Things grow dire in Bauer Kingdom when Claire gets roped into service as a secret agent of the king. Fortunately, the infuriating commoner Rae Taylor is by her side as always, helping to root out corruption among Claire’s fellow nobles. But when an uprising threatens the kingdom, will Claire wind up sacrificing herself on the altar of her ideals? Experience the thrilling finale of the I’m in Love with the Villainess spin-off series—featuring completely new, never-before-seen scenes from Claire’s perspective!
This is the last installment of the I'm in Love with the Villainess: She's so Cheeky for a Commoner side series, and I am positively sad about it! But fear not, this volume was as good as the previous ones and delivers exactly what readers expect.
There are three things I would like to highlight about this third and last installment. First, the revisiting of iconic moments from our villainess' perspective. This volume deals with the revolution arc, which means that we get the angstiest versions of Claire and Rae. I loved reading all those scenes from Claire's perspective, as it allowed us to see the heartbreak she was feeling but was unable to show to Rae at that time. Second, the characterization of secondary characters. Back then, Claire's friends were quite forgettable, as Rae usually says, so I liked getting to know them better. Catherine, Pepi, and Loretta now have distinct personalities and background stories that make them far more likeable. Even Melia, Claire's mother, gets her time to shine in a flashback short story! Third, the addition of new moments between Claire and Rae. I am easy to please and desperate for any new content. Luckily, I was satisfied in that regard. Aside from the whole novel, there's an epilogue and short story that's basically them being a couple in love. Domesticity and comedy at its finest, which is why I am here for.
To sum it up, the I'm in Love with the Villainess: She's so Cheeky for a Commoner side series was a great addition, especially for fans like me who weren't ready to say goodbye yet. I understand why this is the last installment, however, I am very open to new ones. Just saying!
She's so Cheeky for a Commoner (Light Novel) Vol. 3, the final volume of this side (?) has its moments, as is to be expected. Great characters, funny scenes and some interesting insights in what happened to various characters that we got little on in the main story. Still, switching to other POV, including flashbacks, during the climax of the story gave it a very disjointed and rushed feel. It is the end of this series though, which is a good thing. I don't retelling a story from another's perspective makes an all that interesting story for the long run. All in all, an interesting read, but could have been much better.
Seeing these events play out from Claire POV was great. Some may say it was rushed but it really isn't as long and you read the original first two volumes of "I'm in love with the villainess." These fill in important gaps but retell every detail of the originals. The blending of politics, fantasy and romance is wonderful and moving.
