Most diabetes cookbooks rely on artificial sweeteners or not-so-real substitutions to reduce calories, sugar, and fat, but often at the expense of flavor. The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook takes a different approach, focusing on naturally delicious fresh foods and whole-food ingredients to create fantastic meals that deliver amazing taste and well-rounded nutrition. And absolutely nothing is artificial. Natural, fresh cooking isn't just healthy—it's delicious!
The plus: the recipes did use real food instead of mixes and pre-packaged mixes.
But aside from that, I would NEVER have guessed this was a diabetes cookbook. The recipes had a lot of sugar. And they weren't particularly healthy - vegetables were not prominent in most recipes, and 90% of the vegetables that were in there were onions or green peppers. And the recipes were not flavorful.
I should write a cookbook! The recipes I make are much healthier and tastier.
This is a pretty good recipe book. I don't have diabetes, I was just interested in looking up ways to eat a healthier diet. All of the recipes seem easy to make and pretty healthy. I'm not a nutritionist but I looked up the ingredients to some of the recipes and they are low in sugar compared to "normal" recipes. The sweet endings are my favorite because dessert is my love language!
Excellent resource for the modern diabetic chef. Many conatin items unheard of years ago, such as soy milk, soy yogurt, stevia, edamamae, etc. Natural products to increase your protein etc. I liked the format, while it has no photos, each page may have cute food facts and tips. Nice book.
The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook: The Whole Food Approach to Great Taste and Healthy Eating by Jackie Newgent R.D. is a collection of plant-based, nutritiously well-rounded, simple-to-fix recipes. Now out in its second edition, the book has been updated to include vegetarian and quick-fix recipes, tips for achieving high flavor and suggested menus.
I love eating healthfully and thought this would be a good addition to my growing collection of diabetes-related cookbooks.
