Christian, I was glad to see faith represented so openly, with characters who prayed and talked about their beliefs in real ways. At times, the spiritual moments were a little more overt than I personally prefer, but they were sincere and clearly central to the story’s heart.

Overall, this was a tender, engaging read with memorable characters and a meaningful message. I’d definitely recommend it to fans of inspirational romance looking for both heart and suspense.

This is the first book I have read by this author. This is a Romantic Christian Fiction novel. I was interested in reading this because the blurb on the back of the book sounded very interesting. This book felt very original to me. I loved all of the characters in this story. I really loved the dynamic between Wade and Emma. It was nice to see how she helped him go from grumpy to loving life again. I thought this story had all the emotions from amusement, sadness and down right happy. This book was one of those that was hard to put down. It kept my attention from the beginning to the end. I definitely recommend this novel.

I enjoyed reading Christmas at Whispering Creek, so I was excited to see another book set in this delightful town. It did not disappoint. The author crafted a story with many plot twists and with very realistic characters. Protagonist Emma struggles to avoid a legal entanglement by moving. But trouble seems to follow her. We see her persevere through her trials, which include her growing affection for Wade Donovan, despite his bitterness over a past injury. Characters are believable and likeable. Escape to Whispering Creek has elements of a romance, a mystery, a drama, and some touches of comedy, all wrapped up in one book. I hope to see another Whispering Creek book in the future.

Barbara Britton is a master at combining a faith-filled story with page-turning suspense and a promising romance. You’re in for a treat in this return to Whispering Creek with a setting we grew to love in a previous book. You’ll be rooting for a happy ending as Wade and Emma fight internal and external battles—drawing on their faith to help them through in relatable and heartwarming moments! I loved the twists with the white collar criminal element that kept me on the edge of my seat. Skillfully written with a perfect balance of suspense and romance!

Barbara Britton delivers a heartfelt and engaging story in Escape to Whispering Creek! I was immediately drawn in by the light suspense, unique characters--Emma and Wade. Healing from a painful accident, Wade is a grumpy guy and Emma the effervescent balm he needs.

Even though it stands alone well, I was thrilled to learn it follows Christmas at Whispering Creek—I can’t wait to read Cole and Sam’s story next! The writing is clean, polished, and full of heart. I highly recommend for fans of inspirational romance.

Emma is headed back to Whispering Creek after she shows up to work one morning with no computers and all the investor's money is gone, including her inheritance which she had invested. A temporary position opens in Nashville and she jumps at the opportunity. Only problem? Her boss is not happy having another person around proving that he can't work at full capacity.

Wade is just trying to get back to normal after a work crash injured his left arm and right leg. His parents hiring another employee to take over more of his work is not what he had in mind. She may be the only one that can help him though. Until trouble follows her to his door.

I felt a personal connection with Wade in this book and he deals with not being able to fully do his jobs due to work place injuries as I currently go through the same thing. I Felt like the conversations with God and the scripture references were just what I needed.

I can't wait to go back to Whispering Creek.

A touching love story with just the right amount of suspense and the perfect sequel to Christmas at Whispering Creek. I enjoyed getting to know characters who had a minor role in the first novel and getting to see different perspectives of the main characters from that book, particularly the way Wade viewed his younger brother, Cole.

I appreciated the themes of trusting God and forgiveness, things I’m sure we all struggle with sometimes. I was captivated with the story from beginning to end, but the humor sprinkled throughout kept it from getting too intense. I highly recommend this book!

This book grabs your right at the beginning with an unusual premise that develops throughout the book. This was a new-to-me plot and was thoroughly enjoyable. The characters played well off each other and through their interactions brought forth important truths about trust and faith in family, friends, colleagues, and mostly God's perfect timing, love, and protection. The intrigue behind the plot keeps you turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. I highly recommend this book!

This is a terrific romantic suspense. Britton's snappy dialogue and great pacing had me sailing through the book. I must admit I stress-ate my way through the last 40 pages as everything roared to a conclusion. Britton is one of those rare authors who is equally accomplished in multiple genres, and this may be her best yet in the contemporary niche. If you like romantic suspense with a faith-based message, this book is for you!

Loved it. It was like coming home, catching up with familiar characters and seeing what they were up to… and discovering that Emma was in a whole heap of trouble, and Wade was recovering slowly… and then things just keep happening… fave line of the entire book isn’t until almost the end, but it’s worth it.

Contemporary Christian Romance books are one of my favorite genres to read. Escape to Whispering Creek by Barbara M. Britton is the most recent novel in this genre that I had the opportunity to read. I am excited to be back in Whispering Creek as I read the first book, Christmas at Whispering Creek.

I was so excited to read this book that I dove right in as soon as I received it. I was glad that it was a day where I had plenty of time to read, as I didn't put it down until I was done. Emma Uranova and Wade Donoven are the main characters in the book. Emma left a job that she really loved due to her boss being involved in possible theft. Emma first goes to Whispering Creek, TN to get away from the drama. Emma gets hired by Wade to help him run his business office, in Nashville, as he recuperates from surgery. I really enjoyed the storyline and how Wade and Emma grew a business relationship into a relationship of friendship and love. I also LOVE how they rely on God and their faith when it is discovered that Emma has been keeping the previous boss's scandal in her Backpack. Wade really gives Emma grace as he knows his feelings for her are deep. Wade could have given up on Emma, but the relationship between the pair is so amazing and Wade wants to protect Emma from danger due to the scandal. I really hope there will another book set in Whispering Creek as I am hooked on these Romance stories in the Small town. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary Christian Romance books. WONDERFUL BOOK!

Escape to Whispering Creek is aptly named in that it is a great literary escape. I was instantly immersed in the narrative and quickly read it in one go.

I really liked the air of mystery that surrounds Emma as she tries to deal with being swindled. It’s clear who’s behind the nefarious acts and though the story is predicable there is still something quite endearing about it.

Emma is a happy and chipper character which is a complete contrast to Wade’s sour demeanor. She helps Wade loosen his grip on bitterness while he gives her strength to handle life throwing her one difficult situation after another. Emma’s prayer life is robust as we see her embody ‘praying without ceasing’ and having an almost continuous conversation with the Lord, something I always love to see.

I always feel so sorry for people who have had to deal with fraud of any kind but there’s something about investment fraud that angers me to my core. To fraud someone by taking advantage of their trust is truly disgusting, so those moments made my blood boil. Needless to say, there is a plethora of emotions going on in this book.

Pick up this novel if you’re looking for a clean romance with a dash of suspense, endearing characters, and a quick, entertaining ride. This was a wonderful story, and I really enjoyed being back in Whispering Creek again!

Escape to Whispering Creek is the first book I have read by Barbara Britton but it certainly will not be the last. There is so much to love about this story! I recently came across the phrase "What didn't work out for you actually worked out for you," and that seems to be Emma's story in a nutshell. Her dream job with an investment company goes up in flames when her boss absconds with his investors' money, (along with Emma's life savings) leaving Emma to deal with the fallout. She flees to Whispering Creek and the home of her lifelong friend, Sam, where she lands a temporary job that seems like a Godsend -- if she can win over her grumpy but oh so handsome new boss, Wade. I'm drawn to realistic, likeable characters and this story has a full cast. The dialogue is fresh and up to date and I especially loved Emma's simple, honest prayers. 'Pray without ceasing' seems to be her way of life. Add a lovely setting and numerous obstacles thrown in Emma's path and you have a top notch Christian romance you won't be able to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend this book!

I enjoyed Christmas in Whispering Creek, so I looked forward to reading the sequel. I started reading on a cross-country flight and was thrilled the time passed so quickly, since the story was so engaging. The story starts with Emma’s world turning upside-down. She’s dealing with so much, but she is a spunky, fun, strong heroine. You know she’ll get through her trials, but Ms. Britton makes you nervous for her! Wade is a big grump when Emma meets him, and it’s fun to see his journey. The Donaven family is one you’d like to join for dinner, and Sam and Emma’s friendship is the very best kind. Through ups and downs, Sam and Emma lean on one another, and you can’t help rooting for Wade and Emma to find happiness, even with all the obstacles in their way. You don’t have to read Sam and Cole’s story to enjoy this one, but I recommend reading them both, simply because you’ll enjoy them! If you like romances with a spiritual theme weaved into the story, you’ll want to Escape to Whispering Creek along with Emma!

Having thoroughly enjoyed Christmas at Whispering Creek I was so excited to read Escape to Whispering Creek. The setting is something right out of a Hallmark movie! We have the opportunity to get to know some of the characters introduced briefly in the first book. Emma and Wade have a lot to work through and overcome. I love how Barbara Britton never loses sight of the relationship her characters have in Christ. From beginning to end we see how God weaves the everyday experiences of each character into a renewed sense of hope and trust in Him. Escape to Whispering Creek offers adventures in relationships, healing, and risk taking. There is humor, joy, suspense, and comfort. Sit down and take some time to thoroughly enjoy this delightful story. It is way better than a Hallmark movie!

Escape to Whispering Creek is a story in which we get inside refreshing characters—how they view each moment, situation, and relationship. The criminal situation and the business turned upside down by three medical plights was truly entertaining. Emma is lively, caring, and courageous but also can be intense. Wade is a good guy but not above being negatively affected by what life has dished out to him. But no worries. God is in control and their significant struggles result in blessed growth in their character, in a lasting love between them, and a closer relationship to their Creator. I recommend Escape to Whispering Creek to lovers of romance, humor, growth in character, and healing in family relationships. I received an advanced copy of this book but am not required to leave a positive review. The thoughts are my own.

I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me of a Hallmark suspense movie. I liked how Wade and Emma fell in love as they spent time together and opened up to each other. I liked how they each had different struggles but were able to relate to each other through their struggles. I liked how the Donavan family welcomed Emma in and helped her to find a safe place while things were spiraling out of control back home. I liked the suspense aspect in this story and how that got resolved. I also liked how Emma found where she felt like she belonged and found home. I enjoyed the setting and the characters. I would definitely read more books by this author.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

I enjoyed this cozy mystery! I loved the small town setting in Whispering Creek, since I have a soft spot for small towns. I could only imagine what it would be like to be in Emma's shoes, when her former boss took off with her savings and that of some of their clients. She needs a safe place to land. Even though Wade is bitter about a recent injury sidelining him, it winds up giving him a chance to get to know Emma and perhaps help her unravel the mystery surrounding her former bosses.

I enjoyed this well written story and the character development! I look forward to returning to Whispering Creek with the Christmas theme story.

I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.

If you smell the lingering scent of candles while you read Escape to Whispering Creek, it's no mistake. That's the lively prose and vivid imagery of Barbara M. Britton's sweet romance. Her similes pop and crackle, as do the witty dialog and chemistry between Wade and Emma.

With Emma’s spunk and Wade’s grumpiness, their interactions are as rough as sandpaper at first. It takes a while to smooth out. But that’s part of the story’s fun. I found myself rooting for these two while wondering how their relationship was ever going to work out in the web of job complications, danger, confusion, and self-doubt.

Additionally, readers who prefer a strong faith thread will find it here.

I received an advanced copy of this book, but the review is my honest opinion.
