The Fake Wedding Project

Rate this book
Romeo and Juliet meets Hallmark Christmas movie in this steamy romp about star-crossed nonlovers caught up in a fake romance that could change everything they know in a real big way.

Faking an engagement to my secret high school crush was not on my to-do list when I landed for a short visit home. But when Amanda Anderson announces that she’s my fiancée, I take a leap and play along with the farce.

Why? Because the Capulets and Montagues have nothing on the Andersons and Silvers of Tinsel, Michigan. In the name of bringing peace to our Christmas-themed hometown and ourselves, we’ll play the part of Romeo and Juliet.

If our relatives think we’re in love, they’ll have to end this ridiculous feud. Right? Amanda’s a professional dog walker, and I’m an engineer who loves dogs―how hard could it be to show our families what else we all have in common?

The heat and this town’s infernal holiday cheer are messing with my head, though. And once we start making our fake wedding plans, I can’t seem to keep my heart out of it.

A fake engagement to join 2 feuding families in a Christmas themed town. The mystery is that no one really knows why they are feuding as the feud has been passed down for many generations.

This book is Christmas themed, but takes place in summertime. It would be a great Christmas in July Hallmark movie. It was very cute. Fast paced writing style.

There were some spicy scenes. I enjoyed watching them fall for each other. There’s not really a 3rd act breakup considering they were never truly together, but they do find their way in the end.

Chili, the lazy dog, was one of my favorite parts too. I have a lazy dog just like Chili so this really reminded me of him. He also got his own epilogue from his point of view, which was such a cute way to end the story.

Thank you to netgalley for this free advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was so promising. But then it pissed me off. Why are the 'older' adults acting like children? why does no one care about the happiness and achievements of their family members? why are they stupid? like, pick one thing! I don't need perfect characters but I need to like at least some of them! And then it dragged as well :(

Ok first, I’m obsessed with Christmas. You are giving me a book about a town called Tinsel that does Christmas all year long. Yes, please!

There is a long standing family feud between the fruit cake company and the gingerbread bakery. I mean how adorable is that?! What is the younger generation to do when they are sick and tired of this ridiculous family fighting? A fake engagement, of course. You know what happens when they do this right? They fall for each other.

The whole story is adorable and I am here for it! Such a fun listen. And then the epilogue was hilarious. I highly recommend listening to or reading this book. Super lighthearted and just what you need sometimes.

This review was originally posted on Books of My Heart

Review copy was received from . This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

The Fake Wedding Project is a completely cute, forced proximity and fake relationship trope book.  The added bonus is that Amanda and Dane of the afore mentioned fake relationship are from warring families in the little town of Tinsel that looks like it is celebrating Christmas all year round.  When Amanda accidently work vomits, she and Dane are engaged in a bid to get out of the family business the gingerbread hits the fan.

Dane and Amanda are so adorable.  Both are extremely likable and each has a bone to pick with their families over the feud that has lasted generations in the little town of Tinsel.  Amanda had to hid her friendship with Dane's sister while growing up and Dane felt every accomplishment in his life was just a boasting point for his family to use against Amanda's.  Dane is ready to pretend to be engaged in the hopes they can get enough family members on their side to put this feud to rest once and for all.  Maybe they will even discover how the feud started when some copies of old letters start showing up at their door.

With enough fruitcake and gingerbread, you can finally fix everything I suppose.  This was a really cute story as the town tries to throw together a quick wedding for the couple they think will end the feud of the century, well at least in this sleepy little town.  They might live on different coasts and have incredibly different kinds of jobs, but the girl Dane crushed on so hard in high school just might be the woman he could spend his life with, at least he could if he can convince her that what they are faking just might be real.

The Fake Wedding Project is one of those kinds of books I like reading in between something heavy or long.  It is fun, fast, a little bit steamy and a great reset.  I even loved that sometimes in the end the girl needs to take the lead.

 Narration:
Both Connor Crais and CJ Bloom have huge catalogs of work, each with over 300 titles narrated.  With that you know that the experience is going to be polished and have the finesse of truly seasoned professionals.  Each did really well with their PoV and made the characters so much fun.  Even Chili the dog was given a great personality that shone through during narration.  I was able to listen at my usual 1.5x speed.

This was such a fun, feel-good romance and exactly what I needed. I am OBSESSED with the fake dating trope; there's just something about characters not knowing what is real and fake and being confused about their growing feelings that tears at my heartstrings.

In this book, the main couple pretends to be engaged and prepares a wedding as a way of fixing a decades-long feud between their two families. And it takes place in a lovely town that celebrates Christmas all year.

I loved the background of the family feud and how ridiculous all of the family members were. I couldn't stop laughing at their antics. I also loved the main couple's dynamic and how supportive they were with each other. I had an amazing time listening to the audiobook (the narrators were incredible) and it gently prepared me for the holiday season.

Read this if you like:

I have been reading a lot of holiday romances and I'm not complaining. I'm thoroughly enjoying them and this is one of them too. I absolutely loved it.
Both Dane and Amanda are likeable and it was so sweet to watch them fall in love with each other. Their chemistry grows throughout the book and the moments, built-up tension, are well written.
This was a cutesy light read and will make your heart flutter. I was giggling from the start and it was really amazing. The plot is quite predictable but amazing.
And there is cutie lazy dog chili who'll steal your heart as well(his pov is the highlight of this book).
Loved the narration as well.
Thank you, NetGalley, Hambright pr and Pippa grant for the ALC.

The book grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go until you've laughed, cried, and fist-pumped your way through every page.

The protagonists are like a match made in romantic comedy heaven. They spar with the kind of sizzle and spark that makes you want to pull up a chair and watch the fireworks. The fake wedding scheme is as outlandish as it is delightful, and Grant nails the execution with flair. You’ll find yourself rooting for these two knuckleheads to figure out what everyone else can see a mile away.

Sure, the plot might dance a bit too close to predictability now and then, but who cares when the ride is this fun? The supporting cast of characters is a riot, adding layers of humor and heart to an already vibrant story.

Grant's writing style is sharp, sassy, and completely addictive. She knows how to tug at your heartstrings and tickle your funny bone, often at the same time. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and their journey from fake romance to real love is equal parts touching and laugh-out-loud funny.

In short, "The Fake Wedding Project" is a delightful romp through a world of romance and hilarity. If you need a break from reality and a good chuckle, this book will do the trick.

Pippa Grant knocked it out of the park again!
This was such a fun book, as usual.
Grant writes characters you are excited to spend time with, even the animals are well fleshed out!
Chili's bonus chapter was the absolute cutest!
Read this if you like fake dating, slow burns, secret crushes, Hatfield–McCoy vibes, giggling, baked goods and Christmas bits.
I was switching between the ebook and the audio and book so delightful I would not recommend one over the other.

I really enjoyed this small town, fake engagement romance! The family feud in Tinsel has caused the younger generation to have problems! Dane and Amanda pretend to be engaged to stop the feud. Through their charade, they fall in love and learn the truth of the feud!

I loved all of the antics of the grandparents and the lazy pup, chili!

I usually like Pippa Grant novels. They usually have a good mixture of story, spice, and humor. This one was not the case for me. This book is about two rivaling families. The FMC and MMC fake a relationship to get the rivals to end. This is also a holiday romance, so it has hints of holiday themes in there. I didn't really have any sense of a true connection between the two main characters. This story became more about the families and the rivalry. I wasn't invested or rooting for them. The usual humor and spice was also not really present. The last chapter was just weird. There was minimal spice. Two scenes that end quickly. Overall, I just feel like the execution wasn't there for me with this one.

The Fake Wedding Project by Pippa Grant combines some of my favorite tropes with the author's witty and entertaining writing! It was full of hilarious accidents and laugh out loud moments. The dreamy small town with the quirky people made me fall in love. It was swoony. It was heartwarming. It was slow burn but deliciously spicy.Amanda and Dane got themselves into a mess by impulsively getting fake engaged to end their long family feud in their home town where its forever Christmas. This whole adventure brings them impossibly closer and they realised even when this charade ends, their love will just begin!

The Andersons and the Silvers both have some really colorful family members who goes to extremes to keep up the family drama. Dane had a crush on Amanda in high school and it's hard for him to keep his attraction away, while Amanda never thought she will fall for Dane.

Tinsel can only exist in a book. Where Christmas stays whole year. The author described it so beautifully that I cannot help but wish this cute and adorable place was real. Amanda and Dane both live away . Amanda doesn't want to inherit their family gingerbread store and Dane doesn't want the family feud to keep on souring his every interaction to his family. That's where the fake engagement came in. But it snowballs to the wedding of the century for the town. Amanda is beautiful and creative and compassionate and she hates lying to family. But this is for greater good. And she couldn't want a better partner than Dane. The shy nerd boy from school is quiet a charming guy now. I loved how calm and steadfast he was in every situation. While Amanda was panicking, he was picking up the pieces and assuring her and supporting her through the plan. She also showed her fire and sass by standing up for him in front of his family who couldn't appreciate his accomplishment without bringing up the rivalry. Their friendship was easy and fast and beautiful. They managed to end something that was weighing down on their lovely hometown for a long time. And in the way...They found love. It was a bit confusing because they had to figure out that their feelings are real and not part of the fake marriage. I loved the whole vibe of the story. The feel good romance did something awesome for my soul. If reading is an escape, Tinsel is a perfect place to do so!

What a fun story!

Set in my home state if Michigan. Then it's a kind of twist on Romeo and Juliet, where this couple wants to be together despite the long feud between their families. Apparently though, no one knows why the families had this rift!
Add in a fake relationship and I am loving this crazy but fun story!

The characters are wonderful. I liked everyone immediately from the start. It's really hard for me to get into a story if I don't at least like the main characters but when I love them, the story is so much better to me.

A great and enjoyable read ❤️ def got me in the mood for the holidays🎄😁

Hallmark like with a good dose of spice 🌶️🥵

modern day Romeo and Juliet inspired Hallmark like story with HEA.

One family makes fruit cakes and one family makes gingerbread cookies and the elders of the fam absolutely HATE each other. The adult children of these families dont understand why the feud began and their parents could never explain it.

MFC is a dog walker living in CA but comes home for a visit. Her grandma and mother want her to take over the fam biz (but she really doesn't want to).

MMC also back home for a visit, son of the MFC's 'enemy' family.

MFC and MMC decide to be fake fiances to help bring these two opposing families together and also uncover the reason for the long time family feud.

loved this story and it really got me in the christmas spirit, but also a great read year round

This is such a fun book to read for holiday season. Hallmark vibes for sure. You got feuding families, a Christmas town called Tinsel, best friend’s older brother, a fake engagement and wedding to plan in ONE WEEK, and a cabin with one bed. 😍

It’s easy and quick read. Full of fun family antics. Theres a little spice and the MMC is all green flags! There’s also an adorable dog who gets his own little bonus epilogue at the end which was super duper cute!

Absolutely recommend if you like Pippa Grant books and a fun holiday read 💚❤️💚

I loved this book! This story takes place in a Christmas themed town in Michigan, which was fun since that’s where I’m from. There are two feuding families and Amanda and Dane convince everyone they are engaged in order to bring the families together and attempt to resolve the feud once and for all.

I really enjoyed how Dane and Amanda’s relationship developed as they spent time together. It was nice how they both really wanted everyone to get along and put the fighting between their families behind them.

I liked how there was a little bit of a mystery surrounding why the families were fighting to begin with and how they were working to figure out how it started.

A fake engagement between two families at war, in a small town. Will Dane and Amanda succeed in joining the two families and brin peace to their little town of Tinsel?

The plot was a bit predictable, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless.

Special mention to Chili, the best, laziest dog out there.

This is such a fun holiday-ish romp by Pippa Grant. A hallmark version of Romeo and Juliet, minus the tragedy, with crazy family members, lots of laughs, a Christmas themed town named Tinsel, and a lazy dog named Chili. In true Pippa fashion she delivered with her outrageous and quirky sense of humor that always makes me laugh. I had so much fun reading this fake engagement romcom!

Title: The Fake Wedding Project
Author: Pippa Grant
Expected Publication: October 2024

Genre: Romance
Read📕:Kindle (NetGalley)

Rating🌟: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice🥵:🌶️
Tropes: fake relationship, family feud
Language: mild language

The description of this book starts with Romeo and Juliet meets Hallmark Christmas movie. And boy did it live up to that I felt like I was reading a hallmark movie that’s Christmas and July. The sweet little town of tinsel and the feud between the two families is such a fun idea!

It starts off by a fake engagement with Amanda and Dane whose families are true rivals and no one knows why. So Amanda and Dane come up with a plan to say they’ve been together and they are getting married next month and both families shut them down and say no we’re getting you guys married here in Tinsel next week so they have a week to convince families that they are madly in love and that they need to end this feud.

Amanda loves New York. She’s a professional dog walker and has a love for the arts and Dane is an engineer who loves his dog and they share a love for eggnoglatte.

Throughout the story, it’s so sweet to watch them slowly fall in love with each other. Knowing Amanda and Dane, are going in knowing that they were just going to be friends and she had no amount of her that ever wanted a boyfriend or to get married and throughout the story, Dane has changed that for her.

Dane’s sister is Amanda’s best friend so he goes through with the engagement for her sake and throughout the story the families just blend together.

I also very much love chili. He is a very lazy dog that just so sweet and so cute and he has his own epilogue from his point of view, and it was just very very cute to add in his point of view and his thoughts.

The story was cute enough and had some holiday pizzazz, but the family rival aspect was more annoying than funny. I didn't care for either main character, either, but maybe that was more because of the narrators on the audiobook (I don't normally use audiobooks, but out of curiosity thought I'd give it a try), so I switched to reading on the page, but it didn't really help. I didn't care about the characters. Kinda sad about this, because normally I'm a Pippa Grant stan, but not every book can be everyone's cuppa.

✨ALC Review✨

I absolutely loved this book. And as much as I loved it, that bonus epilogue alone made the entire book for me!

From start to finish, I couldn't stop giggling. I absolutely loved the humor in this.

I've read many holiday/Christmas themed books but this might just be my new favorite one. Because not only was it not overly cheesy but it was well written and was really so cute.

This is marketed as Romeo & Juliet meets Hallmark Christmas movie and it honestly couldn't be more accurate. Truly, I ate this up. And shoutout to the narrators for doing such an amazing job. Especially Connor Crais playing Dane. I could listen to that man's voice for a hot minute. Anyways...

Two families are in a centuries long feud. Why? No one knows but they make sure to stay in their lanes. Amanda and Dane are frankly quite sick of this feud; especially since Amanda and Lorelai, Dane's sister, have been secret best friends for years. When Amanda comes home to visit and hears she will be inheriting the family shop she doesn't want, she lies and tells everyone she's engaged to enemy number one - Dane Silver.

Is this a predictable plot? Yes. But was it still absolutely entertaining and so much fun to see unfold? Absolutely!

Amanda is honestly such a cute and relatable character. She had dreams of being an actor but instead is a New York dog walker. She want to make her family happy but she's tired of the drama. She's tired of hiding her friendship and she wants everyone to move on. I just really loved her personality. Seeing her start to open up to possibilities with Dane was fun and I loved seeing her character development.

Dane is a dream. He's had a crush on Amanda since high school and didn't hesitate to jump on board when she announces they're engaged. It was cute honestly. I really loved getting to see his dreams come true here. He's hilarious too and I was kind of swooning for him.

Watching these two...or really listening to these two form a friendship and start to develop feelings was amazing. I was really rooting for them. They had such cute moments and some awkward, funny moments. I loved them pretending but I loved it even more when they weren't. I really loved their chemistry and thought they made such a perfect pairing. These two just made sense in being together. And we even get some great spice!!

The real star of the show is Chili, Dane's doggo. What a little lazy mush but so damn cute. The fact...THE FACT we get a POV from him was everything I could want and more. I've never laughed so hard during a bonus epilogue...I don't think I've ever loved a bonus epilogue as much.

We get answers to the feud and we get family drama...a lot of family drama. Was it absolutely ridiculous? For sure! Cheesy as it may be, it was enjoyable. I was entertained though!!

If you couldn't tell, I loved this. I was entertained. I laughed, I blushed, and I found myself really picturing this as a Hallmark movie. I couldn't stop listening to it as it was such a smooth and easy listen. Definitely going to need a physical copy for my trophy shelf!!

If you love anything Hallmark, a cute dog, families who feud with other families...you will love this!

Thank you so much for Hambright PR & Pippa Grant, & NetGalley for the ALC copy!

I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ARC provided by Hambrigh PR, Brilliance Publishing, and Montlake.

Faking an engagement to my secret high school crush was not on my to-do list when I landed for a short visit home. But when Amanda Anderson announces that she is my fiancée, I take a leap and play along with the farce.

Why? Because the Capulets and Montagues have nothing on the Andersons and Silvers of Tinsel, Michigan. In the name of bringing peace to our Christmas-themed hometown and ourselves, we will play the part of Romeo and Juliet.

The heat and this town’s infernal holiday cheer are messing with my head, though. And once we start making our fake wedding plans, I can not seem to keep my heart out of it.

This was the perfect cheesy Hallmark book and was literally a hallmark movie in book form. It was a Christmas themed book but took place in the summer? But Tinsel is a town where it is always Christmas, which made this feel like a Christmas in July type of book. The romance was cute but wrapped up way too quickly for my liking. I wanted to get to know more about Dane and Amanda. The book did seem to just center more around the feud than the couple. And this book and everything in it does take place during one week which does makes things feel rushed. I wished we got to know more of why Dane and Amanda's families have been in a feud for decades. It was one of those feel good books, which was the perfect palette cleanser in between heavy books. I would recommend reading this one if you are a Hallmark movie fan and anyone who likes small towns, feuding families, and fake engagements.

PIPPA GRANT STRIKES AGAIN! I don’t know what I was thinking back in the day when I said I didn’t like her brand of humor becauseshe is glorious!

I loved this story when I read it waaaaaaaay back in the summer (like July) and could not wait for it to release so I could get my hands on the audiobook because … Connor Crais & CJ Bloom!! *heart eyes* and they did not disappoint! But I didn’t have to wait because Hambright PR came to the rescue with an ALC! YAY :)

You can’t not fall in love with a story based in a Christmas town taking place in the middle of the summer! High-jinks and shenanigans abound! Throw in a family feud dating back decades and a fake romance/marriage that is the key to uniting the families and I mean what could possibly go wrong?

Bwaaahahahahahahaha

This story is just as outrageous as you would think, and it is perfection! The romance journey was just so easy that you just can’t help but fall into the story. Any conflict in the storyline was never between our main characters and I appreciated that so much! I mean there wasn’t even a third-act conflict … technically! LOL And the epilogue in Chili’s POV was sooooo much fun!
