They made their choices. They were born special. They live their lives being powerful, having unimaginable abilities....But each gift comes with the price and they are forced to pay it. Is the gift worth it?
I read this on my phone when it was first published and let me tell you, I could not have been more lost. This was absolutely my own fault. I just struggle to read things on my phone. Anyway, I always had it in the back of my mind to reread a physical copy so I could put the pieces in the right places and I am so glad I did.
I wish my mind was full of wonderful characters and stories like those in this book. There aren't many pages so this is a quick read but impactful. I experienced a blanket of emotions with this one. As with other books by Alinar Den, there could be so much more to these characters and their stories but it isn't necessary for the book to be complete.
At times this story reminded me of "All the Ugly and Wonderful Things" by Bryn Greenwood (the book I hate to love) because I found myself rooting for a relationship that just should not be. The desire to read one more page will keep your laundry in the washing machine and your dinner uncooked (my family hates when I become absorbed in a book).
I fell in love with the characters in this book quickly. This story gives a voice to embracing the uniqueness of others. The love and support between characters is heartwarming as is the acceptance. Every time I had to put the book down I was left thinking about it and impatient to get back to it so I could find out what happens next.
It is so easy to fall in love with the way Alinar writes her characters. Something so refreshing and real about the personalities and dialogue between them. Another brilliant story.
