Storm Surge by Logan Ryles is another great adventure with Mason Sharpe, who still deals with what happened in book one. This time there is a hurricane as one of the main characters. Even though I sometimes thought that Sharpe acted as a duracell bunny I still enjoyed the book and I will recommend this series to folks that wants some fast paced suspense.
Mason Sharpe Series: Source: Ryles' ARC team. Storm Surge, #6 - NOLA. A Cat. 5 Hurricane. Rednecks. A kidnapped, handicapped child. And that's not all that happens in this intense story. Interesting characters and intriguing story lines make this an easy to read, hard to put down, fast paced, action filled read. 15* Mason Sharpe Series end.
Point Blank - I almost stopped reading when man was faster than a bullet out of a gun jammed under his throat. There are a couple more "get real, dude"! Otherwise, I discovered this is an interesting bit of entertainment. Good characters, typical good ol' redneck bubbas, and good story lines. The S&W's fate bothered me, it's not a Glock. 4*
Take Down, #2 - Immersing and interesting and actually better than Point Blank, which I also liked. Street punk turned Army vet turned police officer suffering the loss of his fiancee, roams the highways in his ole GMC truck. Helping a kid in Atlanta has Sharpe in a whole new can of woes. Good story lines mixed with characters that you either like or hate made for hard to put down entertainment. 5*
End Game, #3 - This is the third book by Ryles that I have to finish once I start reading. EG is interesting, intriguing and immersing with well written story lines and interesting, good supporting characters. There is violence but not in graphic detail and no profanity. This story takes place about eight months after losing Mia. The continuing original story lines is well blended with the new. Read this in order, although it is not necessary, and Ryles is good about not rehashing the previous books. The ending came too soon but the ride was great. Source: Booksprout and the author. 5*
Fire Team, #4 - Make sure your ducks are in a row and quacking because this is finish in one sitting read. This my favorite genre and this series is one of my favorites. Mr. Ryles always delivers a well written, well thought out and entertaining story. Believable and realistic story lines, characters and action scenes. AI is the feature theme of this story but the elements of hope, suffering, love, grief, patriotism and doing the right thing are always present in each story. The rental choice is hilarious, which opened all sorts of imagined scenarios. 5*
Flash Point, #5 - Definitely a fast-paced, entertaining read. Lots of happenings going on and lots of people after Mason; like they say, no good deed .... A variety of characters, interesting story lines, some humor, and that poor truck. No matter what happens to Mason, even after what happens with Mia's Bible, he keeps true to himself. 5*
Prosecution Force Series: Source: Ryles' ARC team. Failed State, #4 - My first of this series and I did not miss the first three books. Standalone, interesting with Wolfgang as a member of another "group". 4*
Firestorm, #5 - Totally mesmerizing. I could not put down this action-filled, fast-paced, intriguing story with its great, and no so good, characters and interesting story lines. Enjoyed Wolfgang's prosthesis. 15*

The story begins with Mason in Mobile, Al. where he befriends Jessica and her daughter Autumn. Jessica has just received a notice from the court that she can take Autumn to Calif. to live. Jessica's divorced husband has tried to stop her from doing that. When Jessica returned from the bank, she found Autumn was missing. After Mason checked with the motel office, he found that Jessica's ex Randy had taken her. Mason and Jessica then go to get Autumn back. Once they arrive and Mason attempts to get Autumn, both Jessica and Mason are attacked and left for dead. It seems that there is a hurricane coming. Mason awakes and finds Jessica injured and he tales her to the hospital. He is treated and Jessica is taken into surgery where she comes out with a 50/50 chance of living. Mason then tells her that he would find Autumn.
Mason remembered something he had overheard about where she might have been taken. He then begins his trek to New Orleans where he hopes to find her. This requires him to drive right into the path of the hurricane. Once he arrives in New Orleans, he has no idea where to find her. As the storm hits, he comes across one of the vehicles that the attackers at Randy's had driven in. In then searched the inside hoping to find a clue.
To discover what clue Mason found, where she was located and all of the obstacles that he had to overcome to save her, then you need to read this book. You won't be sorry.
Nonstop Thriller! This was a very busy part of Mason Sharpe's life after war. After being a soldier for so long, and then trying to find a medium afterwards, a place to belong... he finds himself waiting for this hurricane to go through, and chatting with others who are there, like a mother Jessica who has just received great news that she has won her court battle, and has full custody of her paralyzed daughter Autumn, and is planning to go to California where she has a grant to a special school for her for gifted children. The snag, is that her father does not want to give her up, he thinks that his daughter is his property and he can do what he wants! Mason is kind of like a mix of the 'Reacher' books and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator, a real Bad-A$$ good guy! To say that he battles a storm to save a girl, and part of a city too, is kind of the gist of the book. It is non-stop action, and is very informative, without being a textbook. This is the first of this series I have read at this time, and it was good as a standalone, however I think it would probably add even more to the background of Mason if the entire series was read in order. Thank you, Logan Ryles for a great story! I received a complimentary copy of this story, and this is my honest review.
Logan Ryles - Storm Surge. (A Mason Sharpe thriller.)
Another complete masterpiece!
Logan Ryles does it again! A mission with a purpose!.. Storm Surge takes you on another intrepid journey with Mason Sharpe, doing the right thing. This time on the cusp of a cat five hurricane… This is a white knuckle ride from start to finish. I could not put the book down.
Ryles dynamic style for scene setting, descriptive storytelling powers, character development is second to none! I do have a favourite in the Mason Sharpe series, this is now close to top. Each story written by Logan Ryles delivers the same incredible qualities.
‘Storm Surge’ holding a deep message or more within.
There are only certain- writers who leave you or, hold the ability to make you feel such a way; when during the reading of the story. Within your own time, that you stop with the‘chills’ catching at the back of your neck. When thinking back to the novel- reflecting. This epic story generated just that sensation.
I am really looking forward to the next instalment. I can only thank you, from the heart!
The brilliant daughter of a "neighbor" (in the same hotel) of Mason's is kidnapped by her non-custodial father in the day before a Category 5 hurricane hits the Louisiana coast. Because all the emergency service personnel are involved in preparing for the hurricane, only Mason is available to rescue her.
And there is (of course) a much bigger plot involved than a simple kidnapping.
The plot is set in what is fundamentally a rerun of Katrina in New Orleans, which adds friction to the rescue attempt. The pace is relentless (to the point of only being possible for an action hero), and the constant stream of frustrations for the protagonist does get a bit repetitive. But it's compelling enough that you only really notice that after you finish the book and take time to reflect.
The supporting characters are done very well, with the daughter and a retired N.O. police detective being especially sympathetic. Mason seems to be progressing down the road of making peace with his losses, but he clearly has some distance still to go.
The conclusion of the story is memorable, and consistent with Mason's established character.
Want to read a suspenseful thriller set mostly in New Orleans within the backdrop of a Category 5 Hurricane? Look no further than Storm Surge by Logan Ryles. Our hero is Mason Sharpe, an Army Veteran, who is sheltering in a motel in Mobile, Alabama. Mason meets a mother (Jessica) and daughter (Autumn) while staying there and they become friendly. However, Autumn vanishes right as the hurricane is about to hit land. Jessica believes Autumn’s father Randy has kidnapped her, and she asks Mason for help. Mason finds out that Randy is in a gang and this gang has a plan to go looting in the city after the hurricane.
The book was great, the action was non-stop, and the main character Mason just won’t stop until the mission is accomplished. His character is written well and I like the back and forth with his past and his present. The writing regarding the storm was very descriptive. In fact, all the descriptions were precise. I don’t usually read this type of book, but I’m glad I took a chance on this one!

Mason finds himself this time in Louisiana just when Hurricane Nadia hits, with a force similar to Katrina. He sets out to get back a young disabled girl, Autumn, whose father has abducted her from her mother, and is in New Orleans right at the time of impact. The description of the weather and the devastation is causes is excellent, and I found the sense of terror and destruction very real and palpable. It added to the overall tension in the book.
There's a lot more going on here than just a hurricane and an abducted girl. Something bigger is afoot and I enjoyed how Mason was always on the back foot here , trying to stay alive and help others while endeavouring to track Autumn and her father down. The pace is non-stop and I raced through it. I can't believe this is the sixth book already and I hope there's many more to come.

Mason Sharpe is the kind of guy who just can't help himself when it comes to helping others in need. This time, he literally goes into the eye of the hurricane to get back a friend's kidnapped girl from her deadbeat father and his cohorts. In time, the plot thickens when he figures out the bad guys are after a big payoff in the hurricane's aftermath and don't care how many thousands of storm-struck survivors they take down to pay the price for their greed.
With his Swiss Army knife and MacroStream flashflight the main weapons at hand, Mason has to rely on both wit and a lot of grit to find the girl and prevent an even greater disaster. The word pictures throughout take you right into the storm, literally and figuratively.
In my honest opinion, this is the best Mason Sharpe book yet! I highly recommend you jump right in.

Mason Sharpe Army Vet and ex-police detective, now spend time drifting from one place to another spending time at different locations doing the odd job to help make ends meet. He has seen love and she was murdered and he has been carrying her bible around with him although he is not religious. Wherever he goes he always ends up helping some poor person, and this time he befriends a 10-year-old gifted girl called Autumn but she is paralysed from the waist down. She is so gifted that she has won a scholarship but her father a roughneck will not let his daughter leave the area but a court says differently, so he kidnaps her. Her mother pleads with Mason to help find her and bring her back. He does have an ulterior motive for kidnapping her and when they catch up with him which is New Orleans he beats Jessica her mother to an inch of her life and disappears again and she begs Mason to find her. Now this novel is full of action and they say a cat has nine lives but this moggy defies even that. I did read the novel before this one and that was very James Bond but this goes even further, It is entertaining and well written but you need a good imagination.
Mason is in Alabama/Mississippi trying to get a Bible that belonged to his deceased fiancee Mia . After six books, Mason still hasn't come to terms with her death & there is a bit of religious undertones here.
He is staying in a no star hotel and has become friendly with neighbor Jessica and disabled daughter Autumn. Jessica is waiting for a judgement on custody so Autumn can go to a gifted school in CA but right when the good news comes, Autumn is taken by abusive Dad -Randy.
Mason, of course can't let this go and hunts Randy & friends through three states culminating in New Orleans during a severe hurricane. There is more to Randy & his buddies than the kiddnapping of Autumn and it's going to happen in the midst of the hurricane- can Mason stop them and recover Autumn? He is portrayed as super-human with more stamina than the average guy-is that actually possible and are there such people?
A 3.75 rounded to 4 stars cause I like the series.
A nail biting, high octane story that had me frantically turning pages. You definitely have to suspend reality since Mason manages to keep going despite brutal beatings and the fall out of a class 5 hurricane. Some of the descriptors got a little repetitive but I guess there are only so many ways to describe the putrid smell of death and destruction after a catastrophic natural disaster. This is book 4 in the Mason Sharpe series and while this book can be read as a stand alone, the reader will get a better understanding of Mason’s background if they read the previous books.
I received a free copy from Booksprout. This is my unbiased review.
Mason has spent the last couple weeks at a motel down in Mobile. Jessica and her 10 yr old daughter Autumn have been there too. Autumn has no use of her legs, but is a certifiable genius. It has been a pleasant couple of weeks until Jessica's ex and his redneck friends kidnapped Autumn, beat Jessica to within an inch of her life and did quite a job on Sharpe too. Doesn't stop him from going after them. Where they are headed, is New Orleans, right into the center of a category 5 hurricane. This is page turning, and even gut wrenching at times, action that you are just not going to want to put down!
I hate not starting series at the beginning but this synopsis was so interesting to me that I opted to do so and I am glad I did. I am always fascinated by storms and this one had a big one. Add in Mason’s need to rescue Autumn through this vicious storm and it is a never-ending thrill ride. The writing flowed well and was easy to follow. The action was non-stop and I was exhausted for Mason as he went through the book – it’s way too much for the average person! Highly recommended as a standalone but I will be going back to read the rest of the series.
I received a copy from #NetGalley for an honest review.
Of a level 5 hurricane in Louisiana. There are several other Mason Sharpe characters that various writers have written . All of them are men and a few women who have faced battle and returned not quite whole. They then find a path that leads them to random encounters with someone who needs help and those life meets show that is their new life path. Mason is a good guy who uses his military taught skills to save a paralyzed young girl and her mother from a domineering father and prevent a massive robbery in New Orleans during a hurricane. Good story as usual the hero is not well armed but manages to thwart the robbery.
Mason Sharpe is at it again. The ex-Army, ex-cop is still fighting his own demons while he fights others on behalf of those who can’t. As another hurricane approaches, the daughter of his friend is abducted by her father and taken to New Orleans which is right in the path of the storm. With a variety of sub-plots along the way, he makes friends and enemies who add to the drama and affect the exciting climax. I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and voluntarily provided an honest review.
This was a great adventure thriller book staring Mason Sharpe. His character is written well. He has some past demons haunting him as he tries to figure out his purpose and future direction. This story has him trying to save a handicap kidnapped girl while a category 5 hurricane wrecks havoc in New Orleans. The action was constant as he had to overcome several obstacles to save the girl and himself. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

A flood of tears accompanying the finish of one of the bet series I have read!
Entertainment and exciting....yes. Heart breaking also at times. Yet this series of books provided more answers to unasked questions and inner peace than I could ever have imagined. I have walked in similar shoes and though I am elderly and female, the pain resonates. My heartfelt thanks to both the author and Mason for helping me find a path. There are not enough stars in the sky to rate this series or express my gratitude....
A good fast moving thriller that has Mason Sharpe becoming involved with a mother and handicapped child. An involvement that has him taking the girls mother to hospital after assault by her husband and other gang members followed by him tracking the girl who had been kidnapped. Eventual catching up with the girl as the forecasted hurricane hit Mason uses every skill to rescue her and thwart the gang’s effort by defusing a bomb and overcoming other obstacles to return the girl to her mother.
I rarely give one star reviews, because most books I get are readable and may be entertaining for some people. This book, however, is based on so much nonsense and stupidity that it's better not reading it. Most important: If you go into a disaster zone, you risk not only your own life, but the lives of people that may try to rescue you. And please learn CPR from people who know what they are doing.
This thriller was so good! I totally finished this in one day! Mason Sharp kept me intrigued the entire time while reading this book. I can’t really recall slow times, this book jumped from the beginning. Dealing with a hurricane coming into Louisiana, Mason is taking shelter in Alabama and makes friends with Jessica and ten year old Autumn. This is where the story picks up and definitely takes off. Thank you Netgalley for this read!
This is the 6th book in the Mason Sharpe series and this is just as great as the previous ones. Mason is sheltered down in Alabama awaiting a hurricane that is about to make landfall. While hunkering down he meets Jessica and her gifted 10 year old daughter Autumn. Jessica and Autumn are fleeing Jessica's abusive husband. Autumn suddenly disappears just as the hurricane is about to make landfall. Jessica begs Mason for help finding Autumn and getting her back.
Mason has been in Mobile for a week, waiting for Mia's Bible to be restored, when he learns of an approaching hurricane. He befriends Jessica and her daughter, Autumn, who are waiting for court papers to leave the state. When Autumn disappears and Jessica is attacked by her father, Mason does everything he can to reunite them. This story has a scene of severe (ex)partner abuse and lots of action, ending on a happy note. Very highly recommended.
Totally unbelievable heroism to the point of absurdity. Logan Ryles is a master of excitement, warfare, weapons, brutality and extreme knowledge of the South. I've enjoyed numerous novel written by him, always with a lonely, conflicted, guilt ridden, sad hero. But Mason Sharpe was far too extreme! No human (even fictional) could achieve yet survive the non stop life threatening experiences in Storm Surge! His detailed description of hurricane damage and the South was enlightening.
Save the young girl, save NOLA. DO BOTH. Mason takes on mother nature and a host of bad guys as he finds himself in a personal crisis of faith about his fiancé's death and a higher power. Mason wades through the treacherous waters, literally and physically to get the right outcome. Mason at his best. Take a rest Mason I am sure you will need it around the next bend in your life.
Mason Sharpe is still on his quest to find meaning in his life. He is now in Mississippi and staying at a rundown motel. His neighbors are a single mom and her disabled daughter. As a hurricane is about to hit the Gulf Coast, the girl is kidnapped and Mason is in the tail of her kidnappers. He finds himself heading straight into the eye of the hurricane. Lots of action and adventure and alls well that ends well. Highly recommend.
This is a well written book with an intense storyline. The author does a great job developing the story and pulled me in with the intrigue and kidnapping during a hurricane. He kept me glued to the pages with his descriptive scenes and delivers a terrific read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and are freely given.
I really enjoyed reading this thriller. Once I started reading Storm Surge, I had a hard time putting it down. The characters are well developed and the storyline grabbed my attention from the start. I would recommend reading this book. I love a good thriller and this one fits that.

This one had me deep in my feelings. I didn't know if I should be crying or yelling. Great story line. Loved how the author had several different things happening at the same time, yet it all worked together perfectly. This is another great series. I have read them all and this author never disappoints.
