Welcome to Poppy's Parisian Pâtisserie, the sixth book in a brand new series from the author of the Hummingbird Hotel series and the Cornish Confetti Agency series.
Daisy James loves writing stories with strong heroines and swift-flowing plot-lines. She especially likes to create sunshine-filled settings in exotic locations - the Caribbean, Tuscany, Cornwall, Provence - so she can spend her time envisioning her characters enjoying the fabulous scenery and sampling the local food and drink.
When not scribbling away in her peppermint-and-green summerhouse (garden shed), she spends her time sifting flour and sprinkling sugar and edible glitter. She loves gossiping with friends over a glass of something fizzy or indulging in a spot of afternoon tea - china plates and teacups are a must.
I love this series so much, and I'd been looking forward to reading this, as Paris is one of my favorite cities. Ah, the romance of the city of light! Some loose ends are tied up from previous books, and Poppy's story not only moves the plot of the series onward, but is a delightful story in its own right. And now to impatiently await Christmas and Chloe's story.
Two books in a row about Paris and food, if it wasn’t for Covid I think I’d be eating every piece of cake or bread in sight, not that I usually need at excuse !I haven’t been to Paris or France, but it’s really something I must do as I love history, food, gorgeous buildings and the more I read the more everyone is making me want to go, but maybe I’ll wait awhile at the moment with the Olympics ☺️
Poppy’s Parisian Patisserie is the sixth book in The Blossomwood Bay series, but each book in this series can be read as a stand-alone, personally because I love Daisy’s writing and her beautiful stories I don’t know why you’d want to just read one and not the rest, but I am a book addict (and proud cat/dog lady) if you haven’t read a Daisy James book before, be forewarned you’re going to want to go read the rest!
I loved Poppy so much, my heart broke for her, egged her on, was with her throughout the story as her number one cheerleader, I love when a story gets me so attached to a character that I want them to be real so I could be friends with them ! The supporting cast of characters is just perfect as always, so many unique personalities and speaking of characters Olivier’s mother Helene is just wonderful, I loved her so much and I want to be Helene when I grow up.
Poppy’s Parisian Patisserie is a delight to read, the wonderful characters, descriptions and story will make you want to travel to Paris and have your own adventure.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
I received an advanced review copy of this book, to review as part of a tour with Rachel's Random Resources.
On first impressions, I really liked the lighthearted tone of the writing, and there was a cosy atmosphere that I found myself warming to. I took a liking to the protagonist, Poppy, and her friends too. I was excited to see what was in store for Poppy later on.
Reading on, I found there were lots of likeable characters, and I enjoyed getting to know them all. I felt the atmosphere of Paris, and in that sense, the book felt like an escape. It was a lovely romantic read too, but I didn't feel the romance dominated the story. I also appreciated the food theme!
This was a tasty, feel-good read that I enjoyed, and I think it would be a good choice if you're looking for a book to escape with for a little while.
Thank you to Rachel's Random Resources, and to the author and publisher, for the opportunity to read and review this.
Poppy has the chance to go to Paris and work with a French pastry chef. Within days she meets a handsome chef. I didn’t realize this was part of a series but it does seem to stand alone. It’s a nice easy to read romantic book. It has a bit of a mystery that Poppy and her coworker try to solve. It’s the perfect beach read.
I absolutely love this series, and a book featuring Poppy, Paris and Parisian was far too tempting to leave on my kindle unread for long.
This is certainly a book that will make you wish to be in Paris, and will also make you hungry. Daisy James always has a wonderful knack of mixing fabulous settings and delicious sounding food, with a dollop of romance too and this was no exception.
Poppy really steps out of her comfort zone to go to Paris for a few weeks, after a series of bad dates, her not being needed at work for a few weeks, and a plumbing disaster at home, in order to help out her brother's friend Olivier at his Patisserie.
Her new landlord for the next few weeks is Olivier's mother, who is a tonic and I want to be her when I'm older. She and her best friend were constantly going to different classes, trying new activities and basically living live to its fullest.
Poppy also makes some new friends, in the patisserie and its surrounding area, including meeting by chance amazing chef Fabien.
I loved seeing Poppy grow in confidence as the story progresses, and also that we are able to catch up with the leading ladies of many of the other books in this series, as we continue to wonder what on earth will ever happen with the beach huts in Blossomwood Bay.
This was a joy to read, and I had a massive smile on my face as I was devouring the pages. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Thank you the author for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This is another escapist read by Daisy James which whisks you off to Paris this time. You can certainly picture the city as you accompany Poppy there and it captures all the romance and excitement of the place. Poppy takes a leap of faith when she decides to take up the offer of work there. She has come to recognise that she has shielded herself from taking a risk and has settled for the very familiar. Her travels to Paris take her right outside her comfort zone. There is a variety of characters who Poppy is introduced to who all have their own individual style, nobody more so than her landlady who involves her in some interesting activities! Style seems to be very much part of Poppy's new life. Poppy has a strong sense of fairness and she struggles at times with some of the actions of her new friends, despite their good intentions. It is great to see her develop as a character and begin to grow up. In short: love is in the air Thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book
First up, I had no idea this was part of a series, it read perfectly as a standalone and I didn't feel I'd missed out on anything.
Romance is on the menu, we're in the city of love and Poppy's dreams are about to come true. She's dreamed of owning her own patisserie for a long time, so when she's offered the chance to take the helm at Pâtisserie Madeline she's in her element. The added bonus is that the patisserie is in Paris, the city of love.
The characters are très bien, Poppy my favourite by far. I immediately found myself emotionally invested in her character and loved how she came into her own and grew in confidence.
The book will immediately have you running to your nearest patisserie to stock up on sweet treats; éclairs, macaroons and mille fuille. I probably put on a stone or two just reading the book!
An absolute delight to read and will happily recommend both author and book.
I love that each book takes us to a different country 🩵
Poppy ends up in Paris to help her brother's friend in his patisserie after a skiing accident caused him 2 broken wrists. In Devon, with the bistro closing for a couple of weeks where Poppy has been helping out, and a flood at her parent's home where she lives, the opportunity couldn't have come at a better time; as scary as it may seem for her. Whilst in Paris, Poppy meets lots of new people, including an eccentric landlady, a fashionable and very unique girl friend, 2 very French brothers that are also currently her bosses, and a very handsome restaurant owner just down the road. Poppy learns to embrace time, fun, enjoy Paris for what it is, and become the confident and happy person she used to be before she was betrayed by her ex and maybe even find someone herself in the city of love.
I hadn't realised this was part of a series and read it as standalone without any issues.
When Poppy is offered the chance to help her brother's friend at his Patisserie in Paris she takes the plunge and goes, as life is at a bit of a standstill in Blossomwood Bay.
As she is settling in Paris, Poppy meets many interesting characters, both inside and out of the Patisserie. Some of these characters are larger than life and add some fun to the story. I enjoyed Poppy's friendship with Camille.
The descriptions of Paris, the Patisserie goods and Fabien's restaurant are all very vivid and make you wish you were there.
A lovely romance, set in a beautiful city, which makes for a perfect summer read.
Oh la la! A delightful read filled with delectable treats and chic characters set in Paris the city of love. I immediately wanted to go visit this beautiful setting and sample all the patisserie treats, an absolutely gorgeous read.
Lovely story with sudden unexpected twists along the way, loved following Poppy on her journey to Paris, now need to get the next book! It’s so well written with believable characters that you feel the need to know more, what happens next?
This started out well, but fairly soon devolved into almost a Harlequin-esgue formulaic romance. There wasn't one unexpected twist or development. I liked most of the characters, but the stereotypical wacky older women were a bit much, and the ridiculous trope of someone lending Our Heroine something very expensive simply because he likes her at their initial meeting will always annoy me. She's a complete stranger to everyone!
