But she makes friends with some of her captors, in particular, a young girl solder, who reveals to Sarah her own harrowing story and leaves Sarah wrestling with the idea that her kidnappers may be more captive than herself.
Warren FitzGerald lives in London. His debut novel 'The Go-Away Bird' won an Amazon Rising Stars Award in the same year in 2010 and in 2011 was longlisted for The Authors’ Club Best First Book Award. It was also Waterstones’ Book of the Month in October 2011.

Tying Down the Sun is set in the jungle of northern Colombia. Sarah, a college age Libyan/English tourist is held along with others as a captive by a terrorist organization. The revolutionaries include a gun-toting young runaway named Luz. Sarah and Luz become unlikely friends and remain in touch even after the kidnappers release their hostages. Tying Down the Sun is well written and easily read. The hype said it was based on a true story, but nothing in the book itself indicated that it was. Either way, I'm recommending Tying Down the Sun to all my reading friends.
