the plot continues but this is the story of eliza and spectre 🥹 in this comes with second chance romance, masked men, forced promixity, touch her and die, protective, on the run, duo pov, book one in series ⚜️

this is so great for a quick palette cleanser !! i’m so interested in how the plot plays out so i can’t wait to start the next books 😩
Dr. Eliza Harrington's astonishing medical research puts her and the team in danger as enemies definitely want to acquire it by any means possible. The van they are traveling in is attacked, but a man in a mask rescues her. Spectre is a military operative assigned to protect Eliza and get her to a waiting helicopter. But when they need to seek cover in a cabin due to a surprise blizzard, the two of them respond to the forced proximity, especially since the two of them have a past – even though she doesn’t know that. Will their bond help them to survive the danger that is coming after Eliza? Can Spectre keep her safe? And if his identity becomes clear to her, how would she react to him now?
DNF 47% I tried, really I did. I even picked it up and read another 4% today after giving up two days ago. But finishing this isn't worth another hour of my life.
Yes erotica. So plot doesn't have to make good sense, but it does need to make at least a little sense of the hot steamy scenes. (The hot steamy scenes work so the book rating gets a star for that, and another star for mostly good grammar and spellings.)
Starts off great with a military scene where our heroine gets rescued by a masked man, wearing an ooh, spooky skull mask. He kills to save her (as appropriate to the situation) and she, as a research scientist and a doctor in a war situation, is okay with this. (Put a pin in the "research scientist and doctor", because we are going to circle around back to that.) In the initial craziness. Eliza gets separated from her female friend and demands that they get back together. Quite alright for the mental space she was in with the military action of a crazy moment. Eventually, she accepts that putting them together will get them both killed.
Then the isolation in a hut waiting to be rescued with the bow-wow-chick-a-boom time.
Here is where things go off the rails. The man has to hide his identity behind a skull mask - not sure if it is rigid or cloth. Anyway, his eyes are visible. But he kisses her and performs oral, and she is able to grab his hair when he does that. Lots of kissing and mouth use...so the mask is covering his...nose(?) to hide his identity?
Other problems is Eliza, a research scientist and doctor, is not * quite * too-stupid-to-live. She again insists on talking to the friend after nearly 24 hours after the crazy since the radio is working. Why? Also, why would she search through his stuff to figure out his identity? She is a doctor in a war zone, she knows what is up. She even handles a gun herself. What happened to her twisted ankle; how is it okay after all that running on it? The line "You are intelligent woman, act like one." is running through my head way too often for this book. I do not believe the character as defined when compared to her actions.
Why did she allow him to have fun times with her just after she sewed his knife wound up with stitches? (Okay, erotica for that last one.)
Corn writing is fine, but erotica needs to come with a story that makes sense. This story does not.
Spectre is a short and steamy, OTT, forced-proximity, opposites-attract, second-chance romance. Spectre is a burly, hunky, mysterious military man. Eliza is a smart and sassy researcher. When she is sent to Romania for a research expedition, her team is ambushed in the wilderness. As bullets and death are around her, she is saved by a man in a mask, known only as Spectre. She is both scared and drawn to him but has no choice but to trust him. He vows to keep her safe. They end up stranded during a snowstorm in a safe house, and things get hot and S-T-E-A-M-Y!! But who is he, and how did he come to protect Eliza? I was pleasantly surprised by this story. It had drama, mystery, and steam. I had some idea of the connection between the characters but would have loved more background on how Spectre became Eliza's protector. Was it planned or a coincidence? They had amazing chemistry, and we did get a happy ending after the drama. I hope we get a story for Emma and Onyx. I loved it!!.

Spectre: Her Mysterious Protector is a standalone short story by Ursula Chang, and is the start of a new series. This is an action packed short story with a good dash of spice and romance to go on top.
The story is a wild ride in the middle of Europe, deep in the wilderness away from the safety of the cities. A group of researchers find themselves in mortal danger, except that they also happen to have some military protectors, and all of these circumstances come down to the nature of their research. A mysterious military man, ready to protect his charge, a researcher who has zero clue what is going on and why, and a cabin that brings them together.
I enjoyed this book. This is good for those that enjoy forced proximity, military romances, with a side of suspense and mystery.

What happens when a research trip goes sideways and the van you're traveling in with other scientists gets attacked? Run. That's what Eliza and her friend/colleague Emma do. Running for their lives, they are taken by the good guys. A military group trained to protect an "asset".
While Eliza tries to get information out of her protector, she realizes there's something familiar. Spectre, the guy who was sent to protect her and get her to safety, knows Eliza and he'll do what he can to keep that information to himself. He let her go once, will he be strong enough to do it a second time...
I do hope book two is about Eliza's friend Emma and her protector, Onyx. their banter had me wanting more.
Good story. Can be read in one day. This was the first book I've read by this author, but I hope to read more.
Spectre is a protector, part of the military and his mission is to protect Eliza. Not only is it his job but it’s also personal for him. Eliza is a doctor who has come up with a new lifesaving drug. Her life’s work falling in the wrong hands can prove as a biological weapon. Failure is not an option. This was a thrilling short read. It keeps your attention, you can’t wait to see to see what happens next. Can Spectre keep Eliza safe? What happens when she finds out who he really is? He is a dominant protector and she is stubborn, sassy and independent.

This is an action packed quick read, where Eliza is on the run as someone wants her valuable research and she is protected by a mysterious Spectre.
Tension between the main characters heats up as they need to lay low in a safe house. There were parts of the book where I wish it had been fleshed out and went a little deeper but it was still an enjoyable read!
The author set up clues for the next book in the series, interested to see where it goes next.
Thank you to the author for the ARC through Booksprout. My review is my honest opinion on this book ✨
This starts out as all action and danger that keeps you interested. She has the information for a medical break through. When the group she is traveling with is attacked and she gets separated he comes out of the jungle and rescues her. Then the heat rises when they are trapped in a cabin with a snow storm brewing and the extraction team not able to get to them. He’s a stranger to her yet she can’t help but feel he knows her.

"We're scientists, not spies, yet here we are, escorted like VIPs in a geopolitical thriller."
Bit of overuse with the word balaclava in the beginning and a little confusion about kissing Eliza with the mask on but overal it was a good short read before bed. Plus I'm really hoping for a story with Emma and Onyx, that old married couple comment had me cackling. And I liked the epilogue.😊 __ I recived an advanced copy of this book from the author via booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a super fast-paced, steamy read with just the right mix of suspense and tension. I loved the forced proximity in the cabin and the mystery around Spectre kept me turning pages. Eliza was a strong lead, and the chemistry between her and Spectre definitely brought the heat 🔥
Some parts felt a bit rushed, but honestly, for a quick read, it delivered exactly what I was looking for—action, spice, and just enough emotion to keep me hooked. Perfect if you’re in the mood for a romantic thriller with a bite.
Honestly, for a shorter book I really enjoyed it. I managed to read it within two hours and I loved every moment of the plot. It felt like I was in a chokehold and it wouldn't let go until I finished the book. The only thing I was unsure about was the last spicy scene. I wasn't sure if that was a good idea even if she was right months pregnant- I would be completely worried about losing the baby especially knowing you aren't supposed to do that while pregnant, but that's just my personal opinion. Other than that I loved the book and I honestly can't wait to read Onyx.

I tried to like this book. I was excited for this book. And what a let down that was. I was so bored. And for a fast paced book that says a lot. We spent half the book repeating…. “He won’t let me see who he is” “She can’t know who I am for her protection” …… Then the lead up of she will be mad or angry at who he is, to which she is for all of 5 sec, then bam suddenly she doesn’t care. The “betrayal” was the briefest scene ever. Then BAM epilogue out of absolutely no where and a year has passed. And what even was that epilogue….
A short but action packed love story. Full of intrigue about who was after Emma’s research and also who exactly was Spectra, the man in the mask who was saving Eliza. When she eventually realises the mystery is explained. I really enjoyed this story, lots going on and everything brought together at the end with their HEA.

A short well written story with an intriguing storyline that held my interest. I enjoyed reading. Eliza and a group of scientist she is with are attacked and only she and her friend Emma get away. Spectre is one of the ones that rescue them, but he is keeping something from her. This is the beginning of a new series. I want to read the next book. This is a new Author to me and seems to be her debut story. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a short book you can read in about an hour. It is a great story that moves quickly and has a few surprises. Spectre has been assigned to get Eliza to safety after she and her team of researchers are attacked. There is some drama, but it just makes the story flow wonderfully. I'm not sharing any spoilers, and this is a great book. I look forward to the next one by this author!

A pretty good novella, however I was left wanting more - more background, more context, more of pretty much everything. I came here CRAVING an SAS book, the manliness, skills, brotherhood, protector aspect, and it was only a little tease. But I will be checking in, waiting for a longer book that delivers it all, like this one does - just in more detail!
I enjoyed reading this book. Once I started reading it I had a hard time putting it down. This is a short enjoyable read. Spectre's mission is to protect Eliza. The storyline grabbed my attention from the start. I would recommend reading this book. I hope you enjoy it as much a I did.

With Spectre assigned to keep Eliza safe, Eliza trying to keep her new miracle drug from her enemies and these two butting heads, this short read is quite the fun ride!.

I like what this book was going for but it honestly just needed a little more time for the chemistry to develop, the special forces mystery man and the scientist on the run was a cool, very James Bond-like setup, and I wish it was longer!
The story was okay, but I came away with the feeling that it was mainly about the sexual intimacy with a somewhat romantic story built around it. I was hoping it wouldn't end on that note, but... it did.
Not a bad novella but it just felt like it never elevated for me beyond "ok". I loved the concept of the story but I felt like it just missed something.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone and I cannot wait to read more books by this author. I've already downloaded Winter Vows and cannot wait to start it.
