BRIGHT LIGHTS & DARKNEST NIGHTS

Zaha Sanko is one of the most dangerous men in the universe, but getting half your skin melted off will put a cramp in anyone's style. The Photonuclear Man created by the Lighthead Order has succeeded where so many others have failed, and they finally have a chance to harvest one of Sanko's legendary bones. Those bones are said to grant any wish—but Sanko would really rather hold onto them. Meanwhile, his buddies Avakian and Damemaru are in hot pursuit, rushing to the Holy Zone to stage a desperate rescue. The stage is set for a huge battle between dark and light!

Q Hayashida (林田球, Hayashida Kyu) is a manga author from Tokyo.
Hayashida studied oil painting at Tokyo University of the Arts. She has discussed her childhood and artistic inspirations in interviews but maintains a high level of privacy about her personal life, to the point that her true name and face are unknown.
Hayashida's first major manga was Maken X Another (1999-2001), a comic book adaptation of a video game.
Her most famous work is the 23-volumes long Dorohedoro (2000-2018). It was originally serialised in the alternative manga magazine 'Monthly Ikki', but it was later moved to 'Hibana' when Ikki ceased publication, and finally transferred to 'Monthly Shōnen Sunday'. Dorohedoro has been partially adapted into an anime on Netflix in 2018.
Hayashida's most recent manga series Dai Dark began serialisation in 2019 in the pages of Monthly Shōnen Sunday.

I recently gave up on the creator's other series, Dorohedoro, when I realized I just didn't care about the plot. While the characters in this series are a bit more likable and humorous, I have gotten bored with their pointless bumbling about also. The villains they are up against have some sort of plans, but I just don't care how anything turns out. It doesn't help that the childhood flashbacks to school seem to be over, and those were the more tolerable parts of the previous books.

I might return to this if I find out it has ended, but I think it's a current series in Japan with no ending in sight at the moment.

3.5, mostly because this volume felt like it was a little bit all over the place, and not sure where it wants to go next. Or, it does to a certain point, but I'm just getting a bit tired of it, maybe?

It was still kind of fun, and I particularly enjoyed seeing Katastrophos in its new form, but it was also slightly too muddled at times, and the bonus bone wasn't that good this time, to boot.

Volume 8 is not available yet, it seems (at least at the library), so time to take a break from this mindless entertainment series.
