What Are the Names of God?

Rate this book
Names have significance. Many children are given names that reflect deep cultural or spiritual values. Similarly, some people have titles that carry a great weight of responsibility or reverence. What about God? What meaning can we find in the different names that He has in the Bible?

In this booklet, Dr. R.C. Sproul explores several of the names and titles that God uses to reveal Himself in Scripture. These names have much to teach us about who God is and how He cares for His people.

The Crucial Questions booklet series by Dr. R.C. Sproul offers succinct answers to important questions often asked by Christians and thoughtful inquirers.

Dr. R.C. Sproul (1939–2017) was founder of Ligonier Ministries, an international Christian discipleship organization located near Orlando, Fla. Ligonier Ministries began in 1971 as the Ligonier Valley Study Center in Ligonier, Pa. Dr. Sproul produced hundreds of lecture series and recorded numerous video series on subjects such as the history of philosophy, theology, Bible study, apologetics, and Christian living.

He contributed dozens of articles to national evangelical publications, spoke at conferences, churches, and academic institutions around the world, and wrote more than one hundred books, including The Holiness of God, Chosen by God, and Everyone’s a Theologian. He signed the 1978 Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy and wrote a commentary on that document. He also served as general editor of the Reformation Study Bible, previously known as the New Geneva Study Bible.

Dr. Sproul had a distinguished academic teaching career at various colleges and seminaries, including Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando and Jackson, Miss. He was ordained as a teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church in America.

4.75 stars. This is a really good book. You can obviously tell that the writer is very intelligent and has studied his scripture. There is a lot of scripture mentioned in this book and so much information concerning the names of God. It gives new perspective and there are a ton of good quotes that can be found. I would recommend this book to a believer who desires to know more about the names of God. The only thing is I wish it was longer and used more cross references in the Bible, but I can’t complain cause it was really good!

The Names of God

The names of God are many! Dr. Sproul explains some of the most frequently used ones for each of the members of the Trinity. He cross references between Hebrew and Greek showing a common thought between Old and New Testaments. This is a great beginning to learning the names of God and through that the character of the individual persons of the Trinity.
