In darkness, the only way for love to shine is through…hope.
Sweet, kind and strong-headed Ema Mendes moved to London with a goal in mind: to get her degree to become a successful interior designer. That’s what she worked her whole life for.
Until those mysterious caramel-eyes caught her attention. She knows he’s an infuriating distraction, one she swore off.
He’s her roommate’s brother. Her partner in class. The only one who can bring out emotions she’s never felt.
He continuously shakes her hope in humanity until…he becomes her first love.
***
Ruthless, cold and successful Nathaniel Blackburn has all the university’s girls at his feet, but after what happened last year he has only one rule: he won’t sleep with the same girl more than once.
What he wasn’t expecting was the lost girl he met on campus to be his sister’s roommate. The one who should be off limits.
She drives him insane in every way, but is also the reason he’s able to sleep well at night.
Her hope in the world is something he mocks until…she teaches him the meaning of love.
She saw the darkness. He saw the light. They found each other.
Hope is a New Adult Contemporary Romance with grumpy/sunshine, roommate's brother, forced proximity, inexperienced/experienced and college tropes.
A solid debut novel by a voice I’m sure we will be hearing lots more from. This isn’t one I would normally pick up but I’m glad I did. The author writes beautifully, and I feel like with a bit more editing and experience, she will really come into her own. This is a lovely story!
"You can do anything you put your mind to, so never quit what means the most to you, and never lose hope. I believe in you." - Eva Chau This book literally pulled me out of my reading slump. Its a very simple and sweet story. Hope is a story of Ema and Nate. Ema who has come to England to pursue her dream of studying Interior designing and Nate is also a architect student in the same college. She meets Nate in the campus on the very first day, when he helps her with the directions. Here you get introduced to Alison who is Ema's roommate and also Nate's sister. Ema comes to know more about Nate from his sister, especially his past experiences which shows that he's a kind of person who is not that serious when it comes to relationships. Both of them have similar interest but the only thing that comes in between them is Hope. This is where you get the reference of the title of book. Ema is a kind of person who gathers hope from anything and everything that she does whereas Nate is completely opposite of her. He is the kind of person who doesn't really give much importance to Hope. Even through all the differences how both of them come together is something very special, To know how they fall in love inspite of the difference you should totally read this book. The book is written so well and the language is lucid. The plot is well structured and the twists in between are so unexpected and it literally just blew my mind. Character development is amazing, as you go on reading it makes you so familiar with the characters. I really liked Alison's and Ema's character. Also Nate's behaviour changes after meeting Ema was the highlight of the story. Cover and title of the book is so appropriate. I personally loved the cover of the book 😍 Definitely read this book if you are looking for something new and refreshing to read. 💯
“You know what your only flaw is? You are flawless and I just can’t wait for love to destroy us.”
This was an absolute delight to read! First of all, the playlist? CHEF’S KISS! It has 3 of my favorite songs from “The Neighborhood” and the fact that the characters were quoting them from time to time? Made my whole experience so much more exciting and addictive!
“Hope” is a hot, fun and swoon worthy romance, that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time! It has an amazing cast of characters, a fun and quick paced plot and is written in a very beautiful and lyrical way. It has dual POVs which I don’t usually prefer, but in this book, I didn’t really mind it; in fact I loved seeing both characters’ opinions about the whole situation and the author pulled it through sooo well! It felt like I was reading a book written from two different authors because she managed to create two different characters and got into their brains, expressed the way they both feel and think and let’s not forget, they were total polar opposites.
I just loved the whole reading experience! It reminded me of After which I used to be obsessed with back in the day! I would highly recommend this to romance fans! Go give this book a shot, it’s AMAZING!
P.s. It’s the main character’s birthday today so Happy Birthday to Ema!!
Note: Thank you to the author for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review!
❝ I love the way she talks with so much passion for the things she cares about. It’s rare to find someone like that. ❞🤍
“Hope” is a perfect read, if you're looking for a fun, beautiful Romance I got you ! While reading this book my heart filled with Hope. I finished reading it yesterday and I already miss all the characters, they were fun & unique. The story follows two university students Ema and Nate, each of the characters are dealing with their personal problems and lives, It's a story I fell in love with.
Hope is a book about a Portuguese girl, Ema who comes to a new university to complete her interior designing degree. Ema is a girl who is full of hope and knows things will eventually work out for good. On the other hand, there she meets this guy , Nathaniel Blackburn, who is soon to be an architect and have zero hope for anything, anybody or life. ❤️
Their paths cross and they are forced to deal with situations which changes their life in so many ways. With new challenges, old secrets, and a lot of hope placed in their way from the moment their eyes meet, they have to fight for what they believe it’s best for them and those around. ❤️
Will hope hold them together or they'll end up choosing different paths?
For a debut novel, Eva has done such a great job with the storyline , the writing style everything. All the characters are well defined with a perfect back story to explain their relations and reactions to everything which I absolutely loved. There are so many characters in the story but the best part is that the attention never goes away from Ema and Nate. I absolutely loved how beautifully every scene is written which honestly make you feel all the emotions the characters are feeling. The book length is perfect with nothing extra or nothing less to it. But if you think it's a regular romance novel then you've honestly mistaken because the book offers such twists and turns which you won't even see coming. Another best part about the book is that it also have like few dialogues in Portuguese with english translations to it and I love learning new languages so it was like such a plus point to the book. ❤️
I really don't want to give you any spoilers so I'm keeping it a little short but you should definitely pick this book I promise you won't regret it. The book has a perfect blend of all emotions. And you'll know the reason behind that cover and that title once you read the book. ❤️
And to all the AFTER series fans out there or people who are planning on reading After but stops everytime looking at those big books you definitely should read this one. ❤️
Read this book last week so I gathered some reasons of why you should read this book:
1. Although the writer herself has here what inspired our questions and historical stories from Wattpad, a love story by Nate and Ema does not resemble any of them;
2. Do you like plot twists? Well,if so,this book is perfect for you. It didn't have one or two, it had several.
3. I will be honest, I do not identify or like to read stories where protagonist saves the badboy. However, in this case, Nate was not "saved", the only thing Ema did for him was to give him someone for the first time who made him feel loved enough so that he could change himself. And that, I loved it.
4. I have always been a regular member of Wattpad. For a long time it was the only way to keep alive or my pleasure in reading. Therefore, I have always longed for a story where there was Portuguese representation. Dialogues in Portuguese are numbers throughout the book, which I thought gave the story a unique detail. And even if you are not familiar with the language, free lessons are free lessons
5. And finally, the writing! Eva has super easy and fluid writing. In addition, there are numerous beautiful phrases that you can take and unlike some books I read, it doesn't look like an author threw up a philosophy book inside.
Basically, the only thing that bothered me was that it was a standalone..But don’t worry, because we still get epilogues that show us the future of these two.
In a nutshell, I would recommend these book to anyone who likes to read about romance, college and hoping for a better future to others and ourselves.
"I never said life was colourful, but you need to realise that life is only as great as you make it."
If you've ever read After, I definitely think you'll feel similar vibes from Hope, but done in a way that is its own story and own cast of characters, and a way that works so well! So, if you enjoyed that series, I think you'll enjoy this swoon-worthy book, especially fitting for a Valentine's Day read!
I felt like this book was well done in a fast paced way, and it read quite quickly for me. I liked that they had things in common, but at the core of their characters, also have different dispositions (Ema placing importance in hope and Nate not so much), so seeing them come together, to grow and eventually to see the development overall was really great! And we definitely got some plot twists along the way... it really was a journey of finding hope when you felt like there was none left.
I do feel like there could be a few improvements with the editing to help the flow, but overall, I really enjoyed this book and I do think it is a really good debut novel. Also, big shout out to the playlist, so many good songs included and I had to listen along with some of them as I read!
> Huge thank you to the amazing Telepathy Book Tours, and the author, for providing the opportunity to join the book tour and review this book!
This is an amazing story which between Ema a hopeful lady and Nathaniel who gives damn to hopeful things . Ema is pursing to be an interior designer and moves forward in life gathering a little bit of hope from whatever she does while Nathaniel being a guy who does not care of hopeful stuffs is going to be an architect . In a surprising way both their paths cross and everything not remained the same , they dealt with their differences and similarities and faced their life challenges . Hope was born right from the moment when they shared glance with each other , As the story proceeds they fight , they love, they unite , they separate but deep down both are connected by a thread 'Hope.' And atlast despite all the adversities the ending is very amazing , The link which was bonding Nate & Ema came to life and became part of their family If you like this genre , this will be up your alley I recommend you to read this book

Achei o final incrível e aqueceu-me o coração.
When I was reading this novella I was thinking that I was reading After. The begining is pretty similar but then you will find the differences. The author inspired by Anna Todd, so that's why.
Contrary to After, I enjoyed this book!
In this book we find Ema, a portuguese girl with hope, that won a scholarship to Englad to study Interior Design, so she meets Nate, who at first sight she found him as a fuqboi*** Then, she discovered that he is her roommate's brother.
Also, Nate is so much different we could guess, he has a great heart, but he just broken.
So, in the book we could see the growing of the characters
She saw the darkness. He saw the light. They found each other.
This book gave me all the After vibes and I totally loved it. It follows the story of two university students, Ema and Nate, their lives, their love, their relationship, the hardships they face, the secrets and most importantly hope.
The book is beautifully written, the plot is great and I love the development of the characters through the book. The author did a wonderful job. I highly suggest it. The perfect book for valentine’s day🕊
“Unfortunately, everything good ends and it leaves us with nothing but memories and dreams of what we could have been.”
#Insight- The story focuses on two people mainly, Ema and Nate. On how they navigate through college life, with their friends and family, carrying secrets and regrets, facing friends and foes, and most importantly, their own personal Demons, all guided by Hope. The story off some very strong messages and feelings. One of them is that a mistake, as long as you try, can be corrected. And another one of them is HOPE. It is the most important thing in our life and it is what drives us to do the things that we know will improve our life.
#Review- The story is very well written, full of twists and turns, it is sure to leave you surprised with its secrets. A very important and food thing about the story is that it is relatable, to college students. College life is depicted almost accurately, “Almost”. Each of the characters are dealing with their own personal problems and lives, and the author manages to do justice with the story of each,”important” character, so nothing is left unexplained. The start of the story, feels uninteresting, like some other college romance, but as the story progresses we find that it is more than that. The story shows us how several incidents shape lives and personalities. Overall the story is quite nice and also contains some good thoughts other than the fiction story.
#Strength- Its a mix of all. The story doesn’t feel like just a romance novel. Its the college life story of the characters.
#Weakness- Detailed depictions in some scenes may classify it as an adult novel.
#Target Audience- If you’re going through a rough patch in college life, or if you are afraid that you fucked up something important in your life and are afraid to correct it, this story might inspire you. Or if you’re just looking for good old college romance, this is for you.
The name of this book speaks for itself. As you read it, your heart will be filled with Hope. On the characters story, on their love and, above that, in yourself. Eva Chau did an amazing and inspiring work with this book.
After so long I have read such an incredible read, This book made me explore a very beautiful experience. This book is basically about a Portuguese girl, Hope is a story of Ema and Nate . Ema has moved to England to pursue her dream of studying Interior designing, and she is full of hope and she believes that eventually things will fall into place. On the other hand Nathaniel Blackburn Nate, who went to pursue his architect degree, and he is pessimistic in nature.Ema met Nate on the very first day of her college on the college campus and Nate helped her with the directions. Further you will get to know about another character called Alison who is the sister of Nate and surprisingly the roommate of Ema, from this source Ema got to know about Nate and his past .
What happens Next?
Will destiny make them stay together or will they end up choosing different paths at the end?
A really great job done by Eva. The character development was successful, and defining all the characters was very attractive. The explanations of each and every scenario was legitimately good that I could see them in front of my eyes. Making such connections isn't easy, and she has done that flawlessly. I literally fell in love with the implementations of Portuguese dialogues with English translation, which was absolutely beautiful and attractive. Kudos to the author for writing such an amazing book. A highly recommended book.
𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔 𝚛𝚎𝚟𝚒𝚎𝚠 Nathaniel Blackburn, who is soon to be an Architect and have zero hope with anybody, Everything changes when he see’s her. This girl reminds him so much of Hope, its really uncanny. Her name is Ema.
Ema who comes in Bromley's university to complete her Architecture and interior design.
There something about Ema, The more Nate gets to know ema, the more he starts to suspect she could be Hope. The more time they spend together, the more Nate starts to fall in love with ema, is now and the more he wishes that she wouldn't be Hope so that their present won't be affected by the events that happened in the past.
will 'Hope' hold up them together or they drew apart?
Getting this copy, and getting to read this was like Christmas come early for me.😬 It did not disappoint. Not at all.
My favorite part of the book was dialogue in Portuguese translation, it took a book that was good and made it exceptional.
I would appreciate the work of the author. The narration is smooth and the way characters are defined.
This book was a work of art!! I found myself passing the pages faster, because i want to discover all the secrets kept. I am so excited for everyone to read it! Just amazing! ❤
