Hali Waverly is in a holding pattern following hip surgery. She’s getting better, but she still has to be careful…especially living so close to the beach. Still, she thinks it’s safe enough to go out for dinner with her boyfriend Gray Hunter…right up until they’re swarmed by escaped prisoners. Hali thinks everything is okay until one of the prisoners uses magic on Gray and forces him to attack Hali. She manages to snap him out of it, but Gray no longer trusts himself and Hali is left with a doubting boyfriend as well as a lot of unanswered questions. Even though most of the prisoners are recovered right away, a few manage to evade capture, including the witch who hexed Gray. Things get worse when the witch approaches Hali with a Help her prove her innocence and she won’t go after Gray again. Otherwise…Gray is going to be her target, and she isn’t shy about what she’s going to do to him. Hali and Gray have to work together to make sure he’s not taken advantage of. With Hali not at a hundred percent, though, that’s easier said than done. Not all witches are created equal. Hali is powerful, but what happens when she comes up against a type of magic she doesn’t know how to defeat? She’s determined to protect Gray at all costs, even if she has to put herself on the line to do it.
Hali the witch and Grey the shifter are a supernatural dream team couple that often battle evil on the beach and protect the normals, along with the help of their besties.
This time the evil is in the form of escaping paranormal prisoners, mainly Angela who espouses her innocence, but most who are badddddddd people and embroil Hali and her love in their case, demanding freedom and threatens Grey to obtain it. Hmmmmmm, how can she be innocent when getting help by threatening others? Whether they deserve it or not is a far murkier question and as Hali and Grey investigate, the more complicated the answer becomes.
Rusty, Grey’s brother is hilarious and Carrie, Hali’s best friend are a hoot and a half but it is the family and friends that surround them through the series that provide a great deal of angst and hilarity..
Grey’s mom for one has a dark side and that makes for real problems with the couple, and Hali’s grandmother for another, as well as other supporting cast, make the novels intriguing as well as interesting for me as a long term reader.
There are fascinating archetypes that are within the stories- classic themes such as opposites attracting and falling in love, the fight for true love, good against evil and so many more…and this powerful writer masters the positive life themes triumphing over the darkness- these days most of us need that in our lives more than ever.
An excellent, entertaining series, an enjoyable novel and an absolutely worthwhile read
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. The fun cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Holly is a witch who owns a tiki bar on a resort beach in Florida. She lives in a villa on the resort property as well. The owner of the resort is a Papas Butthead that hid her with a golf cart and injure her. In her settlement she got the tiki bar and a villa for free forever. Holly‘s boyfriend is gray a private investigator. They are trying to enjoy life and also keep their area safe from supernatural issues. Most of the population are mundane humans that do not know anything about the supernatural. So when problems arise Holly and her friends try to stop what’s going on before The mundane humans find out. You have read the books there is a continuing set of circumstances that pop up and continues throughout the books along with a new mystery and adventure every time. Check it out and see what’s going on this time.
Hali has turned into a sniveling mess! After the hubbub on the beach with the escaped prisoners, why in the world would she think Gray would be mad at her? Why is that even a thing? Gray’s the one who was going to kill her, and she did what she needed to do to protect herself.
Why has this book become all about Gray? It’s been the same with the last few of the series. I signed on to read a WITCH on the Rocks mystery, not an overbearing, gaslighting, Neanderthal bully like Gray.
Let me get this straight. It would be safer for everyone involved if Gray were to leave St. Pete Beach while Angela is loose, but he won’t because, “I can’t be away from Hali. It will kill me.” Give me a break. What a selfish turd.
How are we eight books in and still don’t know Wayne’s true purpose?
Join Hali and Gray as they work on making sure Hali’s hip heals well after her operation, not only that but there seems to be a dangerous witch who has escaped from jail and wants Hali to prove her innocence from her original crime or she will do something to the only person Hali loves, Gray. Confused? You won’t be once you get yourself a copy of this book and read it all in one sitting, or however you like to read your books, I can guarantee you’ll enjoy reading this book;)
As Haily and Gray start to go further afield as she recovers, an overturned prison bus creates a much bigger problem for the pair.
Tucked away safely Haily starts tripping up the fleeing prisoners to help the police round them up until she comes face to face with another Witch wearing the classic orange jumpsuit... Angela does her best to control Gray and set him on Haily... will it be the end or just the beginning of a whole new case??
I have a lot of favorite characters in this whole multi series extravaganza. But Hali is definitely one of my top heroines. In this book there’s Hali dealing with post surgery pain, a very demanding woman in an orange jumpsuit, mind magic, an older woman dying with regrets, and an older woman who it seems will have no regrets at all. Another wonderful Hali story. And a nice possible way path to heal the pack.
Hali is in the mend but trouble doesn’t stop rolling her way. While Hali is on the beach with Gray, a prison break leads to danger and a magical spell that could be their end. How many problems can life throw at this couple and they make it through?
An enjoyable read with characters you can’t help but root for.
I really enjoy her books as always, regardless of which moniker she's writing under. However, this book was 90% the two of them telling each other the same thing over and over again, with very little action otherwise. Not bad by any means but just rather a bit of a let down. I wish she would focus more on substance sometimes then repetition.
I love these characters more and more with each new story. The growth in themselves and their relationship has been a blast to read. Even Wayne makes and appearance he a hoot. I can’t wait to see what happens next
This is another cute story in the series. I love these characters and their interactions with all the beach people. The family dynamics always give a good bit of entertainment to the stories. The next book and more of her familiar are things I am looking forward to reading!!
Totally enjoyed this book. The interactions are just as fun as the mystery. I Leo enjoyed the time given to continue to develop secondary characters like Rusty. Looking forward to the next book.
Magical prison bus breakout and magical blackmail. Funny characters and great story. Love this series. Humour, magic, romance and mystery. Love this series. No cliffhanger.
Such a good story and I love the characters that are continuing and the ridiculous familiar that shows up at times in the series. The storyline is catchy.
This book seemed to me a bit lite. Not my witchcraft, not much drama, not much plot advancement. It was ok but I was expecting more of everything. Hopefully the next book will have more.
Read from the first book to this last. I am amazed at the imagination to bring these to life. Now I am looking forward to the next book, see if Gray gets his shark shifter on.
I always have fun when I come back to this series of books. It was several times I had to laugh out loud. I like the bit of mystery with the stories. Mostly enjoyed the back and forth between the 2 main characters.
I absolutely love our now established characters and this one was more of a mystery as Hali has to try figure out if a Witch has been framed for murder or not.
Fast paced and extremely enjoyable with a few special twists to keep you more than entertained.
This series is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I really enjoy the characters, setting, mysteries, and of course the snark and sarcasm. I'm looking forward to the next book!
Thank you another wonderful book. Your books I just can't stop reading until I finish them. Love all your wonderful people. Gray is very smart and so good for Hali.
DNF. I love this series, but not this book. I don't enjoy a story focusing on people's weaknesses rather than their strengths. I do look forward to the next book.
