When a magical phoenix whisks Sarah away to a mystical medieval land entangled in a heavy mech war, the worst thing she thought she'd have to worry about was their broody, arrogant King. Certainly not that prophecy about her saving their world. And the one where she's fated to die? Well...
An aspiring writer, Sarah Peters was never the life of the party on Earth, but when she gets magically sent to the country of Centeria, in the mysterious other-worldly land of Anthuria, suddenly she's their prophesied savior. And now the bad guys with the big, scary robots want her dead. Unless, of course, the King of Centeria, tall, brooding, and as mysterious as the land, has anything to say about the matter.

“The Fall” is the first installment in Phoenix Series by S .R. Breaker, which blends science fiction, fantasy, and romance into an interesting fast-paced, action-filled story, that is inspired by the Japanese anime genre.
The books are aimed to a YA readership, but can be also be enjoyed at any age, provided any affinity for the genre. The story follows Sara Peters, a quiet teenager, living in Earth, who has not much of a social interaction (let alone life) until, she finds herself in Centeria, a county in an off-word called Anthuria. Just as she magically appears there, on the wings of a phoenix, she too magically becomes the saviour of the world and finds herself right in the middle of war. Now her ‘enemies’ want her death and they have humongous intimidating robots (Japanese anime, remembers?) to get the deed done. Fortunately, the King is on her side, the very dark, tall, brooding, gorgeous king 😉
S.R. Breaker story is unique and originals, at least to Western readers. And, while the majority of the imagery and tropes are common ground on Japanese anime, Breaker understand how to merge the best of both worlds and success in telling an enjoyable story, with – once disbelief is finally lifted – credible and relatable characters.
What an absolutely intriguing start to what is sure to be an amazing series! The characters are so fun, and the story is so hard to put down! I love how different the setting is than most books I've read. This first book was pretty short, and I absolutely flew through it. There is a cliffhanger at the end, but thankfully I am reading the omnibus so book two was read to be read immediately (I may already be halfway through that one too, haha).
