A quick bodice ripper! I’ll be honest this was a struggle on stars because cute and steamy but I still don’t get the first part about the letters…… it ended up good but I would’ve wanted more on that!
Genre: Historical Romance Type: Standalone Novella book 1 of The Lady's Guide to Love POV: Third Person Rating:
Estela Bongorge had always taken life by the horns. On board a cruise ship bound for home, she met the dashing Lord Theodore Rockley, who presented her with an enormous problem. Ever the fearless adventurer, she accepted the challenge, unaware that it might put her wild heart at risk.
Estela was certainly not your typical Lady. I loved how she lived by her own rules, no matter what society dictated. Theodore was quite sweet in his predicament, yet knew how to handle himself where it mattered. The storyline was quite amusing and entertaining, especially with the addition of the side characters.
The Lady's Guide to Well-Endowed Dukes is a story of adventure and creative thinking. It would appeal to readers who enjoy a short, light-hearted historical romance.

The first half of this I liked quite a bit, but the back half faltered. The prose is relatively clean, if over-embellished and sometimes stiff as a result. Estela is a very vibrant, interesting character, and I loved the approach to her sexual needs and experience, which is very open and matter-of-fact. Theo never quite cohered for me, and I felt like the turn from the part I enjoyed to the part that bugged me more rested on under-motivation of Theo’s decision to sleep with Estela. In the key scenes we don’t get his POV at all, and so the 180 he does from “I cannot betray my future bride” to “fuck it, let’s bang” didn’t feel natural. He served more as whatever the narrative needed him to be than as a complete and cohesive character.
I did appreciate the realistic depiction of the consequences of a romance hero having a gigantic dick and I think it’s a fun concept. At the same time, so much of the story was spent on plot and set-up that there wasn’t a lot of on-page exploration of the leads’ intimacy. I feel like if you choose to write a romance novella with a deliberately porny premise there should be a little more porn involved, and you probably shouldn’t gloss like half of the time they spend connecting deeply enough to later proclaim their love. Also, this is a me thing, but god I hate that . The emphasis on really convinced me that I was going to get the rare HR and then instead … well. Honestly I considered docking another star for it, but that felt a little mean. It’s fine.
For book 1 of this new series, I read through it quickly. It held my interest throughout. The main characters were larger than life, and the book encompasses them to the max. Other characters were minor players. I liked the book and recommend.
Yes, I've read them all and enjoyed them thoroughly.
I have to be honest, the eventual sex scene, was probably the most descriptive of the whole series.
I don't know why so many authors do this, just because some one else does it, doesn't make it right. The incorrect use of honorifics. A Duke is not a Lord and should NEVER EVER be addressed as one. His Grace Theodore Rockley, Eleventh Duke of Pembridge. He can also be addressed as Duke.
A Duke is the highest rank below Royalty and yes, amongst the Royal Family there are dukes.
So much research is done to get historical facts correct, why can't honorifics be the same. It's as though you don't respect the intelligence of you readership.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to book 8. The series heroines are funny, adventurous, intelligent and not at all annoyingly girlie. They're fabulous!
An independent woman with her own means, Estela Bongorge lives to the fullest and is always ready for a challenge. Upon meeting Lord Theodore Rockley, Estela receives an intriguing proposal that potentially offers enormous pleasure.
“Furthermore, there was no way upon Earth she was going to pass up the chance to take a look at this supposed leviathan of a member.”
From the beginning, Estela captivated me with her confidence. The banter between Estela and Theo was thoroughly entertaining with a serving of mounting sexual tension. Additionally, there were comedic scenes that really added to Theo’s predicament.
The Lady's Guide to Well-Endowed Dukes is a historical romance full of romance, comedy and sweet moments. This book would appeal to those seeking a quick read with a packed plot.
Caution: do not listen to this novella in public. Seriously, you will be sighing and squirming and melting. The book is so hot and such a fun romp. This is not your usual regency novel either. Estella is a very experienced widow who volunteers to help Theo, the Duke with a delicate problem. He is too well-endowed and afraid to wed. What a problem and Estella is on board with the assignment. The story is very steamy and sexual but also sweet and romantic. Gareth Davies does a great job of narrating the Audible version (I read the digital book too, it is that god).and makes it sound like a period piece. The whole "Lady's Guide series has a subplot of different ladies adding parts to the manual for new housewives and Estella is adding the bedroom arts portion. You will truly love this book and the main characters. There is a hilarious and spicy pair of Scottish spinsters too.
I am enjoying these historical romance books written by Emmanuelle de Maupassant. They make for a good deviation from my normal reads/listens. They have steamy storylines with good characters. Lord Rockley and Estela both captured my heart. At times I became frustrated with them. We had a reverse no means no, situation where usually it's the guy not listening. Ugh. But when I set that aside, I was completely invested in their story.
Gareth J Davies is an excellent narrator. He has grown on me more and more with each book I've listened to from this series. He's perfect for the atmosphere and feel of these books. His "voice" for Estela was a bit too low though. It took a bit of time to get use to it as the female character speaking. Otherwise, another perfect performance!
This story was full of intrigue. The FMC was not the usual shrinking violet - Stella knew how to handle herself around men as she had been married four times. Theo was completing his mission for the government when he meets Stella on a ship on the way back to England. He charms Stella and her godmothers and asks Stella to help him with a rather big personal issue. He never discusses with Stella what his mission was, and she discovers it by accident. She misunderstands the purpose of why he was on the same ship as her and runs from him, but eventually she learns the truth. By the time they meet again in England, Stella has a surprise for Theo! The narration for the audiobook was very good. I switched between the audiobook and the eBook and enjoyed both methods of reading.
I absolutely loved this book! The characters are vibrant and exceptionally well-developed. It is an engaging read that I couldn't put down. The two Godmothers were an incredible surprise; they challenged the norms of their time with their forward-thinking ideas, despite being spinsters. These spinster aunts are unforgettable, especially with their hilarious explanations of male anatomy. The romance between the two main characters takes center stage, overshadowing the plot itself. While that may sound unusual, you will understand once you read it. This is a feel-good read that I highly recommend if you're seeking something light without being overly fluffy. The ending is nothing short of perfect.
This was definitely a steamy story. I enjoyed Estela's straightforwardness, love for sexual congress, and her enjoyment of life. She was willing to go after what she wanted, but she thought that she would not have Theodore, especially as she got to know him before they were intimate. Theodore was doing what he thought was the right thing, being loyal to his late brother, so he went looking for some instruction. He was so strong, yet shy. Their encounters and instructions were very illuminating and hot.
I enjoyed the narration by Gareth J. Davies as he brought all the scenes to life, steamy and otherwise.
Audiobook: This seventh book in "The Lady's Guide to Love" series was entertaining. Estela Bongorge was edgy and a little bit scandalous. Lord Theodore Rockley was a proper English lord. When the two first met, there was instant attraction, but both had obligations that stood in their paths to love. I enjoyed the characters. I liked the twists in their romantic entanglement. There were some steamy descriptions. Gareth J Davies' narration was charming, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
Emmanuel De Maupassant writes thee Most Delighful and Spicy Books !! With " Ladies Guide to Well Endowed Dukes " You have Non Stop Fun, Intrigue and of Course Romance!! Estelle and Theo are two very Strong and Independent characters who have the most delicious intimate verbal duels !! These two finally come together in a most unusual manner ! Another Huge Plus for the book is the narrator , Gareth J Davies, who in my opinion is One of The Best Narrators an Author could ask for ! He can Handle Any Character and in Any Literary genre !!
It started out slow but picked up eventually. The Duke was unpredictable and I loved Stella's character. She's a no-nonsense 4x-widowed woman who knows what she wants.
I like how unpretentious she is and the mystery was already solved at the beginning. There was a feel of espionage and I can only imagine what they looked like.
Both of them were vulnerable with each other and their feelings developed the more they spent time with each other in and out of the bedroom.
The only spoiler I can share is that it's a guaranteed HEA.
pros: lesbians, fmc is kinda hot, it was short, i had a good time showing my friends all the lines that made me feel heterophobic
cons: lesbians were a cheap solution to a stupid conflict, i hate the duke’s dick, writing was mid, a lot of lines that made me feel heterophobic, terrible trope at the end that ruins everything
i read this after finishing one of my favourite series’ of all time, so unfortunately there was no hope for me truly enjoying this book. it did what a palate cleanser had to do and will now be forgotten forever.
I like a full story with good character development, emotional, titillating, and intelligent writing.
The foreplay and bedsport were explicit and sensual 🌶🌶🌶 without being slutty. Estella is a liberal woman who enjoys her sexuality. Theo is an honorable man. He is forthright with his communication and a scorching hot 🔥 lover. I recommend this passionate novella!
A sexy duke with a problem, or two. A sultry widow willing to help him with at least one of them. Surprising worldly godmothers to give advice. This delightful story takes place on a Mediterranean cruise. There is lots of fun and several scenes that are laugh-out-loud funny. I liked Theo and Estela. The godmothers were wonderful. A steamy romance that ends as it should, all brought to life by the splendid talents of Gareth J. Davies. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this audiobook.
It was a pleasure listening to this audiobook. Like all of Emmanuelle's other stories, there’s humor, romance and a bit of suspense. And a very happy ending for all the characters. I loved it and couldn't stop listening. Narrator Gareth J Davies, along with the sound effects and a fun storyline, made this a recommended audiobook.
I Love this series. This book is fun, adventurous, and has Loved. Standalone with No Cliffhangers. She is an adventurous widower out having fun. He is an honorable man ready to marry a woman he doesn't love. Then they meet each other. The drama well make you laugh and make you blush. I Love the extras in this book, the music and nature sounds were a nice touch. I listened to this on Audible
I originally read this in the anthology "I Like Big Dukes" and it was even better to listen to the audio. I am sure anyone watching me listening to this book good see me blush, several times. This was a good story, a quick read that made me laugh, feel sorry for both leads and cheer for their happy ending.
Ending seemed abrupt, but I’m glad things worked out in the end for all involved.
I also forgot why the mysterious letters that prompted their first meeting was of such national importance … but - as Rockley told Estela at the end - it was not as much of a concern at that point, as clarifying their own situation was.
The description of this book is supposed to be about Lady Cecile McCauley but it was not. The story in this book is about Estela. So, I'm wondering who got the book description wrong, the author or Amazon; and what is the name of Lady Cecile McCauley's book or if there is one.
Loved that the FMC was open about her sexual needs in 1905 and was a well travelled daring woman. But I thought with all the specific references to how good she was at avoiding pregnancy etc she would remain childfree. A real disappointment and missed opportunity to utilise a unusual heroine to showcase a different ending.
Emmanuelle de Maupassant, you have once again knocked it out of the park with this one!! In my mind’s eye I could see every detail from the beginning to the very end. A delightful and moving reading experience.
Se você ama heroínas que se recusam a seguir as regras, cenários bem descritos, heróis tão fortes quanto seus dilemas, e uma camada de mistério envolvendo tudo, esse livro é para você. Divertimento garantido.
I thoroughly enjoyed Theo & Estela story they where perfect for each other. I loved this steamy historical fun little ramp it was delightful and witty This has everything i need in a story.
This is a fun, quite light-hearted book. Estela, who had been married a few times before was now a wealthy widow. She was very determined and didn’t hold back when she wanted something or someone! Theo, Duke of Pembridge, had a problem that Estela is more than willing to help with. This is a steamy read but it will make you smile. I loved the two elderly Scottish ladies, who were very fond of Estela. It does have a happy ending. The narrator, Gareth, had an easy voice to listen to. He changed his accent and tone for the different characters, thus, bringing the story to life. I did like the sound effects as well. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
