It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a fortune should donate to a cat rescue.
Overworked PhD student Liz takes a break at the local cat café with her friend Jade, who wants to start a special needs cat rescue. When Jade pitches her idea to Carl, who is in charge of corporate giving for a rich local family, sparks fly between the two.
Meanwhile, snark flies between Liz and Carl's best friend, William. William seems stuffy and rude, and worst of all, he doesn’t like cats. William is intrigued by Liz even though every one of their interactions seems to go awry, in part due to his terrible cat allergy.
For the sake of their friends and the animals, the two figure out how to get along – until Liz learns some horrible things about William. But is she trusting the right person?
Then the feisty kitten Lydia disappears – perhaps stolen – and they have to overcome their differences in order to rescue her.

A fascinating tale that will appeal to both Austen fans and cat lovers, Pride and Prejudice at the Cat Café is a beautiful and endearing modern adaptation of Jane Austen's classic that skilfully combines humour, romance, and a love of cats. Being a cat lover and a follower of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, I was immediately drawn to this book's premise. It seemed like a fun and original take on a well-loved tale to reimagine the Bennet sisters as cats in a cat café, with Liz juggling her romantic relationships and PhD difficulties.
Non-Spoiler Plot Synopsis: The narrative centres on Liz, a PhD candidate who is having difficulty with her dissertation, and her strict advisor, Dr. Bennett. Liz is attracted into a world of cute kittens, oddball personalities, and a possible romance with the mysterious William when her best friend Jade invites her to the neighbourhood cat café. Liz must face her own biases and learn to trust her gut as she manages her academic difficulties and her developing affections for William. The book's excellent adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is among its best features. With the cat café acting as a beautiful backdrop, author Kris Bock does a fantastic job of bringing the traditional characters and ideas into a contemporary environment. The romance between Liz and William is endearing and fulfilling, and the kittens named after the Bennet sisters provide a humorous touch. There is a lot of humour and passion in the writing, which is lively and captivating. The characters' interactions feel genuine, and the banter is humorous. Naturally, the cats are the story's high point, and their antics give it a humorous and affectionate touch. This novel was a lovely escape to read. It was the ideal light read because of the romance, humour, and cats, and I could not help but smile the entire time. Liz's self-discovery journey and her developing bond with William were both endearing and motivational. The book also made me realise how important it is to be true to who you are and not let other people's expectations control your course.
This is the kind of book that makes you smile from the very first page. This is a story that is romantic, funny, and heartwarming. I was hooked from the moment Liz and William first crossed paths, and their slow-burn romance had me absolutely invested.
The way their relationship develops is natural and satisfying. Liz is a strong, determined protagonist with a sharp wit, and William, despite his initial grumpiness, proves to be kind and thoughtful underneath. The tension between them is perfect, not too dramatic, not too rushed. Plus, the cat café setting adds such a cozy, comforting element to the story. The cats have their own personalities, and I loved how they mirrored and influenced the relationships of the human characters.
This book does a fantastic job of blending romance with personal development. Liz’s struggles with her PhD and William’s reluctance to open up feel incredibly real and relatable. It’s a story about love, but it’s also about learning to trust yourself and take chances. If you want a book that will make you feel warm, happy, and hopeful, this one is for you!
Some books are meant to challenge you. Others? They’re meant to wrap you up in a hug and this one is definitely the latter. From page one, I felt like I’d stepped into the cozy world of the Furrever Friends Cat Café, and honestly, I never wanted to leave.
It’s got everything I love in a feel-good romance: snappy dialogue, complex but lovable characters, and a setting that makes you want to drop everything and move into a quaint little town with a cat-filled café. The relationships both romantic and platonic feel authentic, with just enough tension to keep things interesting.
What I appreciated most was how fun this book is. Yes, there are emotional beats, but there’s also humor, charm, and a general lightness that makes it the perfect weekend read. And the cats! They have just as much personality as the humans, and their antics will make any animal lover smile.
This book is like a warm drink on a chilly day; soothing, satisfying, and something you’ll want to come back to again and again. If you need a pick-me-up or just love a good love story with heart (and whiskers), don’t hesitate to pick this one up.
This book gave me all the warm and fuzzy feelings, and I couldn’t put it down. There are some books that just feel like a hug, and this book is definitely one of them. The characters felt like real people, with real struggles and emotions.
The romance between Liz and William is charming and perfectly paced. It’s a modern take on the classic enemies-to-lovers trope, with witty banter, emotional depth, and just the right amount of tension. But what truly sets this book apart is the cat café backdrop.
The presence of so many adorable, mischievous cats adds so much charm to the story! It’s the kind of unique setting that makes you want to curl up with a warm drink and a blanket while you read.
Beyond the romance, this book also touches on important themes like career struggles, self-doubt, and taking risks. Liz’s journey felt so authentic, and I found myself cheering for her as much as I was for her and William’s relationship. If you love romance novels with a bit of depth, lovable characters, and plenty of adorable cats, this is a book you don’t want to miss.
If you’re looking for a warm, comforting read with a delightful romance and adorable feline companions, this book is the perfect book for you! This story is sweet and engaging, blending a classic romance theme with a modern setting feels fresh and inviting.
The characters are so well-written that they feel like people you could run into at your favorite local coffee shop. Liz is relatable, struggling with her PhD and personal doubts, while William is the perfect mix of brooding and charming. Their interactions are filled with tension, humor, and undeniable chemistry. And let’s not forget the stars of the show, the cats! The café setting adds an extra layer of coziness, making this book a joy to read from start to finish.
The story isn’t just about romance; it’s about finding your own path, letting go of past insecurities, and embracing new opportunities. By the end, I was left with a happy heart and the urge to visit a cat café immediately! If you love sweet romances, witty banter, and a touch of feline magic, this book is an absolute must-read.
I wasn’t expecting to fall so hard, but here I am, completely in love with this book. The best elements of classic romance are blended in this story easily into a heartwarming, modern love story that is impossible to resist.
The dynamic between Liz and William is spot-on. Their initial misunderstandings and slow-growing attraction keep things interesting, and their chemistry is undeniable. I especially loved Liz’s character, she’s intelligent, ambitious, and a little bit skeptical about love, which made her journey all the more satisfying. And of course, the cats! They add such an endearing touch to the story, making every scene in the café feel vibrant and full of life.
What really makes this book special is its message about personal growth and finding happiness in unexpected places. It’s about love, yes, but it’s also about believing in yourself and being open to new possibilities. The writing is crisp and engaging, the humor is delightful, and the romance is simply beautiful. If you need a feel-good read that will leave you smiling, this book is a fantastic choice!
This book is everything I love in a romance, funny, charming, and full of heart. The modern twist on a beloved classic is done so well, and I was completely invested in Liz and William’s story from the start.
The balance between romance and personal development was so good. Liz and William both have their own struggles and aspirations, making them feel like fully realized characters rather than just a romantic pairing. Their journey together is sweet, occasionally frustrating (in the best way), and ultimately so rewarding.
And let’s talk about the setting, because I absolutely adored the cat café! The way the cats were incorporated into the story made it even more engaging. They added humor, comfort, and even a bit of matchmaking in their own feline way.
If you love romance novels with well-developed characters, a fun and unique setting, and plenty of lighthearted moments, this book is a must-read. It’s the kind of story that makes you laugh & swoon.
I didn’t expect was how deeply this book would touch me. It’s more than just a fun romance; it’s a story about second chances, personal growth, and learning to open your heart again.
The heroine, Hazel, is instantly relatable. She’s smart, passionate about her work, and just a little wary of love—something I think many of us can understand. And then there’s Joel, a man who initially comes off as reserved, even a little grumpy, but has layers of kindness and warmth underneath. Their relationship unfolds in a way that feels natural, sweet, and entirely satisfying.
The cat café setting is absolutely adorable. Every feline has a personality, and Kris Bock does an amazing job weaving them into the story in a way that feels genuine and heartwarming. If you’re an animal lover, you’re going to be hooked from page one.
This book gave me all the cozy, feel-good vibes I needed, and it’s perfect for anyone who loves sweet romance, adorable animals, and stories with a lot of heart.
From the first hilarious scene to the last heartwarming moment, Pride and Prejudice at the Cat Café is an absolute delight. Liz and William’s dynamic is hilariously awkward, full of misunderstandings, and completely irresistible. He’s all stoic businessman vibes, she’s all snarky academic energy, and when you throw them into a café filled with playful, mischievous cats? Chaos. Absolute chaos. And I loved every second of it.
This book has so much charm and warmth beyond just the romance. The cat café itself is a place of hope, second chances, and belonging. Liz’s journey isn’t just about love; it’s about finding herself, learning to trust, and embracing joy in unexpected places. Watching William soften, open up, and completely fall for both Liz and the café was pure magic.
If you need a book that will make you laugh, swoon, and feel all kinds of warm and fuzzy inside, then you need this book in your life.
Liz and William’s dynamic is pure chef’s kiss. The tension, the misunderstandings, the reluctant attraction! William starts off as the perfect grumpy hero, but as the story unfolds, his layers are peeled back, revealing someone far more complex and compelling. And Liz? She’s smart, snarky, and determined—exactly the kind of leading lady I love.
And let’s talk about the cats. Oh, the cats! They aren’t just background fluff (pun intended). Each feline has a personality, and they add such warmth and hilarity to the story. I found myself giggling at their antics while also clutching my heart over the emotional depth of the novel.
Kris Bock has written a warm, witty, and utterly charming love story that will make you believe in second chances, the magic of pets, and the power of unexpected love. If you adore romance with humor, heart, and whiskers, you need this book in your life!
Liz and William’s romance is the definition of slow burn, and I loved every second of it. Their initial misunderstandings lead to some wonderfully tense moments, but underneath it all, there’s this undeniable pull between them. Liz is brilliant, stubborn, and hilarious, while William is the perfect mix of gruff, socially awkward, and secretly soft-hearted.
And let’s not forget the star-studded cat cast. These furry troublemakers bring so much joy, humor, and even some emotional depth to the story. The café itself feels like a safe haven, not just for the cats but for the characters who find themselves there.
Kris Bock’s writing is effortlessly charming, balancing humor, romance, and heartwarming moments in a way that kept me hooked. If you love feel-good stories with loveable characters, witty banter, and just the right amount of swoon, do yourself a favor and pick this book up!
This is a modern take on Pride and Prejudice, this is a sweet, funny, and charming book. Being a cat lover I was really excited to read this. The idea of turning the Bennet sisters into kittens in a cat cafe was such a fun twist. Liz is trying to balance her PhD and love life.
The author does a good job of making the original story her own. The cat cafe was a fresh and unique idea. The romance between the characters is sweet & the Bennet cats are so funny. The writing is fun and easy to read, with great conversations and plenty of cute moments.
The Bennet cats were really my fav part of the book. And also Liz’s journey of learning about herself and her growing relationship with William were both really nice to see.
This book is everything I love about romantic fiction—playful, smart, and brimming with heartfelt moments. Liz is such a relatable heroine—struggling with her PhD, dealing with self-doubt, and finding unexpected solace in a room full of cats
But what truly makes this story shine is the emotional depth woven into every interaction. While it’s sweet and lighthearted, it also explores themes of self-worth, personal growth, and learning to let go of the past. It’s not just a romance; it’s a story about finding where you belong and who belongs with you.
Kris Bock has created a novel that will warm your heart and tickle your funny bone in equal measure. If you love books that feel like a cozy blanket and a cup of cocoa on a rainy day, this is the one for you.
I went into this book expecting a cute romance with cats—and I got so much more. Pride and Prejudice at the Cat Café is funny, heartwarming, and deeply satisfying, with characters who feel so real you want to text them after finishing the book.
Liz is all of us—stressed, overworked, and wondering if she’s on the right path in life. William is the perfectly flawed romantic lead, with his brooding charm and hidden softness. Their romance feels earned—full of little moments that make you believe in love again.
This book made me feel things. It will remind you that love isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth the risk. Whether you’re a cat person or just a sucker for a beautifully written love story, this book will steal your heart.
Pride and Prejudice at the Cat Cafe is just what it sounds like, and it's absolutely delightful. I've read a few variations of P&P over the years, but this is by far the best one. I loved it so much!
The setting was immersive (the cat cafe was adorable), and the plot felt well-developed. I also really enjoyed the character development. Both MCs are a little grumpy, but they warmed up in their own unique ways. The romantic tension between them was excellent. I so enjoyed watching them start as [not quite] enemies, then grow into allies, before transitioning to friends, and finally... well, if you've read P&P, you know what happens.
If you like modern romances, P&P retellings, and cats, definitely check this out. You won't be disappointed!
I won a Kindle copy of this book through Goodreads Giveaways. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.
In the beginning, I found the characters a bit bland. I had a hard time remembering which one was Jade and which one was Liz. But as the story went on, more of their personalities shone through, and I had no problem. I do wish a couple of the characters got more time to develop, though.
I found the concept of a love story centered around a cat cafe to be a cute idea. The pacing was good. It was a quick read and entertaining.
Really enjoyable story. I love these stories from The Cat Cafe. Two different couples take center stage here. Jade and Carl hit it off right from the start. William and Liz have lots of issues to deal with between them. Had fun reading this one. Great characters and engaging storyline. I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
This was a quick, cute read and I enjoyed it. There were a couple characters that I feel like could have been left out entirely and made no difference to the story, but it was cute.
I really enjoyed this book. I love cats and the fact that they were such a part of the book made me love it even more. The story of Liz and William was good even if it was a little predictable but there's nothing wrong with that.
3.5 Loved the unique story line. Writing seemed forced or awkward at times. Felt ending was a littke too abrupt. Will continue to read other books by this author.
