Broken Arrow

Rate this book
Arrow Nez is all about that pack life. If it’s not about the pack or his business, it’s not about him. He’s put in a lot of work to prove himself to his pack and his adopted father after an indiscretion that was punishable by death. Childhood trauma has broken him to the point of feeling incapable of loving and being loved. When a beautiful stranger stumbles onto tribal land there are more questions than answers. Who is she? Where has she come from? The most important question is, will she be the iron needed to mend a broken Arrow?

Daanis Branham is built to survive by any means necessary for herself and her baby girl Marlani. After the death of her parents, love had not come easily for or without pain. The day that she realizes that she has nothing to lose by breaking free of the chains that bind her, she makes the decision to do just that, break free. When her survival instincts lead her to a foreign land, will it become a beastly massacre? Will she be accepted, shunned, or killed? The most important question is, will her iron be enough to mend the broken Arrow?

Indulge in the recreation of an Arrow and the iron that binds it.

This was fun! I have a new author to explore. They were Quileute Tribe wolves living in Forks and Port Angeles. Sound familiar? But no vampires in site. Yet. I enjoyed this one. Happy reading!

Needed more

This paranormal needed more enchantment or better yet more paranormal scenes about paranormal things.

It read pretty boring, my imagination was crying for something that it just wasn’t getting

I expected this book to have more fantasy elements. There wasn’t a lot of shifting and the author skipped the mating process. I also felt like it was rushed and it kept have time skips. Also the names the author used for d*ck and p*say gave me the ick. Like calling it a “pop tart” and “little man on a boat” and let’s not forget “hard tentant and two guest”.

Iron Sharpens Iron

“Sometimes arrows must be broken to be recreated with iron setting. Iron sharpens iron, my love.”
Bow and Nis were both broken by people who should’ve loved and cared for them. Nis runs for her life with her daughter and the clothes on their backs. She, in her haste, jumps from the frying pan and into the fire. She escapes but barely and she isn’t unscathed. She stumbles upon a tribe of wolves.
Arrow aka Bow is the pack leader and he is not the warm and fuzzy type. His background is marred with abuse and pain. It’s shaped the way that he is but he is doing the work to move past his trauma and atone for his mistakes. He encounters Nis and he can’t help but protect her and Marlina.
Learning about pack life, starting over, relying on others, protecting her daughter, all while keeping an eye out for her enemy is what Nis has to do on the daily. She’s so used to doing things on her own that she is resistant to receiving help and trusting people.
She will learn to accept it if Arrow and the pack/tribe has anything to say about it. She may also come to love it and love him.
Great read!

It wasn’t terrible by any means. It had everything you’d need for this kind of story but everything as just so rushed. It all felt like one big summary and maybe it’s a sign that I don’t love novellas. I would have liked it to be longer. I never got to really see Arrow and Daanis fall in love. I saw him love the child more than he seemed to love Daanis. While it was cute, it made the romance seem unbelievably and rushed. Idk it wasn’t my fav. Which is so sad because I had heard great things about this book. And it was one of my 25 books I wanted to read in 2025! What I will say is that the book flowed, so I would definitely try another book by this author but perhaps a longer novel instead.

My biggest pet peeve with most romantic novellas is that they’re way too fast-paced, but this book avoided that entirely. The story used time jumps well, making the pacing feel realistic without being confusing. I loved the inclusion of female werewolves and found the side characters engaging. The writing was solid across the board, and the spicy scenes felt balanced—neither overdone nor misplaced. I appreciated how the focus remained on love and plot over smut, which gave the story more depth.

Much better!

The first Mel Dau paranormal story I read was “When a Wolf Cries” and I was so disappointed. Having read several books by her I could’t believe how poorly written it was. Nevertheless, I refused to give up on one of my favorite writers and I pulled this one for my Kindle Unlimited library. So glad I did! It’s a much better read.

After reading the author notes, I think I know the story chronology for this world.
1. Summer’s Howl
2. Willow’s Peak
3. Broken Arrow
4. When a Wolf Cries (poorly written, IMO)
I could be wrong. It is an ongoing frustration with Mel Dau; the story chronology of her books cannot be found anywhere. But I’m still a fan.

I am so in Love!!!

I’m absolutely in love with this series! If you’ve read my reviews before, you’ll know this is the third book in a four-book series. I had no idea I’d read the fourth book first. I was completely hooked and devoured the entire series in about 3 1/2 days.

I’ve seen some reviews saying the plot is simple. I disagree!! I believe if you read the book in the correct order, you will get to know the characters, their flaws, and their motivations. Now that I’ve read the series in the correct sequence, I’ve fallen head over heels for both the series and the author! My Devine Nine sister did that thang!! ! ♥️🤍💙🤍

Great Read

Daanis did right by fleeing to her father's home land. Although her father left, she was welcomed with open arms. Arrow was drawn to Daanis and Marlani from the beginning. He would do any and everything to protect them at all costs. Daanis finally had something that she thought she'd lost forever, a family. Rebel became her best friend. There was drama from her past, but all of the love outweighed it. Arrow finally found happiness, love, and acceptance. Amazing Read.

Bow and Nis💕

I really enjoyed this one! Bow and Nis were destined to be great! The trauma they endured was tremendous, but it didn’t stop them from gravitating towards one another. I loved how once the realization hit that they were more than just “friends” that they went on full speed. Marlani was the cutest and the way she bonded with Bow was so cute. Rebel was a real one and I’m glad she was there for Nis. Roland, Nis’s extended family, and Bow’s parents were all disgusting people and got what they deserved. The fictional world is a much safer place without them.

Survival

Never estimate what a mother will not do to protect her and her child!!!…We think about pain later because we don’t want our child(ren) to endure pain now!!!…
Nis was definitely a woman of strength and not even the fear of the unknown prevented her from doing what she needed to do!!!…
I love the way this tribe embraced her and protected her and her baby girl!!!…Nis father spirit definitely guided her in the right direction!!!…
I was happy that Roland was not able to get his hands on them!!!…
Beautiful story of survival and love!!!…

iron sharpens iron

I was excited Arrow got a book. From his backstory alone let me know it was going to be good. Arrow was a strong leader with still so much to prove never saw love and family for him because of his “brokenness “ but Mari and Daanis came in and changed all. The love they have for each other was jumping off the pages. I needed a good paranormal romance read and this was everything

Excellent

Another great book by Mel Dau
All her books leave you with some life lessons and that great feeling you want when you read a book about family, friendship and love
Most times when you deal with childhood trauma it takes true love to help you overcome
This was Arrow’s past but Lani was able to help him fix the broken parts of life and make him whole.
Great book and I highly recommend it
You will not be disappointed

This was very a entertaining book. I am in love with paranormal and this did not disappoint. Arrow and Daanis were so cute together. He saw her and just knew she was the one although she was reluctant but slowly came around. She realized Arrow did not play about her and his family. Great story!

Arrow

Daanis was running with her baby from an abusive relationship. Arrow is almost the chief of the Wolfpack and is immediately attracted to Daanis. This a sweet story of how two people connected and fell in love.

When taking your life back brings you so much more than you expected. This book gave me all the feels. Arrow and Daanis had a beautiful love story from beginning to end. This was a quick read for me, but I still loved the progression this couple made. There were battles to face, but they did so together, making their union even stronger.
This book was more inclusive (in my opinion) than the past books and I loved that. We got to reconnect with past characters while also experiencing new bonds of love and friendship. I was really hoping that Rebel would have her own book because I loved her and her acceptance of Daanis. However, she is living her best life so I’m good with that.
Mel Dau is an author I know will always touch feelings I was unaware of, and that’s why she is one of my favorites. I loved everything about this book, the good and the bad, but the acceptance, forgiveness, and thoughtfulness were what made it a five-star read for me!

Mel Dau just keeps bringing the heat. The petty is a plus! Daanis did what was best for her and her child. Thank goodness her father told her about her tribe. The update on everyone was really nice as well.

Arrow

That's it one word. He is the fictional Boaz. All man, they used to make men like these in real life but now you can only find these mythical creatures between the pages of fictional romance. Overall this was a great quick read.
