Kace Hallard leaves Sacramento, bound for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, something he and his father had always planned to do together. When his father realizes he won’t be able to make the trip, he makes Kace promise to go on his own. He takes off, not sure he’s up to the challenge. When he has mechanical trouble a few hours away from home, he questions his choice even more. Striker Johnson is just out buying lunch for the guys at the shop when he notices the handsome stranger in the parking lot checking over his Harley and looking confused. He approaches him and offers his help. The next few hours fly by, and Kace asks Striker to join him. It’s the trip of a lifetime for them both, one man looking to ease his grief, the other riding toward emotions he has no hope of controlling. One way or another they’ll have to decide if they ride together or separately, when life throws them one more curve.
This is probably me not the book. For me it was just OK. I could not get into it at all. It seemed to drag on with minute details that were really unnecessary to the overall romance. It was very and then we did this and then we did that. It just is not a style I respond well to. The romance and connection was good but I didn't enjoy this book as much as I could have.
Amid his grief, Kace Hallard heads out alone on a motorcycle journey from Sacramento to Sturgis, SD, to fulfill the ride that he and his dad have always dreamed they’d do together.
With something wrong with his bike, he makes it to Reno and stops in a grocery store parking lot to take a look at it. While he does, Striker introduces himself and offers to fix it at his repair shop.
Kace and Striker hang out together that night and it’s decided that Striker should come along with Kace. So their journey begins!
With each new day’s adventure—from the Salt Lake Flats to the monument of Crazy Horse—the two are really falling for one another.
But all good things come to an end. Unfortunately for Striker, he needs to fly back home after receiving bad news about his uncle Dan, the man who has raised him.
How could something that started from a tragedy end the same way? Well, maybe it doesn’t ... C’mon this is a BL Maxwell book, after all.
I thought Kace and Striker were so cute together. Although they met and fell for each other rather quickly, it seemed natural and effortless.
If a light and feel-good read is what you’re looking for, then Ride should fit the bill!
It was a nice idea but I got bored pretty quickly. Pretty much insta-love from the get go. The first couple of nights were sweet but after that things got a bit repetitive for a while. Eat, drink, shower throughout. I did like the way they communicated on the road and the ending.
This story was awesome!! It was loaded with romancr and I vicariously travelled to some wonderful parts of USA with Kace and Striker. It was an emotional and sexy story.
Ride: The Chance of a Lifetime (2019) by B.L. Maxwell is a gorgeously beautiful love story.
The book follows the story of Kace Hallard and Striker Johnson while they fall in love and seek adventure and life experience on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip adventure. The story begins with Kace bidding his mother farewell and taking off on his motorcycle from Sacramento with the destination being the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. As he departs, there is a mixture of emotions in Kace’s heart. He is excited to go on the journey as he is a workaholic and hasn’t took a break for a while but on the other hand he was supposed to go on this trip with his deceased father. However now he is going on the trip alone with the intention of scattering his father’s ashes at various landmark points on the trip. Then his motorcycle breaks down and in sweeps mechanical hero Striker. It’s love – or at least lust – at first sight for both of them and soon the pair are going on their first unofficial date to the casino.
Pretty soon after, Kace asks Striker to join him on the trip and after speaking to his uncle who he works for, they set out on the road together. As the story progresses their love for each other gets stronger. I love the chemistry between them. They both seem to always have each other’s best interests at heart and their dialogue together is wonderfully natural and very much shows how at ease they are with each other. There is also some great humour in their interactions with each other which can sometimes be missing in romance stories. The characters of Kace and Striker are a major part of what makes this story so great to read. They are very down-to-earth, have a lot of depth and backstory and are like everyday people who you know. They also both are really nice and all these things combined along with their very obvious feelings for each other and their suitability as a couple leave you rooting tremendously for them to succeed as a couple.
Anyone who knows me knows I am hopeless when it comes to geography. But I learned some geography from this book. Maxwell has included some geographical information about America which is very well-researched as is the information about motorcycles. Readers are swept along on the journey with them and great fiction takes you to places you have never visited and are often far from. This book certainly does that. Some authors tend to go so much into the geography and the overviews that it takes you out of the story and ends up boring the reader. Maxwell doesn’t do that here. She manages to give the reader the information they need in an interesting and informative way without going so much into it that readers are pulled out of the story.
This book also deals with a very important issue in grief. Kace is missing his father who has passed away recently. He is feeling guilty that he never took time off work before to go on the trip with his father. The author writes the grief element of the novel very well. I lost my own father almost eleven years ago and I very much appreciate that the writer wrote this part of the story with much sensitivity and authenticity. Striker was amazingly supportive of Kace in his wish to pay tribute and honour to his father’s memory which was beautiful to read. Without giving too much away, Kace shows the same level of compassion for Striker later in the book when there is a fear he will lose someone he loves too. These shared sad experiences strengthen and deepen their love for each other.
There is also some sexy scenes in this book so if you aren’t into scenes of a sexual healing variety this book may not be for you. But I found the scenes to be very fun and very hot. But I must say the amount of showers they took, my god there is no chance of their personal hygiene being bad! There is a sense of things repeating themselves in this book. They go for meals a lot, get accommodation a lot, have a drink a lot, shower a lot and that may irritate some readers who may want the small details cut out. But for me I was happy they weren’t. It added a realness to the book for me. It felt very much like what happens in real life and I liked that trueness to life in the details.
The characters are fantastic. The plot is brilliant. It is written amazingly. In short, I loved this book.
This is a story that I enjoyed way more than words can say. To anyone who enjoys riding a motorcycle, this is a dream ride to Sturgis. Kace made his Father the promise to go to the bike rally in Sturgis. On his way alone, uncertain and sad, he has mechanical trouble in Reno. After meeting Striker by chance, in a parking lot, he finds out he's a motorcycle mechanic. What are the odds? Anyway, they end up on a journey of a lifetime. They decide to attend Sturgis together. This as a reader, this was my chance to take the trip my husband and I dreamed about. A horrific motorcycle crash in 2005, made it a trip we will never be able to take. People who don't understand why people ride will not understand this story. Readers who enjoy riding will absolutely love it. My husband and I were t-boned by a pickup truck in 2005. On a rural road, by an older man looking at his cell phone. Both of us lost our left legs at the scene and almost died of blood loss before we were life flighted to a hospital. We spent 33 days in that hospital. We weren't risk takers, we never stopped for a beer or drank at rallies we attended. But because one person couldn't miss checking their cell phone, our lives changed forever. But the shining light is we are still here together, living our lives to care for each other. This story put me back on a bike and took me on the trip I always dreamed of. Thank You BL MAXWELL for this BEAUTIFUL journey, I couldn't have taken any other way. I enjoyed the scenery, the music and the companionship of riding with someone. I adored these characters. FANTASTIC job of bringing it ALL to life. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!
This was one hell of a ride! (See what I did there, LOL)
Kace and Striker were lovable and while their relationship was a bit (well, okay, a lot insta), it worked well for them. They had chemistry in spades and I loved that Ms. Maxwell devoted a lot of time to them talking and exploring and getting to know each other, to the point that when they realized they were in love with each other, it was believable, despite the short time that had gone through.
I was enamored with all the sights and places they visited and I hope to perhaps do a similar trip at one time, just not on a bike, Mari and motorcycles don't mesh well, plus I'm a scaredy cat, so yeah, no thanks.
Anyway, this was a well-written, low angst, semi-steamy romance that I'm sure others will enjoy as much as I did. Very recommendable!

Kace's reason for the road trip is bittersweet, starting the book off on a tender note. As his bike breaks down, he meets Striker and spends some time with him. Immediately the connection is strong, and the attraction is even stronger. Soon the two are off on the ride of a lifetime together.
Their story is one of healing, of getting a chance to enjoy life. Their story is one of fulfilling a promise and saying goodbye. Kace and Striker are incredibly adorable and romantic together.
I love the tone of this book, and the flow. It sucked me in from the start and kept me intrigued throughout. The author writes with great descriptions of the scenery, while never overdoing the details. I could feel everything along with the men and felt like I was with them.
I definitely enjoyed every second of Ride. BL Maxwell managed to create a sweet romance with a meaningful, emotional adventure.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was such a delight to read. From the first mention of Ride on Facebook I knew I wanted to read it. In my opinion it's the perfect read for when life gets hectic. A sweet love story with an added bonus, it'll warm your heart and take you to some amazing places at the same time. At the same time you really get to know Kace and Striker. I've always wanted to just hop in the car and drive around the country. Only these guys are doing it on motorcycles. What really made the story work was how the author balanced be detailed about the scenery without dragging it out or being over done. This allowed me to visualize it without losing the connection or flow. That's a hard line to ride and BL Maxwell did it perfectly. So if you're looking for a sweet escape with beautiful views, this is the book for you. www.reviewsforthosewholoveagoodbook.w...
Ride: The Chance of a Lifetime was one of the earliest books I read by BL Maxwell immediately after I finished Caden and Rio's stories:) What a wonderful journey! Kace decides to take the trip to Sturgis as a way of honoring and remembering his father who recently passed away. While he is on the road, his bike sputters and he has to find a garage to get a mechanic to check it out. Who does he run into but Striker? After Striker fixes his bike and they have a wonderful night of drinking and dining together, Kace invites Striker to join him on his road trip to Sturgis. Along the way, they fall in love and embark on the adventure of a lifetime together. BL Maxwell takes us all on a wonderful ride with this book, and I definitely have a road-trip out West planned in the future thanks to Kace and Striker. Ride on, men, ride on!
Kace Hallard leaves Sacramento on his motorbike, bound for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and to scatter his father's ashes on the journey.
After a few miles, Kace's bike breaks down, and Striker offers help at his shop. That's the start of a beautiful journey through America.
Well written, good solid characters that we can relate to—a love story of how strong you can be with someone by your side. Beautiful HEA.
Good narration from Curtis Michael. Very clear and easy to listen to. Although, like usual, I sped up the audio, and I listened at 1.40 speed on audible, but I prefer all my audios to be quicker.

I loved this story. After Kace's dad passes he goes on the trip of a lifetime. He promises his dad he would take the motorcycle trip from Sacramento to Sturgis. The one he and his dad always wanted to go on. His bike starts acting up and he has to stop in Reno where maybe he can figure it out what's wrong. That's where he meets Striker and motorcycle mechanic . Striker is able to fix Kace's bike. They really hit it off and he asks Striker to join him. They head off on a incredible adventure. When Stricker's uncle is involved in an accident in Reno. Will Kace race to be by his lovers side and support Striker when he needs it the most?
Kace is on the way to Sturgis to fulfill a promise to his father when he meets mechanic Striker. A night of drinking and gambling results in Striker joining Kace on his ride. Together these two visit amazing sights across states, just riding without a care in the world. For Kace it is about healing and for Striker, getting away from his responsibilities and just living. Thankyou BL Maxwell for a book that I did not want to put down and that did not break my heart - I loved every second of this and it's one I could quite happily read again and again and again.
This book is sooo good! I really enjoyed taking a Ride with Kace and then when he meets Striker seeing the adventure they go on. There is something for everyone in this book: motorcycles, sexy and sweet characters, a little emotional moments, fun landmarks to visit, some definite geek moments, and let’s not forget the sexy, steamy times! Kace and Striker are sweet and fun, and while it’s not exactly insta-love they have a connection immediately and it’s great to see it grow so fast and how they just click! So happy with the way this book ended and can’t wait for more!!
This was an amazing story. Kace is traveling on motorcycle on his way to Sturgis. He's making the trip he planned with his father before he passed away. On his way there he meets Striker, a fellow biker and mechanic who helps him with a problem on his bike. They quickly decide to go on the trip together. I actually felt as if I was on the trip with them, watching their romance develop. This was a really sweet story.
A really well thought out & planned story. We meet Kace who is going on a trip of a lifetime after the recent death of his father & Striker the mechanic who saves the day when the beginning of Kace’s journey hits a snag. Kace invites Striker to join him on his trip & a really sweet romance begins. Great descriptions of all the places they visit has really enticed me to really crack on & arrange my own trip of a lifetime. Xx
This book has been a complete sensory experience for me. I followed Kace and Striker in their ride from Sacramento to Sturgis on Google Maps, I listened to the same songs they blasted through their helmet intercoms and I salivated over the different foods they tried over their road trip through the various states. A beautiful story of overcoming grief, paying homage and finding love on the way.
I’d actually give it a 3.5, mostly because I couldn’t get into the voices the narrator had created for Striker and Kace. Neither seemed to fit what I had envisioned for either character. Other than that, I loved the story. A well-executed romance with enough drama to not take over the story arc while still providing the happy feels of a relationship worth holding on to.
It almost dragged a tad for me. “Sounds good” happens 35 times, 12 “let’s do this”. It almost read like a tourist information leaflet. Nothing special happens apart from the instalust, but it does feel like real life. Tiny bit of drama at the end, and a joyful HEA.
This was sort of like a travelogue on bikes with a romance thrown in. A slow paced, mellow sort of story. Its a long bike ride along a scenic route. A bit boring for me as most of the chapters are repetitive and of course because of the instalove.
What to say both men were so damn cute the trip of a life time away to get to know somebody and fall deeply in love an uncle/father who has always supported a mother who lost her partner then the trip for all loved every bit of this boom
It's not what I'm used to reading, but it's still a good story. I'm not from the West Coast, so I enjoyed the mental tour and descriptions of the landmarks. I was well written and worth reading.
This is probably the first time I read this author. I really liked the book and it's fun to read about a love story about two men. :) Will really check out the author's other books.
An ok read I guess, I honestly can't rave about it, for me it was good one minute and then slow and boring the next, no disrespect to the author just not my thing.
