Nicole Jordan's Tender Feud is an engaging Harlequin Historical where the enemies-to-lovers trope is used against the backdrop of 18th-century Scotland.
Katrine Campbell has left staid England behind for adventure in her ancestral Scottish homeland. Unfortunately, her Campbell relatives are feuding with the Macleans. On her first night in her family home, Katrine gets caught in the middle of it all and is kidnapped.
Her captor is hunky Raith Maclean, leader of his clan. Maclean is a widower, not looking for remarriage, and certainly not looking for love with his half-Scots-half-English enemy.
There are tons of sparks flying between the fiery Katrine and stubborn Raith. They argue lots but are secretly attracted to one another. The romance takes time to unwind, as Katrine is one of those "spunky" heroines, and Raith is determined to "dominate" her by his will.
Instead, the two learn to build a relationship on trust. Raith has a young female relative with whom Katrine builds an endearing friendship. Raith's sexy cousin Callum flirts with Katrine. Although she's not interested in him beyond friendship, Raith glowers and disapproves.
A romance begins to unfurl between our protagonists in due course, as they always do in these books. Katrine finds herself falling deeply for Raith.
Eventually, Katrine is finally released. But is that what she wants?
Nicole Jordan's "Tender Feud" is one of the better Scottish clan feuding and kidnapping love stories I've read. Or maybe it only seems that way since I read it when I was young, and other books with similar plots seem to be derivative.
(Side note, just to point out how old I am, every time I think of this book, I recall at the time also listening to deceased Spanish crooner's Camilo Sesto's Greatest Hits album, which is filled with so many romantic songs. "Solo Tu" [Only You] is my favorite. So perhaps the music swayed my tastes about this book a teeny bit.)
Still, I consider this a more than satisfying read, as I would always contrast books with comparable plots to "Tender Feud" and find them inferior. There are many romances with this same story and setting, but to this day, this one still holds a certain charm for me. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Nicole Jordan is quite a talented author.
I wish Raith's sexy cousin Callum had gotten his own book. It doesn't seem to me that he did, but I'd love to be updated if anyone knows for certain.

A sweet and entertaining one to read.
An alpha Highland Hero who hated everything to do with the heroine's family was forced to 'kidnap' the said female. Heroine was not the typical beauty one would find in these historical romances, she's a bit plain but with a feisty personality.
Hero was still pinning for his dead wife but couldn't help but felt the pull with the heroine.
She was unlike her family; she's nice, she's kind hearted and cared for people.
The couple could not deny their attraction to each other and slept together, however, Hero kept denying his feelings for her. He rejected her outright due to the two families' feud.
You know the ending. It's always a happy ending. I felt the heroine was a little bit too "free" with her feelings, she should have let the Hero grovel a bit more for 'pushing' her away.

Creo que definitivamente este tipo de historias no son para mi, pero supongo que no es malo, tiene suficiente drama y frases como "su cuerpo viril me alzó sobre el caballo..."

No ha sido de los mejores de esta temática que he leído, pero tampoco la peor. Se lee rápido y fácilmente. La trama pintaba interesante, pero no se si es porque hace poco leí un libro con una trama parecida, que este me ha sabido a poco.
La protagonista es una chica que quiere vivir aventuras y por eso deja Inglaterra y se va a vivir con su tío a Escocia. Allí, la primera noche encuentra en su despacho a un hombre que parece que está robando, pero en realidad es el jefe del clan McLean, que ha ido allí a alterar unas cuentas de su tío.
Finalmente, la acaba secuestrando y es ahí cuando comienza la aventura.
Los diálogos entre ambos me han gustado bastante, pero la primera parte ha sido demasiado tediosa para mi gusto, ya que no sucedía nada interesante más allá de narrar las aventuras del viaje.
La segunda parte ha tenido un poco más de encanto porque se ve como ella poco a poco consigue hacerse hueco en la vida del clan enemigo y la empiezan a tomar algo más en consideración, pero a raíz de que ambos pasan la noche juntos, la historia se vuelve un poco..digamos, repetitiva.
Que si ahora te quiero, ahora no porque eres del clan enemigo, que no quiero tenerte cerca pero a la vez no hago más que buscarte y finalmente, tras declararse (esa parte me ha gustado, sobre todo porque es ella la que se declara a él en frente de todos), la lleva de vuelta con su tío y no es hasta dos meses después que vuelve a por ella y resuelve todo y sin apenas problema en unas cuantas páginas.
Como digo, no es mala, pero para mí le ha faltado algo más para que consiguiera emocionarme.

4 - 4.5 stars. Read this for Regan Walker’s monthly blog May is Scottish historicals month. Pretty good story liked the plot, h / H, and the angsty read that goes on through most of the book. Some good secondary characters round out the story along with an epilogue too. I like NJ’s books and really enjoyed this one.

This was my first Nicole Jordan read. I'm very slowly branching out from the English Regency and have somehow landed myself very firmly in Scotland (something about the plaid, man, I really like it). Anyway, I'd say this book was pretty good. There were some moments where I was kind of iffy about what was happening, but for the most part, I really enjoyed it. I've seen people on here complain that it was "too slow," but honestly, in order for this book with this plot to be realistic, it needs to be slow. She gets abducted, for crying out loud. She can't just tumble into bed with him the first night.
There's a lot going on this book: a heroine who's strong-willed and trying to work her situation out after getting abducted on her first night in Scotland, a hero who has to come to terms with how he feels about his captive (who happens to from a rival clan AND English, the latter of which is probably the graver offence), the hero's ward who can't speak, the rivalry going on between the hero's clan and the heroine's, and, of course, amusing characters to lighten up your read. Nicole Jordan executes this pretty well. While not perfect, this book does make me want to read another Nicole Jordan book. Princess Charming here I come.

Estuve a punto de no comprar este libro, ya que los últimos de la autora no acaban de convencerme y, otro de Highlanders suyo que leí no pude ni acabarlo. Pero como era barato me arriesgué, y acerté.
He disfrutado del libro desde la primera página hasta la última. Es lo que esperaba encontrar en un libro de Highlanders.

I liked this book, even though it was a bit unbelievable that warring Scottish clans would forgive and forget this easily. The love story was nice, it actually took awhile before they ended up in bed. I despair that virginity meant anything to women in this era, they seem to give it up easily. I guess there wouldn't be a story of they didn't!

Con Nicole Jordan tengo una relación ambivalente. A veces sus historias me gustan muuucho, otras no taaanto. Esta de aquí califica para la primera situación.
Tengo q reconocer q no me esperaba lo q encontré xq, fiandome de la portada creía q era una de esas novelas de highlanders tradicional (por eso justamente la elegí) pero no ha resultado así, y sin embargo ha sido un placer leerla. Sí, estamos en Escocia y sí hay muchos escoceces q no Highlanders porque se supone q después de Culloden, las Highlands dejaron de ser tales. Se supone que en esta Escocia no deberían pasar un montón de cosas q pasaban y sin embargo, siguen pasando. Justamente lo que me ha gustado más es la ambientación. Estamos en una Escocia dominada x los ingleses, al menos en teoría, pero los Highlanders siguen siendo exactamente igual q en las epocas anteriores: siguen usando su ropa tradicional - lo q está prohibido - siguen hablando su lengua milenaria - cosa q también estaba prohibida - se supone que fueron conquistados y los clanes eliminados, pero eso solo ocurre en las mentes de los sassenachs.
Y en este contexto están Katrine y Raith q son todo lo q se supone q deben ser en historias como ésta. Se odian, se desean, se aman. No se soportan pero no pueden estar lejos uno del otro. El no la secuestra, pero tampoco la quiere liberar. Ella quiere escapar, pero se termina quedando. Al final, cuando se supone q ella está de vuelta donde tiene q estar, él decide q siempre sí la quiere de vuelta y se manda una de las reconciliaciones más complicadas q he visto en mucho tiempo. Ella, por otro lado, pudo haberlo hecho sufrir un poco más.
Por lo demás, toda la historia cumple y entretiene bien.

Para mi asombro no me convenció mucho.
Autora y tema de mi agrado pero no me genero mayores emociones, todo se sentía apagado incluso los personajes.
Raith MacLean es laird, en su búsqueda de ayudar sus parientes “descastados” del Rey ingles termina en la residencia Campbell, y por azares del destino secuestrara a Katrine Campbell - Él odia a todo esa clan por aliarse con rey inglés y no apoyar la rebelión escocesa. Ella también es medio inglesa, lo que hace que la desprecie más.
Por consiguiente nuestros protagonistas empezaran odiándose, pero irán acercándose a medida que se conocen, siempre habrá una atracción latente entre ellos. En especial en las discusiones.
Sin embargo la pasión no podrá ser contenida, y después de pasar la noche juntos, él se sentirá culpable y la regresara a su clan. Pese a que ella se confiesa enamorada y le pide quedarse a su lado.
Obviamente después aceptara sus sentimientos y regresara a buscarla – Aunque ella se hará la difícil terminaran juntos.
La verdad no me emociono. Sentí el romance apresurado y no tan presente, él es demasiado frio y ni fuerte ni débil ella tampoco emociona.
Historia algo plana, quisiera leer algo mejor de esta autora y de Highlander. A mi parecer trata de apagarse al rigor histórico.
Al final no se cuenta que pasara con su clan ni parientes más allá del final feliz.

A half English and scots woman know for her shrew tongue get abducted by her uncle's enemy clams laird. Caught in a unknown fued she calls for her captor . Raith refuses to fall in love and it marry again but his wee captive turns the tables and he becomes captive to his own feeling for the lass. Good book a little slow and drawn out at times but with every page to read.

3.5 stars, I suppose. I felt that the heroine wasn't very likable, particularly in the beginning. She improved as it went on.

A pesar de que detesto las discusiones, hay que reconocerle a esta protagonista que no se deja pisotear. Solo por eso merece la pena haberlo leido, pero nunca estará entre mis lecturas preferidas.

Corazón Cautivo es la primera novela que leo de Nicole Jordan y me ha dejado gratamente sorprendida en algunos aspectos y decepcionada en otros. La historia se centra en Katrine Campbell, una mujer escocesa que se ha criado gran parte de su vida en Inglaterra y decide regresar a las Tierras Altas en busca de aventuras, sus planes se verán trastocados cuando sea secuestrada por un grupo de hombres del clan MacLean, el cual es enemigo desde hace décadas de los Campbell. A partir de este punto empezará un duelo de voluntades entre Katrine y Raith, el laird del clan MacLean.
La historia romántica empezó bastante bien es un enemies to lovers porque los protagonistas se consideran como enemigos mortales y así mismo se tratan desde el inicio hasta casi la mitad, aunque como es lógico en estas historias y el contexto social, la protagonista no sufre mayores daños al principio durante su cautiverio, debido a que enemiga y todo se deja en claro que la siguen viendo como una dama y los hombres nobles seguían teniendo sus principios en ese aspecto.
Debo decir que los puntos fuertes de este libro es la rigurosidad de Jordan para adentrar al lector en las Highlanders, posterior a la Batalla de Culloden. La autora no escatima en los detalles al momento de describir el paisaje, el vestuarios y los personajes, lo cual le permite al lector situarse mejor en la época. La autora incluso inserta en el texto frases en gaélico para acentuar más la cultura escocesa.
De los personajes, me atrevería a decir que Katrine es una protagonista que, a pesar de diferir en algunos pasajes del libro con sus decisiones, se convierte en alguien bastante entrañable. Raith me gustaba hasta cierta escena en donde termina agrediendo a la protagonista, entiendo que por la época no estaba mal visto "disciplinar" a las mujeres, pero creo que esta escena no aportó mucho a la trama y se pudo haber evitado porque sigue siendo violencia, justamente esto y los errores en la traducción que leí son los motivos por el que la novela no alcanza las cinco estrellas.
Quitando los detalles, disfruté bastante la lectura y espero seguir adentrándome en la narrativa histórica de Nicole Jordan.

Raith me gustaba hasta cierta escena en donde termina agrediendo a la protagonista, entiendo que por la época no estaba mal visto "disciplinar" a las mujeres, pero creo que esta escena no aportó mucho a la trama y se pudo haber evitado porque sigue siendo violencia, justamente esto y los errores en la traducción que leí son los motivos por el que la novela no alcanza las cinco estrellas.
Quitando los detalles, disfruté bastante la lectura y espero seguir adentrándome en la narrativa histórica de Nicole Jordan.

Finally.. A nice historical romance by one of my favorite authors. I hated "desire and deception" but this i liked probably because it was not her one of the first books.
The blue eyed devil of a hero Raith Maclean and red headed spitfire heroine Katrine Campbell make a fine couple and i thoroughly enjoyed their bickering n bantering.
The plot was quite good and not at all slow for me. This is what we expect from HR... People dont fall in bed in their first meeting.
All in all.. I am definitely gonna read other historical romance books by her.

This is your average romance book. Hero hates the heroine. They quickly fall in love, have sex and live happily ever after. Would of bee. better if H/h waited for sex until they married. Also felt the story needed more historical facts. I felt these were lacking.
