Kenni and Finn have finally decided on a wedding date plus it’s an election year for her position as Sheriff, so Kenni has a lot on her mind. In addition to all she has on her plate she is doing her best to keep her secret that the ghost of her grandpa is one of her deputies without looking crazy. So Kenni needs to solve her two newest cases ASAP.

This is one of my favorite series by Author Tonya Kappes. The characters are interesting. Kenni is a strong female who is going to her job as Sheriff. She knows how to treat witnesses and suspects to get the information she needs. The relationship she has with the ghost of her grandpa is sweet, endearing, and sometimes complicated. The mysteries are well-written with plenty of twists and turns. Mrs. Kappes does a wonderful job weaving both of the mysteries seamlessly into Kenni’s investigation. I was completely shocked at the ending.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, I have not been influenced by anyone.

I usually claim that I don't read fantasy or sci-fi but the Kenni Lowry mysteries are actually one such series I do read. Grave As All Get-Out by Tonya Kappes is the tenth book about this sheriff in Cottonwood Kentucky. The fantasy bit is that her no longer living grand pa is helping her solve crimes. I really enjoy this series and the crazy things that happens in this small town community.

I can’t get enough of this series. Kenni is an honorable likable character who can see her ghost Papa. So heartwarming and funny with the banter. I was shocked when the killer was revealed. I was still hoping there was good left in him.

"Grave As All Get-Out" is book 10 in the "Kenni Lowry Mystery " series by Tonya Kappes. It was a great read, and I absolutely loved it. Kenni's friends tell her there is a free show with a psychic. So Kenni goes and finds her friends lied to her about it being free. She is upset that they would do that to her. While she is there, her ghost sheriff, Poppa, shows up. When he makes an appearance, that means a murder is about to happen. So much happens in this book, and it keeps you wanting more. Kenni is one of my favorite characters that Tonya writes. Her relationship with her Poppa is the best, and they are a dynamic duo when it comes to solving crimes in Cottonwood.

I was excited to get back to Cottonwood, Kentucky, to see Kenni Lowry. Her latest escapades exceeded my expectations in every way. If the nature of the investigations had not been so serious, I would have dropped my Kindle laughing at Poppa’s antics! Yet despite the crises and tragedies, Kenni was still able to see the beauty of Kentucky landscapes, and hear and appreciate the songs of the birds.

Kenni is up for re-election, and the big day is near. Tavin Tidwell is a trouble maker who doesn’t like Kenni. He is running for town council and convinced Scott, her deputy, to run for sheriff against her. Tavin has a police scanner, so he often arrived at crime scenes or accidents when she did. He livestreamed what she said or did and added his own commentary in an effort to prove to Cottonwood citizens that she shouldn’t be the sheriff.

First, he caught her with two of her best friends at a big event held by a local psychic. Seraphina was not popular in Cottonwood, being in the Bible belt, but she certainly had a huge crowd that night. Poppa, Kenni’s late grandfather who came back as a ghost that only she and her dog Duke could see or hear, finally suggested that as sheriff, she needed to know more of what was taking place in Cottonwood. Tavin was doing a live stream with his phone and telling his 9,000 viewers that the sheriff was there and asked Kenni what she would do with this heathen woman? Seraphina received a message ‘from the great beyond’ and said Kenni had a guardian spirit, her grandfather and former sheriff, who was so proud of her.

The following morning, Kenni was called to the local cemetery. Someone dug up the grave of a local man and desecrated the contents. Finn, her fiancé, former deputy, and now sheriff of nearby Clay’s Ferry, came to help out, and they began collecting evidence. Two unusual items were found inside the grave. One was a small, rusted key. The other was a special stone like the ones Seraphina used when giving readings. Tavin came to livestream her at work and told viewers she couldn’t keep the town safe. The daughter of the man whose grave was dug up was furious that it happened to her daddy. A woman was to be buried next to the open grave that day, but Kenni shut the area as a crime scene. The daughter of the woman to be buried arrived, upset that her mama’s funeral and burial were delayed.

Kenni was working on that case and had to visit the psychic for some information. Seraphina, however, was dead in her backyard, killed with one of her own gardening tools.

As always, Kenni did her very best, and as she and Poppa worked on the cases, they had to determine if the two cases were related due to evidence found in the grave. Could there be one bad guy – or gal – or two? Huge plot twists were revealed that I never would have anticipated, and there is no end of surprises! The real bad guy(s) or gal(s) shocked me completely! I had mixed feelings at the end, some sadness, some joy, yet much satisfaction at the resolution. I highly recommend this five-star cozy mystery, especially to those who enjoy well-written Southern cozy mysteries, brilliant female law enforcement, light paranormal elements, and much laughter.

From a thankful heart: I received an uncorrected ARC of this novel, and this is my honest review.

GRAVE AS ALL GET-OUT

Kenni is defending her record as Sheriff against her Deputy Scott Lee who is running against her. Tavin Tidwell, who is running for City Council & is backing Scott, is always turning up wherever Kennington is & tonight is no exception. Jolee & Katy Lee, her 2 best friends, have invited her to see a psychic medium named Seraphina Moon. Poppa has come as well & Kenni is wondering if Seraphina will "see" him. As she starts towards the front of the gathering, Tavin is there in her face with his phone broadcasting a LIVE event to one of his many social media platforms! Poppa decided to float over to Tavin & has a little fun. He began to blow softly in Tavin's ear, causing him to swat the air. Then Poppa moved to his other side & began flicking his ear. Tavin rubbed his ear & started looking around trying to figure out what was happening. Then Poppa did his best trick yet. He began tapping Tavin's nose. Tavin wrinkled his face, crossed his eyes trying to see his nose, & began swatting like there was a persistent fly. (NOTE: I could just see this & laughed my head off when I read it!)

Poppa didn't let the fake psychic off the hook either. Seraphina came out onto the porch in a flowing purple robe & asked, "If there are any spirits among us, please make yourselves known." Of course Poppa couldn't resist & went over in front of her & danced a jig. He looked like a ghostly scarecrow come to life. Kenni had to bite her lip to keep from laughing.

Seraphina turns her attention to the crowd & says, "I sense a spirit, a young male. He was taken too soon, his life cut short by a tragic event. He worked in a graveyard...." Katy Lee nodded, her eyes misting over. This was what her brother did. The words hit her hard. Then Seraphina says, "He wants you to know he is happy in the beyond. He feels your love & wants you to know he watches over you every day." Kenni knows then that Seraphina is a fake.

As Kenni is dealing with her Momma the next morning who woke her up early on her first day off in a month, she gets a call from her dispatcher, Betty, that a grave has been dug up of someone that had been buried a while... As Kenni arrived at the cemetery, the headstone had been toppled over, cracked in two. Dirt was scattered everywhere & the casket, partially unearthed, lay open. Inside, bones were strewn about haphazardly, some still in the casket, others lying on the ground! Who would do such a horrible thing? Another mystery has begun!

Can Kenni bring justice to her hometown before the whole case goes six feet under? (Amazon)

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Kenni and her friends go to see a psychic and before they leave the psychic tells Kenni that she sees a ghost attached to Kenni. Shortly afterwards the psychic is found dead and Kenni has to figure out who killed her. Kenni will need Poppa’s help to figure it out

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. Whether listening to the psychic asking Kenni about her ghostly Poppa or having Kenni working on the disturbed grave I was totally engaged in the book. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider and was not easily solved.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well rounded cozy mystery. This is one of my favorite series, I just love Kenni and Poppa.

There is never a dull moment in Cottonwood, Kentucky. Sheriff Kenni Lowry gets called to the scene of a gravesite that has been dug up. It is not a pretty sight, but it really makes no sense. There was nothing of value in the casket, but it has definitely caused an uproar. When the body of a local woman, who claims to be psychic, is found dead very soon after the grave desecration, Kenni wonders if the two cases are connected.

Kenni is trying to solve two mysteries, while also fighting to retain her title as Sheriff, since one of her deputies has decided to run against her. His buddy is besmirching her name and actions every way that he can. In other words, Kenni has her hands full. Never fear Poppa is here to help her out. The only problem is that Kenni is the only one who can see him. Poppa and his antics always make me laugh.

Kenni's overbearing mother strikes again when she takes one of Kenni's sheriff's shirts and has her monogram put on it. Kenni is livid knowing that no one will be able to take a sheriff seriously who has her initials monogrammed on her shirt. Her mother always provides some humor to the story. She gives new meaning to overbearing mother.

In true Kappes' style, she provides a good mystery, plenty of humor and lots of Southern sass with characters that I have grown to love. Kenni Lowry is a strong character who wants to be the best sheriff she can be and one who truly cares about justice. We see a little softer side of Kenni in this story, which made her even more relatable.

Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the 10th Kenni Lowry book and it is still a good series by Ms. Kappes. Kenni is the sheriff of Cottonwood, Kentucky and has to deal with the upcoming election to remain sheriff with her deputy, Scott Lee, running against her. .

A psychic (Seraphina Moon) has come to town and gathers quite a following, as well as detractors, in this small town, mainly on the religious front. What role does she play in the desecration of a grave where a stone like the ones she uses during her communing with the dead is found, along with a key? Kenni suspects she had something to do with this as she has been spotted in the graveyard.

When Seraphina is found dead, does Kenni have one crime or two now? As she tracks down suspects for both crimes, she feels the pressure of the upcoming election with Tavin Tidwell constantly hounding her.

I enjoyed this story because it was interesting reading how Kenni tracked down suspects, how she interacts with her neighbors, and the buildup to the end discovering the killer. Her mother is thrilled that Finn and Kenni have decided on a timeframe for their wedding. Even though her relationship with Poppa sometimes bugs me, he is useful to her in solving crimes. I really hope Kenni finally tells Finn about Poppa. It’s funny to read about Duke and Poppa and how Finn thinks there is something wrong with the dog.

This is an easy read and I think readers will enjoy the characters in this series. There is someone for everyone to love and/or hate.

Kenni Lowry and her Cottonwood family and friends are full of entertainment and interest as well as sass as Kenni navigates her way as lady sheriff.

And that isn’t easy anywhere, but especially in a town where she’s grown up, well, tougher to get respect, but she sure manages. It sure helps that her Poppa, a sheriff has returned as a ghost from the grave to help on murder cases, which realllly makes things interesting!

And of course with Kenni’s mom Vivian and her dad are right there in town too, full of parental brim and vigor (and harassing Kenni and fiancé deputy Finn until they finally get engaged), can’t wait to see what happens when the wedding comes around.

Of course in the midst of all this, there is a physic reading gone wild, a bad hombre going up against KennI for her sheriff job, uhhhhhhhh ohhhhhh and he is one nasty piece of work, Kenni’s deputy not supporting her and acting strangely, a grave robbing, and a murder - so it continues to be one wild series with a shocker ending.

Love Tonya Kappes and she does NOT disappoint as a writer, and adore her Camper and a criminal series, it’s phenomenal!!! Adored them! So they are a must read if you have enjoyed this series, sooooo good, truly. I have read straight through all 42 of the current books (and they got me through my knee replacement surgeries and hospital stays, thank you TK!) and was an absolutely worthwhile read!

This is the tenth in the series and can be read as a standalone. It is a quick and entertaining read.

Kenni and Finn have set the timeframe for their wedding. It’ll be in the fall after the election.
Kenni’s deputy, Scott Lee, is running against her for sheriff. Finn, her fiancé, is sheriff of Clay Ferry, the next town over.

A grave is desecrated, a psychic is murdered, and an elderly lady cannot be laid to rest per her wished due to the desecrated grave. Are any of these events related? Kenni must find out all while Tavin Tidwell is trying to discredit her to the town.

I liked this story. It had a lot less to do with her mother, and more about Kenni. Kenni is a strong woman and can deal with what is thrown at her. We see stress with close friends, pressures from bad press, and trying to deal fairly with her deputy. Kenni is pretty sure she cannot trust him not to feed information to Tavin. In turn, Tavin will use it against her in the sheriff’s campaign.

We saw Kenni vulnerable in this story. We saw how her friends and Finn supported her.
I am looking forward to seeing if Finn is ever told about Poppa and possibly Seraphina. Finn knows something is going on and he accepts there are unexplained occurrences in life.

I was given an advanced readers copy and these are my own opinions.

Kenni Lowry, the sheriff of the small town of Cottonwood certainly has enough on her plate in this 10th book of a fantastic series! With her ghost grandpa, the former sheriff that only she and her dog, Duke can see, Kenni is coerced by her friends to going to a big event held by the local psychic, Serafina. Of course, Kenni and ghost grandpa are skeptical and consider the psychic a scammer. Then she gets called to the local cemetery where a grave was desecrated and one of Serafina's stones she uses is found in the grave with another potential clue. Is Serafina involved? Why desecrate the gave and bones of the deceased. Add to this mystery and we have Kenni up for re-election and her nemesis, Tavin who has a vlog and follows Kenni around to try and prove she doesn't keep the town safe and is supporting her deputy for Sheriff. And there is more, when Serafina is found murdered and finally her fiance, the hunky sheriff from one town over, Finn, and she decided on a wedding date. With the re-election and so much more on her plate. This book has so many threads, can Kenni with the help of her ghost grandpa and Finn unravel all of them and still be re-elected? This is a page turner to reach a surprise ending. I received and ARC of this book buy the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Grave As All Get-Out is the tenth Kenni Lowry Mystery. A desecrated grave and ties to a local psychic have the citizens of Cottonwood, Kentucky all out of sorts. Being sheriff isn’t easy and Kenni learns firsthand how rough it can be when she also must deal with the upcoming election – her versus one of her very own deputies.

I enjoyed Grave As All Get-Out. I’m a fan of books with supernatural elements and having Poppa’s ghost help Kenni is a fun aspect. Having her grandfather back in her life must be exciting and wonderful, but not being able to hug him must be torture. Poppa proves to be quite the little assistant to Kenni, however, as she investigates and attempts to analyze the clues and piece everything together.

World-building and character development continues in Grave As All Get-Out. I enjoyed the characters and their involvement in this book. Mama still gets on my nerves a little, as did everyone who accused Kenni of ruining a funeral. Protocol dictates a suspicious death turns the area into a crime scene. Therefore, if your loved one is due to be buried within range, other arrangements must be made.

Enjoyable and interesting, this cozy mystery pulled me in and kept me. The mystery was intricate and wonderfully woven through the pages. The ending has me sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next book.

Grave As All Get-Out is another exciting installment in Kappes' Kenni Lowry mystery series. I always enjoy new books in this series, and this latest definitely doesn't disappoint. The new local psychic finds herself at the center of a debate in Cottonwood. Some citizens are believers, and others are most definitely not. Throw in a disturbed grave, an upcoming sheriff's election, and even a murder, and Kenni finds herself with her hands full. She needs to get to the bottom of things and fast.

Kappes' sets up a compelling mystery full of twists and turns grabbing the reader's attention from the very beginning of the book and never letting go. I always really enjoy when I am truly surprised, and this book definitely does that. Kenni has a lot on her plate, but I liked seeing how she handled everything and think that she has really grown as a character as this series has progressed. I also really loved seeing all of my favorite secondary characters back since I feel they add so much to the story. Overall Grave As All Get-Out proved to be a great read that I would most definitely recommend. I look forward to reading Kenni's next adventure.

Grave as All Get-Out is the tenth cozy mystery in the Kenni Lowry series. Kenni Lowry is the sheriff in Cottonwood, Kentucky and things are going smoothly until another murder takes place. This time the victim is a psychic who was causing a stir in Cottonwood. Kenni is under more scrutiny than usual as sheriff because it’s an election year and she’s got competition. Her Deputy, Scott Lee, is running against her. One wrong move and it may be her last as sheriff.

I am a fan of all Tonya Kappes mysteries and this series never fails to pull me in. I’ve been hooked since the first book I read and I love Kenni and her ghost Grandpa and think they really drive this series. I was hooked on this mystery from the very beginning and couldn’t wait to see how this it played out. The mystery was great and kept me guessing until the very end. I also loved the side story and seeing Kenni outside of the sheriffs office. If you love cozy mysteries as much as I do this is a series you need to check out! It has everything you could ask for in a cozy, fun characters, intriguing mysteries and ghosts!

I loved this book. If you are a cozy fan and love just a touch of paranormal, you will be sucked in immediately. This is the series that got me started on Tonya Kappes and I haven't looked back. Kenni Lowry is the Sheriff of a small town and with guidance from Poppa (her deceased grampa) goes no-holds-barred to solve the murders that occasionally plague her little town. A touch of light romance is present with her copper colleague Finn and together, all of them make a great team that sensibly seems to come to the right conclusions. Twists and turns keep you turning the pages and just when you think you've figured it out, another surprise is tossed your way. Other quirky characters embroiled in the story make this a delightful, fun read, suitable for any mystery lover. I recommend this book and looking forward to the next one! BTW, Can totally be read as a stand-alone, but if you haven't read the others, going back to do so will give you a bit of back story.

This one was funnier , i loved to see Poppa playing trick on Kenni's opponant and on the self proclamed medium.
That being said it's always well written Kenni 's position as a sheriff is contested and her opposant is playing dirty trying to promote her deputy; Scott, over her...making the betrayal hurt even more. However no matter her personnal situation, Kenni love her city and is determined to protect its inhabitants, no matter their vote. When a grave is disturbed, Kenni is determined to find the culprit not expecting a murder to happen soon after. 2linked cases or two separate ones that remains to be seen but she can't do it all alone so beside human staff she ome to rely on Poppa ghost and...a new enthousiastic one.....Keeping her secret is not easy but she won't give up

Really i love how Kenni can be determined even when her personnal life ( job, friend) get complicated and must hurt so much....She is lucky to have Finn by her side even if they don't work together.

a series better read in order even if it works as stand alone, it's much better in read in order to understand the characters better and it's worth not to be missed

This is the 10th book in this series; I’ve read and loved all the previous books, but this book could stand alone. I do think the book would be best appreciated if one has read some previous books in the series, though. It’s such a unique series, with Kenny being the sheriff of a small town in Kentucky, but receiving help from the ghost of her grandpa, the former sheriff. And in this book, there’s a definite surprise regarding that power. When a grave is disturbed and bones exposed, Kenny is making progress in solving that crime when there’s a murder that needs to be solved on top of that. The mystery is good, but what I always enjoy is the southern setting “with all the fixins’” and especially the authenticity of the southern dialogue. I can heartily recommend this book and series; I was provided an arc, which I appreciate, but these opinions are my own.

I’ve listened to all of these. My favorite is the first couple. Then less so some after that. This one wow.

It is fabulous. It really pulls together all the people from the previous books, a few new town folks, and picks up from the end of the last book with respect to her growing relationship with Finn — but this time, the mystery goes far deeper than previous ones. It’s emotional and heartfelt.

The narrator, as always, brings this small town alive. I especially love the way the narrator has Kenni say “Poppa” and Poppa say “Kennibug”. It embodies the closeness of their long standing relationship.

Will there be a wedding mystery book? I sure hope so. The author has danced around whether, if, how Kenni would tell Finn about seeing ghosts. And based on this book. That plot line may be next. I hope so.

I was delighted to return to Cottonwood where Kenni Lowery is Sheriff and her deceased grandfather “Poppa” is her ghostly deputy. He tends to appear to her when a crime occurs. In this story there are several crimes for Kenni and Poppa to solve. One includes the death of a psychic who was not accepted by many in Cottonwood. The other involved the desecration of a grave. The resolution of those crimes was quite surprising.

Kenni, Poppa, Finn, her fiancé, along with her mother and friends are such fascinating and engaging characters. I definitely look forward to reading more about them and their relationships in hopefully forthcoming books in this enjoyable book series.

I was fortunate to receive an advanced copy.

This is the tenth book in the Kenni Lowry cozy mystery series. It's a great series that includes southern ways, a great little town, great people and of course a murder and a deputy ghost. Things really start getting strange in Cottonwood. Someone dug up a grave and then a psychic who communes with the dead ends up murdered. Can Sheriff Kenni Lowry crack the cases and still retain the townpeople’s vote? Tavin Tidwell is still trying to keep her from being reelected. Can she do it? You’ll definitely chuckle at times, while you join Sheriff Lowry in trying to figure it out right up to the little twist at the end. Tonya Kappes does a great job weaving the plot together. And this time there just might be another ghost helping her out. Love it! Looking forward to the next one.

When a cemetery caretaker finds a disturbed open casket, he calls Sheriff Kenni Lowry. What she finds is a total disrespect for the remains of the person who had been buried in the now disturbed gravesite. I love this series with Kenni Lowry a sheriff who only wants what is best for her community. With her deputy now running against her and a disreputable man determined to verbally sling mud at Kenni, her only option is to keep her head down, listen to her ghost partner grandfather and fiancé Finn and just do her job. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.

Kenni Lowery is the first female Sheriff of Cottonwood, taking the reins after the death of her grandfather Poppi. Election time is coming up and she is running against her deputy. Rumors are spreading that she can't keep Cottonwood safe especially with the murder of a professed psychic and the discovery of a grave that had been dug up. With the help of her fiancee, her faithful dog Duke and the ghost of her grandfather, can she get to the bottom of these recent crimes and restore the town's faith in her abilities as Sheriff? Plenty of twists and turns as well as a fair share of laughs will keep you from putting this one down! I can't wait for more to come!

When you think you know your enemies, you find you're in for a rude awakening. Sheriff Kenni is called in for what looks to be a grave robbery but it's weird when you find more things in the grave than what should be and the resident psychic standing a ways over, watching. And when the so called psychic is found murdered not 24 hours later, there's a serious problem. All this and Sheriff Kenni is being watched by all eyes in Cottonwood being as it's soon to be election time and there are a few people who are adamant that she won't be the new sheriff but her biggest enemy isn't who she thought. Great read!!

It was great to be back in Cottonwood, Kentucky with Sheriff Kenni Lowry. It is an election year and things are heating up for Kenni to be re-elected Sheriff. Also, Kenni and Finn are getting married and have finally set a wedding date. All things that are going to be keeping Kenni busy, but when a grave is disturbed and a woman is found dead, Kenni has to keep her focus on solving these crimes and keeping the citizens of Cottonwood safe. This story was full of surprises.
