King of Nothing

Rate this book
I met him when my ship was sinking, and I clung to him through the storm. Little did I know he needed me as much as I needed him.

The first time I saw Roman Dante King, he stuck out like an odd puzzle piece that got mixed up in the wrong box. It wasn’t his blue eyes in the dim light of the bar, the tattoos that covered his arms and hands, or even his arrogant personality. It was something else—something I couldn’t see—that told me he didn’t belong in our small beach town on the Oregon coast.

Elora Mazie Barlow reminded me of a hummingbird zipping from one flower to another, never stopping, never allowing anyone more than a glimpse before she was gone. Never letting anyone in… until me. Then she gave me her smiles that were more valuable than anything I ever owned and wrapped me in her peace without asking for anything in return.

Her tragic story sounded achingly familiar to my own.

Our connection is knotted up in loss. The journey we’re on together will eventually come to an end. But will we be able to untangle the mess of strings that have tied us together?

Will we even want to?

This one was more emotional than anything 2 broken ppls coming together for a journey.

Elora, a poor girl, lost her mother and was fighting with her family over family stuff because she wanted to spread her mother's ashes at the places she wanted to see. That's where she meets a drunk off his ass Roman who was dealing with the death of his brother. The two hit it off well when they kept bumping into each other and talking about the reasons and life.

Roman enjoyed being around her he went to the road with her because he was protective and didn't want her alone during this time. It was sweet and little emotional. And we have the family drama when they visit Roman and Elora sides. It wasn't a lot, just enough drama.

Saftey- MMC had a woman in his bed in the Prologue nothing happens, he also mentioned he wanted to use a condom with FMC because he had sex with someone awhile ago and wanted to be safe Besides that, nothing else.

No ow/om drama, no cheating, drama, sexy times, no virgins

I read the dedication and that’s the moment that I was pulled heart and soul into this book. There is nothing about Elora that could make me love her any less. She is absolutely amazing as she works her way through her grief and heart ache. I wasn’t sure about Roman at first, but I fell in love with him right along with Elora. This book pulled every emotion from me and I’m left feeling… happy. Love this story!!! ❤️

And download and read the bonus epilogue!! So good!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

King of Nothing is a truly incredible romance between two people who are dealing with grief, and the journey they go on in which they find themselves and their happiness in each other.
This book had me in a chokehold!! I sobbed, laughed, swooned, and was even giddy with happiness. Elora and Roman’s story is an emotional roller coaster for sure and it’s beautiful.
I fell in love with these two instantly!! Elora is so strong, and I adore her for doing what she wants despite her family telling her not to. Roman is an alpha, super protective, and very sweet, but only to Elora. They have an undeniable connection with off the charts chemistry that made their relationship perfection! I love how they become each other’s safe space and how they are always there for each other from the moment they meet.
Honestly, this book stole my heart and it’s definitely a favourite from one of my favourite authors! I highly recommend reading this book, especially if you’re looking for an emotional and amazing romance!

Spoilers ahead

After the death of her beloved mother from cancer Elora leaves her small hometown in Wyoming to road trip to areas her mother wanted to visit and scatter her ashes at these places. She makes a stop for a few months and gets a job at a small hotel, cleaning and working the bar. One night she's asked to escort a drunken tenant to his room.

Roman is left feeling after the death of his younger brother and the connection to his own private life. He takes off after his brother's funeral and ends up at the hotel where Elora works. Drowning his sorrows she escorts him to his room, the two bond in their mutual sorrow and he decides to go with Elora on her travels thereby making his own peace with this brother's death.

********
1) In reference to both quotes below, I assume the woman we meet him with is his on again off again girlfriend who he finds out cheated on him and got pregnant by his younger brother. The author doesn't clarify but I assume. He's with her months before he meets the h. After her he isn't with anyone else and we get nothing else that implies he was a manwhore.
2) I've known this author for her insta love books and while there is a connection between the two this book was actually more emotional especially as they're both dealing with loss of a loved one.
3) Roman has some asshole moments but I really enjoyed the relationship between the mcs. He was deliciously j/p Alpha sometimes asshole just how I like em
4)******** No third act breakup!!!!!!!!!!!! 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿 that's an extra star just for that, I'm beyond tired of that bs
5) All the drama comes from outside the relationship, they're both dealing with family drama
All in all it's been a little while since I read ARR but this just reminded me of why she's been an auto buy for me since my very first book by her

Thoughts While reading

Surprisingly enough this is one of the better ones from this author imo.

“What?” I bark, and the naked female sprawled out on the other side of the mattress opens her eyes to look at me.

When I tell you I did not expect to stumble across that scene in a ARR book😔

“We don’t have a condom, and the first time I come with you, I’m coming inside you.”
“I’m o—”
“Don’t tell me you’re on birth control, Elora. As much as I’d love to fuck you with nothing between us, I’m not doing it. I get tested often, but I’ve had a partner since the last time. No way in hell am I putting you at risk.”

ARR....... let's never do this again 😭. It's responsible of him but not something I expected from this author

Wow, this was so good. And really emotional.

And I loved it.

A story of two people who are grieving the loss of a family member. She lost her mom, he lost his brother. They meet by accident and click and somehow manage to lift each other up and help the other one to mourn and to say their goodbyes throughout their journey.

And I really loved that part.

It was so unlike anything i read from Reynolds, I gotta say, I was very surprised. And I loved it.

No insta ants in the pants, no jumping to bed right away, no annoying heroine.

There was depth, great characters and a very enjoyable read.

Highly recommend! 💟💟💟

Uuuuuuhhhhhhhh.........I didn't know this was a book about romance grief! Is that a trope? When both H and h have a dead loved one and they go on a trip to spread ashes of said dead ones and then fuck? 😳😳😳😳🤷🤔🤔🤔🤔😂 not to be facetious?...... Well, maybe a little bit.....

To be fair, there was a lovely dedication to the authors mom in the very beginning so I think ahe was working through some thangs?

She's working as a housekeeper and at a bar to make money on the road. Shes closing up and has to take H back to his room because of course you would ask a single god woman to carry a drunken idiot back to his room where he could still attack her or whatever 🤔🤔🤔🙄

For some reason (she's hawt), he starts hanging around her and finds out she's driving all over the usa, visiting landmarks that she and her mom wanted to visit but her mom died before they could visit them all. he decides to join her and together they visit San fran, Vegas (I really thought he would habe her married to him there but alas no....) Before he's called home since his grandma Diana had a stroke. She finds out he's rich as fuck. His step dad has issues with her and thinks she's a prostitute he picked up while in vegas 🤷🤷💩

Meanwhile, she has land that she needs to sell and he ends up buying it (duh! He rich bitch *Dave chappelle voice*!!!) And she has some family drama who want the land but Domt wanna pay for it (sounds like a certain presidential nominee and his beautiful wall). And the guys drama was that his ex was in love with his brother who died (that's why he got drunk that first night) and ended up pregnant with his brothers baby.

They end up saying I love yous and have kids.

She cries a lot. The number of times her "nose starts to sting" cuz she gonna cry mah gah 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄😂

This is not the aurora rose Reynolds of yore.....this new ARRs men are not as puahy, dominant, alpha like they used to be and it makes me sad.

oh my heart!

The absolute best thing about this book is how it’s completely focused on the main couple. 98% of the book is all about them together as a team starting out as strangers, all the way to then end they grow into a solid family unit. You could not ask for more of these two together. I loved it!

This is a beautifully emotional story of two grieving people sharing a journey of healing and finding unexpected love along the way. A standalone story with lots of heart, I loved this one.

Roman and Elora meet while they’re both visiting a small coastal town. They have both been shattered by grief, and have left their lives behind as they try to deal with their losses. While Roman is dealing with the recent death of his brother, Elora is trying to move on after the death of her mother, and she’s about to embark on a road trip to scatter her mother’s ashes at special locations across the country. Both experiencing the same gutwrenching emotions, they form an unexpected connection, and when Roman invites himself along on Elora’s road trip, their journey will change both of their lives forever.

He’s just as lost as I am, maybe more so, and that makes me feel connected to him in some twisted way.

Though the book starts off with the characters in a dark place, making us feel their desperate sense of loss and loneliness, their trip together is one of healing as they come to terms with their losses and start to find happiness again. They grow close, leaning on each other to get them through such a difficult time, and they easily, naturally, and quite unexpectedly, fall for each other.

“You’ve given me more than you realize, Elora.” He presses his lips against my ear and continues in a quiet whisper, “And one part of that is a feeling of happiness that isn’t mixed up with money or things. It’s pure and good, and everything fucking normal I didn’t know I was missing out on until you.”

This is such a beautifully written story. There’s so much emotion, and it’s written in a way that is real, and respectful of the depth of emotion that the characters are experiencing. Their recovery is slow but realistic, and their support of each other through their healing is really sweet. In addition to their grief, Roman and Elora are also dealing with some complex family dynamics, which adds an extra layer of intensity to their story.

The romance is gorgeous. Roman and Elora are honest with each other, they don’t hide anything, they are functional together, and their love story feels so real. They are there for each other, they care for and support each other, the feelings are heartfelt, passionate and intense, and I loved watching them fall so deeply in love.

“I’m in love with you, Elora,” he bites out, and my lips part in surprise. “So, you can have all the time you need to figure out what you want to do with your life, but you’ll do it going to sleep next to me every night.”

It’s a great journey, and there is some unexpected drama along the way, but I loved seeing these two stay strong, have each other’s back’s unquestionably, and figure out their future together sensibly, honestly, and without unnecessary angst.

Such a gorgeous read – 4 stars.

This ended up being a sweet story.
Dual POV.
At the start the Hero wakes in bed with a random woman, no details but I don't understand why this is necessary, I think its to portray the cold life the Hero has led and how it changes with the heroine but....sigh.
The heroine has broken off an engagement to her childhood sweetheart.
A bit slow burn but the Hero is all about her he just doesn't realise it.
They are both dealing with grief, loss of a loved one.

HEA.

I was kindly provided with this book (censorship is BS and I hate it but here we are!)

Wow top marks for an ARC!

The plot - This is a rich meets poor romance, with forced proximity, grumpy X sunshinr, topics of grief and loss and healing. With found family in there too. Smut was 2.5/5 on the spice scale. It is a HEA and such a sweet one I loved those two..
There are no words to explain the journey these two took. It was mature whilst also being bittersweet and just the right amount of insecurity to give it the push of angst.

The MC - Elora is our badass, I don’t need anyone FMC. She’s been through so much shit, but she’s stronger than it all and I loved her.

The male counterpart - Roman was a surprisingly complex character. He had a stoic silence about him but when he opened up? Magical. The vulnerability he showed was nothing short of melting.

I am soooo in love with this book!!! King of Nothing will sweep you off your feet! It is beautifully written and has all of the "feels." It will pull you in. I did not want to put this book down!

Elora and Roman meet under unusual circumstances. They couldn't be more different. But they have one thing in common - grief. They become two lost souls who are healing each other. I want to say so much more but I don't want to spoil the story for anyone. Please, go in "blind."

Fall in love with Roman and Elora! Take this amazing journey that will take you on a roller-coaster of emotions. Elora is so strong and beautiful. Kind and generous. She gives her heart so freely. Roman is buried deep within himself. His strength is ever present. Elora chips away at his shield by just being herself.

I met him when my ship was sinking, and I clung to him through the storm. Little did I know he needed me as much as I needed him.

I am a huge fan of Aurora Rose Reynolds, and she has outdone herself! This is the next level of romance. There is also just the right amount of sexy times. Nothing over the top and no extreme amounts. I am just in love with this book! I highly recommend King of Nothing.

I did not expect this book to grab hold of my heart and emotions the way it did. I mean, I know Aurora is known for her emotional reads but literally the first chapter and I was crying like a baby! I cried for almost the entire book.

You’ll enjoy this book if you like these tropes… ❣︎

♥ Hurt/Comfort
✿ Redemption/Self-Discovery
♥ Road Trip
✿ MC’s From Different Worlds
♥ Secret Billionaire
✿ Broken FMC & MMC With Emotional Scars
♥ Alpha Hero
✿ Touch Her & Die Vibes
♥ Soft Only For Her
✿ HEA
♥ Grief
✿ Cancer Rep
♥ Possessive & Protective MMC
✿ Undeniable Attraction

I absolutely love Elora. Her life was turned upside down when her mother passed away from cancer and while she grieves her, she embarked on an emotional journey to fulfil a dream her mother wanted, which was to see different parts of the country. She meets Roman at the hotel when she’s currently working and she discovers he is also grieving after losing his brother. As they are both going through similar heartache and pain, they seem to connect on a level that only they understand.

There is something about Elora that Roman is drawn to. Her beauty and her kindness. He doesn’t understand it, but he can’t help but want to be around her, to spend every moment with her.

Roman is possessive, pushy, moody, stubborn and overbearing but it comes from his heart. He will do everything and anything he can to make sure Elora is safe. He’s not the best at communicating how he feels but he definitely knows how to show it. He will do anything for Elora and he proves that over and over. However, he’s drowning in guilt over how his brother passed away and he knows if he opens up to Elora completely and tells her the truth, he risks losing her.

Roman and Elora were perfectly imperfect together. The chemistry between the two of them was undeniable. I loved them both so much. Both were so strong, so resilient. They met under unusual circumstances and they couldn’t be more different but grief brings them together. Two tortured souls healing together. It was beautiful and nothing like I had read before.

It was such an emotional read for me.. losing someone especially a parent to cancer really hit home. I can relate to Elora so much and relate to what she has gone through…I lost my dad to cancer. I also lost my late husband to cancer a few years later. So, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make it through the entire book… a few times I had to sit my Kindle down and take a break and a good cry but I’m so glad I continued because it truly was an amazing read. It was a story of grief, loss, sorrow, pain, heartache and healing. It was about finding love and taking chances. It was truly heartbreakingly beautiful.

5 STARS!

Roman and Elora are kind of perfect together. Both going through things, both trying to find their way, and both wishing that they weren’t alone in this journey. Even if one won’t admit it, their acts prove that they are 100% in for anything that comes their way. Between making sure they’re both fed, well-rested, supported and cared for, and simply supported in every way makes this a story you won’t want to put down.

I have to admit that I adore Roman, too. He’s not big on words, but man, does he show his feelings. He can’t stand for Elora to be uncomfortable for even a second, he doesn’t want her to be alone, and he also knows that if he tells her the whole truth, he might lose her. Or he fears that he will. That doesn’t stop the truth from coming out in little ways before the big secrets are revealed though. And the fact that he and Elora communicate wonderfully, even as one of them learns to shake the rust off of those skills, means that nothing can stop them when they stick together.

As for Elora, oh, I adore her. She’s strong and willing to go it alone. But she’s also willing to let her heart want Roman. Luckily, he handles hers with just as much care as she does his, and she also shows that same care to his entire family (even when it may not be deserved). She is a bit of a miracle worker and helps a whole swath of people learn to love what they have and enjoy the moment, so who wouldn’t want her in their life?

This is an excellent tale of mourning, dealing with loss, finding love, and taking a chance. And it’s a chance you’ll be so glad you took, trust me.

This was such a beautifully done story. I sit here and still have tears streaming down my face, not a goofy smile this time, but still a smile that I got the chance to read this. Roman and Elora's gave us such a great story, filled with guilt, grief, chemistry that radiated off the pages, an over-the-top alpha that was freaking perfect. I give this 5 huge gold stars!

Oh my heart! This is one of those stories told in a quiet, calming, manner, with everything unfolding and being presented by, and to, our characters. That isn’t to say it didn’t have an impact, because it tore straight into heart from the very beginning. Elora and Roman, blossomed? discovered? no, they became themselves while growing and having shared, but differing, experiences together. I loved every second, every moment, every stop, they made, and am privileged I got to take this journey with them <3

Roman and Elora’s story was written so beautifully! They both are grieving in their own way and they both find their way to each other. Roman definitely is the silent grumpy alpha, but with Elora she brings out the softer side of him. He meets her at bar where she works, she helps him to his room after a very drunk night, he sees her and immediately feels the connection. When he learns of her loss, so similar to his own, that connection increases exponentially. They both learn to heal with one another and they embark on a beautiful journey to find peace and happiness.

I absolutely loved their story. All the feelings I felt reading their story was huge and a roller coaster ride for sure. Elora is so strong and knows what she is doing is right and does not let anyone stop her. Roman is there for her every step of the way. He does everything and anything for her to stay safe and comfortable. Overall, this was such a fantastic read, an absolute 5-star!

Roman Dante King & Elora Barlow might be strangers but the sadness each is coping with is very similar. One meeting at a bar wallowing in grief could be the beginning of them both helping each other start to heal. Can they find solace with one another or once the healing begins will they realize grief was the only thing that drew them together? This is a slower paced journey from friends to lovers however, once the road trip begins it picked up for me. A touching romance about finding a way to heal after tragedy and those who help you along the way. Roman is a sweetheart for sure! Told in first person and dual POV.

Wow!!! This was more than a love story. It a story of a healing journey and a journey where you find your soulmate in unexpected places. It’s a story about a soul tie that is chosen by destiny and I loved it.

Elora loses her mother to cancer and she embarks on a journey to fulfill her mom’s dreams. She meets Roman at the hotel where she works and she learns that he lost his brother. She and Roman are two people who are grieving and going through the motions. They become friends and Roman appoints himself as Elora’s
Protector. He goes with her on her journey of healing and realises that he is healing and releasing his pain in the process. On this healing journey, Roman and Elora find a profound love. The struggle comes when they have to face the things and the people they left behind.

I absolutely loved this book. It was deep, emotional, sensual and cathartic. ARR has once again written a love story of all love stories. I give this book 5 stars!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Aurora Rose Reynolds is highly talented. I love all of her books but King of Nothing is my favorite. As someone who has lost a parent, this book was very relatable. Everyone grieves differently and this book shows how so many people that lost in this book has different stories from the same loss. The connection between Elora and Roman is emotional and turns into a slow burn chemistry. I didn’t want to put the book down.

'Hey you guuuuuyyyyuussss'

I loved this beautiful, sweet read. It has everything that makes it an Aurora Rose novel; strong FMC, alpha tattooed bad ass MMC, sweet tender moments and the perfect amount of spice that won't leave you disappointed.

'King of Nothing' tells the story of Elora and Roman, both of whom have recently suffered the loss of a loved one. While travelling to scatter her Mum's ashes across country Elora encounters Roman one night in the bar she works in. Their ensuing relationship is one of healing, love and navigating difficult family dynamics.

I loved the chemistry between the characters. It was clear from the onset that Roman had an inordinate amount of love to give someone, he just didn't necessarily know how, until Elora. Their support of one another, especially when dealing with each other's families is perfect.

I also adored all the 'Goonies' references. My favourite movie growing up). I also really want to visit Cannon Beach now! 😊

This is a perfect Summer read that will leave you with all the happy post book reads.

I found the unicorn—only two books after lamenting that unicorns don’t exist! More about that later.

My, this was lovely. A quiet, well-planned story of a chance meeting between two people lost in grief who find comfort in each other’s company while a growing attraction leads to love. Intense focus on characterization makes this a joy to read, mutual care and respect and honesty make the developing relationship worth the reader’s time investment, and the payoff feels richly rewarding.

And that unicorn thing? Finally, a romance between two people whose bond is too strong to let adversaries or discomfort or disparate lifestyles or hard choices split them apart. THIS is what true love looks like, and which romance readers tend to get only after some third act melodrama has caused two people to quit and run, then get back together at the end so the author can tack on a happily-ever-after. A great big thank you to this author, who decided to defy convention and embrace the harder task of writing about a love that didn’t cause pain, but ensured healing.

This was not perfect. The author seems inordinately fond of the word “soft”: Elora speaks softly so often I was surprised she was audible, faces—usually Roman’s—softened, Elora’s soft body, Roman’s soft hair, soft smiles. Enough with the soft already. And the stinging noses, sheesh. At least once, substitute tears gathering for noses stinging, okay? And Ricardo’s transformation from asshole to respectful happened too quickly and without enough motivation. However, in the grand scheme of things, these are very minor quibbles in a wonderful and satisfying romance love story.

Fantastic, beautiful story of falling in l9ve while healing each other's hearts.

I adore Elora! She feels like she's drowning, but is unknowingly spreading love, joy, and sunshine to everyone. Including Roman, who is having the same feeling. Without the side of sunshine, since he's a wee bit ... grumpy. 😄 Elora's able to get under that grumpy shield with her rays, without even trying.

Her kindness intrigues Roman, and he doesn't understand it, but he wants to be around her all the time. And while they build a friendship, it slowly sparks into more.

Their journey is full of beautiful moments, learning about each other in different ways, healing hurts along the way. I LOVE Roman's reactions & how he takes care of Elora - and allows her to take care of him.

There's a lot going on in the story that I loved but can't say anything about bc ... spoilers! This is a story I feel like you need to experience. Fall in love! I did. 💛

Oh! And, there might be a lil cameo I highly enjoyed, too. 😉

It is no secret that Aurora Rose Reynolds is one of my favorite authors. I have been a fan of hers since I read Until November almost 10 years ago. I just love her books. I love her writing style, I love the way she creates her characters, and I just love that her stories are some of my favorites of all time. She is one of my go to authors, and I can always count on her for a story that is consuming, sweet and swoony, spicy, and fantastic in every way. Her books are some of my favorites and I look forward to every new release she has because I can’t get enough of her words!

King of Nothing was an absolutely phenomenal read from start to finish. This book coupled the perfect amount of emotion, connection, sweetness, and spice and fire to make a love story that I loved every word of. This book just brought together two seemingly opposite characters who were meant to find each other. I loved getting to be in the thick of their dynamic and getting to see everything play out for them of the course of this book because it touched my heart, it made me feel all of the feels, and it just gave me a love story that I know I won’t soon forget.

Elora and Roman meets when they have both experienced loss. The two of them know what it’s like to lose somebody unexpectedly and to feel like your whole world is turned upside down. Both of them are reeling up the start of this book and they find themselves connecting in a way they weren’t prepared for. Over the course of their story together you get to see them take adventures, take risks with their hearts, and with what could be, but most of all you get to be there with them as they fall so hard for one another while putting themselves back together again.

This is a story of romance, healing, and the beautiful power of connection. It is a story of two people who are searching for ways to put themselves back together again, and they find along the way the one person who they weren’t expecting, who is ready to help them do just that. Roman and Elora help each other heal. They help each other process their feelings. They help each other figure out what they want and what they want the rest of their life to be. Through it all those two are authentic, raw and real, so abundantly incredible, and they’re just truly themselves through every page.

This author does the most amazing job of just letting you live this story with her characters. That is one of the many things that I have loved about every single one of her books, and I especially loved about this one. Getting that level of connection and feeling with her characters made everything they were experiencing feel that much more real. It just elevated what this author created in the best way and it made Elora and Roman story so memorable. My heart was completely stolen by those two and I honestly don’t want it back. They are very special and they are so meant to be, and you feel that in every bit of their connection from that very first meeting. Getting to experience that and getting to see how that connection and their relationship evolves of the course of this book is romantic, it is swoony in the best way, and it is just beautiful.

This book was the perfect read that I could not put down. I literally devoured it in one sitting because I just needed everything with these characters and I couldn’t get enough of the two of them and what they shared together. This story was consuming, I loved getting to see the adventures. These characters got into, I loved the little connections to previous characters that also stole my heart , but really I just loved everything about Elora and Roman.

I loved how honest they were. I loved how this story allowed them to peel back the layers of each other and heal and fall in love and feel everything. I loved that the story was so beautifully emotional and heart touching. I loved the meaning behind everything and just how right these characters felt. I loved that this author infused her quintessential voice and style into this book in a way that I could not get enough of. I loved that I had those moments experiencing the protectiveness of these characters and their spark and their banter, while also feeling some deeply felt emotions and moments. This author seamlessly weaves it all together in a way that is truly phenomenal and that makes this an incredible love story.

I just loved everything about this book and what I got with these characters. Their story made me smile, it melted me again and again, but more than that it just showed me that those two were meant to find each other and find a beautiful happily ever after together.

Aurora Rose Reynolds has once again proven to me that she is one of my favorite authors and will continue to be for the rest of time. I have read and loved every single one of her books, and this one was no different. It is another one that I know I will reread many times in the future and I just can’t wait to spend so many more moments with Elora and Roman because they are really something special. This author truly created a beautiful love story and romance that I could not put down, that gave me all the feels, and that showed me through every page that love and healing can bring you indescribable joy, and beauty if you allow yourself to feel it and experience it and have it.

This is another must read by this author and the perfect place to jump into her words if you are new to her. The standalone romance is well written, consuming in every way, and will definitely leave you feeling all of the feels and love. This book delivered and I for one just can’t wait for more from this author! Her books are my happy place and I love it.

This was fantastic! When I first read what this book was about, it intrigued me. I am so glad I got a chance to read this one!
The prologue really got me and from then on, I was completely hooked. I didn’t stop until I finished and my heart felt heavy and light at the same time.
Both Elora and Roman have lost someone very dear to them so this is a very emotionally charged story. When Elora first notices Roman, she sees a pain behind his eyes that mirrored her own, so despite his behaviour toward her initially, she still lent a hand.
Losing someone is hard, and I think we can all relate to this. Doing what she was for her mum was lovely and I found myself tearing up a good portion of this book.
Roman lost someone in a different way to Elora and this highlights how loss effects people differently. He becomes intrigued by Elora and soon he is seeking her out and finding solace in her presence. Not able to let go quite yet, or maybe it was because Elora was showing him a different side of himself, he joins her on her journey.
They bonded over loss and I loved how their relationship develops and how caring and sweet Elora was. I loved that this was a journey of more than just saying goodbye, it was a journey of self-discovery and letting go and realising that life is short.
You can feel the stops getting easier for them both, my heart squeezed every time Elora would find a 'spot'.
There was almost two sides to Roman, the stoic, no-nonsense business man and the person he was with Elora. I loved how sweet he was with her, but also growly and possessive. He never craved another person touch before her and I really enjoyed watching how soft he was, only for her. I think he will be one of my favourite characters of the year.
I really enjoyed the writing, however I did think there were parts where I felt like it was a bit 'wordy'. Like certain parts that were over described and it lost the emotion that I felt in that moment. Having said this, I still loved the story and having read previous work by this author, the growth in her story-telling is evident.
This was such a beautiful story that I would recommend to anyone that enjoys bittersweet story full of loss, letting go and more importantly, love.

4.5 Stars!

Aurora Rose Reynolds never ceases to amaze me. The queen of unforgettable insta-love romances delivered a touching and emotional slow-burn romance.

Elora was a loving and devoted daughter whose life was turned upside down when her mother passed away. Determined to live each moment and finish seeing all the places her mom wanted to visit, Elora finds herself on a road trip none of her friends or family could understand. What she never planned on was meeting Roman. Their chance meeting sparked off a series of events and an unexplainable connection. You see, Roman was no stranger to loss and wasn’t ready to face the reality waiting for him back home. Roman and Elora set out on an unforgettable journey of healing and might just fall in love along the way….

King of Nothing is the kind of story that sneaks up on you and consumes you. The characters are so easy to connect and relate to. Roman and Elora are dealing with their own grief and tragedy, and find comfort in having someone who understands what they’re going through. The connection they form is deep, yet unexpected. I loved that their romance had a slow build to it. Roman and Elora were complete opposites and took the time to get to know one another but didn’t try to fight the pull they felt either. Roman was the alpha hero every girl wishes for. He knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to go after it. If there was something he could do to make Elora’s life even a smidgen easier, he’d stop at nothing to make it happen. Being together was as easy as breathing for Elora and Roman; it was effortless.

King of Nothing is so much more than romance. It’s a beautiful and touching story filled with grief and healing. It’s a story of finding peace and your soulmate when you least expect it. With her signature writing style and ability to make you fall head over heels for her characters, Aurora Rose Reynolds knocked it out of the park with this book If you’re looking for an unforgettable love story with a deep connection and stubborn characters you won’t want to miss this King of Nothing.

I. Absolutely. Adored. This. Book. *chef’s kiss*

First, be aware this is a book around grief/family member deaths, I know that is sensitive for some people. This takes place post-events and is the story of two lost/hurting people who find each other, healing, and love.

The writing captured me from chapter 1, I just loved the word choice and “voice” in the story- it made me “feel” right away. The author is new to me so I had no idea really what to expect but loved the writing.

Elora and Roman’s connection is almost at a fated level. It’s vibes, feelings, a string puling them together, they just “fit”, kind of a met at the right time/right place. My guess this will be a bit divisive for readers. I think some won’t like that, but for me I absolutely loved it.

I enjoyed that they both met in a tough emotional place, providing space for healing and the relationship through their growth. I like that they go almost straight into having the deep, introspective talks or even just sitting “being” and feeling in the thick of it together.

Roman is definitely possessive, stubborn, pushy, but from a sweetly protective place. I really do enjoy books where the guy just kind of ninja’s himself into her life, like “yeah I just belong here and I’m gonna take care of you, deal with it.” It makes me swoon a bit. There’s an intensity or obsession element in this romance.

In that vein, it’s also one of those books where they just quietly slide into the relationship together. There’s a little drama (mainly from outsiders) here and there but for the most part it’s a warm, cozy slide in and I love that. Seeing their support for each other when the bits of drama happens is really great as well.

Also - I feel like I’ve rarely read a couple’s first kiss that turned me on so much in my life. I was so into them as a couple that it had me on fire 🥵😂. This book has a few short open-door sex scenes which complement their romance well.

Overall I very much enjoyed this happy-sad, warm, slow, falling together healing journey. If you want an emotion-led, fate-vibes, heartfelt romance, this is an easy 5/5 ⭐️ from me!

I received an advance copy of this book and have left my, as always, honest review.
