I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.

I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.

National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

Summary
Its been twenty six years since Miranda and Jake's life changed and their lives became intertwined with one another. They have raised two children, been hunted by the law and gangs, and their bond has only strengthened despite the tough challenges that sought to break them apart. Jake and Miranda are living in peace for the first time since they met, Jake is working for the government as a U.S. Marshall, for the past two years, both of their children reside in the same town with them, they have made strong friendships and trusts. But there is a new danger heading their way, a band of outlaws want revenge and will use Jake and his family to get it. Jake is determined to take them down, and with his strong son at his side, he believes he can face whatever lies ahead. But nothing prepares him for what the outlaws have planned, and soon it will be  race against time, Jake will have to use every weapon he has at his disposal to save those he loves the most, but he realizes that he will need to face his inner demons first in order to save his family.
Plot and Story Line
Do Not Forsake Me continues off two years after "Outlaw Hearts" we have seen in the previous story this beautiful epic love that Jake and Miranda have built and strengthened. But their challenges are not over in Do Not Forsake Me . They will be faced with new challenges. Jake is a U.S. Marshall along with his son, Miranda is keeping a secret about her health from Jake, Jake and Miranda's daughter and her husband's lives are about to be tested, we meet more of the 'grandkids' (and boy were they all entertaining, so lively and they have both Jake and Miranda in them, we see Jake struggle with his past once again, and see him struggle more in this story than the last one. We also get the same amount of emotional display as we saw in Outlaw Hearts and did this one put me through the ringer, in fact probably more so than the first book --which is saying quite a bit. There are many moments in this book that just broke me down in tears, and I don't want to reveal too much, but I will say that they are powerfully moving and make you think about what is really important in life. This story gives us insights into our own beliefs and desires for life and love. We see how love truly can heal us even from the deepest of wounds, wounds most people never see unless we let them see. I found myself constantly moved by Jake and Miranda's love for each other, even their children's relationships with their spouses were deeply motivating. Now I do want to mention one aspect, you can read this as a stand alone, the author gives enough background information you won't get lost, however I highly recommend you read the first book before this one. And I have my reason for saying that, because there are some things you won't fully understand unless you read the first book, and this story won't make as much of a impact unless you get the full story behind Jake and Miranda and what makes them so special. I will say this, if I had to choose one couple, these two would win hands down...NO CONTEST!! They won my heart from the beginning, and after Do Not Forsake Me I was shown how strong their bond is to each other, and there are times when they are separated and that doesn't keep them from growing together, it actually proves them in a way that magnifies what they have. So if you love historical romance, or a passionate love story this one is a must for you!!
The Cover
I just love this pose these two have, its full of passion and power. Her dress is just gorgeous, and boy is that man gorgeous or what??!!! And that little bit of grey at his temples is a beautiful touch.
Overall View
Do Not Forsake Me is a sensually woven love story, action packed, emotionally driven in ways you can't comprehend, and utterly stimulating!! This powerful saga romance continues...

I had a fantastic time with this book! It has been a few years since I read the first book in the series and I was a little worried that I would have trouble jumping into this book but the author did a great job of refreshing my memory with everything that I needed to know from the previous book over the course of the story. It was so nice to read a romance featuring a couple that has been together for a long time and has a solid relationship. I really enjoyed this second chapter in Jake and Randy’s story.

I have to say that I absolutely love the fact that Jake and Miranda were older than the typical couple featured in romance novels. They have been married for 26 years and have 2 grown children and a couple of grandchildren. Jake is in his 50s and Randy is in her 40s. They still had the passion that they have always had together and were facing some pretty big obstacles in this book. Their son, Lloyd gets married in this book so there is also a bit of new romance in the mix as well.

Working as Marshalls, Jake and Lloyd both lead a rather dangerous life and have made more than a few enemies. They can handle it as long as their family isn’t threatened. On this adventure, they are joined by Jeff, a man from Chicago who hopes to write a book about Jake. Things get really intense and I was worried about how things would work out for Jack, Miranda, and the rest o the characters. I would definitely characterize this book as a page-turner.

I would recommend this series to others. Since this is a continuing story, I would recommend reading the series in order. This was a wonderful story filled with a lot of emotion, great characters, and some pretty intense action. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series very soon.

It’s been five years since the last time I read this book and what I said back then is the same this tmi. It’s a beautiful yet gritty epic love story of two people, Jake and Randy, whose love has stayed strong for 26 years. Having just done a reread of the first book Outlaw Hearts, I loved reading this one again.

I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time. I’ve been simple mad for Jake and Randy from Outlaw Heats ever since I first read it twenty years ago and I was beyond delighted when I heard there was a sequel planned and preordered it the first moment I could. When it came I set aside time to get back into the amazing love these two have for each other. I finished it in about a day and a half. So now the big question is what did I think?

Hmmm.

I am so glad that I read it but it’s not going to get quite as high of marks as Outlaw Hearts did. The central love story was Amazing. It’s so refreshing to see that Jake and Randy are just as much in love and passionate love at that as they were when they first met twenty six years earlier. Their need for each other hasn’t dimmed not even one candle’s worth and I love that about them. Here’s a brief outline for those who haven’t read Outlaw Hearts – first piece of advice, READ IT! Not because you have to have read it to read and understand this one, I don’t think you necessarily do, but Outlaw Hearts is such a wonderful book and the love story between outlaw Jake Harkner and widow Miranda Hayes is so compelling and so beautiful it would be a shame NOT to read it.

Jake Harkner was an outlaw, a bad guy who did bad things. He and Miranda meet when he gets into a shootout in a general store and Miranda inadvertently shoots him. He rides out of town and somehow ends up at her farmstead and when she gets home, she nurses him back to health. She has plans to go west and once she gets to know the good and tender side of Jake that he keeps hidden, she asks him to take her. He refuses and she sets off on her own but when Jake has second thoughts and worries about her, he follows and finds her in desperate circumstances. He takes care of her and the love they share deepens and grows and much against his better judgement, they marry. But his outlaw past comes back to haunt them again and again. He spends time in jail and at the end of Outlaw Hearts, he has been released an ordered to become a deputy marshal and put the bad guys, of whom he used to be one.

Do Not Forsake Me starts a year or so later and Jake is now a full-fledged marshal and he and his son Lloyd are just headed back into a town in Montana with some bad guys. During the arrest, they had to kill some of the outlaws and now they have become a target for revenge. This is nothing new for Jake; he was a lot in Outlaw Heats too. But Jake is getting older, he’s in his 50’s and he’s really starting to feel some of the injuries that he has suffered in his violent past. He’s worried about his son Lloyd and his daughter Evie, along with his beloved wife Randy will be targets for those looking for revenge against him. And he is right to be worried as one of them does become a victim. Saying too much would be spoilers and I don’t want to do that so I won’t give any more away about the story. Instead I’ll say what worked and what didn’t quite so well.

Jake and Randy. I loved them both just as much in this book. While Jake is still very much a gray character, he still kills without remorse those who deserve to die, Randy is his touchstone. She keeps him from completely going to the dark side and he knows she does. He needs her and he tells her that though out the story in so many tender and romantic ways. Though tough on the outside, he’s so soft when it comes to his family.

Jeff Trubridge. This is a character who has decided to write a book about the infamous Jake Harkner. At first we don’t if he is shady or a good kind of writer. But thankfully he’s a good kind of writer and he and Jake develop a very nice rapport with some humorous moments in times of great tension.

The story itself. It’s nice to follow up with characters years later and see where they are at. As a sequel this works great.

Now for the things that didn’t work quite as well for me

Lloyd. I just couldn’t warm up to him at all. He did a few things I really didn’t like, one in particular that sent him to the dark side and will have repercussions I do believe in the next book, yes, Ms. Bittner has plans for another one in this series *fist pump of joy*. I just couldn’t connect with him.

Jakes smoking. Now I realize that this was the old west and long before we knew the dangers of smoking, and I’m an ex smoker myself and I have no issues with a character smoking. But it seems like he was constantly smoking - All. The. Time. I just wish she (the author) hadn’t written so much about it.

And that’s about it for what didn’t work so well for me. A very short list isn’t it. But there was nothing in Outlaw Hearts that bothered me at all, thus the reason that Do Not Forsake Me is graded slightly lower. But I have no problems whatsoever recommending this book to those who love a good Western and even though who don’t, who just love a story about enduring love and a wickedly delicious gray hero.

I fell in love with this couple and their family in Outlaw Hearts. I couldn't have been more pleased when I realized there was a sequel. I was not ready to let them go and I'm glad the author wasn't either. Jake and Miranda Harker and their family saga set in the last days of the Old West makes for some of the best Western Historical Romance that I have ever read.

This is a sequel, but it is written in such a way that newcomers can do fine if they accidentally pick them up out of order. Fair warning, the reader will want to go back to the beginning. Personally, I was glad to get them in order so that I had all that history with the family to build upon when things happened in this one- made the experience all the more poignant and sweet.

The story opens about a year and a half after the end of the first book. Jake is now settled into his job of US Marshall and his family is settled around him in Guthrie, OK. The land is seething with trouble- many outlaws hide out here, the indians are restless with the treaties being broken, and more and more settlers are pouring in. Jake and his son Lloyd have their hands full as do the other marshalls.

Jake and Lloyd go after some bank robbers and this sets in motion a feud situation since the outlaws come from two local families that skirt the law constantly. Jake and Lloyd had to use deadly action to stop them and now the remaining clans want revenge against Jake and Lloyd.

Back home, Jake worries about Randy because she is hiding something about her health, a young writer from Chicago wants to tell his story and it will dredge up the darkness of his past, Evie is his angel daughter living with her kind husband, Lloyd decides that it is time to move on after the loss of Beth and he has a lovely widow woman ready to give him and his young son a chance, but Katie isn't sure about his dangerous job.

Evil men ride the outlaw trail and threaten Jake's family. It will take Jake bringing out the man he once was to fight for his family and take down a ruthless bunch. Through it all, a love that began 26 years before is as strong as ever. Jake draws strength from his wife and Randy relies on him utterly. If only they can be strong enough when circumstances force them to be apart.

Alright, this sequel did its job and utterly enthralled me with how much it carried on the strengths of the first book and made an older couple and their family story hold me in its grip and not let me go even after I closed the last page. I was bittersweet over seeing it end because I hate saying good-bye to such well-loved characters.

The story sits comfortably in its wild, rough, boisterous western setting. The author paid attention to detail and got it right without the details overpowering the story. The pacing was well-done with gentle home scenes switching to harsh and dangerous action.

There is continued character development as Jake still fights the demons of his past and worries about the safety and wellbeing of his family. Miranda quietly faces her fears of what is causing her health troubles even as she desperately wants to be there for Jake who needs her as his anchor in the difficult time. Lloyd and his wife have to also settle with their pasts if they are to enjoy a happy future together. And a young man from the city finally comes into his own as he observes, interviews, and engages in Jake's life.

The romance was as incredible as ever. Jake and Randy may be at middle age, but Jake is as lusty and in love with his wife as ever and Randy is right there with him. They are each other's reason for existence and no matter what there is trust, loyalty, determination, and understanding to go along with their love.

In conclusion, it was absolutely amazing and I felt so part of the story feeling and experiencing everything. Western Historical Romance fans really need to pick this one up as soon as possible.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This sequel to Outlaw Hearts didn’t have the power as the first, but it did add a great chapter in the lives of Jake and Miranda. It’s a worthy addition to Bittner’s collection of historical romance works.

The author chose to go further in a romantic relationship than many do in historical romances nowadays. The leads are in their 50s and 40s, far older than most romantic leads. I loved exploring how their relationship grew and matured as the years and trials went by. The author explored such issues that arose from that kind of relationship like illnesses, grandchildren, and getting older in a rough, tumble world.

Bittner also explores the next generation, Lloyd and Evie, as they get into relationships and start families of their own. This part of the story keeps the epic, family saga aura that the first book had, and I loved that. This book is as much about this family’s struggles to build a life in a very rough area of the world and overcome some truly tragic pasts as it is the romance.

Bittner, again, pays attention to her historical tidbits and world-building. Land-rush Oklahoma is a rough place to be, filled with outlaws, pissed-off Indians (this was supposed to be their territory after all), and squatters who don’t wish to vacate their premises. Jake being roped in as a lawman in such a setting is bound to bring its dose of action, suspense, and shoot outs. Bittner doesn’t hesitate to draw those into her story to build her characters and develop their relationships.

I didn’t like this book as well as the first as at times it seemed to focus away from the relationships and more towards Jake’s struggle as a lawman. Jake’s and Miranda’s relationship is explored enough to rightfully call this book a historical romance; yet, I felt that they didn’t always get the amount of page time together as they did in book one. It’s a subtle difference, but I still liked book one better due to it.

Still, though, this book is a great addition to the Jake/Miranda story if only as we get to see their relationship mature into the silver and golden years. The author stills pays careful attention to the background and family saga elements as she did previously. I read on her website that there will be further works coming out on Jake/Miranda; let it be noted that I’ll be eagerly awaiting those works. Bittner proves once again how great a historical romance writer she is.

Once again Bittner has created an emotional novel that takes you back in time and shows you what real cowboys are all about. It was a fantastic sequel to Outlaw Hearts that highlighted the hard hitting lives these characters lived. Lasting love and romance shines through while the harshness of the land is apparent to all.

Bittner’s vivid and lifelike characters invite you deep into their lives. They’re the type of individuals that you instinctively want to get to know better. I appreciated how Bittner takes the individuals we came to know in the first novel of the series and allows them to grow and change based on the circumstances they now find themselves in. Their personal and interpersonal relationships, along with the land they live on, shaped their lives.

Although his novel could potentially be read as a standalone, I would suggest reading the series in order. I loved how Bittner showed us what happens in the ‘ever after’ for the characters that we met in the first novel.

Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

Originally Reviewed For: Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy

Do Not Forsake Me is a welcome sequel to a much loved romance. In the early 90's Roseanne Bittner wrote an epic fantasy, Desperate Hearts. It was a sweeping saga and affected readers deeply. I did not read it in the 90's so my wait for a sequel was much shorter but no less exciting..

Do Not Forsake Me follows the Jake and Miranda Harkner as they serve out Jake's sentence. Jake has been released from prison and exonerated for his most famous crime, the one he never did. But he did commit crimes and he needed to make amends to society. So he has been sentenced to become a federal marshal in Oklahoma Territory. A place so wild and savage that no law man wants the job. The idea was to send in a man who lived the life to help clean it up.

Jake has taken this job to heart but he wants a life of peace, he's always wanted a life of peace. So he has petitioned to have his sentence suspended, he just needs to get through the next few months while waiting for an answer.. Life should be easy, right?

Yeah.. the Harkners do not lead a simple life, try as they might. Miranda is faced with an illness that could take her life and Jake would never survive that. And his enemies have plans of revenge all their own.

This book was much less sweeping as it was pretty much contained to one year's time but that did not distract from the depth of emotion Ms. Bittner plays with. Reading Do Not Forsake Me was like sitting in a warm embrace. Yes, there were troubles but the love that radiates from Jake and Miranda is a beautiful thing. But they are not perfect and their family does suffer from Jake's mistakes.

Ms. Bittner deals with love and forgiveness beautifully. She shows again and again that true strength is not about the physical but comes from within and her heroines are the strongest women I have ever read. They are survivors, not just of life but with love.

This book can easily be read as a stand alone but if you chose to do so, you are missing out on a beautiful story that brings you and the Harkners to this point in their lives..

I heartily suggest you read Outlaw Hearts, then Do Not Forsake Me and when it comes out LOVE'S SWEET REVENGE which will be the third book in this amazing saga..

This series is what romance books are all about and Do Not Forsake Me lives up to it's predecessor, showing both new readers and those who read this years ago, Roseanne Bittner just gets romance.

Well now I might have found a new author to binge on. Do Not Forsake Me was a lovely read. I'd say it's more family saga than romance but I loved it. That the heroine was in her 40s. The hero in his 50s. That they'd been married 26 years and had grown kids and grandkids. The strength in the heroine and the fierceness in the hero who was just scary sexy. Drama and danger and an amazing family that helped each other through the horrible times. Just a great read.

Despite the many challenges Randy and Jake faced in this book, they managed to make it out together alive. Their romance is still going very strong and I just love seeing that.

Everything was falling down around them and yet their love for each other kept themselves from falling apart as well. It strengthened them and it surprised me that Randy could feel something went wrong with Jake even when she was away from him. That was how strong their bond was a married couple.

This book was another hell of a tough ride. Nevertheless, it was a ride that had me at the edge of my seat. It was action packed, but never neglected the romance, and emphasized the meaning of family. At this point, I have a feeling that I’ll be missing Randy and Jake for a long time after I finish this series. These two are engraved on my heart.

Another wonderful book.

Incredible Book & Series, Awesome Characters, Lots of Action & Romance...

This has got to be one of the best books and series I've ever read. Do Not Forsake Me is book #2 in this series. It follows Outlaw Hearts. I didn't think it could get any better than Outlaw Hearts but this book is just as incredible. I'm so glad to have read that at least 2 more books are in the works.

This series has been a bit different in the fact that book #2 follow the same couple from book #1 and it sounds like the next 2 books will continue to follow them. This is awesome though because I can't get enough of this couple and their family. All the characters really grow on you and you can't help but love them and want more.

This book, as the first book, is filled with romance and non-stop action and adventure. There's never a dull moment and I had a really hard time putting the book down to get some sleep. These books are very emotional too. I can't tell you how many times I shed some tears which is very rare for me. And many laughs too. These books and these characters will stick with me for a long time.

Such a great story. Amazing writing. Lovable characters. I would HIGHLY recommend this fantastic book and series. Outlaw Hearts should definitely be read prior to this book though.

I have read the first book "Outlaw Hearts" and I loved the characters. Jake and Randy were so in love with a lot of burdens behind them. Then came this story, I just couldn't wait to read. Oh, Ms Bittner has written a dynamite epic that will be long remembered. You get to feel so much in this book when things happen like the good, the bad and the ugly. Jake Harkner has done it all in his life. He's so handsome, strong, and can be mean in an instant when it concerns his family. He was an outlaw now U.S. Marshall where he gets business done in any way he wants. His son Lloyd is just like him but with a bit more human quality about him.
There is a lot going on this story with lots of bad guys wanting to kill the famous ex-outlaw and make a name for himself. But being an older, wiser man that he is, Jake couldn't have done any changing without his beloved wife Randy. She stuck by him when everything fell apart in is life.
These two people were made for each other, giving strength, caring and love. There is something wonderful when you read about a family who sticks together during so much heartache. I really feel for these people, like they were family. I can't wait until the next one comes out titled "Love's Sweet Revenge". Thank you again Ms Bittner for continuing Jake's legacy.

Outlaw Hearts was a sweeping saga of the Harkner family and I loved it! Picking up Do Not Forsake Me, I was wondering how it would match up to the first book. I was pleasantly surprised! It wasn’t as captivating as the first one, but was still pretty good, picking up shortly after the first book ended. This one focuses more on Jake and Miranda’s relationship, the effects of his career on their family, and starts delving in to Lloyd’s personal life. This was a great addition to the saga and while I wasn’t as entranced as the first book, I still enjoyed revisiting this family and plan to continue on with the third. There’s just something about this family that has me rooting them on!

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Experience the epic, sweeping story of Jake and Miranda Harkner from Bittner's beloved Outlaw Hearts, called by New York Times bestseller Heather Graham "a wonderful, absorbing read, with characters to capture the heart and the imagination".

Fate brought them together. His past may tear them apart.

Miranda Hayes' life was changed the day she faced down infamous gunslinger Jake Harkner...and walked away with his heart. Their fates have been intertwined ever since. Hunted by the law, fleeing across a savage land, their desperate love flourished despite countless sorrows. Now, twenty-six years later, their family has finally found some measure of peace...balanced on the knife's edge of danger.

Jake has spent his years as a U.S. Marshal atoning for sins, bringing law to the land he once terrorized. But no matter how hard he fights the demons of his brutal past, the old darkness still threatens to consume him. Only Miranda keeps the shadows at bay. But when outlaws looking for revenge strike a fatal blow, Jake risks losing the one woman who saw past his hard exterior and to the man inside.

He always knew there'd be the devil to pay. He just never realized he might not be the one to bear the ultimate price.

My Thoughts

After found myself fascinated with the first book in this western romance set in late 1800’s was very happy to be allowed the chance to continue the story of Jake Harkner and Miranda Hayes Harkner, their children and the entire cast of characters that inhabit this books pages.

If you have read the first book Outlaw Hearts than you know that this is a love story that transcends time and place very well. It is also however filled with brutally shocking moments that realistically resonate for the time period that it is set in as well as the occupation of the characters it follows.

What really peaked my interest in continuing with this second book however is that the events that are chronicled in this fictional tale actually are very much true to what life was like for the men and women who lived and died in the western territories of the 1800’s.

This emotionally charged follow up to Jake and Miranda's story had the ending I was hoping for as well as the action I expected.

This is a story filled with adversity, courage, love, honor and heartache. There is not one chapter that did not keep me engrossed and despite it’s length it was still over too soon for me!

I can still see the bookshelf in the library when I was a teen and pulling down a worn copy of Outlaw Hearts by Rosanne Bittner. It was the first adult romance book I remember reading. And from that moment, Jake and Randy have always been a constant favorite; Jake being someone I compare other heroes to. I was thrilled to discover when Outlaw Hearts would be released in Kindle format, Rosanne would also be releasing a sequel (Do Not Forsake Me) and then shortly after that, it was announced a 3rd book to make a Jake trilogy would be released. I was over the top excited to get more of Jake and Randy's story!

Once I got started reading Do Not Forsake Me, I struggled with putting it down... I just *had* to know what happened next! And what a ride I took! *swoon* Between feeling the intense love and desire and possession from Jake, the sweet enduring love and devotion and strength from Randy, the giggles from Little Jake, the nail-biting-edge-of-my-seat overwhelming feels from the adventures and trials and scares.... I was all over the place and loving every second! There's so much good feels that if I really tried to explain how much I loved this story, I'd be giving it all away. You just have to read it for yourself and fall in love with them too!

"Who do you belong to?"
"Jake Harkner."
"You bet your ass. I own every beautiful inch of you."
"And I own you, Jake Harkner."
*swoon*

This is definitely Jake's story - healing, forgiveness, redemption, beauty.

The ending was perfect in that you know it is a HEA for now, but you also know which door is open for the last book (Love's Sweet Revenge) in the trilogy. There's just a bit more to work through before Jake, Randy, and the kids and grandkids all get their forever HEA.

Thank you, Ms. Rosanne, for the escape you provided with Jake and Randy - I love them even more now than before. And I'll anxiously but patiently wait till September 2016 for Love's Sweet Revenge!

1892, Jeff Trubridge (reporter, Chicago Evening Journal, Jewish) arrives in Guthrie, OK, wanting to write a story about the Wild West.
Evie Harkner (Jake’s daughter, P/G, wife/mother) & Jackson Lloyd Harkner (Lil Jake, Evie’s son) had been kidnapped by a bunch of ruthless outlaws.

What is in Jake’s past that still haunts him?
Who is Ben Perry?

What did Dixie (prostitute) & Randy Harkner (wife/mother/grandmother), discuss?

Will U.S. Marshal Jackson Jake Lloyd Harkner (grandpa, 56, former outlaw, aka handsome cowboy), Deputy U.S. Marshal Lloyd Harkner (Jake’s son), & all the other law abiding citizens be able to rescue Evie & Lil Jake?
What will become of Jeff Trubridge?

Warning: This book is for adults only & contains extreme violent or graphic adult content or profanity &/or sexually explicit scenarios.
It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written wild Western adventure book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Wild West movie, or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free (Goodreads; Sourcebooks Landmark; paperback book

I tend to get attached to some of the greatest fictional characters I read about and Jake and Miranda Harkner is a couple I hated to say goodbye to after I was done with ‘Outlaw Hearts’. Lucky for me that their story continues in this sequel!

If you haven’t read the first book in which this couple met, don’t fret too much (although if I were you, I’d be getting it because it really was a wonderful beginning to their romance), because the author wrote this story so well you’ll be catching up on all their history soon enough.

I must say that what I liked the best about this story and our main protagonists is the way we were invited into their marriage. Not many authors are willing to take their readers on this trip through a life well lived and showing us what a marriage really means.

Seriously (besides “Outlander” by Diana Gabaldon), there aren’t many saga’s out there delving into the lives of middle aged heroes and heroines, so once you stumble on such a story, you just have to read it, especially if you’re my “middle age” ;)

If you’re into Western romance, complex and strong characters and plenty of action and danger, this is a must read for you.

Some spoilers may abound!

I had just read Outlaw Hearts and loved it so I was so happy to read book 2 and to also know this great series is continuing! Personally I think I loved book one more but this one was great and had a solid story and great action. I love jake and Miranda and it's great to see the family growing. I didn't like Lloyd so much in book 1, but he really grew up here and it was nice to see. The only thing is that I wished we could see more of him and Katie falling in love. I didn't really understand the point of killing off Beth if Katie was going to just be the same type of character. So maybe in the next book we will see more of who she is and get some insight into her character.

I loved the side story of Ben coming into their lives, I always wanted them to have another child and this was a great way to have it happen.

All in all, great addition and a smooth transition.. You would never think there was 20 years between these first 2 books! Can't wait for book 3 and to see what happens now that they moved to CO! (Ps- loved that they are moving back there because I was never fully comfortable with jake having to be a Marshall.)

Watch out, Jake Harkner, you're about to be usurped by your own son, Lloyd. I wanted to say that because Lloyd is quickly taking front and center for me. That isn't to say that Jake still isn't the star of our show. He is. Definitely. I was just caught up in Lloyd's story too.

Jake and Miranda are facing some tough times. Jake is a full-fledged US Marshal and Lloyd is his deputy. They're always chasing outlaws and bad guys and the situations seldom have happy endings. Jake, being a former outlaw himself, knows how these people think and knows how to outsmart them and does it on a regular basis. Somebody always ends up dead, though...or badly beaten. Jake is now 56 years old, but he is still one badass no one wants to mess with. Lloyd is following in his footsteps, maybe a bit too closely.

Jeff Trubridge is a reporter from Chicago and is trying to do a story on Jake, but as he watches the man work and sees how he interacts with his family, he realizes that a story isn't going to do it. Jake needs a book. This takes Jeff, who is young and has never held a gun in his life, to places he's never dreamed of seeing and dealing with people with the likes he's only read about it. I liked him and I liked the way he interacted with Jake and the other Harkner's. He became real friends with all of them.

But as things go, Jake is prey as well as the hunter. He's got some men mad at him for taking out a couple of their family members when he tried to arrest them for robbery and rape. This leads to revenge for those two families and when they take Evie and Little Jake, it's revenge for Jake and Lloyd too. You do not mess with Harkner family and with Evie being Jake's little angel and Little Jake being so much like Jake himself, the guys that took her and his grandson had just opened the gates of Hell.

This was a crazy good story and a continuation from Outlaw Hearts, the first book in the series. There's a lot of action, adventure, and some very sweet moments, especially between Jake and Miranda, the latter who has fallen ill and has Jake twisted into knots. I laughed a few times and I cried more than once. There were some heartfelt moments between many of the characters, including Jake and Lloyd.

You might be able to get by with reading this without reading Outlaw Hearts first, but I don't recommend it. There are many references to situations that occurred in the first book. Why get it in an abbreviated format when you can have a front row seat and watch it unfold as it happened?

Stellar read this was and I'm anxious to move onto the next book.

I think I have a new author to stalk follow in Roseanne Bittner: the writing and characterization is wonderfully done with characters that dance above the norm for romance: mid 40’s and 50’s. While there was a solid romance sense in the feeling and progression of the story, for me calling this a family saga better explains the breadth and scope of this story. Placing the romance as a secondary, even tertiary element allowed for the history and connections of the characters to speak louder.

Picking up from the first in the series, we are now following the lives of Jake and Miranda, he now serving his “time” as a Federal Marshall in the Oklahoma Territory. A wild and untamed place, while Jake isn’t unwilling to make amends for his crimes of the past he truly wants to commute this sentence to find a peaceful life. This story follows the ‘waiting time’ for the answer on his pardon/commutation.

A lovely couple, Miranda is in her 40’s, Jake is slightly older in his 50’s. These two have survived everything the west can throw at them: disease, hunger, hard work, and even Jake’s punishment for his crimes. Now all they want is some peace and quiet, time to enjoy their family, retirement of a sort. But, of course, life isn’t always like that.

Bittner takes the reader on a journey that is emotional, easy to relate to and mixes those with the elements and incidents that are true to the life and environment of the time: not always pretty, neat or clean. As a stand-alone, the story and characters are engaging and engrossing, transporting readers to the center of the setting, rich in description and imagery. I do think that the full impact of the story and the connection between Jake and Miranda would have been more impactful with having read the first book: something I am intending to remedy soon.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This is a sequel to OUTLAW HEARTS. Although you can read this book without having read the first one, I think it is extra enjoyable having read the beginning of this couple's life.

Miranda and Jake are now in their 40s. I absolutely love that fact because so many of our heroes and heroines are in their early 20s. I also like that we get to see the characters after their children are grown and married with children. I often wish I could look into the future and see how the characters' lives are. Of course, I enjoy coming up with my own story, but it is fun to see the author's idea for a change.

Jake is now a U.S. Marshall in Oklahoma. He lives there with Miranda, his children, Lloyd and Evie and their grandchildren, Stephen and Little Jake. Jake is trying to atone for his life as an outlaw - for when he robbed and killed innocent people.

Unfortunately, lots of people are out to kill Jake. They think they will become heroes for killing such a tough guy lawman. There are also journalists who want to interview Jake and tell his story. One such man is Jeff Trubridge who wants to write a book based on Jake's life.

Unfortunately, Jake discovers that people who are out to get him will also hurt the people he love. I will not spoil the book, but this part is very exciting and shows us how strong Jake and Miranda's mirrage.

I enjoyed this book very much, and I am happy that I waited to read the two books back to back so I could remember the beginning of this couple's life together as I am reading about their life as a mature middle-aged couple.

This is book 2 in the Outlaw Hearts series.

It's been two years since Jake Harkner got out of prison and started being a U.S. Marshall. He knew that it would not be an easy life, but hoped that it wouldn't endanger the lives of his family. After a run-in with a particularly nasty family of outlaws, Jake must hunt them down.

Right before he is to leave, Jake finds out that his beloved Miranda is sick. He wants to be there for her, but he has to go after the outlaws for he could risk going back to prison.

Jake soon learns that the outlaws are after his family to get back at him for killing several members of their family. Can he catch the outlaws before they destroy the only good thing to ever happen to him?

LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this!!! I grew to love Miranda and Jake while reading Outlaw Hearts and am so glad that Bittner continued their story (and there is going to be another one!!!) The kids are grown up and have families of their own making Miranda and Jake grandparents. But their passion is still red hot.

There are few characters that I would be able to read three full length novels about their lives without getting bored, but Jake and Miranda are definitely two people that I could keep reading about. I can't wait to see how Bittner finishes off the series!! Although I'll be very sad to see it end...

Thanks go out to SourceBooks via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

In this western historical romance (a sequel to Outlaw Hearts), Miranda (Randy) and U.S. Marshall Jake Harkner have been married for 26 years. Their children are grown and married, and the parents and the children’s families are very close. When Jake and their son Deputy Marshall Lloyd Harkner take down a gang of bank robbers and rapists, the result is a revenge plot targeting Jake and his family.

Jake’s reputation throughout the West is formidable. He is intimidating, private and loyal. As an exception, he has agreed to meet Jeff Trubridge, a young reporter from Chicago who wants to write his biography. Jeff is in town on the day Jake and Lloyd ride in with several Bryants and Buckleys captured or dead. Jeff’s perspective and a witness and an eventual participant in the story broadens the narrative.

Although some parts of the novel are repetitive and wordy as readers to this sequel are brought up to speed, the depth of Jake and Randy’s marriage, the concerns and history they share, are moving and unique. So many romances deal with the first blush of a relationship. These people have endured many challenges to their relationship and have others to face in this novel. Do Not Forsake Me should appeal to the readers of westerns, historical novels and those who enjoy Linda Lael Miller and Julie Garwood.

I'm so glad Rosanne Bittner decided to write a sequel to Outlaw Hearts. It's not very often that a romance follows the entire course of a relationship. Randy and Jake Harkner are together after 20+ years of marriage. Their children are grown and have children of their own. Jake is in his 50s, Randy in her 40s, and they are experiencing middle-age together. Age has not diminished their love, and the family is very close. A reporter comes to town who wants to write a book about Harkner's life, as an outlaw, and as a sheriff. Jake will only assent if Randy says it is ok, which she does, and the reporter follows Jake on a case to capture a bunch of outlaws who are out to get revenge on Jake.

I like that Jake and Randy stand by each other through everything they encounter in life. Jake supports Randy when they discover she has tumors on her ovaries, and Randy supports Jake even though he has led a tortured life and is still haunted by parts of his past. They are characters one wishes exist in realty, but there are far too few Jakes and Randys anymore. A great imagining of the Old West and a lovely story of two people's devotion to each other through all of life's diversity.

As I finished the last sentence of this phenomenal book, tears spring from my eyes. Very few authors have a way of bringing such characters into your life and holding on to your heart after the story has ended. We are very lucky to be living during a time when the true Queen Of Historical Romance, Rosanne Bittner, keeps delivering epic novels that are forever engraved in our hearts.
Do Not Forsake Me is such an emotional roller coaster. Jake and Randy have totally engulfed me. Truly the heartwarming epic and long awaited sequel to the beloved Outlaw Hearts we all have waited 20 years to read. Phenomenal!!!!

So worth more than 5 stars

Rosannes books just keep getting better! They show the true love for family and how they take care of their own! You can just feel the love between Jake and Randy. How they overcame Jakes horrible past. Thanks again Rosanne for another beautifully written story!

A continuation of the series #2

Roseanne Bittner is becoming my favorite author. Her writing is full of plot , action, love and healing. This is the continuation of Jake and Randy Harkner, their children and grandchildren. Excellent story, suspense and conclusion. Well worth it. Read the first book first!

To many Jake Harkner would always be a gunslinger, although he is a US Marshal now. But to Miranda he is the love of her life. With all that Jake has faced in his life, nothing compares to not being by Miranda side when she has to have surgery. But when you mess with Jake's family you're asking for trouble.

Story keeps you wondering all the time.

I loved OUTLAW HEARTS, and this well-written saga continues the story of Jake & Miranda and their children. It's a long book, and a lot happens, but Bittner keeps things moving and of course I'm going to pick up the third book in the series to finish it off. (Can I also say it was really nice to see the central couple of a romance novel be over the age of 30?)
