Compton Valance #1

The Most Powerful Boy in the Universe

Rate this book
When Compton Valance and his best friend Bryan Nylon discover the world's first TIME MACHINE (aka a mouldy, thirteen-week-old-cheese-and-pickled-egg sandwich), they become the most powerful boys in the universe.

But how will Compton and Bryan decide to use their incredible new time-travelling powers? Will they use them for good? Will they use them for evil? Or will they just focus their efforts on perfecting a formula for the world's first pair of custard trousers?

Things are about to get totally scrambled for Compton Valance.

Hi there I'm Matt and I'm the author of the COMPTON VALANCE series, ALIENS INVADED MY TALENT SHOW and the creator of THE WORD MONKEYS podcast.

My latest book, ALIENS INVADED MY TALENT SHOW, is about a boy called Eric Doomsday and his best friend, Vinnie Mumbles. Together they have to stop two aliens from destroying the earth.

Compton Valance is a boy who accidentally creates a time machine and does things like wipe out the dinosaurs with a packet of biscuits and turn his dad into a woman. It's funny and totally gross so you'll LOVE IT! ;)

The first book in the series, COMPTON VALANCE: THE MOST POWERFUL BOY IN THE UNIVERSE came out in JUNE 2014. The second book, COMPTON VALANCE: THE TIME TRAVELLING SANDWICH BITES BACK was published in OCT 2014. The third book, COMPTON VALANCE: SUPER F.A.R.T.S VERSUS THE MASTER OF TIME was published in JUNE 2015. The fourth book, COMPTON VALANCE: THE REVENGE OF THE FANCYPANTS TIME PIRATE will be published in APRIL 2016.

Compton Valance, the Most Powerful Boy in the Universe is a funny children’s book, ideal for the 9-12 age group. Lizzie Finlay’s quirky illustrations really bring the story to life and totally make this book worth the comparison to Diary of a Wimpy Kid and the Tom Gates series.

I will say that with the time-travel aspects of the story, it could get a little confusing for children but I think if you were reading this with your child this wouldn’t be a problem.

This is a funny and exciting first book to the series and I must admit, I went straight out to the local bookshop to buy the second one as soon as I finished this.

Very funny and quite clever children's time travel story - featuring a sandwich

Yes, a sandwich is the time travel device. That's going to get a lot of children interested. It's a cheese and pickle sandwich, left fermenting in a school bag for several weeks, if you want to know. And you have to eat it to time travel. Yup, that should get the attention of most 9-year-olds.

Compton and his best friend discover this amazing power by chance, and end up going back in time and changing their own pasts, even changing Compton's time-obsessed father into a man wearing dresses!

It's silly, but actually, gives a good idea on the paradoxes of time travel, what might happen, time streams and the notions of changing the past.

Features lots of very silly character names as well, but is a quick and quirky read and a good choice for reluctant readers, with lots of short chapters, author chats, disgusting sandwiches, and awful parents/teachers.

I read the audio version which was clearly spoken and an easy listen.

One for ages 8 to 12.

Brilliantly funny. My children and I were blown away with its madcap humour. Unapologetically silly.

This boy is a really good book, where there are the boy Tavel in time with a sandwich. This book is not really cause a sandwich doesn’t make you Tavel but in time.
