Leo Warner isn’t my type. Not only is he my brother’s best friend, but he’s out of control. I’ve made a lot of bad decisions in my life, one of which was marrying my ex. My daughter and I have spent years just getting by, and the last thing I need is an athlete who’s constantly getting in trouble in my life. But when things heat up and my pride refuses to confide in my brother, Leo Warner is the one person who sees me at my lowest and offers to help. I can live with him in exchange for some meals. Maybe some dishes and dry-cleaning. But his fall from grace with the media is far from over, and when he’s forced to enter a PR relationship, the only person he trusts for the job is me.
Briar Crosby is an ice queen I shouldn’t want. Not only is she a single mom who’s been handed some bad luck, but she’s also my best friend’s sister. The last thing she needs is my particular brand of chaos. But when she turns up on my doorstep ready to give up, I couldn’t turn her away. But there’s something about Briar Crosby that makes me want to be a better man… We’re supposed to fake dating. Still, I should have known her charm would get to me. That I’d want her as more than friends. I hate being out of control, but I’ll give her everything if it makes her fall for me.
And it leaves me wondering… how do I prevent a Fumble?
How to Prevent a Fumble is a slow burn, fake dating, single mom X brother's best friend romance and the second in the Baltimore Cobras series of interconnected standalones.
Anna Noel is a firm believer in writing what you’re passionate about, and two things she’s loved her entire life are sports and spies.
Growing up a huge fan of Baltimore Sports, Spy movies, and Fast and Furious, Anna got her start writing early, graduating from writing small picture books about her childhood Dalmatian to books about street racing, crime, and spies.
Her favorite authors growing up were Dan Brown, Iain Reid, and Kazuo Ishiguro. Although she writes in a completely different genre, she finds inspiration in their creativity and genius.
Anna’s life goal has been to help authors and become one herself. With entrepreneurship running in her family, she knew that she would do it eventually. As time went on, in 2015 Anna started selling plot lines to authors who needed a little help, and years later would expand her services to authors, eventually going full-time with it in 2020.
Anna specializes in slow burn romances, and is excited to continue both her Project Fallen Angel series and the Baltimore Cobras.
Anna started the book with a warning, telling us that this book is a slow (but very slow) burn. And even though I am not the biggest fan of this trope, the single mom and the MMC made me want to read it badly.
And let me tell you… it was such a well written slow burn with tension and sparks that even if it would have lasted 50 more pages, it wouldn’t have bothered you. The fake relationship helped too, it made the two act like lovers when it was needed and in the meantime they fell deeply in love with each other.
Leo was a character that stepped on my nerves in the first book of the series, but at the same time I knew there were more behind his facade. And this book showed me that yes, Leo Warner can be a good man, sweet and caring and loving and he can make you love him. He gets better with each chapter and even if he makes mistakes in the meantime, you will forgive him… all is because of Briar.
Being a single mother is not easy, especially when the ex husband makes your life miserable. But through every bad day and every worse thing that happens to her, Briar stands up and does everything in her power to make sure that her daughter is safe and happy.
The journey in which the two embarked was a beautiful one and I enjoyed reading their story, I loved the tropes and how the book was written. I really recommend it to those who like sports romance, single mom and fake relationships ✨
Thank you to the author for giving me the chance to ARC read it 🫶🏻
A very slow burn brother’s best friend romance bolt. Briar, a single mom struggling since divorcing her ex, gets an opportunity to help her brother’s best friend as his personal assistant. Leo, a NFL Quarterback playboy provides her and her daughter a place to stay and help him clean up his image like agreeing to a fake relationship. You are pulled through the many struggles these two work through while leaning on each other. It’s a push and pull story that has you anxious for a happily ever after outcome. I fell for Leo and how much growth for himself and his need to take care of others. A great story. If you love a slow burn this is definitely a book for you.
The best way I can think of to describe the relationship progression is that it worked like steps instead of a gradual ramp.
I think the transition into different levels of “oh I care abt this person” was just a sudden shift instead of a gradual change. Even right from the start they were lowk overly obsessed with what the other person thought abt them for no reason when they’re practically strangers to each other. It made things feel rushed even when it’s supposed to be more of a slowburn. ESPECIALLY BY THE END with the proposal!!
Also Leo is kinda an ass and I’m not very convinced of his character growth. The way he totally disrespected her after his injury and the problem was resolved w sex didn’t rly sit right w me but 🤷♀️ Also the way he still threw money at problems until the end. Like legit the VERY END. Idk good for him ig? If I had money I’d do the same tbh but Briar very clearly didn’t Want him doing that
Relationship itself was just kinda eh. Like I genuinely didn’t rly feel that much chemistry but maybe I’m just a hater, who knows.
The novel begins with Anna warning us to the fact that it is a slow burn—but a very slow burn .And let me tell you, you wouldn't have cared if it had been 50 pages longer because it was such a masterfully crafted slow burn with tension and sparks. The fake dating trope was also helpful; it allowed the two to pretend to be lovers when necessary, and in the interim, they developed a strong romantic bond.
While Leo isn't a very beloved character in the first book, Anna also reminds us in the author note that we should give him another opportunity! The novel demonstrates that Leo Warner can become a kind, compassionate, and loving man who can win your heart. With every chapter, he improves, and you will overlook his blunders because Briar is the reason behind it all.
Briar and Leo's chemistry was masterfully done. Their connection was more credible because it developed gradually into something meaningful. It seemed genuine because it took the entire book to heal. Some stories I've read have characters who recover from trauma far too readily or soon, and it makes me want to stop reading. I enjoyed how the story seemed more realistic after the healing.
If you enjoy: -Single mom - Elara, Briar's daughter is such an amazing kid, I loved seeing her interact with Leo! -Fake dating -Reformed bad boy -Slow burn -Brother’s best friend
Can’t wait for more Baltimore Cobras and if it’s the two characters I think it will be, I’m so excited! This novel has a fantastic balance of humor, character development, and genuine romance. For those who adore watching a reformed playboy struggle to win the affection of a strong, worthy single mother, this is the ideal slow-burn romance. Extremely advisable!
This book was an absolute delight, a masterclass in slow burn romance that kept me engaged from start to finish. The story centers around Briar, a strong, independent single mom, and Leo, a reformed playboy who happens to be her brother's best friend. The progression of their relationship was perfectly paced, with just the right amount of tension and anticipation.
One of the highlights was Leo’s bonding with Briar’s daughter, which was simply adorable. The Lego Star Wars scene had me laughing out loud, showcasing the perfect blend of humor and heartwarming moments that this book offers.
I absolutely loved Leo's character development. Watching him prove his worth to Briar and her daughter, Elara was heartwarming. Their interactions showcased Leo's genuine care and effort, making his transformation from a playboy to a dedicated partner.
Briar's character is another strong point. She knows her worth and doesn't settle for anything less, which is refreshing and empowering. Her strength and self-respect set a great example and added depth to the story. It's always satisfying to see a character who stands firm in their principles and eventually finds a partner who respects and cherishes them for it.
The sports romance and fake dating elements were seamlessly integrated into the plot, providing additional layers of excitement and engagement. The chemistry between Briar and Leo was palpable, and their fake dating scenario provided many moments of genuine connection and growing affection.
In summary, this book is a wonderful blend of heartfelt romance, humor, and character growth. It's perfect for fans of slow burn romances, especially those who enjoy seeing a reformed playboy work hard to win the love of a strong, deserving single mom. Highly recommended!
What to Expect: - Sports Romane - NFL QB x Assistant - Single Mom - Brother's Best Friend - Fake Dating - Reformed Playboy - Slow Burn
How to Prevent a Fumble is my first read by Anna Noel, and this won't be my last. I really enjoyed Leo and Briar's story.
After things ended with her toxic ex-husband, Briar is struggling to take care of herself and her daughter Elara. She doesn't want to let her younger brother, Owen, know she needs help. Enter Leo. When he finds out about Briar's situation, he offers her a job as his personal assistant and space to live in his apartment. Leo is the star quarterback for the Baltimore Cobras and is dealing with an image issue. He hasn't made the best choices, and his PR team has advised him that some changes need to be made. He is asked to enter into a fake relationship to boost his public image and agrees to do it, but only if Briar is involved.
I have not read Love on the Waiver Wire, so this was my introduction to Leo. I adored him and couldn't help but root for him. I loved his relationship with Briar. Anna warned that this was a slow burn, and she leaned all the way into that. I can honestly say the choice makes sense and makes the special moments much more meaningful for Leo and Briar. I enjoyed witnessing the evolution of their relationship. I loved how they helped each other heal and work through their insecurities and traumas.
The character growth was amazing. Leo wanted to be a better man and worthy of Briar's love. He did the work, and I loved the inclusion of therapy in this story. Briar is an amazing mother and only wants to do what is best for Elara. She has been through and continues to go through a lot with her ex. She is very strong and cautious about her next steps. Elara was super cute and definitely stole the show at times. I loved the friendships and was so happy that Leo and Briar had people to lean on.
How to Prevent a Fumble is well-written and has believable characters. It is a wonderful story with the right amount of humor, tension, and heartfelt moments. I am excited to read the next book in this series.
This book totally stole my heart!! It was unlike any other sports romances I've read this year. It really stood out with the single mom trope navigating love and life.
I initially despised Leo's character, but the development he undergoes is so rewarding. His journey from a seemingly unlikable character to someone I genuinely rooted for was well-executed. Briar and Leo's relationship was BEAUTIFUL. It showed a deep and genuine connection that felt real and endearing. Leo's interactions with Elara were especially SO ADORABLE Ugh.
Overall, I loved the entire book. The writing was excellent, and kept me engaged from start to finish. Thank you so much, Anna Noel, for the gifted ARC copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Leo, his character development in this book is amazing, it’s clear, powerful and comes with the whole I want to be a better person for you. It just took the right motivation for him to want to change and to see himself and his own issues. Briar, she finds a strength in her self and learning to lean on others and that is also something special, maybe she couldn’t and still can’t quite be all that open with her younger brother but she deserved to have someone to be there for here and Elara. She held so strong and I was on the edge of my seat in anticipation of the moment her resolve and control would break, when that slow smolder between the two of them finally burst in to flames. And boy was it worth it! Also her mini me, Elara, was a dose of sass that was sprinkled perfectly throughout the book. There is a point when you know she is fully approving of Leo and she is just an amazing mini human! I can’t wait for her to feature more in future books 👀 The friendships gained/recognized/built, as well, are something to aspire to find. Let’s not forget Zara, I would love a friend like that!
All in all this is such a great book, such a sweet romance, once they make it down the winding bumpy road to find each other. It is a slooow burn. But it makes the burn so much sweeter. Leo might have been an ass when it came to Owen and Isla in LOTWW but he’s just an absolute sweetheart deep down inside who is craving control of his life. The way he just wants to love and support her and has to learn to do that in a way that works for both of them, but the way he wants to so much!
📖: How to prevent a fumble By Anna Noel ✨Release date: 5th July
How to prevent a fumble is the second book in the Baltimore Cobras series…
Brair is struggling and needs help who better to help then NFL playboy Leo Warner?!
This book. This book. I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book. It is definitely one of my favourite reads of this year. Briar and Leo have my heart they are so sweet and are just meant for each other. Both are so strong but can be misunderstood but deep down just want the best for everyone. Both characters and their story are amazing. And Leo 🥵🙌🏼 he’s WOO! Let me tell you. And Elara 🥹 she is just the sweetest, wittiest kid 😅 and again is an amazing character. I love their story so much and the slow burn made it even better! 😮💨 and the meaning of the story way amazing. Can I just say the NFL player x Single mum I ate that up let me tell you. Also don’t even get me started on Tony ✋🏼 all I can say is read this book guys! 💜
Tropes:
🏈 NFL player x Single mum 💜 Reverse crawl to me scene 😉 🏈 lil bit of fake dating 💜 Forced proximity 🏈 Play boy turned lover boy 💜 Romcom vibes
Overall I rate this book a 4.5 ⭐️ it was sooo good it’s also got that spice🌶️ and their story again was just so so sweet and so beautiful 🥹
I also want to say a massive Thankyou to Anna Noel again I am so grateful and to have received an ARC Thankyou so much I am so thankful 🫶🏼
As soon as I open a book by Anna I automatically know I’m gonna love it. BUT. I didn’t know the extent to which I was gonna love this one. ‘Love On The Waiver Wire’ is one of my all time favourites but this is even higher like how? But it’s just that good you guys.
As everyone, I was VERY skeptical of Leo (for good reason) but he just blew me away. When he shows how much he cares and loves others he just makes you wanna die you fall in love with him that much.
Briar was everyone’s favourite black cat girly. She was NOT having Leo’s bs and good on her cause she managed to whip his ass into shape.
I just love these two soooo much. This series is my Roman Empire & Anna is a Roman Empire author. I’ve had the pleasure of supporting her since May 2023 and I’m so glad to know her.
When am I getting my Emmett/Heidi single dad x nanny?🤭🤣
Some Tropes: 🏈 Reformed Playboy 🔥 Single Mom 🏈 Brother’s Best Friend 🔥 Fake Dating
🚨 SPOILERS AHEAD 🚨
Pros:
I don’t typically mind slow burns, but sometimes they lose me and I struggle to get through the first half of the book. This book though? No issue!
The storyline, the fake dating, the drama, it captured my attention and kept me there.
Leo and Briar’s story was incredible. Leo’s character growth was beautifully written. When I found out this book was about Leo, I was rolling my eyes because I couldn’t stand him in book 1, but I guess that’s why we give second chances, right?
Briar’s daughter was precious. I loved her relationship with her daughter. I applauded her relationship with Leo as well. She is such a strong, intelligent woman!
Cons:
My con isn’t even about the book. It’s just about the ex-husband. Screw him. I’m so glad he’s fictional or I might have had to egg his house.
My Opinion:
Yet another incredible book by Anna Noel. This series is building so well and are such easy reads. I can’t wait to see what’s next!
If you enjoy: -Single mom -Fake dating -Reformed bad boy -Slowwwwwwwww burn -Brother’s best friend
You need to read this book. LIKE NOW. I read it in one sitting, I started at 8pm and couldn’t stop until they finally got together and since it’s a super slow burn… I was up until 3 am 🤦🏽♀️💀. However, I have no regrets. I know the cover is gorgeous, so please judge a book by its cover it a get it. You will not regret it!
Thank to this wonderful author for the ARC. I’m going to go read the first book of the series.
I will be waiting for the next book because it seems like we might have a Single dad/ Nanny situation happening and I cannot wait🤞🏽
Cute but also didn’t wow me. I still really loved it and I appreciated the amount of time given for the MMC to go through some character development compared to other books like this. The end felt slightly rushed but it was ok. Still light and fun and easy to keep me from hitting a major reading slump
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is a slowwwww burn but it's definitely worth it for the tension and banter between Leo and Briar.
I love a sports romance with a brothers best friend trope and this delivers that brilliantly.
Leo and Elara's relationship was also so cute.
I loved how both the MMC and FMC grew throughout the book while dealing with their past in a realistic way, how Leo turned from a Playboy to a caring guy who would do anything for Briar and Elara and how Ice queen Briar's persona started to melt the more she was around Leo.
I definitely recommend if you're looking for Single Mom, brothers best friend, Sports romance with slow burn to spice.
Oh Leo, Leo, Leo! Front CH1 I was rooting for you! Leo begins his story as a runner, burying his head in the sand hoping that his publicist will be able to pick up the pieces of the mishaps that keep occurring in his life.
You get glimpses early on of who Leo is under the bravado he portrays to the world, with each chapter Leo’s character development pours out and you begin to understand just how deeply Leo cares for the people in his life!
Briar has my whole heart 🥹 She is fiercely independent and desperately trying to stand on her own but additionally struggles to see when someone genuinely wants to simply help her without any expectations in return and of course, Leo finds himself in the cross-wires.
I adored the fact that Leo takes the time to heal himself and to become the best version of himself for not only himself but for Briar and Elara.
How To Prevent A Fumble was a true slow burn but in the best possible way! I can’t wait to see where Anna Noel takes us next with the Baltimore Cobras!
UGH LEO WARNER. IM OBSESSED. His character development was 10/10 so perfect. I absolutely love how he was written and how we got to witness his WANT to change for Briar. I’m absolutely obsessed with them. When Anna told me this was a slow burn BOY DID SHE MEAN IT. But I’m kind of glad it was since briar had so much going on and Leo needed to work on himself. I ADORE them 😭😭😭😭 so very grateful to experience these are ARCs 😭🥹
DNF'D I really tried to read this and I was so interested in the book and knew I wasn't going to like it. I also didn't like the writing or the characters that much either.
Happy happy release day, Anna!!! How to Prevent a Fumble is out NOW!!!!
4.5-4.75 ⭐
Tropes: 🏈reformed playboy 🏈single mom 🏈PR relationship 🏈the slowest burn ever (but i promise it's so worth it) 🏈black cat fmc 🏈forced proximity 🏈brother's best friend (and her brother is also dating his sister lol) 🏈the sassiest daughter ever 🏈"crawl to me"
Leo Warner hasn't necessarily made...the best decisions in his life since joining the NFL, but what problem can't money solve...right? Briar Crosby regrets ever marrying her ex, but at least it got her her daughter, Elara. When Briar begrudgingly agrees to be Leo's personal assistant and start fake dating him to help improve his image, can the two of them actually keep it professional?
THIS. BOOK. Wow wow wow. I have no words. I know Anna had a lot of nerves releasing this book with the slowwww burn and the strong dislike that a lot of people had about Leo in Love on the Waiver Wire, but this book absolutely BLEW me out of the water!! I loved seeing the redemption arc that Leo went on throughout the story and the healing that both him and Briar needed to go through individually, and together, for their relationship to improve. Both of these characters really deserve the entire world and had so much pressure put on them as older siblings when they were younger that they really felt like they had to take on the burdens of their families. But, (fake) being with each other and living together really helped to light a fire under both of them to demonstrate how some of the burdens that they faced were not burdens that they needed to bare.
I absolutely ADORED Elara throughout this story too!! The sassy six year old daughter of Briar was a complete and utter delight and had Leo wrapped around her little finger from the beginning. But omg, when you realize where the namesake for the title comes from?? 😭😭😭
If you want a book with an amazing redemption arc and true found family, I would highly recommend!! And if you are on a Mariana Zapata hangover, definitely pick this up for a good slow burn
Thanks to @annanoelbooks for the #gifted copy of this book. All opinions on this book are my own.
"I've wanted to be a better man since the day you moved in, Briar. There's just something about you."
Summary: Briar Crosby, sister to Owen Crosby of the Baltimore Cobras, is just trying to survive life with her daughter even with her horrible ex ruining things for her at every opportunity. Enter Leo Warner, the quarterback of the Baltimore Cobras and best friends with Owen. Leo has been getting some seriously bad PR lately after their big Super Bowl win, and he really needs some help. Briar is the perfect person to help him get his personal life back on track so he's ready to play on the field.
Thoughts: THIS BOOK!! Wow... I was not a fan of Leo after Isla and Owen's book (Love on the Waiver Wire) and he seriously needed a fantastically written redemption arc. Enter this book. Leo is now one of my favorite book boyfriends because of his tremendous growth as well as the way he loved Briar and her daughter Elara. Leo went from one of the biggest playboys in the league to wanting to be a better man for Briar, even when she was just his assistant. Combine that with a fake dating trope with his best friend's sister and well that is just about the best basis for a book I can imagine. He helped Briar to see that she could love and be loved again by a man who was truly worth her time. There was a definite slow burn in this book, but it was so so worthwhile, and frankly, I was so absorbed with their story that I didn't even care. Finally, I absolutely loved Elara, Briar's 6-year-old daughter. I enjoyed the fact that Leo was sometimes more scared of her than her mom!
This is perfect for those who love when characters have to hurt to be a better human. It's also great if you love fake dating, sports romance, with absolute slow burns.
Read if you love: 💗Brother's Best Friend 💖Single Mom 🏈NFL QB X Assistant 🫠Fake Dating 😉Forced Proximity 🔥Slllllloooowww Burns 🤩No Third Act Break
Leo omg. To say I’m obsessed would be an understatement. A man who has been taking care of his family since he was a teenager. A man who is protective and possessive (and slightly controlling but he’s working on it). A man who is willing to better himself for the love of his life. Not a stepfather but a man who STEPPED UP!!!!! Ugh I’m in love. Every scene where he wears a backwards hat I was salivating let’s be honest. His POVs were so fun the thoughts in this man’s head were always hilarious.
BRIAR. My Angel baby. She’s fiesty and she’s a mamma bear but also she’s just a girl who wants to be loved and needs someone to take care of her omfg. I GET IT GIRL. She puts Leo in his place many many times and she does it without being unnecessarily mean. I love her character and how she always put her daughter’s needs before her own. She’s iconic.
Elara u sweet child. She was fun and sassy and sweet and I LOVED that there wasn’t unnecessary scenes with her and Leo!! They grew together in their own terms no forced father daughter vibes!
This was too good. The slow burn was sooo satisfying and the yearning and the angst was perfect. No insta love here only two people wanting to help each other. One of the best fake dating for a famous person bc they actually had contracts and PR people (lmfaooo). Love love love.
This book was 5/5. A single-mom, fake dating, brother’s best friend, slow burn fantastic romance.
Now, if you don’t love slow-burn this is not the book for you. But me? I love a good slow burn. The character development in any slow burn is vital and this was top tier!
Briar is a single mom with an asshole ex who refuses to let anyone know she is struggling. In comes Leo, the brother’s best friend, national sweetheart QB whose life is a HOT MESS in the media, who gives Briar an offer she can’t refuse. 😍
The character growth for both of these characters was phenomenal! Enemies to friends to lovers who push each other to be so much better. I loved reading their story. Briar does not want to accept help especially in the monetary sort and Leo loves to throw money at any problem he stumbles upon. So there’s some hard feelings between the two (which they sort of, obvs), but their banter and love story was 🔥.
I love a book where you see the feelings develop, where a character works hard to be a better person for themselves and the ones they love. Slow burn will always be at the top of my list and this one was fan-freaking-tastic!
Oh my god I loved this book so much. This is the first Anna Noel book I've read but I will definitely be reading more. I look forward to going back and reading book 1 in this series. As I haven't read the first book yet this was my first time meeting Leo so I missed him being an asshole. I definitely fell in love with him in this book though. Anna warns that this is an extremely slow burn and it was delicious. The tension and anticipation are next level. The fake dating was also perfect. Briar telling herself its fake and Leo knowing it isn't *chefs kiss*
I'm not sure who I loved more, Leo or Briar. They are both fantastic characters and they work so well together. They have so much chemistry and their banter is entertaining. Briar is sassy and badass and deserves the world. I love that she calls Leo out on his shit and he works on himself. We get to see both of them grow and learn to trust each other and their feelings. The fact that it happens over a longer time span makes it more believable.
Elara is the star of the show though. She's adorable and hilarious and seeing Leo love her melted my heart. There are so many amazing side characters and the friendships were beautiful. I need Emmett and Heidis story please and thank you.
First I would like to say a big thank you to Anna Noel for letting me be apart of this ARC Team!
Rate: 5/5⭐️ Spice: 2/5🌶️
What to expect when reading How to Prevent a Fumble; -Single Mom -QB x Assistant -Playboy turned Loverboy -Fake dating -Slow burn -Brothers best friend
Where do I even begin with this book😩
Briar is struggling and hiding it well until she can’t plus the last person she wants help from is Leo. Her boss girl attitude with Leo and what she had him due in Chapter 38 OMG🙌😮💨🔥
Leo is spiraling and he is leaving a trail of bad media behind him, which involves cleaning up his imaging with help from Briar.
Character growth is one of my favorite things about books and their growth is amazing! Yes there was some tug of war between them and their growth throughout the story but that’s what made it even better once The storyline, banter and the slow burn that explodes was sooooo good!
Honorable mention is going to be Briar’s daughter I LOVED HER 😂
Fav Line: Everything Leo says in Chapter 47🥹
Make sure you get the book when it releases on July 5th💜 #bookstagram #romance #review
Briar is trying her hardest to raise her six year old daughter but her ex-husband is not making it easy. Her brother’s best friend and teammate finds out and offers her a job and two rooms in his apartment. He has always ignored his attraction to Briar out of respect for his friend but with her so close every day it hard. For PR reason, he needs a fake relationship but he will only agree if it’s with Briar.
Can he show he has changed and can she get over her past?
My thoughts:
How to Prevent a Fumble by @annanoelbooks had me hooked from the beginning. My favorite character was probably Elara. She was fierce for a six year old. I honestly believe she healed Briar and Leo.
The chemistry between Briar and Leo was done really well. The slow build to something serious made their relationship more believable. The way it took the whole book to heal made it real. I’ve read some books that has the characters healing from trauma to easily or quickly and it pulls me out of the story. I like how the healing made the story appear more real.
I can’t wait for Emmett’s story.
Thank you @annanoelbooks for the ARC of How to Prevent a Fumble
How to Prevent a fumble is the second book in the Baltimore Cobras series. This book was a masterclass in slow burn when Anna said slow burn she meant it but OMG it was worth everything. We meet Leo Warner in the first book and he wasn’t the greatest man in it. In this book we get to know Leo better and understand why he did what he did in the first one to Isla and Owen. (Not that Leo had the right.) Briar is Owen’s older sister who is down on her luck and tries to be the best mother to Elara.(she is the best mom.) The character development of both the characters is amazing and especially with Leo and watching Briar find the strength in her self and also learning to lean on others and having Leo be that person 💜. I loved the friendships that were gained, recognized and built is something we all aspire to find. Watching as Briar called out Leo on his Bs and didn’t take his excuses was great to watch. Also seeing Leo change before our eyes because he wanted and needed to be a better person for Briar and also Elara💜 This book so was just so sweet and so beautiful you defiantly won’t regret reading this book.
"How to Prevent a Fumble" might be the second book in the Baltimore Cobras series, but it stands strong on its own. However, make no mistake – I'll be running to book 1 just to stay in this world a little longer! This slow burn is packed with some of my favourite tropes: QB x Assistant, Single Mum x Brother's Best Friend, Fake Dating (who doesn't love that!), Playboy Turned Lover Boy, Grumpy x Sunshine, and of course, a plant named Ken and an adorable rescue pupper named Champ! The slow burn is beautifully well-written, filled with angst and leading to the happiest ending. I am a total sucker for the 'wear my jersey' trope, and this book delivers it perfectly. The depth of the characters made me fall in love with every page, and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing who features in the next book. My dreams are set on Heidi and Emmett (and little Junie!). 5 stars and 1x front row ticket to the next Cobras game, please and thank you! TROPES: Single mum Fake dating QB X Assistant Brothers best friend Playboy turned Loverboy Grumpy x sunshine Sloooooow burn

I absolutely adore this book. First off , the title of the book being the title of the plan the boys come up with for Leo to get briar for real ? Absolutely killed me in the best way. I love Leo. He instantly wanted to help her when he saw that she needed it but didn’t want to outright admit it. I love how he adores and loves Elara and becomes a male presence she needed in her life. He become her friend , her protector and her dad. I love how he wanted Briar even thought their relationship started as her being his assistant and then her being his fake girl friend but he wanted it all to be real. I love Briar’s strength. She’s been through the wringer but always made sure to give everything her all. Her love for Elara is so sweet. Her acceptance of all these people that she gains through Leo. Her acceptance of Leo himself. She acknowledged his changes , she never let him push her around. She may be tough and very protective of her heart but validly so. But I’m so happy she lets her walls down and lets Leo in fully. Their love is so sweet. He genuinely loves those girls. Please read.
