Pffffffff … what a peace of work. It was good, it was bad, it was wonderful, it was draaaaagging.
And it put me in a slump.
Some days ago I did not think that I could ever finish it. But then I found this phenomenal book I’m currently reading and it set my brain back into the reading mood. (Thank you Adrienne Lothy and „Kestrel“)
Anyway, this book is a good book. It was what I wanted to read. I wanted all the emotions, all the hurt and all the tears. For this, it really was perfect.
“I want to forget. I just want to forget.”
“So do it,” Hank mouthed against his lips, Finn’s eyes blasting wide open at the sensation of his scruff scratching against his chin. “Use me to forget. Then I’ll use you to do the same. Nothing more, nothing less.” 🥺💔🥺
I knew it would also be smutty and I thought it would be good. I’m biased. Yes the sex scenes were quite what I expected and they were good. But I had a hard time to fit them to the characters. In the end I think the kinks were good and I think it’s good that Hank does discover new things for himself that are completely different from his former love life. Still, maybe the sex scenes were too many I think and the book would have done good on a bit more relationship growing.
Brushing the tip of his nose against Finn’s crease, he started pulling a wide range of sounds from him. Like a conductor directing his own orchestra, a string of moans and sighs filled the air, Finn occasionally cursing when Hank attempted to breach his hole with his nose or his tongue. He could fucking live down here, his face smeared with their combined scents and juices, the only nourishment he needed. 🤤
And then, well … you see it coming and you hope that they won’t be so dumb … The breakup was what put me in my slump.
To sum it up: I love Finn and his story. I would like to shake Hank pretty badly.
And then, there are three epilogues … nope, just no … and the promised fisting scene is in the last one … I hate it soooo much (and I normally love fisting).
Grmpf. I’m very unhappy now.

Oh let me count the ways I loved this book… this story was heartbreaking and joyous and passionate and beautifully written. This will squeeze your heart and have your eyes tearing up from the first page. A E Jensen writes with so much raw emotion you can’t help but be transformed as you’re gently transported into the world she is creating for her characters to navigate as they reach for their HEA.
Home Then was the first book of Jensen’s that blew me away and I wasn’t sure going back would live upto the expectations I’d built up over time but the author blew those out of the water too. This is a stunning book of love and grief and belonging and loss and found family and healing. It’s oh so swoony and spice is really spicing … I mean this book is white hot!!
There is so much I love about this book, all the wonderful characters, obviously Finn and Hank, also loved seeing Colton and Henry doing so well and I loved the low drama angsty emotional feel of it. I am thrilled to bits that I picked this up as soon as it released. I really recommend giving it a go - I belive it can be read as a standalone but why wouldn’t you want to read Home Then?

I loved returning to Hayley’s Peak, Nebraska, Tilley’s Diner, catching up with Henry and Colton, and watching as new life was breathed into Hank ❤️ This sweet, heartbroken man’s world had stopped turning the day he lost his Eugene. He lived with so much loneliness and regret for words left unsaid. He was just going through the motions each day, until he found Finn, sick and half frozen. Little did Hank know that this encounter would set his world in motion again. My heart broke for Finn. From the 3 year old little boy without a family, being adopted, but still worrying he would be “returned”, to the self loathing and punishment for that solitary second he looked away and altered the course of his sister and family’s lives. He was so lost until Hank found him, nursed him back to health, and gave him a safe place to land. I love how Hank truly saw Finn and never backed down from him when he tried pushing him away. He told him “I’m not going anywhere”, and meant it. I was so happy that Finn learned to forgive himself and reconnect with his family. I love how real and vulnerable these guys are, and how loving and accepting their community is of them. Eugene was also honored and remembered in such a loving way. He was still a part of their lives. The author did an amazing job of wrapping up this duet and giving these guys the happily ever after they all so deserved. ❤️

Wow, what a great freaking story, I was captivated right from the start! I'm definitely a fan of A.E. Jensen's books, and they just get better and better with each release. Glimpses of Him is my new favorite!! It was all written so beautifully. I really felt Hank and Finn's pain, love, longing, and eventually their happiness, just all the feels. It was also great catching up with Henry and Colton, they're so freaking cute! I really loved this book and look forward to more of A.E. Jensen's work, definitely recommend!

Oh my- this story was so cute, I couldn’t stop smiling! Hank and Finn meet in some pretty rough circumstances, but it’s clear from the start that something special is evolving between them. It felt like fate had already decided they were meant to be with each other. The way their relationship developed was so tender and full of feelings — it wasn’t rushed, just this steady, emotional build that felt so genuine.

Another phenomenal book from Anja.
Hank and Finn are the epitome of Lost and lonely at the beginning of this book. But the way their relationship developed felt so natural and utter seamless.
Finn broke my heart. That man, with all of his self-doubt, barrelled into Hanks life and fit there perfectly. They were exactly what the other needed.
Anja has a way of writing characters that make you fall head over heels in love with them, and these two men were no exception. I loved Hank in Home, then, but the way I love that man now. He is a caretaker and strong and dependable, all of the things Finn needed. And Finn was exactly what Hank needed. They came together and healed each other in ways they didn't know they needed, and it was perfect.
As always with Anjas books, the writing was utterly incredible and takes you on a journey into the book, and with that, you not only feel every word but you experience it.
This book made me laugh and cry, and everything in between and I loved every page.

Wow. Just wow. I knew this was gonna break my heart and it did, but I also knew Anja was gonna make it worth it and put it back together in the end🥺🩵
Truly a breathtakingly beautiful love story, that tugs at your heartstrings and makes you feel all the feels. Anja has such a way with words that right from the start you where transported to Hayley’s Peak. If really felt like you were right there with Hank and Finn, cheering them on and going through all the highs and lows with them.
Those two were exactly what the other needed. They had both gone through trauma and loss, and the way they healed each other was beautiful🥺 My sweetest Finn deserves the world and I’m so happy he truly found that with Hank.
I absolutely loved every second of it, even the tough heartbreaking moments.🥺💔
And the side characters and cameos were just perfect 👌🏻

This author and her way with words 🥹💛 I once again find myself in awe 💛 From the start my heart aches in the best way possible. A.E Jensen is my queen of angst! Her hurt/comfort stories are just phenomenal!
I so looked forward to reading Hanks story. I knew this man had layers, and was struggling to let go of the past. Afraid that meant he could forget his one true love, but luckily we can have many loves in our lives. And like all A.E Jensen’s men, he’s a surprisingly talented dirty talker 🫦

Glimpses of Him is a standalone sequel to Home Then. This means you don’t have to read Home Then, but I recommend it anyway because it’s good and you get the full experience knowing all the characters.
With this book we go back to Haley’s Peak to discover Hank’s story.
Hank is Colton’s uncle, and we were introduced to him in Home Then.
Glimpses of Him takes place 4 years after Home Then.
Hank lives a solitary life in his cabin after losing his husband 7 years earlier. If he’s not fixing cars in his shop, he’s at home enjoying the peace and quiet. But that’s until Finn barrels in his life in the most unexpected way… what started as a rescue / bring back to life mission for Hank and Finn, quickly transforms in a tale of deep connection with a stranger, fighting for survival after loss, comfort with one other, finding solace in each other’s arms and enjoying the day to day in a small town.
I started this book being a little scared about Hank’s age… I was scared that it would be hard for me to connect with him since he’s closer to my parents age than mine… but looking back, it was stupid of me! There is a bigger gap when I read about 18 yo characters than 59 yo lol !! Apparently, I forget my own age sometimes…
Anyway, I couldn’t have been more connected to Hank and his caretaker side and love for peace and quiet. I loved the way he naturally fell into his role with Finn and took care of him without a second thought.
Finn broke my heart from the start, the “then” chapters, even when he was 3 yo were so deep and I could feel everything. When he met Hank, I could feel him breath for the first time in years and being able to be himself for real was such a magnificent thing to witness.
Finn the Hun and Daddy Hank both have my heart and I left it with them in Hayley’s Peak 🖤. Thank you Anja for giving us this beautiful story even if you didn’t have any intention to write it in the first place. You listened to your readers, and the result is beautiful.

You could see from first sight, Hank is a special one, a gentle soul, a quiet man, with a big heart, he’s fifty-nine and sadly lost his partner Eugene seven years ago. His head is full of beautiful heartfelt memories, they gave me goosebumps.
Finn’s past is completely different, he’s adopted when he was little, now he’s thirty-six and drifting. For the last eight years, he’s been on his own, never stayed long enough somewhere to get attached, try to run from devastating memories. Oh, sweetheart, you can’t run from them, my heart hurt for him, I wanted to hug him so hard. He loved so deeply and lost everything, his biggest fear came true.
I was stunned by the moment and the way how Finn and Hank's paths crossed, my heart, I heard it cracking.
I won’t spoil it, you really have to read their journey yourself, it was something precious, it was a process, not instantly, but something special was blooming between both men. A friendship, a friendship with benefits, and some delicious needy, dirty-mouthed, spicy encounters. Hallelujah!
Ow you guys, getting to know these two, you’ll grant Hank a new love, something he never saw coming, a new purpose, and you’ll fulfill Finn’s hope, give him love, and a warm home, something he yearned for, but thought he never deserved it.
The writing was a warm blanket, with touches of humor and an eye for details, emphatic and full FULL of feelings. It made me, at times, immensely emotional, with tears running down my face.

Hank Deitrich featured in Home Then as the uncle of Colton. Hank has suffered bereavement loosing Eugene after thirty one years together.
Finn Kennedy had a harsh childhood until he was adopted by Anna and Ellis who he calls Mom and Dad, they also have a daughter ten years younger than Finn called Cara, who Finn adores.
Finn is found by Hank in Colton’s shed with a fever caused by an infected cut in his hand. Finn left home because he blames himself for an accident involving his sister, but it was not his fault. He is desperate for forgiveness, but after eight years he fears he has left it too long.
Hank and Finn’s relationship starts out as a friend with benefits arrangement, but the more and more they spend in each others company, the more feelings become involved.
Spurred on by Hank, Finn goes looking for forgiveness from his family, leaving Hank behind. Both heartbroken and needing each other. Hank decides to go and get his man, and achieve their hea.
It is no secret that I love A. E. Jensen and her writing style. This book is no exception. It flows with the greatest of ease. Yes, it breaks your heart and you will cry, but it will also mend you, in the best way possible.
Hank is just the loveliest big bear of a man, and Finn is deserving of all the love possible. Together they are perfection.
Anja writes the best hurt/comfort books with an age gap. If you love this then please check out Loud Places (one of my favourite books, i have ever read), Occasional Fires and Saints (easily in my top ten of the year), and Home Then, where we first meet Hank and his nephew Colton.
This book is quite simply fantastic and must be read.

Finn is found by Hank in Colton’s shed with a fever caused by an infected cut in his hand. Finn left home because he blames himself for an accident involving his sister, but it was not his fault. He is desperate for forgiveness, but after eight years he fears he has left it too long.
Hank and Finn’s relationship starts out as a friend with benefits arrangement, but the more and more they spend in each others company, the more feelings become involved.
Spurred on by Hank, Finn goes looking for forgiveness from his family, leaving Hank behind. Both heartbroken and needing each other. Hank decides to go and get his man, and achieve their hea.
It is no secret that I love A. E. Jensen and her writing style. This book is no exception. It flows with the greatest of ease. Yes, it breaks your heart and you will cry, but it will also mend you, in the best way possible.
Hank is just the loveliest big bear of a man, and Finn is deserving of all the love possible. Together they are perfection.
Anja writes the best hurt/comfort books with an age gap. If you love this then please check out Loud Places (one of my favourite books, i have ever read), Occasional Fires and Saints (easily in my top ten of the year), and Home Then, where we first meet Hank and his nephew Colton.
This book is quite simply fantastic and must be read.

Don’t get me wrong I really enjoyed reading Glimpses of me and thought it had a really interesting beginning.
However the reason I’ve given it three stars is because I found that it really dragged in places and was very drawn out making it not as enjoyable.

With Glimpses of Him, AE Jensen has cemented her spot on my "auto-buy authors" list. I knew this one would hit hard, and it did. What a beautiful, wonderful story.
Glimpses of Him is a story about grief, about loss, about being lost and being found and finding home and being brave and second chances and, above all, about love. Hank is such a sweetheart, such a caretaker, and he suffered an unimagineable loss. Finn IS lost, in many ways, when Hank finds him and takes him in. They're both hurting and their story is the sweetest ache in the way that only excellently written hurt/comfort can be.
The way these two grew closer and formed a bond that was so deep and profound... God, it was beautiful. The way Hank refuses to let Finn hide and pushes him gently and with the utmost care... It's wonderful in a relatably painful way. And Hank's grief, so deep and aching, was presented so realistically, it took my breath away. And the intimacy between them? Not just spice (although that is fantastic too), but the intimacy. With the deep conversations and the quiet moments that are often so loud. It was just... Beautiful.
It's not often that I come across a book that presents grief and loss so painfully accurate, yet with so much hope. AE Jensen has a way with words that baffles me, honestly. Quietly profound, is the best I can describe it. And I highly recommend you check out her work, if you haven't already.

I love her for her beautiful writing and storytelling. I love her for her characters!!! Her boys always kill me in the best way. Hank and Finn were no different!! When she mentioned Jeff Buckley as part of Finn’s narrative, I knew exactly what I was supposed to feel and, did I fucking feel it. I’m tearing up now thinking of both Jeff and Finn and the desperate sadness they both endured.
On a lighter note, I have to call out the Days of Our Lives reference because that was excellent as well! 🤣
Anja, I just need you to know how much I loved these guys as I love all of your characters - but Hank just stood out to me in the most special way. How was I able to connect with a 59-year-old man so well, I don’t know, but I did!

Omg, this was so good. First, this author’s writing gives me life. I love the how she pulls you in and hits you all in the feels. Emotions all over the place. The Authors Note is everything I needed. As a person who has experience of abuse as a child, thank you for giving us words.
I loved these two. I love how they were there for each other, and talked to each other even when it was scary. I loved how they talked about grief and abandonment. Naming it and being there to help the other through it. The smexy was yummy and being able to catch up with Colton and Henry was nice.

This was the first book I ever read by Anja A.E. Jensen!
It was so beautifully written. My heart hurt so much for Hank to lose the one person in your life and not being able to move on. Finn oh how my heart broke for him. I love the whole dynamics between the both of them both dealing with loss and acceptance of each other. When I say I ugly cried I truly did ugly cry! The ending was beautiful yes you get a HEA BUT IT WAS A HARD EARNED ONE.

I was enjoying the story until the ‘daddy’ thing started. I’m sorry it’s just not my thing. There’s something about a grown man calling another man ‘daddy’ that grosses me out. Just my opinion obviously… no disrespect to anyone who likes this genre.

Second Chances
Having read and loved ‘Home Then’ I was so looking forward to reading ‘Glimpses of Him’. I wasn’t disappointed but I was surprised at the real meaning behind the title.
Hank is a 59 yo mechanic in Haley’s Peak, he lost the love of his life 8 years ago. Now living alone after his nephew Colton settled in with his boyfriend. One morning he was shocked to find a freezing heap hiding in a shed only to discover it was a human being, not a raccoon that his friend Tilly thought was raiding their restaurant waste bins.
When Hank took Finn Kennedy into his home and brought him back to life he had no idea how much these two men would need each other.
Reading of both their pasts I was brought to tears because of the fears that had about themselves and the hurt they carried within.
Hank fearful that he was too old for 35 year old Finn, and Finn so afraid of being abandoned again and again.
This is a beautifully constructed story and a pure delight of a read from the wonderful A.E.Jensen who always manages to weave good storytelling with all the feels that make her books a ‘must read’ and an excellent addition to anyone’s Want To Read List.
Next on my list now by A. E. is ‘Monumental’
Which looks like a very different setting altogether, a sporty tale which I also enjoy.

Glimpses of Him is a hurt/hurt story about two lost souls coming together and finding solace in each other. It's a beautiful story. Hank and Finn are both incredibly caring and likeable. I appreciated the authors note in the beginning about Finn's backstory and his trauma.
This story felt natural and real to me. The side characters in this tiny Nebraskan town were fleshed out in a way few stories are these days. The way in which Finn and Hank fell into each other was lovely, and the steam of the book was on point.
There's a bit of light Daddy kink, but mostly in the power dynamics and calling each other Daddy/boy (as well as some sexy spanking).
Overall a solid read.
My one petty gripe about the book was the naming convention of the characters. Why name two characters the same? Why have a Hank and a Henry (and later, a Harry?). There are millions of names to chose from, don't make it confusing. The first two chapters I literally thought the author was just going back and forth talking about the same character and using the nickname Hank for Henry before I realized these were two different people. Anyway - rant over. Still a solid, sweet read.

An emotional, hurt/comfort, age gap romance between two men who are stuck in a state of absolute grief. Though their journeys are not the same, they are able to find solace in each other.
To be honest, it takes a LOT to make me cry in a book. Like people will say ‘omg I cried so much’ and I won’t have shed a tear. But THIS book made me cry 3 separate times!
The characters are so heart-breakingly real. The emotions are so raw. The detail and almost poetic way that the book is written really drive home the emotional aspects as well. This couple is unconventional, yet they work so well. Their individual stories are so emotional in their own way, yet together they are also so impactful.

This book was good however it felt very drawn out and at some points, I was a bit over Finn as a character. I think his story, while I could see how he got his mindset, at times was a bit overthought and skewed his mindset way too much for him not to think rationally about the situation.
The book was good, it was not my favorite and I felt the heaviness of each character's past sat a bit weirdly with me when it was explained.

Glimpses of Him by A.E. Jensen is one of these amazing books I will remember and recommend to read.
Her writing style is unique, unexpected, and courageous. I love how she writes delicately about tropes like hurt/comfort, love after loss, and small-town in this book.
The story starts four years after the first book, Home Then. Hank's love of his life Eugene died seven years ago, and he still mourns him. He never thought to find love again. Yet fate has other plans and Eugene is watching over Hank.

And Hank is everything to Finn, what Finn needs. Hank is so good and strong human being who gives a home to Finn after 8 years of wandering.
It was such a joy to read about mature characters and their journey of healing. Day by day they get to know and love each other.
Our boys, Henry and Colton, are also there. I love everything about these two and their sweet dog. :) The bonus scene was so sweet, where Henry asks Colton to be his.

Finn and Hank needed each other so badly! They each had their own heartbreaks and pasts that affected them but together they found happiness, friendship and love. It was such an amazing story. Seeing them evolve together and forgive themselves for enjoying their happiness. I’m not usually a “daddy kink” fan but here it made sense and was something that fit them emotionally too which I really enjoyed! I’m also not a crier but somehow found myself tearing up several times because of how beautifully this book moved me.

@anjalovesbooks - You did it again, you wrote a stunning emotional hurt/comfort and blew me away with your beautiful characters and their real struggles, the kind a reader would identify with.
Anja writes about MCs who have had tough experiences and challenges, much like all of us, and they try to rise above it and try their hardest be good people. They are the kind of people you’d meet at a diner while road tripping with a friend, they are ordinary people with kind hearts and realistic back stories and Anja transforms this very simple story into an extraordinary book.
Glimpses of him is about Hank and Finn. Hank is a 59 year old man from a small town called Hayley’s Cove. He is struggling to come to terms with the loss of his lover, Eugene, who passed many years ago. Because of this, Hank has resigned himself to live a life of solitude, living in the memories of Eugene. Finn, a young drifter with a painful back story, ends up in Hayley’s Cove. Finn is a loner, he carries so much guilt about an incident from his past and is convinced that this makes him unlovable. As Fate would have it, Finn ends up wounded and broken in Hayley’s cove. Finn and Hank’s meeting is serendipitous, it was meant to be (it’ll all make sense once you read ‘Glimpses of him’), they find comfort in each other and form a friendship. One that is honest and true, one without any judgement and one that is based on openness and acceptance. There are heartbreaking moments in this book, difficult conversations were had because of which many tears were shed, it’s what makes this an absolutely beautiful hurt/comfort book.

It is a bittersweet moment having to say goodbye to Hayley's Peak...to the cold wintery mornings...the walks in the wild, wild woods...having lunch at Tilly's Diner while listening to Til regaling customers with hilarious stories cause seriously the forehead story is freaking top tier..😂🤣..and never knowing who will show up there on a given day right, titi?...Vern in the kitchen causing a ruckus with the pots and pans and calling Tilly's name...stopping by Henry's office to see whose pet he is taking care of that day...Hank and Colton carrying on in the garage while working on one of the towns peoples car...listening to the mourning doves singing their woeful songs in the trees...while sitting on the porch at Hank's cabin...Colton whispering his sweet and dirty words to Henry while hiking...Hank and Finn lazing by the creek having one of their Daddy and baby boy moments..Hank sneaking Louis treats behind Henry's back...just the peacefulness of it all in that small Nebraskan town..Anja, you gave us the perfect farewell...a second chance at love for a man with the caring heart...the one who deserved to see and feel love once again with a man who was written in the stars to be his...everything that happened during each of Hank's 59 years and Finn's 36 was perfectly laid out to bring those two men into each other's orbit...

I am beyond emotional. This book was truly an experience in emotional growth and learning to move on after losing a loved one.
I was sucked into Hank and Finn's story so quickly, and honestly, I don't think I ever want to leave it. I felt the pain, the love, everything in between. I cried, laughed, and even smiled the whole time I read this book.
This book is an absolute masterpiece and definitely will be added to my shelf for future rereads.
This book definitely deserves at least 20 stars.
Hank and Finn have definitely earned a place in my heart. ❤️
