This is his story, how a picture perfect family in an idyllic town in the South went off the rails - thanks to abuse, murder, cover-up, and the good ol’ boys club.
3.4 This book has my whole town talking! Not named, but obviously set in Minden, Louisiana with ties to both Jonesville and Jena as well, this story has enough facts to make you wonder if it's actually a true story or not. "Evan" endures abuse and calculated mistreatment by his father before and especially after his mother's suicide (or was it murder?) Evan spirals out of control trying to deal with the aftermath while also wanting to protect his siblings from his mother's fate. The book needs some editing, but it's interesting and has tongues wagging.
When I saw this book posted on a friend's page, knowing it was about an old school, hometown, "secret," I knew I had to read it. IT DID NOT DISSAPOINT!!! It is embarassing that this was covered up for so long, but hopefully the release of the whole story will help the surviving children continue to heal.
This book was heartbreaking. Being a short book it was easy to follow and didn’t have much fluff but it still hit to the core. It is rumored to be a true story and based in a town in the state of Louisiana. If it is, I am so sorry to Evan for the mistreatment and the struggles he went through.
I live near the place this transpired, though it happened before my birth. I 100% believe this particular town and people here are not only capable but also try to keep it hidden still. It's a very good, eye opening book and my hope is that an investigation is opened and justice is served (even after death) because of it.
