Unfortunately, I’m stuck reading these because I’ve made it this far, but the writing is unimpressive and the narrator for the audiobooks makes me cringe. How does this woman continue to narrate books? How many times can the writer say “with every fiber of her being????” It’s almost comical at this point and I just roll my eyes as I listen wondering why I continue to subject myself to these books?!?
I'm nearly maxed out on Ella Dark - each story is pretty much the same: they have 2m3 or 4 suspects that aren't the perp - then Ella has a huge brain wave and they've got there bad guy or girl. And of course there has to be a personal problem with Ella then the epilogue that sucks you into the next book. Rinse and repeat.
Ella really seemed off in this one and I know it's from Ben and what happened at the start. That seemed to loom over her the whole time. Even talking to Mia didn't help. They managed to find their bad guy. I kinda felt sorry for him, wonder what went on that flipped his switch. I'm intrigued by what happened and the end and how/if that will change things for Ella.
I wish I could rate a 0. This book doesn't make any sense. The last book ended with Ella's foot being crushed by a bear trap on the same night that the FBI director was killed. This book starts on that same night/the next day... they mention the FBI director being shot, but no mention of her foot being crushed and her foot is fine? She didn't need to go to the hospital or take time off to heal from a crushed foot?!??!? Then at the end of the book they get their guy, but what happened to the person he kidnapped? Nothing at all about it... was she saved? Did she die? again if you are writing a series.. make sure it makes sense and maybe change up the plot a bit.. each of the books... Ella and Ripley find the correct killer and then it turns out it wasn't them, then they find another suspect, but it wasn't them, then Ella goes off on her own, almost dies because she didn't follow FBI rules and someone saves her and she gets her man.

Ella is at a crossroad, she wants to have Ben at her side but does not want to commit, at the same time she watches as Ripley is happy and looking forward to a new chapter in life - with less stress and lots of romance - and she envies it. Her new boss has been killed, and she and Ripley are sent to investigate who is killing therapists in Wisconsin. The story is well-written, it has a good plot with a cliffhanger end which make me wonders what will come next! I thank Ms. Pierce for this ARC.
I’m still reading this series because it’s a series and that’s what you do. It’s not because the writing is so amazing I have to keep going. I equate Ella Dark to Nancy Drew a little bit. She’s this untouchable female power and it’s become a sort of comfort read, much like how Nancy was for me as a kid. When I need to read something I know, I pick up the next book in the series and I feel cozy.
The editing (or lack thereof) almost made me walk away from this book. This series has good story lines, but the typos and missing punctuation, quotations, etc, are frustrating. I enjoy the characters in the books and hope these drawbacks will be corrected in future books.
Listen! I will indefinitely only see clients virtually and not be listed; this killer was DIABOLICAL! This series keeps getting better and better; now I cannot wait to see who is Ella's "angel".
Ben asks Ella to move in with him because he's ready to settle down and start a family. Ella isn't ready and they break up. Mia calls Ella & tells her their boss, Carter was killed. They leave for a case in Wisconsin. Someone is strangling blonde haired, Blue-eyed Therapists. They find several suspects, but they have alibis. Really a good read with an ending at home for Ella to investigate!
