Journalist Freda “Fred” Davis is bitterly opposed to romance of any kind after a string of heartbreaks and lies left her reeling in pain. When those same lies cause her to lose everything, she’s forced to start over. But a man is not a part of her plan until she meets an older, temperamental, irascible billionaire who takes an immediate interest in her. And although he shows her nothing but concern and kindness, she refuses to believe that a man like him could be any different than all the other jokers who showed an interest in her too, only to break her heart. Until she is at her lowest and needs him, and he risks his own life to protect hers and she discovers that her heart just may speak far louder than her head. I was hooked from page one and stayed up late to finish reading it. My heart just went out to Freda "Payne" Davis. Poor girl just could not get a break. She was abandoned at eight years old and was told at a young age that she was not worth being loved. She carried that hurt with her all of her life. When she went to interview Jeremiah Demetrius "JD" Langley, a billionaire entrepreneur, he could see the hurt and pain in her eyes. He just wanted to protect her and love her but he felt that she was too good for the likes of him. Fred could see the pain and anguish in his eyes too. Just when she thought she finally had a true connection with somebody, she mistook his note for a Dear John letter and she swore off all men. Especially after she was lied on and lost her job.
No one in her entire life had ever been kind to her except JD. But his babies mommas weren't happy with what was going on between the entrepreneur and the journalist. JD couldn't understand why he was so drawn to Fred. She challenged him at every step of their relationship and did not let anyone walk all over her. JD was used to getting his way and women just let him walk all over him for a chance to be his kept woman. They knew the deal with him and he let them lnow up front. Fred was the woman he needed in his life and so did his children.
This was a roller coaster ride of a drama that had me all in my feelings. I cried and I laughed reading about Fred and JD's mental anguish in trying to figure how they would deal with each other and their relationship. In the end, Fred found out some myths of her childhood that was like the weight of the whole world just lifted off of her shoulders. Her life was turning around because of JD and his love for her.
JD, and Freda, are my new favorite couple. Such a sweet love between them. But JD and his kids and his baby mama drama, sounds a lot like Mick Sinatra, and his family drama. Cathy, and Diane, such greed between them too. What they tried to do for JD billions, speechless. I love the way JD, love and took care of Freda. It was so pure and true. Makes you, wish that men like him really do exist in real life. The way JD, brought closure to Freda, about her mother, that melted my heart. This was a very good read. I definitely recommend it. I wish it could continue with his children. Especially Harrison, his oldest son.
This was really, really good! I could not put my Kindle down! This also will tear at your heart strings. I am glad that JD and Freda got their HEA. This also reminds me of Roz and Mick the Tick! JD has the temperament like Mick, too! He has baby mamas and all of them competing for his attention and money! And, Freda is like Roz who has his heart and the baby mamas cannot stand it! I love this story!
It was heart wrenching, sad, mean and ugly; the main male character was crass, mean and down right ugly at times; the main female character was sad lonely, with trust issues but with strong morale ideals and good work ethic. The male was a womanizer and had no permanent home a very strange billionaire.. I loved the story even with a somewhat sad and than a happy ending. Kudos to the author excellent read☺!!!
As ever superb storytelling, excellent characters. I got through this book in one sitting, release just in time to make it my Mother's Day gift to me 😍. I Back to the book 😉, what I enjoy about this profiles writing is the build up of the characters and the story it's not just a romance it has twists and turns to keep you in your toes.
This story was suspenseful, mysterious, romantic, and definitely a tear jerker. The story line and the characters were captivating. It was difficult to put this book down, and I was sorry when it ended. It was good to see good things happen to a good and deserving person.
A story from start to finish...wow mz.Mallory never fails to give you a exceptionally phenomenal story with amazing characters and a superb plot with twists and turns while you hold on to your seat for what's next....once you start reading you can't put it down I need more...
As usual you did it again! I really enjoyed this book! Talented as usual and always! Question: You’ve been writing These single romances, When are you going to give us another series? Enjoy you so very much! Keep up the good work!
This was so greater read, JD reminds me of Mick, therefore I hope you write more of his and Fred's adventure. I want to see Carmen, Reno and Tree's sons story he is funny and smart as hell, keep writing and I'll keep read. Be blessed.
What a phenomenal read! With twists and turns and just the right about of adventure, action, love and Roman. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and can’t wait for Mallory’s next book. She is the absolute BEST!
It's a hard story to get into how JD found Freda, 'Fred' found each other attractive. Thus was a slow start and didn't like Harrison and Iris mother Cathy was an evil woman.
This story didn't quite resonate with me for romance or drama.
At first I thought it was too much like Mick Sinatra and his backstory, but then the story itself pulled me in on its own. It was fast paced and exciting, as well as suspenseful! Well done, but I expect nothing less of a Mallory Monroe book.
This story was as good as the Gabrini and cousin series. This needs a series of it's own. I actually started to cry at the end it was so beautiful. Mallory you are the best at story writing. Keep them coming. I have read them all but one.
